Students Invent Vibrating Shoe For the Blind
The students have come up with a shoe covered in sensors that will vibrate once an obstacle is approached. The sensor nearest to the object will begin to shake — and the closer the obstacle, the faster the vibration.
Dr. Dinesh Bhatia of the University of Texas at Dallas supervised the group of students, whose objective was to eliminate the need for the blind to use canes while walking.

Why Don't Women's and Men's Libidos Match Up?
In romance novels, soap operas, and Cosmo magazine, women are usually portrayed as having an insatiable appetite for sex--easily matching or even exceeding their partner's desire to get it on. And why not? Ever since the sixties' sexual revolution, we've been taught to believe that a woman's sex drive should be equal to a man's...and sex should be something you want to have any chance you get.
Okay, who's rolling their eyes right about now?

Fighting the Feds: 2012 Candidates Want States to Control Education
It’s back-to-school time, as President Obama reminded the nation in hisannual back-to-school speech today. And during election season, no school year begins without stirring up education reform debates.
But this election is all about the economy and will likely revolve around what role the federal government should play in stimulating job growth, not how much it should spend on merit pay or standardized testing.
So when it comes to education policy debates, whether it’s the Democratic incumbent or the array of Republican challengers, all eyes – and talking points – are on two things: the federal government’s role and the overall cost.
Hackers Turned Journalists? Anonymous Launches 'Analytics' Site
It's the career move no-one was expecting from Anonymous: going from faceless hackers to investigative journalists exposing corporate corruption via a specially-created website. Okay, alright...maybe it's not that unexpected from a headless collective with a propensity for resetting expectations.
The site, Anonymous Analytics, launched on Monday and seeks to, in its words, "provide the public with investigative reports exposing corrupt companies" using a team that includes "analysts, forensic accountants, statisticians, computer experts, and lawyers from various jurisdictions and backgrounds."
Worker Allegedly Fired for Being Overweight
A Texas worker is suing his employer for firing him because he weighed 680 pounds.
EEOC, which filed the lawsuit on behalf of the worker, Ronald Kratz II, alleges that BAE Systems, a company that manufactures military vehicles, violated federal disability laws by firing its morbidly obese employee.
Kratz insists his weight did not interfere with his ability to perform his job duties as a parts sorter. His employer determined that it did.

By All Means, Let’s Keep Arguing Over `Class Warfare’
Steve Benen made an interesting point this morning, noting that the viral Elizabeth Warren video rebutting the bogus charge of “class warfare” is “starting to have an impact on the national discourse.”
Indeed, President Obama has gone out of his way to rebut the “class warfare” charge in just about every appearance he’s made in recent days. I don’t know if Obama’s pushback is based on Warren’s arguments, but he certainly seems to be amplifying his rebuttal in ways strikingly similar to the case Warren made. Here is Obama in Colorado yesterday:

Dylan Ratigan Campaigns For Constitutional Amendment
“Everyone in politics is wearing a suicide vest of money,” Ratigan tells POLITICO. “If anyone takes off the suicide vest of money, the other members of the tribe push the button and blow them to smithereens … There is a green curtain around Washington, D.C. It prevents debate on structural issues that are critical to how all others are dealt with. That’s what needs to change first so we can change everything else.”
