No one questions that “something” is brewing, or rather simmering beneath the surface in America. The discontent, having finally reached the heretofore silently and sublimely disaffected youth who are occupying Wall Street and any other street in any other town you might mention, is a phenomenon that has every journalist and blogger on the planet analyzing their heads off. Is the OWS movement the left’s Tea Party? Will progressive politicians regret throwing in with the legions of urban campers? Do these people have a platform? Who is supporting them? Over 50 organizations from across the state to receive funding
ANNAPOLIS, MD (October 28, 2011) – On MONDAY, Governor Martin O’Malley will join U.S. Senator Ben Cardin and Attorney General Doug Gansler, advocates, community leaders, families and friends of domestic violence victims, and other state and local officials to announce over 50 S*T*O*P (Services, Training, Officers and Prosecutors) Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) awards to organizations from across the state.
The VAWA program is administered by the Governor's Office of Crime Control & Prevention, and provides funding to law enforcement, prosecution, the court system and non-profit, non-government victim service agencies. Recipients are encouraged to forge lasting partnerships between the criminal justice system and victim advocacy organizations, and to look beyond traditional resources by partnering with community and faith-based organizations to respond more vigorously to domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking crimes.
In Maryland, there were 38 domestic violence-related homicides in calendar years 2009 and 2010 combined. In fiscal year 2010, there were over 18,000 temporary and over 9,000 final protective orders filed in Maryland. According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, Maryland is ranked 17th in terms of call volume.

'GOP Is The New Black' Claim Texas Billboards
Conservative group Raging Elephants delivered what they call "a gut shot to socialists" when they unveiled three new billboards in Austin, Texas touting that the "GOP is the new black."
The ads were released to encourage more black voters to embrace the Republican party. Raging Elephants contends that many African-Americans share conservative viewpoints on a number of social issues such as abortion and marriage and should vote that way.

Motorists are being asked to not only drive with extreme caution, but also to drive extra slow in neighborhoods and residential areas.
Children will be walking house to house and depending on the availability of sidewalks, may be near or actually on the roadway.
With all the trick or treating excitement, children may inadvertently dart across the street into the path of moving vehicles.
Trick or Treating Safety
Children should never go trick or treating alone, they should always have a parent or a group of friends with them at all times.

Costumes should always fit properly.
Consider face paint instead of masks as they can obstruct a child’s vision.
Trick or Treaters should always carry a flashlight.

The Church of England has had 468 years to work on its public relations strategy. The Occupy London protestors camped around St Paul's Cathedral have had rather less time to perfect theirs. And when the two movements first collided on Oct. 15, it looked like experience would triumph over greenhorn enthusiasm. After the protestors' befuddlingly odd attempt to emulate Occupy Wall Street by occupying the London Stock Exchange on a Saturday (the stock exchange operates 8am-4. 35pm Monday-Friday), the cathedral authorities permitted the protestors to pitch tents on their nearby doorstep instead. St Paul's Canon Chancellor, the Reverend Dr Giles Fraser even asked police to move from their position outside St Paul's. "I didn't feel that [the building] needed that sort of protection," he said.

The incident happened at approximately 10:50 p.m. Thursday as a male suspect entered a residence located in the 8600 block of North Street, Bridgeville, DE. The suspect, who was armed with two handguns, confronted the 32 year old male resident of the home and began demanding cash from him. After the victim advised that suspect that he did not have any money to give him, the suspect took the victim’s cellular phone and laptop computer. He then fled from the home in an unknown direction. The victim was not injured.

Despite that simple desire, Mathews said she nearly died after giving birth to the twins she carried for Theresa and Rudolf Bakos of Austria, and her family now finds itself entangled in a legal and financial imbroglio.
According to NBC Colorado’s 9News, which originally reported the story, Mathews contacted the National Adoption and Surrogacy Center, which introduced her to several families looking for a surrogate.
Despite that simple desire, Mathews said she nearly died after giving birth to the twins she carried for Theresa and Rudolf Bakos of Austria, and her family now finds itself entangled in a legal and financial imbroglio.

Occupying The Jewish Question
The effort to smear Occupy Wall Street as an anti-Semitic movement came to a head last week, when The Emergency Committee for Israel (ECI) released an ad, following, as they do, the Anti-Defamation League's demand for an apology and condemning the month-old movement as a proponent of hate speech. (The next day, it is worth knowing, Rachel Abrams, who sits on the ECI's board, called for genocide to include Palestinian children, and the Anti-Defamation League didn't bat an eyelash.) It would seem there have been some anti-Semites, spouting the same Jewish banker insinuations that have plagued the last few centuries of Western life, down at Liberty Plaza Park.
That may be, and on at least one occasion, the population of the park at large decided to shout down an anti-Semite, impressing upon him in satisfyingly hostile ways the importance of inclusion. This "anti-Semite" brouhaha has arisen largely on disingenuous grounds. The corporatist right wing, unable to counter Occupy Wall Street's charges of corruption and depravity, has decided to change the subject and attack Occupy Wall Street's character instead, resorting to that old favorite, charges of anti-Semitism.
For the right wing, determined to be offended notwithstanding the absence of offense, the vigorous participation and endorsement of prominent Jews is inadmissible evidence on Occupy Wall Street's behalf. As Jeff Sharlet, himself Jewish, points out, Jewish signatories to the Occupy Writers list include Elisa Albert, Steve Almond, Eric Alterman, James Atlas, David Bezmogis, Max Blumenthal, Randy Cohen, Morris Dickstein, Kira Brunner, Janice Eidus, Eve Ensler, Kiera Feldman, Nell Freudenberger, Mila Goldberg, Myra Goldberg, Arthur Goldwag, Matthew Goodman, and just a few others. According to the good folks at Commentary and its comrade publications, appearances and speeches at the park by everyone from Joseph Stiglitz to Naomi Klein are irrelevant.
But that's just the point: to them, even anti-Semitism is irrelevant. Does anyone think that Bill Kristol and D.G. Myers and the rest of the Wall Street-financed bloc would be supporters even if Occupy Wall Street were a specifically Jewish organization? Of course not. The deranged conspiracy theorist with his sign is merely the latest trial balloon the right wing has floated in its mission to deflect attention from substantive critiques of our economy's overfinancialization, the extremely active revolving door, drastic recent increases in wealth inequality, callous budget cuts targeting programs of critical value to the most vulnerable Americans etc. When they stop arguing the points and start attacking you personally, you know you've hit a nerve.

I see that the Murdoch empire is facing another scandal — this time involving misleading advertisers rather than readers, by inflating circulation numbers.
Nick Davies reported in an article for The Guardian published on Oct. 12: “One of Rupert Murdoch’s most senior European executives has resigned following Guardian inquiries about a circulation scam at News Corporation’s flagship newspaper, The Wall Street Journal. The Guardian found evidence that The Journal had been channeling money through European companies in order to secretly buy thousands of copies of its own paper at a knock-down rate, misleading readers and advertisers about The Journal’s true circulation.”
Wow. And yet we should have expected something like this to come to light.

Boy, 13, Ill After Smoking Synthetic Pot, Dies
A Pennsylvania eighth-grader who became ill after smoking synthetic marijuana and had a double lung transplant has died.
Tonya Rice told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that her 13-year-old son, Brandon, died Thursday morning at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh at UPMC.
The boy smoked the fake marijuana out of a plastic PEZ candy dispenser and suffered chemical burns to both lungs as a result. He was put on a respirator in June and had a double-lung transplant in September.
Foreigners Sell Second Largest Amount Of US Bonds Ever In Past Week, Record $93 Billion In US Paper Sold In Past 2 Months
Two weeks ago when we reported [7]that there had been a record consecutive week dump of US Treasury paper in the Fed's custodial account, as reported by the weekly H.4.1, [8]we made the assumption that this was China preemptively selling US paper. Well, that may or may not have been the case, but it was only part of the full story. We have now learned that Europe, and especially Germany has been just an active seller of sovereign bonds, most certainly including US paper, in recent weeks. As FAZ reports [9], the head of Commerzbank Martin Blessing has been dumping all bonds in his possession, primarily PIIGS paper, but also US and German ones. He does add the clarification that this has been a complicated project as there has been a buyer's strike (and with the CDS extinction it will only get more difficult as there is no natural hedge remaining), and his dumping has certainly not made things easier. Now as we all know by now, when starting a panic exodus, one has to be first, be smarter, or cheat. Here we will add a fourth one: or sell US paper. After all the demand for this is nearly insatiable, or so the neo-Keynesians out there will have us believe. Well, in the last week, someone used our definition. According to today's update [8]in the H.4.1, the total amount of securities held in the custodial account for foreign official and international accounts just plunged by $20 billion, of which $19 billion was attributable solely to Treasurys: the second largest weekly dumb ever. And since this total number includes both Treasurys, which are used for political purposes, as well as Agency securities, which don't really serve much in terms of a diplomatic statement but are great at shoring up liquidity, one can assume that the relentless selling in all types of US paper has had one purpose only: to generate capital. As the third chart shows, that amount is substantial: in the last 8 weeks foreigners have sold a unprecedented $93 billion across the custodial account bringing it to $3.392 trillion, the lowest since March 2011! So the next time someone asks where European banks are finding emergency liquidity now that commercial paper, money market and Libor Markets are all dead, you will have the answer.

Panel Points To China As Suspect In U.S. Satellite Hacks
Though not traced to China, actions said to follow patterns of Chinese military
WASHINGTON — At least two U.S. environment-monitoring satellites were interfered with four or more times in 2007 and 2008 via a ground station in Norway, and China's military is a prime suspect, a draft report to Congress said.
The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, which reported the interference, said the events had not actually been traced to China. It said it was citing them "because the techniques appear consistent with authoritative Chinese military writings" that have advocated disabling satellite control facilities in any conflict.
Some Big Banks Back Down From Debit-Card Fee
Bank of America triggered outrage among customers last month when it announced plans to impose a $5 monthly fee next year for using a debit card. Even President Barack Obama weighed in, saying banks shouldn't take advantage of their customers.

Navy Ship Commander Faces Court-Martial Over Alleged Sexual Assault Of Crew Members
SAN DIEGO – A Navy ship commander accused of sexually assaulting two women on his crew this year is slated to appear in a San Diego military court Friday.
Cmdr. Jay Wylie is facing a general court-martial, the military court reserved for the most serious offenses, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Wylie is the former skipper of the Everett, Wash.-based destroyer USS Momsen.
