Selbyville-Sunday September 19, 2010 Delaware State Police investigated a home invasion on the 35000 block of S. Sea Gull Road in the Swann Estates development Selbyville Delaware.
The home invasion began around 8:55 p.m. when a 72 year old Selbyville man heard his doorbell ring. The victim went to his front door and observed a white male wearing a black jacket, white t-shirt, grey sweatpants and white sneakers. The victim was told by the suspect that he had been pushing his car which was out of gas and needed his assistance.
The victim told the suspect he did not have any gas however he would allow the suspect to use the telephone. The victim returned with his house phone opened the door at which time the suspect displayed a handgun. A struggle ensued with the victim and suspect which resulted in the victim falling to the ground. The suspect again pointed his firearm at the victim and demanded money and prescription medication.
The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of money and prescription medication and fled the residence. The victim did not require medical attention.
Delaware State Police is seeking the public’s assistance in solving this home invasion. Anyone with information is asked to contact Troop 4. Callers may remain anonymous. PA State Police: Intelligence Bulletins Were ‘Unsubstantiated,’ Work of ‘Amateurs’
Pennsylvania lawmakers scrutinized the tracking of activities by “environmental extremists” and activist groups in a hearing on Monday.
As early as January, the head of the Pennsylvania State Police’s intelligence unit warned the state’s Office of Homeland Security [1] that its intelligence bulletins — compiled for the state by an anti-terrorism contractor — contained inaccurate and useless information about threats to state infrastructure, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
“I likened it to reading the National Enquirer. Every so often they have something right, but most of the time it's unsubstantiated gossip,” George Bivens, director of the state police’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation, testified in a Pennsylvania Senate hearing Monday.

Sen. Coburn: Christine O'Donnell Will Combat D.C. Stupidity
Sen. Tom Coburn tells Newsmax that Delaware Republican Senate nominee Christine O’Donnell would “bring a lot to the table” to combat the “stupidity that goes on in Washington.”
The Oklahoma Republican, who considers himself a friend of President Barack Obama, also says Obama is a partisan president who is still on “the campaign trail,” but can use all the help he can get from Republicans in running the country.
Coburn believes no one can “reliably predict” if the GOP will take control of the House and Senate after the November elections. But he says it’s clear “the American people are now engaged. They’ve seen the waste. They’ve seen the stupidity. They’ve seen the lack of common sense coming out of Washington. They’re having to make hard choices themselves, but they’ve seen none of that happening in Washington.
“One of the reasons our economy is in trouble is that people don’t have much confidence in the future. So they’re looking for real leadership that will take on this nasty behemoth known as the federal government and start trimming it down.
“I think the elections are going to turn on who can best put forward what the American people really want. They’re afraid for the future and they want some grownups up here to start making the hard decisions, even though some of those hard decisions might have a small negative impact on them.”
Despite some early reluctance, Republicans are now fully supporting Christine O’Donnell’s run for the Senate in Delaware, says Coburn, who is backing O’Donnell and has offered to campaign for her.
“She’s not a career politician, and Washington is loaded with them,” he tells Newsmax.

O’Malley Aides Praise Each Other For Cover-Up…Then Go On Vacation
ANNAPOLIS – The Bob Ehrlich for Maryland campaign today released a second round of emails between Governor Martin O’Malley’s advisors that shed additional light on the O’Malley Administration’s strategy to cover up a July Jobs Report that repudiated O’Malley’s upbeat assessment of Maryland’s economy. The emails were obtained through Public Information Act requests.
“It’s bad enough that Martin O’Malley and his advisors have to make stuff up – now they actually have to cover stuff up,” said Ehrlich Communications Director Henry Fawell. “With 216,000 Marylanders currently standing in the unemployment line, the citizens of Maryland deserve to know government jobs reports have not been tampered with or suppressed by their governor’s advisors for campaign purposes. Clearly, that standard has been flouted under Martin O’Malley.”
Highlights of the newest emails include Governor O’Malley Cabinet Secretary Alex Sanchez congratulating his staff for suppressing the pessimistic jobs report and replacing it with an edited version that supported O’Malley’s campaign speeches. On the day the report is suppressed, Sanchez’s Communications Director notifies Martin O’Malley’s press secretary that he is going on, “an extraordinarily well-time vacation.” A complete list of the emails can be viewed by clicking here. Friday August 20, 2010, 9:12 PM: O’Malley’s DLLR Cabinet Secretary Alex Sanchez emails DLLR staff with the subject line, “many, many thanks – and aftermath.” Sanchez states he wants to thank staff for all their hard work and “professionalism” that “pulled us through a difficult situation.” He concludes that he is very pleased with the fact that he can count on them “no matter what the circumstances.” (See page: 18)
Friday August 20, 2010, 9:06 PM: DLLR Communications Director Bernie Kohn emails Martin O’Malley’s spokesman, Shaun Adamec, letting him know that Washington Post and Baltimore Sun reporters are inquiring about the censored report. He goes on to remark about what an “ugly” day it had been and thanks Shaun for his “guidance in helping limit the damage.” He concludes this email by stating “I will be on an, if I may say myself, extraordinarily well timed vacation next week.” (See page: 19)

Kratovil Continues Phony Negative Attacks While Ignoring His Own Record
SEVERNA PARK, Md. – Congressman Frank Kratovil yesterday continued his series of false, negative attacks on Andy Harris while ignoring his own vote for the job-killing, tax-hiking Cap and Trade Energy Tax.
In a letter to Kratovil last Friday, Andy Harris insisted Kratovil remove his misleading attack ad. In an evident reaction to the challenge, Kratovil amended his ad – only to include more incorrect information.
The study Kratovil sites in his ad was not done on the Fair Tax, but on a combination of both the Value Added Tax (VAT) and the Simplified Income Tax Plan.
“It amazes me Frank Kratovil can lie to Marylanders and then ask for their vote all within a 30 second ad,” said Bill Lattanzi, Campaign Manager for Andy Harris for Congress. “Voters cannot trust someone who is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars spreading phony claims about his opponent.”
Frank Kratovil must have also forgotten about his vote for the outrageous Cap and Trade Energy Tax. A vote that the Congressional Budget Office estimates would increase household costs by $1,600 per year (CBO Testimony to Congress, 2009). A vote that Obama said would “necessarily skyrocket” the price of electricity (“Coal in your stocking,” National Review, Nov. 3, 2008).
“Frank Kratovil got so caught up in fabricating lies about Andy Harris he forgot about his vote for Cap and Trade, a mere 15 months ago,” said Lattanzi. “Cap and Trade will devastate the Eastern Shore and raise energy prices regardless of location or income. Maryland can thank Frank Kratovil for voting for a tax that will hit every single American.”

Claim:“A Bush tax panel said families could pay $6,000 more a year.”
FACT:In an apparent refusal to study his own accusations, Kratovil missed an important fact in his research. The Bush Panel studied a combined system of the Value Added Tax (VAT) and the Simplified Income Tax Plan, not the Fair Tax. In the 272 page document, the term “Fair Tax” is not used once. 58 Days Since Salisbury Safe Streets Legislation Introduced Still No Council Work Session
Mayor James Ireton, Jr. reminds the public, today, that 58 days have passed since he introduced the Salisbury Safe Streets Legislative Package. The package was introduced to the public and given to City Council on Monday, August 2nd, 2010.
This means City Council has had 58 days to place this on a Work session agenda and Council President, Louise Smith, has yet to do so. Mayor Ireton urges the public, in the wake of the current wave of violence, to contact Mrs. Smith and demand that the legislative package get a hearing. The mayor has asked that the package have an up or down vote by Thanksgiving of this year.

On September 27, 2010 at approximately 8:41 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the area of Naylor Street and US Rt. 50 for the report of an assault with a firearm. Upon arrival the officers met with an adult male victim who advised that he had been injured during an attempted robbery on Records St. The victim advised that when he was at the two hundred (200) block of Records Street, waiting for a friend, he was approached by two (2) suspects, each in possession of a handgun.
Suspect # 1 approached the victim and demanded the victim’s money, while suspect # 2 stayed behind suspect # 1, close to the street. The victim grabbed suspect # 1 and struggled with the suspect resulting in suspect # 1 striking the victim in the head area with the handgun. While the victim was struggling with suspect # 1, suspect # 2 fired three shots, one of which struck the victim in a buttock. Both suspects then fled from the area. The victim was transported to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center for treatment which was determined to not be life threatening. This incident is under investigation.
There was no property taken from the victim and the suspects were described as:
Suspect # 1: Caucasian or black male with light complexion, under eighteen (18) years of age, short in height, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
Suspect # 2: Black male, taller than suspect # 1

On September 28, 2010 at approximately 12:55 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to a residence on the six hundred (600) block of Lake Street for the report of shots fired. Upon arrival the officers met with the resident who advised that shots had been fired at their residence resulting in a minor injury to an adult male. The victim had been seated in the den area of the residence and sustained a graze wound to his lower back. Salisbury Emergency Medical Service responded but the victim refused treatment. The SPD officers were able to observe that five (5) gun shots had struck the residence. The resident advised that the occupants of the residence were not aware that shots had been fired until the victim realized that he had been struck and alerted the other residents. There were no other injuries. This incident is under investigation.

The officers checked the residence and found that unknown suspect(s) had shot the residence two (2) times, both shots in the front area. It was later found that a residence close to this residence also sustained gunshot damage. There were no injuries and this incident is under investigation.

The officers checked the residence and found that the residence had been struck four (4) times. The residence sustained the damage to the front area. There were no injuries to any of the occupants and this incident is under investigation.

States Attorney Davis Ruark Asks For 35 New Officers In The City Of Salisbury
Having served as State’s Attorney for over twenty-three years and further having seen the evolving nature of crimes committed within the City of Salisbury and its immediate vicinity, I am hereby calling on the Mayor and City County, with the support of the State of Maryland and the United States Government to immediately fund a minimum of an additional thirty-five (35) sworn law enforcement officers for the City of Salisbury. There has been little growth in the number of sworn police officers over the past fifteen (15) years, even though the City has annexed land which has brought additional responsibilities upon its police department. The officers are responding from call to call on any given day and night in the City.
An additional thirty-five police officers would allow for more proactive approaches to crime within the City of Salisbury and would provide for additional resources to their Criminal Investigation Division to concentrate on unsolved crimes that require extensive investigation. With the numbers of reported crimes now occurring, neither the patrol officers nor the criminal investigators have adequate time or resources to devote to investigations before having to move on to other calls and reports.
In addition, to stem the turnover of sworn police officers I am calling on the Mayor and City Council to provide pay parity to other agencies operating in and around Wicomico County. It is imperative to keep the good, young officers here and to prevent them from being lured to other agencies for higher pay and a lesser work load.
I know that the burden upon the taxpayer may rise. However it is my belief that these measures are necessary to keep both our law enforcement officers as well as our citizenry safe while other measures are explored to decrease the nature and types of crimes that we are experiencing.

IRETON & COMEGYS WANT MORE SALISBURY TAXES AND FEES!
Even though he has not been on the scene in the Salisbury City Council’s meetings for several months, Mr. Comegys’ health concerns have not stopped him from doing the Democrat thing – trying to get more of our money into the public trough. As the head of the Maryland Municipal League he has issued a call to the mayors and CEO’s of its municipality members to push the Maryland Legislature for greater authority to impose additional taxes with another name – like, but in addition to the stormwater “fee” that Ireton wants and that new building inspection “fee” that he has requested.
And before you can say “tax cap” there’s a Resolution request from Ireton to the City Council for a plea to the Maryland General Assembly “to provide more diverse revenue raising authority to municipalities,” clever language to mask the purpose by avoiding the words “fees” and “taxes”.
You may recall that a few years back, Comegys and his City Council sidekick then, Mikey Dunn, wanted to impose a “food tax” that resulted on public outcry and was abandoned. Comegys can’t be trusted not to tax and fee us to the poorhouse with Ireton’s willing and eager assistance despite their differences on other matters. On “tax & spend” these two career government employees are simpatico.
They know – based on what happened when Barrie Tilghman got Louise Smith, Comegys and Shanie Shields to push through a property tax increase several years ago -- that another one would result in revolt, so they have turned to new and higher fees and special charges to squeeze every cent out of City residents, developers and property owners. Have you seen your water and sewer bill lately – if not be sure to sit down before doing so (it’s going up, again, this year).
Salisbury residents would be wise to ask the General Assembly candidates in the upcoming election to state whether they would vote to give the City authority “to raise own-source revenues to reduce the reliance . . . on the property tax to fund municipal government services.” Despite the innocent sound of that phrase, guess where and from whom those “own-source revenues” would come from.
And don’t say that you were not warned in advance by this blog!
