Hoping maybe you can help find another lost pet! Our cat got out in the early morning hours around Glenn Ave elementary and ran away because of the thunder. She is a house cat and our 2 1/2 year old son is wondering where she is. Hoping maybe one of your many readers can help find her.

Her name is bobby she is a black calico cat, with orange spot by her left eye and neck. She is very friendly and "talks" a lot. 856-649-5534

WHAT IS JACOB DAY’S “EXPERTISE”?

In his post about Rick Pollitt’s latest appointee to Wicomico County’s Planning Commission, G. A. Harrison claims that Mr. Day – now approved by the votes of the Democrat contingent on the County Council plus RINO John Cannon – brings highly pertinent “expertise” to the Commission. Having just read Mr. Day’s resume, I respectfully disagree.

He has several academic degrees in fields that are tangential to land use planning, including “urban design” and “environmental policy”, and now works for a group that advocates for no growth and development outside of municipalities such as Salisbury (where he resides). But beyond those miniscule “credentials,” it’s NADA. Pollitt’s portrayal of Mr. Day as highly qualified is pure hogwash.

Mr. Day’s “expertise” consists largely of academic training. His other experience also is largely of the academic type – reviewing and writing articles and reports and advising about zoning and land use policy. Based upon the institutions involved, it is almost certain that his basic view of land use planning is that it should effect state centrist policy rather than local desires and preferences. Thus, he probably accords little or no value to property rights and fairness. To be sure, he is smart enough not to reveal his basic view or agenda when questioned in public.

Apparently Mr. Day is a nice person. Testimonials about such things as creating a memorial garden are heartwarming, but that kind of activity is no basis for appointment to the Planning Commission, nor is the fact that he is a “from here.”

It is apparent that Rick Pollitt – a career government bureaucrat who once performed “planning” in Somerset County -- is using the resignation of a moderate member from the more rural part of Wicomico County to pack its Planning Commission with members who dwell in the “metro core” around Salisbury and can be counted upon to support taking away development rights in the rest of the County. Because the City of Salisbury also appoints members of the Commission, Mr. Pollitt should appoint residents who live elsewhere. In addition, there should be at least one large scale farmer on the Commission; currently, there is none.

And Pollitt’s self-serving defense of Jacob Day as the indispensable person because of his supposed qualifications only adds insult to our injury.

Randy Dotinga writes: If you're looking for a hook-up, a few drinks can suddenly make other people seem more attractive -- and receptive -- than they actually are, according to two new studies that help explain the "beer goggle" effect.

First, a suds-soaked fog diminishes a guy’s ability to detect facial symmetry, a crucial component of what we think of as human beauty. When this sense is dulled, an average-looking face may seem like it belongs to a hottie, suggests research on drunk college kids in the journal Alcohol.
To make matters even worse, another study shows liquor makes guys more likely to misinterpret a friendly female glance as a bold come-on.

"The average guy tends to perceive more women as being sexually interested after a few drinks and be more likely to make mistakes about what a woman feels," says study co-author Teresa Treat, an associate professor at the University of Iowa whose finding appears in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology.

White House Directive: Erect Signs At All Stimulus Projects

Federal contractors receiving money for projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)—the $862 billion economic stimulus law President Barack Obama signed in February 2009—have been encouraged and, in some cases, required by the administration to post signs that say their work is funded by that specific act.

Some congressional Republicans are calling the signs propaganda for the administration and questioning their cost.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development recommended one model sign that included these words: “Funded By: American Recovery and Reinvestment Act/ Barack Obama, President.”

The law itself does not require the signs. The program sprung from a March 2009 directive issued by the Office of Management and Budget in the Obama White House.

“Projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) will bear a newly-designed emblem,” said the OMB directive. “The emblem is a symbol of President Obama’s commitment to the American People to invest their tax dollars wisely to put Americans back to work.”

“All projects which are funded by the ARRA should display signage that features the Primary Emblem throughout the construction phase,” said the directive. “The signage should be displayed in a prominent location on site.

Obama administration officials have said the signs are designed to increase government transparency by showing people how recovery dollars are being spent.

“The idea that my constituents think anybody but them is paying for these public works projects is an insult to their intelligence,” Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.), told CNSNews.com.

Further, Republicans say that unlike other government signage that can be reused, these signs have a very short half-life since ARRA expires in 2011.

“It’s blatant propaganda on the part of the Obama administration to take credit for the spending of public dollars,” said Schock, who has investigated the matter as a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

New York opted not to post signs after estimating a large ARRA sign would cost between $6,000 and $8,300, while Georgia announced it would stop posting the signs because the average sign was costing $1,200, according to a report by the Republican staff of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Ohio has spent $1 million on ARRA signs and Illinois has spent $640,000, Schock said. ABC News reported in July that a stimulus funded project at Washington, D.C.’s Dulles Airport has a 10-foot-by-11-foot ARRA sign that cost $10,000. ABC also reported that Pennsylvania spent $157,000 on ARRA signs.

'I want to regain my First Amendment rights,' she tells Larry King

Dr. Laura Schlessinger says she's shutting down her 30-year-old syndicated radio program at the end of the year so she can get her "First Amendment rights" back.

Her announcement on "Larry King Live" comes just a week after she repeatedly used the N-word while taking a call on the air from a black woman who wanted to discuss her interracial marriage.

She told King, "My contract is up for my radio show at the end of the year and I've made the decision not to do radio anymore."

"The reason is I want to regain my First Amendment rights," she told King, according to E! Online. "I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry, some special interest group deciding this is the time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates, attack sponsors. I'm sort of done with that."

Despite Reaction, Irish Student IDF Volunteer Would Do it Again

Cliona Campbell, a 19 year old Irish student who volunteered to help in the Israeli Defense Force says that she returned home after two months in Israel to a hate campaign, organized by anti-Israel elements in Ireland who saw her story written up in a local newspaper.

A resident of Cork in Ireland, Campbell volunteered several months ago for a program coordinated by Sar-El, which sends volunteers to work on IDF bases or in nursing homes, helping out with routine activities such as maintenance, packing 'kitbags', working in the kitchen, gardening, etc. Participants also take tours of the country, and learn about Israeli and Jewish life.

Campbell, who is not Jewish, said she joined Sar-el because she was “captivated by the Jewish people - a nation which has endured hatred, persecution and genocide, and yet still retains an unyielding will to survive, unifying them in an unbreakable kinship.” In an article in the Cork Evening Echo which was reprinted on the Sar-el site, Campbell said she decided to volunteer for the IDF because she, “had watched the injustice during Operation Cast Lead, where after eight years of incessant rockets, Israel cried enough and was villainized for the deaths caused by terrorists who used their own people as human shields, hiding cowardly in densely populated civilian areas.”

During her two months in the IDF, Campbell said she made some wonderful friends, and came to a real appreciation of Israeli society. 'I gazed at the myriad of faces surrounding me.” she wrote. “Moroccans, Russians, Yemenites, Ethiopians- a cacophony of races and origins, all sporting the same khaki green uniform, all calling each other ‘achi’- ‘my brother'.”

But her sense of joy and wonder were not to last. Even before she returned home, Campbell told the website Irishcentral.com, she was receiving abusive e-mails, warning her to “keep her head down” after word spread about her article. “I came back after two months and wrote a piece on my experiences,” she told the site. “Now I am getting hate mail and being targeted.

She has been called a “terrorist,” she said, and some of her harassers say, “they don't even see me as Irish anymore.”

Ground Zero Mosque Controversy Grows, Democrats Plummet In Polls

With just 78 days before the midterm elections, Republicans have seized an all-time record lead in generic party preference — a clear signal that Democrats are running out of time to resolve the ground zero mosque controversy and get back on message if they hope to avoid a political train wreck in November.

Democratic pollster and Fox News commentator Douglas Schoen calls the latest polls "very bad" for Democrats.

"With these numbers, the House is almost certainly gone and the Senate is very much in play," Schoen tells Newsmax.

For Democrats, the timing of the polls could hardly be worse.

Reports are emerging from the White House that Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has been in damage-control mode, working the phones to stave off further Democratic defections over President Obama's on-again, off-again support for construction of a mosque and cultural center in lower Manhattan.

Late Monday, Majority Leader Harry Reid parted company with the president, saying the mosque should be built elsewhere. A flurry of swing-district New York Democrats also are siding with Reid, and urging that a new location be found. They include Reps. Mike Arcuri, Mike McMahon, Steve Israel, and Tim Bishop.

The division among Democrats, combined with the poll numbers, raises the prospect of a massive GOP landslide in November.

Gallup reported Tuesday that the GOP has seized the largest margin of advantage in the history of the firm's generic ballot: 50 percent to 43 percent. Pollsters use generic ballots to ferret out which party is favored by voters irrespective of specific candidates or individual races.

Gallup editor-in-chief Frank Newport confirmed to Newsmax that Tuesday's result is the largest GOP lead the organization has ever recorded in generic-ballot polling.

Obamanomics Is Why There Is No Recovery

How many more months must Americans endure near-double-digit unemployment, little or no new-job creation, economic stagnation, a topsy-turvy stock market, and sagging consumer confidence before Washington politicians concede the "summer of recovery" is mostly a mirage?

They've spent nearly $8 trillion since 2007, including nearly $2 trillion on economic stimulus programs and an equal amount for the Troubled Asset Relief Program and similar bailouts. They've effectively nationalized Fortune 500 corporations, taken over the health care sector, and set the regulatory stage for more bailouts and takeovers, but the needle is still stuck. Worse, recovery isn't likely for many months ahead because those same politicians are planning more of the same failing policies.

Consider that entrepreneurial small businesses are the job-creation machine of a free-enterprise economy. But these firms are about to get smacked with significant tax rate increases that will keep most of them struggling just to survive. President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will let the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 expire as scheduled Jan. 1, 2011. The current 33 percent tax rate on individuals will go to 36 percent, and the current 35 percent rate will increase to 39.5 percent. Those are individual rates, but the majority of small-business profits are taxed as income to individuals.

According to Internal Revenue Service data, 30 million tax returns reporting small-business income were filed in 2008, showing net business profits of $631 billion. Americans for Tax Reform pointed out Friday that "large chunk of this net profit -$457 billion - faced taxation in households making more than $200,000 per year. A majority of small business profits will face a tax rate hike under the Obama-Pelosi-Reid plan."

So, those millions of small-businesses will soon have even less money to invest in expanding existing product lines or services, as well as job-creating new ventures.

Are They Joking? Hillary As Defense Secretary??

There is growing speculation that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will replace Robert Gates at the Pentagon when he steps down sometime early next year.

“It would be a mistake to wait until January 2012 [to leave],” Gates told Foreign Policy magazine, explaining why he is targeting 2011 for his retirement. “This is not the kind of job you want to fill in the spring of an election year.”

Clinton has won praise for her performance at State, according The Hill, and forged a strong relationship with Gates, the only holdover from the Bush administration. Her many supporters argue she has the most credibility with the military of any Democrat and would be a logical choice to take Gates’s place at the Pentagon.

The appointment of Clinton to replace Gates would be historic. The former first lady and presidential candidate would be the first woman to serve as Defense secretary and only the second person – after George C. Marshall – to have served as both secretary of State and Defense, according to The Hill.

Still, the Hillary-for-Defense speculation drew a familiar retort from some Washington veterans: It must be August, when the congressional recess makes for a slow news cycle. They viewed the suggestion as a slightly less far-fetched version of the other fantasy that has been making the summer gossip rounds: that Obama will swap Clinton for Vice President Joe Biden on the 2012 ticket and send Biden to run the State Department.

Swimming Water Advisory Issued Near Dewey Beach

DEWEY BEACH, Del. - Swimmers are being asked to stay out of the water in an area just south of Dewey Beach.

A swimming water advisory has been issued for the beach at Tower Road Bay Side because higher-than-normal levels of bacteria have been found.

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control thinks the problem is likely caused by seagull droppings that have been flushed into the water.

More testing will be done and the department says the advisory will be lifted once water quality improves, but for now the advisory is scheduled to continue through Thursday.

Experts: Argue All You Want, Mosque Project On Firm Legal Ground

For all the anger [1], political strategizing [2] and stabs in the heart [3] that the plans to build a Muslim community center near ground zero may have brought about, land-use and zoning experts say opponents of the project have very little legal basis [4] on which to rest their argument.

The discussion draws in First Amendment arguments about the constitutional right to freely practice religion. But on a more basic level, the community center must adhere to zoning laws, as none other than Rush Limbaugh [5] has noted.
