PHILLY ABORTION DOCTOR GUILTY IN 3 BABIES' DEATHS

A Philadelphia abortion doctor was found guilty Monday of first-degree murder and could face execution in the deaths of three babies who authorities say were delivered alive and then killed with scissors at his grimy clinic, in a case that became a flashpoint in the nation's debate over abortion.

Dr. Kermit Gosnell, 72, was cleared in the death of a fourth baby, who prosecutors say let out a soft whimper before he snipped its neck.

Gosnell was also found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the drug-overdose death of a patient who had undergone an abortion.

Although many law enforcement agencies and FBI uniform crime report statistics state crime is down, public perception is that crime has increased. Especially violent crime. 

Unfortunately, statistical data does not represent the fact that we as citizens are still at serious risk of random crimes. Criminals today are more brazen than ever before. Active shooters and home invaders are a serious threat to our safety. Moreover, serious drug abuse such as heroin and methamphetamine are on the rise and has been steadily increasing over the past 5 years. Unfortunately, our state governor and elected officials in Maryland have decided for us that gun control is a priority, has made it more difficult than ever to legally purchase a firearm, has legalized marijuana, has eliminated the death penalty, and made it more difficult to obtain a firearms carry permit.

Many criminals are opportunistic. There are steps you can follow to enhance your safety:
Keep doors and windows locked at all times. This includes your house and car. Many criminals patrol the streets looking for open doors on vehicles. An open door at your home is an invitation for a home invasion. 
Don’t open the door to strangers. This seems like a simple premise but people still invite people into their homes without knowing them. 
Be aware of your surroundings. When walking to any establishment or to work keep your wits about you. Don’t text while walking, look around for potential threats. 
Don’t keep valuables in your vehicle. 
The more home and business protection you have the better. Criminals typically look for homes that are less protected then more protected. Get an alarm system, get a protection dog, get good doors and door locks, get cameras, and lastly get firearms training. 
Don’t hangout with drug users and/or dirtbags. Some drug users become so desperate for money that they will steal from lifelong friends and relatives. People with problems make their problems your problems. Don’t invite these people into your home. You may come home to find your home burglarized. 
Keep firearms locked away from your children when you are not there to supervise them. Keep your firearms locked away from mentally unstable family members. 
If you are shopping for a firearm, get good advice. Firearms with lasers are a top pick for those who think it will assist them in protecting themselves. Lasers , like any other mechanical device, are subject to fail. First get night sights (you need to see your sights in the dark), then a weapons light (you need to see your threat), and lastly a laser if you so desire. A laser is a nice toy but, is not a replacement for good training. 
If you have a firearm, get training with it. Taking the firearm to the range and shooting at static targets is fine but does not accurately represent a violent encounter. Popular American psychologist Joyce Brothers has died, her daughter said Monday. She was 85.

"She passed away peacefully and in her home ... with her family all around her," Lisa Brothers said.

Brothers, best known by her professional title Dr. Joyce Brothers, gained fame as a frequent guest on television talk shows and as an advice columnist for Good Housekeeping magazine and newspapers throughout the United States.

Motor Scooter Collides Into Police Vehicle

On May 13, 2013, at approximately 2:15 a.m., an Ocean City Police vehicle was hit by a motor scooter on Coastal Highway at 41st Street. The Ocean City Police officer involved was stopped in his patrol vehicle at a traffic light in the southbound turn lane at 41st Street. The driver of the scooter, who was later identified as Edward Thomas Johnson, 25, of Salisbury, then collided into the rear of the patrol vehicle causing him to be ejected from his scooter.

The officer involved immediately began to render aid to Johnson, who was wearing a helmet; however, it became dislodged as a result of the collision and failed to fully protect him. Johnson was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center by Ocean City EMS for treatment. His medical status is unknown at this time. The officer involved was also treated and released at Atlantic General Hospital for minor injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate this incident. Johnson is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol.

MUSLIM PLOTTED TO KILL 100,000 IN CHEMICAL ATTACK

Plan was to contaminate air or water supply in major U.S. city

A Muslim man arrested last month in a terror plot in New York was planning to kill as many as 100,000 people by contaminating the air or water supply in a major U.S. city, the FBI alleges.
Ahmed Abassi, 26, was studying chemical engineering at Laval University in Quebec City, reports Canada’s CBC News.

Abassi’s plan did not materialize beyond discussions, but he is also being linked to Chiheb Esseghaier, one of two Canadian residents arrested in the alleged plot to derail a Via passenger train.

CBC News said American investigators have accused Abassi of fraudulently applying for a visa to stay in the U.S. to “facilitate an act of international terrorism.”

1/3 Population of Puerto Rico Gets Food Stamps from U.S. Gov’t -- $2 Billion in 2012

The federal government spent more than $2 billion to provide food stamps to Puerto Rico in 2012, up to 25 percent of which is untraceable because it is distributed in cash and there is “no way to verify that funds are spent on food,” according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The funds are used to supply more than one-third of the population of Puerto Rico with food stamps.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Nutrition Assistance Program (NAP) for Puerto Rico, an unincorporated territory of the United States, received $2 billion in Nutrition Assistance Block Grants in fiscal year 2012.

Colorado Lawmakers Set Taxes And Rules For Marijuana Sales

Colorado is set to become the first U.S. state to regulate and tax sales of recreational marijuana, after lawmakers approved several bills that set business standards and rules. Legislators expect enforcement of the rules to be paid for by two taxes on marijuana — a 15 percent excise tax, and a 10 percent sales tax.

Other measures included in the package set limits on how much marijuana visitors to Colorado can buy (a quarter of an ounce), as well as a limit on how many cannabis plants a private citizen can grow (six).

Gov. John Hickenlooper has indicated he will sign the legislation, according to The Denver Post. Colorado voters first approved the legalization of pot for recreational use by people over age 21 in a ballot initiative last November.

Voters adopted a similar measure in Washington state, where plans for regulation and taxation are still being formed.

"The first legal marijuana should be on sale in Washington in March 2014," reports the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, "and Colorado will have its cannabis stores open as soon as Jan. 1."

Obama Expands Reading Program – In Kenya!

Millions of children will be targeted to improve their reading skills over the next five years under a new Obama administration literacy program in nearly 30,000 public and private primary schools.

But the schools are not in the U.S., they’re in the Republic of Kenya.

The tentatively titled Kenya Early Grade Reading Project, or KEGRP, seeks to implement national curriculum standards, deploy more than 1,000 trainers to assist tens of thousands teachers and improve the ratio of textbooks to students. The Obama administration didn’t reveal the cost of the program.

Cheryl Casati, 62, who retired from the Air Force after 20 years, watched it all unfold on television back in November 1963. She said she’s “extremely sure” there was a conspiracy. The killing of Oswald, the accused shooter, just days after the assassination is part of the reason why.

“There’s too many holes in explanations,” the Phoenix-area woman said. “That just could not have happened easily in that time and place. And (Jack) Ruby shooting (Oswald) could not have happened as easily as it did.”
