Nearly two weeks after Oakland TV station KTVU became the laughing stock of the season for airing an “exclusive” list of obviously bogus Asiana airline pilot names, three producers at the station have been given the axe.

Where Public High School Costs $600, Including A Mandatory Chromebook

It’s not unusual to see public schools that charge students for extracurriculars or sports, but we were surprised to see this bill from an Illinois school district where it costs $586 to enroll in tenth grade, including $300 for a Chromebook.

Obama Erases Campaign Promises From Election Website

President Transparency, in the interest of protecting his Administration’s spotless record of least transparent ever, has decided to erase sections of his original campaign website so that inconvenient and broken promises (ie, every single thing he said) can’t be so easily exposed. Although clearly no one goes to the campaign site for groundbreaking news, it had served as a useful platform to compare candidate Obama to the George W. Bush clone he has become as President. From Policy Mic:

In a recent blog post by the Sunlight Foundation, the watchdog organization curiously notes how the Obama administration has removed previously available content from then candidate Obama’s famous 2008 campaign platform, Change.gov. While the site has long since served as a landing page to redirect traffic towards the now President Obama’s whitehouse.gov, the content of the website, particularly the materials and agenda pages, has always been accessible. However, very recently, access to such information is now no longer supported through the site and appears to have been “scrubbed” off the internet (of course, you can still access archived forms of the aforementioned pages).

WAFFLE HOUSE ARMED ROBBER GETS THE SURPRISE OF A LIFETIME WHEN CUSTOMER DECIDES TO FIGHT BACK WITH A GUN

An Atlanta crook picked the wrong Waffle House to target early Monday morning. That’s because when the bandana and hoodie-wearing bandit walked into the restaurant and pointed a gun at patrons, one of them reached for his gun and fired back.

Police say the suspect entered the Waffle House in south Fulton County just before 2 am, brandishing a pistol and demanding money.

“Nobody move and open the cash register,” the suspect, 20-year-old Ashton Macafee, allegedly said according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC).

What he didn’t know was that seated together at a booth were off-duty Atlanta police officer Jonathan Sutton and his friend, off-duty security guard Evans Chad Pollard.

The Fate Of Army Pvt. Bradley Manning Decided Today

After a long trial, a military judge will announce her decision on the fate of Army Pvt. Bradley Manning this afternoon. Manning is charged with leaking secret military and State Department documents to the WikiLeaks website in 2010. At the time, he was working in what the Army calls a tactical-sensitive, compartmented information facility near Baghdad. Manning already pleaded guilty to 10 charges that will put him in prison for up to 20 years. If convicted on 11 other charges, he could face life in prison for aiding the enemy. The court martial judge is Col. Denise Lind. Manning chose a single judge instead of a panel.

WHY THE MSM IS WORTHLESS & CORRUPT

People sometimes ask me why the media are so obtuse, why they seem to have so little grasp of the country they live in, and why the internet is eating them alive.

I ask them to think of Tom Clancy. He wrote a book that with its children would be worth many, many millions of dollars, and shopped it around the publishing houses of New York. They all bounced it. No interest. It probably got no further than a first reader, a recent co-ed at Barnard who thought a submarine was a sandwich. Clancy? Some crackpot who thinks he can write.

He sent it to the Naval Institute Press, which published it. It took off hugely. Only then did New York get involved.

You might ask: Why did the sophisticated (one would think) professionals of publishing, highly intelligent, very educated, with long years in the book racket—why did they not grab at The Hunt for Red October? Certainly it wasn´t a conspiracy. Nobody conspires not to make money.

The answer: They live in a bubble. They eat together, drink together, talk to each other. They think in unison. They largely went to the same schools, Ivies. They could all join Mensa if they wanted, but they don´t, because in New York you don´t have to hunt for smart company. They all know who Zola was. They can tell Goya from El Greco at a glance.

It's Not Just Marriage, Democrats Want To Redefine EVERYTHING

A 101-Year-Old Test For 8th Graders

KEY POINT: "... the latest effort to address greenhouse gas emissions in Maryland — an ambitious plan released last week by Gov. Martin O'Malley — ought to be required reading, particularly by those who dismiss such efforts as too costly or unnecessary. ...Naysayers may remain skeptical, but Maryland has already taken substantial action to reduce the state's climate change footprint. The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative has used an emissions cap-and-trade system to invest millions in energy efficiency, clean energy technology and other consumer benefits, and the Clean Cars Program has reduced tailpipe emissions (and raised fuel efficiency standards) — both examples of progress that has already been made without harm to the economy."
Maryland's climate opportunity
Our view: Gov. O'Malley's road map for aggressively reducing greenhouse gas emissions offers a chance for the state's economy to bloom along with the environment.

IRS Employee Union: We Don’t Want Obamacare

IRS employees have a prominent role in Obamacare, but their union wants no part of the law.

National Treasury Employees Union officials are urging members to write their congressional representatives in opposition to receiving coverage through President Obama’s health care law.

The union leaders are providing members with a form letter to send to the congressmen that says “I am very concerned about legislation that has been introduced by Congressman Dave Camp to push federal employees out of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program and into the insurance exchanges established under the Affordable Care Act.”

The NTEU represents 150,000 federal employees overall, including most of the nearly 100,000 IRS workers.

FDA Finally Realizes Maybe It’s Time To Do A Better Job Of Improving The Safety Of Imported Foods

Perhaps your kitchen is only stocked with locally sourced organic food, but around 15% of what Americans eat — including half the fresh fruit, one-fifth of fresh veggies and 80% of fish — comes from around 150 different countries. So, finally getting around to implementing changes mandated by the 2011 Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), the Food and Drug Administration has proposed a couple rules aimed at beefing up controls on imported edibles.
The first major rule change proposed by the FDA gives U.S. food importers guidelines for verifying that their suppliers’ food meets U.S. food safety requirements. Importers would be required to identify the specific hazards associated with each type of food they bring in and take proactive measures to minimize these risks.

Conservatives Should Be More Racially Sensitive

Like it or not, the George Zimmerman-Trayvon Martin story has triggered a national conversation about race. President Obama waded into the controversy with much-hyped remarks on the incident July 19, which provoked a harsh reaction from some conservatives. I’m inclined to agree with the Daily Beast’s Kirsten Powers that this reaction is indicative of why Republican outreach efforts to minority groups are unlikely to succeed.

The problem, I think, is not widespread racism, but enough examples of racial insensitivity to create the impression that conservatives don’t care about the African American community.

If somebody is going to criticize anything about Obama’s speech, I could see how one might argue it was fluff that tried to assuage both sides without saying much. But personally, as I said at the time, I thought he struck the right tone. And I don’t get the accusation that Obama was engaging in race-baiting.
