Charges: Driving on Suspended License

Resume: On the above date and time, a silver Saturn was observed by Fruitland officers travelling northbound at a speed that appeared to exceed the posted limit of 45 mph.
Electronic speed devise revealed the vehicle to being operated at 58 mph. The vehicle was stopped for the traffic violation and the operator was subsequently identified as Eatl Thomas Marshall 3rd by his Md. drivers’ license. A computer inqiuiry from DMV revealed the accused’s driving privileges were suspended. Another computer inquiry revealed a history of CDS violations associated with the accused. A search of the accused and the vehicle he had been operating produced evidence of CDS possession. He was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Wicomico County Detention Center and remanded to the custody of Central Booking.

Resume’: On the above date and time a gray Lincoln Towncar bearing Virginia registration was observed travelling southbound on Rt. 13 with inoperable rear lights. Fruitland officers stopped the vehicle and were advised by the operator the he did not have a license. Subsequent inquiries revealed registration violations. The accused provided officers with false information regarding his identity. The true identity of the accused was discovered and it was learned the accused’s driving privileges were suspended out of state, that he had no Maryland license and that a Warrant exsisted for his arrest from Worcester County. A search of the vehicle produced CDS which was seized. The accused was transported to the Wicomico County Dentention Center and remanded to the custody of Central Booking.

Resume” On the above date and time while conducting stationary radar operations in the visinity of S. Fruitland Blvd. and Warren Street, a green Mercury Marquise was observed travelling southbound on Rt 13 at what appeared at aspeed above the posted speed limit. A radar reading indicating a speed of 55 mph in a 45 mph zone was recorded. Officers began to persue the vehicle and observed it to excellerate rapidly. Another radar reading was obtained resulting in a speed of 84 mph being indicated. As the officer’s vehicle closed on the Mercury a small white object was thrown from the driver’s side window which struck and bounced off the officer’s windshield. The Mercury was stopped approximately ¼ mile further.
The operator was identified as the accused and found to not have a driver’s license. Suspected marijuana was discovered in a cup holder next to the driver and further examination revealed additional suspected marijuana in the vehicle. The accused was charged with multiple traffic offenses, littering and CDS violations. A search for the item thrown from the Mercury during the persuit was conducted without success. The accused was transported to the Wicomico County Detention Center and remanded to the custody of Central Booking.

Can you post on your site that I found a cat (well, the cat found me). It is black with white paws. It is very friendly and came right to me. I know it has a home somewhere, but I cannot keep it because I have 3 dogs. It found its way to my porch and was asleep on my couch.... :o( Please post this on your blog to see if anyone is missing a cat or wants to adopt this one....it breaks my heart to keep hearing it meowing, but I dont know what else to do...... I live on Dove Point Lane in Salisbury, which is right off of Riverside Drive. My number is 443-944-8456.

Benefits Commission Recommends Health Insurance Cuts, Shifting Teacher Pension Costs
A commission on state retirement benefits voted Monday to recommend cutting the state costs of health insurance 10% by hiking premiums and reducing coverage for state employees and retirees, and shifting half the costs of teacher pensions to local school boards over the next three to five years.
The commission also proposed increasing the age and length of service to qualify for a state pension and other changes that would reduce the future payouts to retirees.
The health and pension moves could save the state a total of $400 million if fully implemented, but representatives of state workers, teachers and school boards immediately slammed the action by the Public Employees’ and Retirees’ Benefit Sustainability Commission.

Violent, Property Crime Downward Trend Holds Nationally
The nation experienced a 6.2 percent decrease in the number of violent crimes and a 2.8 percent decline in the number of property crimes from January to June 2010, when compared with data from the same time period in the prior year, according to FBI statistics released Monday.
The FBI's Preliminary Semiannual Uniform Crime Report is based on information from more than 12,000 law enforcement agencies that submitted three to six comparable months of data to the FBI during the first six months of both 2009 and 2010.
The data showed that the number of violent and property crimes reported continued to drop this year despite significant declines in the nation's economy - surprising some experts who historically have seen crime increase during difficult economic periods. While the FBI report does not list a reason for the decline, many experts have attributed it to an aging population and increases in law enforcement funding.
According to the report, from January to June 2010, all four of the offense types in the violent crime category declined nationwide when compared with data for the same time period in 2009. Robbery fell 10.7 percent, murder was down 7.1 percent, forcible rape declined 6.2 percent, and aggravated assault decreased 3.9 percent.
Violent crime declined in all city groups, with the largest decrease, 8.3 percent, in cities with populations of 500,000 to 999,999 people. Violent crime also was down in both nonmetropolitan and metropolitan counties, with declines of 7.6 percent and 6.2 percent, respectively.
For the six-month comparison period, violent crime fell in all four regions of the nation: 7.8 percent in the South, 7.2 percent in both the Midwest and the West, and 0.2 percent in the Northeast. The Northeast was the only region to experience an increase in murders, 5.7 percent. Murder declined in the other three regions - 12.0 percent in the South, 7.1 percent in the West and 6.3 percent in the Midwest.

The Wicomico County Council of PTAs (WCCPTA) will hold a reception and awards ceremony at Parkside High School for the Reflections program. Many winning art and writing entries from Wicomico students will be displayed starting at 6 p.m., with awards starting at 6:30 p.m.

The January meeting of the Wicomico County Board of Education will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, in the Board of Education Auditorium at Mt. Hermon Road and Long Avenue in Salisbury. The agenda will be posted at www.wcboe.org the Friday before the meeting. 410-677-4561.

Wrestling Tournament
Hosted by Wicomico High School at the WYCC
The 16th Annual Bob Rowe Memorial (formerly Delmarva Classic) Wrestling Tournament will be hosted by the Wicomico High School Wrestling Team at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center on Jan. 14-15. Wrestling will start at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14 and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15. There will be four mats of varsity action and three mats of JV action over both days. Admission is $15 for the weekend, or $10 a day (no WCBOE passes will be honored). The tournament will serve as a fundraiser for the Wi-Hi Wrestling Team. 410-677-5146.

PTA Movie Family Night
Prince Street Elementary
The Prince Street Elementary PTA will host a Movie Family Night with the new version of “The Karate Kid” and Mitchell’s Martial Arts there to do a demonstration. The evening will begin at 6 p.m., with the movie starting at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $1. 410-677-5813.

STEM Saturday
Salisbury Middle School
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Saturday classes will be offered throughout the 2010-11 school year for students in grades 4/5 and 6/7/8. The next STEM Saturday will be held at Salisbury Middle School from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Jan. 15, with students in grades 4-5 exploring Green Keepers: Going Green to Preserve Our World, and middle schoolers working on The Bug Detective. The elementary offerings are new to the STEM Saturdays schedule this year. Anyone interested in attending a STEM Saturday event must pre-register, and early registration is recommended as the courses fill up early. STEM Saturdays will also be held Feb. 12, The Magic of Chemistry (elementary) and Out of Sight: Bringing Astronomy Down to Earth (middle), both at Salisbury Middle; March 12, Flying Wild: Bird Science and Conservation (elementary) at Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art; Fossils of the Chesapeake: A Hands-On Exploration (middle) at Parkside High; and April 9, The Bug Detective (elementary) and The Science Behind Winning (middle), both at Salisbury Middle. Superintendent’s Open Door Session

A Superintendent’s Open Door Session will take place Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 4-6 p.m., in the Administrative Conference Room at the Board of Education Office. The Open Door Sessions are opportunities to meet one-on-one with Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Fredericksen to discuss any issue, idea or concern. No appointments are made: Anyone interested in meeting with the superintendent should come to the Board office that day and sign in.
