The slaughter of hundreds of innocent civilians with chemical weapons "shocks the conscience of the world". It has provoked a debate that is dominating our press on how the U.S. should respond to punish the Assad regime. It appears that we are preparing to take some kind of action. But before we commit American lives and treasure, I hope we know the answer to a basic question that no one is discussing. What is the evidence that it was Assad that used the weapons and not the rebels?
There are no good guys in this civil war in which there are already over 100,000 casualties, but which side is currently the most desperate, Assad or the rebels? Why would Assad, whose forces have had the upper hand in recent months, decide to cross that "red line" to kill several hundred women and children, knowing that it would force Obama's hand, provoke an overwhelming response from the U.S. and our allies, and perhaps destroy his regime.. On the other hand, the rebels are very good at manipulating the Western media and would welcome a U.S. response that would perhaps wipe out Assad's air force or other assets.
The Assad regime agreed to allow U.N. inspectors into the area of the chemical attack, but the U.S. quickly discounted what they would find. Snipers attacked the U.N. team that was attempting to investigate.. The government said that that they had provided safety for the team until they reached a position controlled by the rebels, where it claimed the sniper attack occurred.
A Washington Times article by Shaun Waterman dated May 6, 2013 reported that "Testimony from victims strongly suggests it was the rebels, not the Syrian government, that used Sarin nerve gas during a recent incident in the revolution-wracked nation, a senior U.N. diplomat said Monday.". This was virtually ignored by our government at the time.
Congress must demand that Obama present the evidence to substantiate who used the chemical weapons before we jump into another Middle East conflict. We know that most of the rebel forces have been taken over by Al Qaeda, so it is not clear who it is we are helping. One of the few good things that could be said of Assad is that his secular regime has given reasonable protection to religious minorities. Christians, Druze, Alawite and other religious minorities have coalesced around the Assad regime out of fear that if the radical Islamists gain control of Syria, these minorities are likely to be decimated.
A U.S. military action deploying cruise missiles and drones may lead to far more civilian deaths than the recent chemical attack and is likely to provoke a Russian response. So what is our objective and where is this all leading us? One thing is for sure, it has certainly changed the conversation from Benghazi, NSA spying, and the IRS scandals --to 24/7 chatter about what Obama will do in Syria.

Doctors' Group President: Obamacare Rules 'Arbitrary and Capricious'
Dr. Juliette Madrigal-Dersch still makes house calls in Marble Falls, Texas.
She provides free health care to foster children, cancer patients, ministers, even teachers, and says her regular patients get better care than most because she refuses to accept private insurance or Medicare.
"The service is a lot better because all the decisions about health care are made just between the doctor and the patient," Madrigal-Dersch said in an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV.

A Red Carpet For Radicals At The White House
A year-long investigation by the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT) has found that scores of known radical Islamists made hundreds of visits to the Obama White House, meeting with top administration officials.
Court documents and other records have identified many of these visitors as belonging to groups serving as fronts for the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and other Islamic militant organizations.
The IPT made the discovery combing through millions of White House visitor log entries. IPT compared the visitors' names with lists of known radical Islamists. Among the visitors were officials representing groups which have:

Eat Your Broccoli aAd Prevent Arthritis: Study
A compound found in broccoli could be key to preventing or slowing the progress of the most common form of arthritis, according to new research led by the University of East Anglia in the UK.
Results from the laboratory study show that sulforaphane slows down the destruction of cartilage in joints associated with osteoarthritis. The researchers found that mice fed a diet rich in the compound had significantly less cartilage damage and osteoarthritis than those that were not.

Bob Shiller Warns "None Of This Is Real; The Housing Market Has Become Very Speculative"
With the Case-Shiller 20-City index up double-digits for the 4th straight month, Bob Shiller has some choice words for the CNBC interviewers about the 'housing recovery'. "Housing is a market with momentum," he notes, "and right now, the momentum is up;" but he adds that while house prices are 'recovering', he remains much less sanguine about this recent move. But it is once he has explained the potential concerns that may weigh on the housing market that Shiller comes into his own as he explains "none of this is real, the housing market has gotten very speculative."
Housing goes through "big cycles," he chides, noting that California "has gone up and down like a roller-coaster for decades but doesn't get anywhere... that's what these markets have become."
Perfectly summarizing the current situation, Shiller concludes, "for the long-term buyer, the fact that [prices] are going up now doesn't mean anything for where it will when you sell."
Must see clip as Shiller scoffs at the current sentiment, the resurgence of 'flipping', and that the housing market is "driven by irrational exuberance."

Dr. King's Nightmare: A War On Black America
With the exception of Thomas Jefferson’s words “when in the course of human events” written in the Declaration of Independence and President Lincoln’s words at Gettysburg of “a government of the people, for the people and by the people,” there are no words more powerful in the American experience than Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a dream…” which he so powerfully and eloquently delivered 50 years ago on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
Dr. King would be pleased to know that 50 years after his speech the “manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination” have been thoroughly broken.
While the stains of institutional racism have faded into our nation’s past, Dr. King’s dream of economic equality remains unfulfilled for many black Americans who remain mired in poverty.

Obamacare’s Hierarchy of Privilege
On his radio show the other day, Hugh Hewitt caught me by surprise and asked me about running for the United States Senate from New Hampshire. My various consultants, pollsters, PACs, and exploratory committees haven’t fine-tuned every detail of my platform just yet, but I can say this without a doubt: I will not vote for any “comprehensive” bill, whether on immigration, health care, or anything else. “Comprehensive” today is a euphemism for interminably long, poorly drafted, and entirely unread — not just by the people’s representatives but by our robed rulers, too (how many of those Supreme Court justices actually plowed through every page of Obamacare when its “constitutionality” came before them?). The 1862 Homestead Act, which is genuinely comprehensive, is two handwritten pages in clear English. “The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” is 500 times as long, is not about patients or care, and neither protects the former nor makes the latter affordable.

Council, OCDC Reach Deal On New Beach Patrol Home; Downtown Recreation Complex Plans Shelved Again
OCEAN CITY – The long awaited Ocean City Beach Patrol’s new headquarters got the green light this week to be funded in an upcoming bond issuance with a little help from the Ocean City Development Corporation (OCDC).
Earlier this month, City Manager Terry McGean presented the Mayor and Council with a draft of the Town of Ocean City Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2014-2018.
McGean highlighted several proposed projects that are FY14 and FY15 scheduled bond funded projects that he wanted the Mayor and City Council to keep in mind during future discussions. A project that has been left on the drawing board for some time was the construction of a new headquarters for the Ocean City Beach Patrol (OCBP).

California Man Registers Dog To Vote
America's debate on voting rights typically centers on voter discrimination and ID laws. But on the Central Coast, there's a voting controversy over a dog.
Richard Davis doesn't think dogs should vote, but he used his golden retriever, named Cooper, to expose flaws in Monterey County's election system.
The Pacific Grove man went online and filled out a voter registration form for Cooper. The pooch received a registration card in Davis' mailbox showing that Cooper is now a registered voter in Monterey County. The dog also got a voter ID number.
