Borderland Beat: Nine bodies found hanging off Nuevo Laredo bridge

The bodies of four women and five men were found hanging off a bridge in the Mexican border city of Nuevo Laredo with an apparent message from a drug gang, an army official said Friday.

The bodies showed signs of beating and torture and "we believe they were members of a criminal gang," the official said, declining to be named.

Photographs showed the bodies strung, with their hands tied, along a wide road bridge in the border city in northeast Mexico, across from Laredo, Texas, in a typical sign of score-settling between drug gangs.

A large banner hung nearby with a message alluding to gang disputes.

There were scenes of panic as road users first saw the bodies, which police reports said had been strung up early Friday.

New Photos Depict Horrific Conditions At Border Detention Center

New photos released by Rep. Henry Cuellar's (D-Texas) office depict the unsanitary and cramped living conditions that undocumented immigrants, many of whom are unaccompanied children, are experiencing in a detention center near the U.S.-Mexico border.

The photos were first published by the Houston Chronicle. Cuellar’s office declined Monday to tell Business Insider who took the photos and where exactly they were taken.

President Barack Obama has previously called the buildup of unaccompanied minors at temporary border facilities an "urgent humanitarian situation," and the government has directed considerable resources to housing and caring for the children. Customs and Border Protection, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security, is supposed to turn over minors to the Department of Health and Human Services within three days, but many children are remaining in detention facilities for longer periods due to the massive influx.

Bank of America fined $32M for ripping off retirees, charities

Bank of America has been fined more than $32 million by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority for ripping off money from retirement accounts and charity plans.

This is the second time the nation’s No. 2 lender has been caught skimming from retirees’ accounts, the New York Post reported. More than $24 million of the $32 million fine will go to pay customers back, bringing the total amount the bank’s paid for its two-time rip-off to $90 million, the newspaper said.

“From at least January 2006 through December 2011, Merrill Lynch disadvantaged tens of thousands of small business retirement plan customers,” the settlement read, the New York Post reported.

Weak sales for Hillary Clinton's book

Hillary Clinton's new book 'Hard Choices' is a 'bomb', according to a publishing source.

The former first lady's memoir - detailing her time as secretary of state under Obama - has sold just60,000 hardcover copies and 24,000 e-books, the source told The Weekly Standard.

The results come after publisher Simon & Schuster's 'hoping and praying' that 150,000 print copies would be sold in the first week after the book went on sale on June 10, the source added.

'Between us, they are nervous at S&S,' the source said. 'Sales were well below expectations and the media was a disaster... It's a bomb, but it will be interesting to see how they spin it.'

Megyn Kelly Grills Dick Cheney On Iraq, And Tells Him 'History Has Proven You Got It Wrong As Well, Sir'

Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly on Wednesday night grilled former Vice President Dick Cheney, who published an op-ed with his daughter Wednesday blasting President Barack Obama over his handling of the crisis in Iraq.

Dick and Liz Cheney wrote in their Wall Street Journal op-ed that "rarely" has a president ever been "so wrong about so much at the expense of so many."

On her show, "The Kelly File," Kelly read that quote to Cheney and said, "But time and time again, history has proven that you got it wrong as well, sir."

Kelly proceeded to fire off a list of Cheney's claims and pronouncements from his time at the White House that ended up being disputed or outright wrong — that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, that U.S. soldiers would be "greeted as liberators," that the Iraqi insurgency was "in its last throes" in 2005, and that extremists would have to "rethink their strategy of jihad" after the U.S. intervention.

"Now with almost one trillion dollars spent there with 4,500 American lives lost there, what do you say to those who say you were so wrong about so much at the expense of so many?" Kelly said.

Two Democrats Have A Proposal To Dismantle The FCC Plan That Could Ruin The Internet

The Federal Communications Commission in May approved a controversial proposal to create an “internet fast lane,” but two Democratic lawmakers will put forth a bill on Tuesday that would force the FCC to ban those same fast lanes, according to The Washington Post.

The new proposal was created by Senate Judiciary Committee chair Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Rep. Doris Matsui (D-Calif.). The bill — called the Online Competition And Consumer Choice Act — would require the FCC to use its authority to ensure internet providers don’t speed up or slow down certain types of content at the expense of others.

What began as a simple traffic stop ended in a humiliating and nightmarish ordeal for a New Mexico man. It won’t come as a surprise to most people why the man has now filed a federal civil rights lawsuit.

The incident began on Jan. 2 as David Eckert was leaving the local Walmart in Deming, N.M. He reportedly failed to make a complete stop at a stop sign, prompting police to pull him over.

The officers asked him to step out of the vehicle and claim the man appeared to be clenching his buttocks, Eckert’s attorney, Shannon Kennedy, told TheBlaze. It is unclear why police removed him from the vehicle in the first place. However, because the cops believed he was clenching his buttocks, they took it as reason to suspect him of hiding narcotics in his anal cavity.

Defense attorneys for accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev asked a federal judge Wednesday to move his upcoming trial to Washington, D.C.

The defense team said survey data showed there was "an overwhelming presumption of (Tsarnaev's) guilt" in Massachusetts because "an extraordinarily high number of individuals in the potential jury pool either attended or participated in the 2013 Boston Marathon, or personally know someone who did."

Fireworks To Celebrate Twin Cape Region 50s

Cape Henlopen State Park and the Cape May-Lewes Ferry are both celebrating their 50th anniversaries in 2014. The ferry went into service July 1, 1964, and the state park opened Oct. 17, 1964.
