The Texas Department of Public Safety might as well be called the Texas Department of Public Invasiveness.
They’ve launched a plan to fingerprint every single person of driving age in the state, after which they will add the person’s prints to the criminal database.
Is it just me or is that a rather Dystopian plan?
Jon Cassidy of Watchdog.org writes:
The credit for breaking the news on those two items goes to consumer affairs columnist Dave Lieber of the Dallas Morning News, whose long-running “Watchdog” column often shows up in my Google Alerts, for obvious reasons.
As an old-school columnist, Lieber tends to keep his opinions subdued, and he doesn’t generally call people dishonest. But I have no problem with doing that, so I’d like to point out that the DPS spokesman he quotes at length is less than straightforward about his department’s legal authority.
Last month, Lieber broke the news that DPS had started collecting full sets of fingerprints on everyone who went in to renew their license.
Friday, he followed up with a story on DPS’ dubious legal authority to do so, and then posted lengthy quotations on the issue to his blog.
Lieber quotes an entire email from DPS spokesman Tom Vinger, who quotes Transportation Code Sec. 521.059 at length, including the key phrase, “The department shall establish an image verification system based on the following identifiers collected by the department: ….an applicant’s thumbprints or fingerprints.” (source)

American Red Cross: A Corporate Fleecing Operation Exploiting Natural Disasters
Report reveals organization more interested in PR than alleviating suffering
The American Red Cross is a corporate shell devouring millions of dollars in donations.
It not only fails to provide assistance to disaster victims but gets in the way of efforts by smaller, more efficient emergency relief efforts.
A joint investigation conducted by ProPublica and NPR discovered the Red Cross is not interested in its declared mission of “preventing and relieving suffering.” Instead, the organization diverts “assets for public relations purposes” and its distribution of relief supplies, according to one internal report, is “politically driven.”
This public relations agenda, designed to suck up donations from sympathetic Americans, resulted in a fake relief effort during Hurricane Isaac that was “worse than the storm,” according to Jim Dunham, a truck driver. Dunham said Red Cross trucks were dispatched “just to be seen” and were “sent way down on the Gulf with nothing to give.”

Three Spooky Ways You’re Being Spied on This Halloween
We think this technology is scarier than any costume you’ll see on the streets this week
It’s that time of year when people don sinister masks, spray themselves with fake blood, and generally go all out for a good fright. But here at EFF, we think there are plenty of real-world ghouls to last all year-round. Fortunately, we won’t let them hide under your bed. Sometimes our work sounds like science fiction, but the surveillance techniques and technology we fight are all too real. Here are some of the beasts hiding in your backyard that we’ve been fighting to expose:
Automated License Plate Readers
Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) are cameras that can either be mounted on squad cars or stationary. They read license plates and record the time, date, and location a particular car was encountered. And they’re paving the way for wholesale tracking of every driver’s movements. ALPRs can scan up to 1,800 license plates per minute, and can collect data on vast numbers of vehicles. In Los Angeles, for example, the Los Angeles Police Department and Sheriff’s Department collect data on 3 million cars per week.
Much like metadata about phone calls, the information obtained from ALPRs reveals sensitive personal information. In fact, the International Association of Chiefs of Police issued a report in 2009 recognizing that “recording driving habits” could raise First Amendment concerns, because cameras could record “vehicles parked at addiction-counseling meetings, doctors’ offices, health clinics, or even staging areas for political protests.”

Teacher who called students the 'N-word' and 'slaves' when they objected to term African-American is fired after outrage
A substitute teacher at a Chicago school addressed a group of 13-year-olds using the N-word and referring to them as 'slaves'.
Mea Thompson and three of her friends say the teacher at first referred to them as 'African-American', which the girls objected to as they are not of African heritage.
The female teacher then used the N-word, which the group claim she then repeated throughout the class, referring to them as 'slaves'.

ALL (109) of the countries above the listing for the USA have 100% gun bans. It might be of interest to note that SWITZERLAND is not shown on this list because it has NO MURDER OCCURRENCE!
However, SWITZERLAND'S law requires that EVERYONE:
1. Own a gun.
2. Maintain Marksman qualifications .... Regularly .
Didja learn anything from this??
I think the message is - loud and clear - that gun bans and restrictions
DO NOT work!
MSNBC host Donny Deutch found guilty of scamming realtor out of $1 million over the sale of his $30 million Hamptons home
MSNBC host Donny Deutsch has been found guilty of scamming a realtor out of over $1 million in commission on the sale of his former $30 million home in the Hamptons.
Real estate broker Edward Petrie had claimed he was done out of his 4 percent commission after Deutsch went behind his back and brokered the 2010 sale privately to avoid paying the fee.
Petrie had found a potential buyer in hedge fund boss Howard Marks, but once Deutsch realized he knew Marks, the realtor claimed that the TV host went behind his back.
Justice Charles Ramos awarded Petrie’s employer, Sotheby’s, $1.2 million in compensation in court last week, reports The New York Post.
‘This court considers that and refusal to acknowledge [Petrie] as the broker to be marks of dishonesty and greed,’ wrote Ramos.
‘Both characteristics are particularly unbecoming when exhibited by those blessed with great wealth.’

A Virus Found In Lakes May Be Literally Changing The Way People Think
While conducting a separate experiment, a group of scientists from Johns Hopkins and the University of Nebraska accidentally discovered something unexpected and potentially disturbing.
A virus was living in the mouths and throats of a good portion of the people in the study, a virus that the researchers didn't think was capable of infecting humans. Worse still, it seemed to be slowing some of the subjects' mental abilities, especially their ability to process visual information.
The surprising part about this for researchers was that a microscopic organism that we thought could infect only algae — plants — was living in about 40% of the small number of people tested.
For the rest of us, the bigger surprise may be that this virus could join the ranks of microorganisms that live inside and on us, changing the way we think.
In a way, this is less crazy than it seems. Microscopic organisms live all over people and have all kinds of effects on our health, brain, and behavior.

WHAT ARE YOU?
Are you a Democrat, a Republican, or a Southerner?
Here is a little test that will help you decide.
The answer can be found by posing the following question:
You're walking down a deserted street with your wife
and two small children.
Suddenly, a Terrorist with a huge knife
comes around the corner,
locks eyes with you,
screams obscenities,
raises the knife, and charges at you...
You are carrying a

You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family.
What do you do?

Democrat's Answer:
· Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!
· What is a Kimber 1911 cal. 45 ACP?
· Does the man look poor or oppressed?
· Is he really a terrorist? Am I guilty of profiling?
· Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
· Could we run away?
· What does my wife think?
· What about the kids?
· Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?
· What does the law say about this situation?
· Does the pistol have appropriate safety built into it?
· Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?
· Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me?
· Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?
· If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?
· Should I call 9-1-1?
· Why is this street so deserted?
· We need to raise taxes, have paint & weed day.
· Can we make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.
· I need to debate this with some friends for a few days and try to come to a consensus.
· This is all so confusing!

HALLOWEEN SAFETY
(Salisbury, MD) This year Halloween falls on a Friday, which is exciting but can be dangerous as more people will be out and about on the roads. To enjoy a safe and fun Halloween experience, the WicomicoCounty Health Department offers these tips:
- Plan costumes that are bright and reflective which can easily be seen at night. Carry flash lights or glow sticks to increase visibility.
- Use safety tested face make-up instead of masks so children can see better. Ensure that costumes fit snugly to reduce the risk of tripping.
- Never go Trick or Treating alone; always go in a group in known and safe areas. Never enter houses for treats.
- Stay on sidewalks and only cross streets at crosswalks after looking both ways. Children should never cross the street unless accompanied by a trusted adult.
- Children should not approach houses alone. Only approach houses that look inviting with a front light on indicating someone is home.
- Children should not eat candy until it has been inspected for safety by a trusted adult. Adults should look for any open wrappers that indicate tampering.
- Be mindful of how much candy children eat. Try to include sugar-free treats or fruit and ration candy out for the days following Halloween.
- Drivers on this night should be cautious of pedestrians in road ways. Drive slowly, follow all road signs and be alert.
Trick or Treating times for children under age 14 in Wicomico County are:
- Salisbury: Friday, October 31st from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
- Pittsville: Friday, October 31st from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
- Delmar: Thursday October 30th from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
- Salisbury Jaycees Annual Treat Street on the downtown Salisbury Plaza: Friday October 31st from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
Any suspicious activity on Halloween night should be immediately reported to local authorities. Halloween remains fun if everyone is safe and healthy. For more Halloween tips visit www.safekids.org or the American Academy of Pediatrics at www.aap.org.
Mortgage Purchase Applications Plunge To 19-Year Lows
Presented with little comment.. because realistically what is there to say about a so-called 'housing recovery' when the volume of applications for home purchases is the lowest since August 1995. Keep believing that lower rates will support home prices... keep believing the Fed's QE worked... or face facts, this is not your mother's housing market any more...

Over 214,000 Doctors Opt Out of Obamacare Exchanges
Over 214,000 doctors won't participate in the new plans under the Affordable Care Act (ACA,) analysis of a new survey by Medical Group Management Association shows. That number of 214,524, estimated by American Action Forum, is through May 2014, but appears to be growing due to plans that force doctors to take on burdensome costs. It's also about a quarter of thetotal number of 893,851 active professional physicians reported by the Kaiser Family Foundation.
In January, an estimated 70% of California's physicians were not participating in Covered California plans.
Here are some of the reasons why:
1. Reimbursements under Obamacare are at bottom-dollar - they are even lower than Medicare reimbursements, which are already significantly below market rates. "It is estimated that where private plans pay $1.00 for a service, Medicare pays $0.80, and ACA exchange plans are now paying about $0.60," a study by the think-tank American Action Forum finds. "For example, Covered California plans are setting their plan fee schedules in line with that of Medi-Cal-California's Medicaid Program-which means exchange plans are cutting provider reimbursement by up to 40 percent."

Massive Non-Citizen Voting Uncovered in Maryland
An election integrity watchdog group is suing the state of Maryland, alleging that it has discovered massive and ongoing fraudulent voting by non-U.S. citizens in one county. But because of the way that the non-citizens are able to cast votes in elections, the fraud is likely happening in every single county and subdivision across the state. The group believes that the illegal voting has been happening for years.
The group, Virginia Voters Alliance, says that it compared how voters in Frederick County filled out jury duty statements compared with their voting records. The group’s investigation found that thousands of people in Frederick County who stated that they are not U.S. citizens on jury duty forms went on to cast votes in elections. Either they failed to tell the truth when they were summoned for jury duty, or they cast illegal votes. Both are crimes. The same group previously found that about 40,000 people are registered to vote in both Virginia and Maryland.
It is a federal crime to cast votes if you are not legally eligible to vote. Non-citizens, whether in the country legally or not, are prohibited from voting in most local and all state and federal elections. Yet the VVA investigation found that hundreds of non-citizens have been voting in Frederick County, Maryland. One in seven Maryland residents are non-U.S. citizens.
“The lawsuit is the equivalent of the lookout spotting the iceberg ahead of the Titanic,” state Del. Pat McDonough told the Tatler. He added that the group’s investigation found a voter fraud “smoking gun.”

CONFIRMED: NON-CITIZEN VOTERS BOOSTING DEMOCRATS
A new study puts numbers behind the claim that the votes of non-U.S. citizens in the 2008 presidential election handed the White House to Barack Obama.
The study authored by Jesse T. Richman, Gulshan A. Chattha and David C. Earnest, who are affiliated with Old Dominion and George Mason universities, found the number of non-citizen voters “could range from just over 38,000 at the very minimum to nearly 2.8 million at the maximum.”
Of the non-citizens who voted in 2008, the study found “81.8 percent reported voting for Barack Obama compared to 17.5 percent for John McCain.”
