TRAFFIC ALERT - Daytime Lane Restrictions For Eight Sussex County Roads

Milford -- The Department of Transportation announces that George & Lynch Inc. will be rehabilitating eight roadways throughout Sussex County. The project consists of hot-mix patching.

The following roads will have intermittent lane restrictions:

*Cedar Beach Road from Shockley Road to Mills Road
*Sylvan Acres Road from Cedar Creek Road to Route 1
*North Oak Grove Road from Route 20 to the Maryland state line
*Route 16 from North Old State Road to Ponder Road
*Woodpecker Road from Route 20 to the Maryland state line
*Trap Pond Road from Wooten Road to Route 24
*Pear Tree Road from Route 26 to Careys Camp Road
*Zion Church Road from Evans Road to Gum Road

The project will begin on Monday, June 8 and end on Friday, July 17, pending weather. The work schedule will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Motorists should drive with caution and slow down in work zones.

An Ambulance or a Fire Truck was just in an accident on Rt. 13 & Gordy Road. They were on their way to a shed fire and we've come to learn it was a property damage accident, no one was hurt.

In weather conditions like this, it's better to get there alive guys than it is to get there fast, especially over a shed fire. Glad to hear every one is OK.

Brandywine Hundred Man Arrested For Possessing Child Pornography

Location of Incident: 1228 Faun Road, Wilmington, New Castle County

Date and Time of Occurrence: June 3, 2009

Suspect(s): William J. Levering, 29.

On June 3, 2009, members of the Child Predator Task Force, detectives from State Police Troop 2 and uniformed troopers executed a search warrant at 1228 Faun Road, Wilmington, DE. The search warrant was as a result of an on-going investigation into the on-line distribution of child pornography videos and images. The search warrant was executed and two desktop computers, three laptop computers as well as cell phones, digital cameras and other digital evidence were seized.
Investigators located four people at the residence and all we were interviewed at Troop 1. Forensic previews resulted in the discovery of child pornography images on one of the laptop computers. A suspect was identified as a result of the investigation.

Based on information developed William J. Levering was arrested and charged with 28 counts of unlawfully using a computer to depict children engaged in prohibited sex acts. Levering was ordered held on $280,000.00 secured bail. He was turned over to the Department of Correction in default of bail.

Troopers are looking for Lisa K. Mumford, 44, of Felton. She was last seen at her home back on May 10, 2009. Family members and troopers are concerned for her wellbeing since she had not been heard or seen for almost a month.

City Of Salisbury Shooting This Morning THE ORIGINAL POST

A home invader broke into a home on the 700 Block of Baker Street in Salisbury at 4:00 AM this morning. The residents awoke to a gunman standing over top of them while in bed demanding money and any other items they had.

He had already been in one bedroom and tried to rob one of the other room mates upstairs. He said if they didn't give up money he would shoot the baby. The following is the balance of what happened after the gunman shot the Father of the Baby.

SPD has a suspect that Allie ID’d along with her roommates and maybe some others. They are waiting to release the photo to the media until John Duvall wakes up from surgery to ID the mug shot. This is obviously not the first go ‘round for the shooter.

After about 4+ hours of surgery, the team replaced about 2 inches of artery and got the blood flowing again to the arm, but the tendons and other tissue blown apart will have to wait for subsequent surgeries to reconnect all the stuff. The doctor said that he would probably have a “useful” hand again in 2-3 years down the road.

Allie said the shooter was trying to shoot the baby but John lunged into it getting hit in the shoulder of the arm that was holding the infant(3 months). The shooter kept pulling the trigger clicking the gun at all three of them, but the gun was either empty or misfiring. He took a laptop and a cellphone and kept demanding money, drugs, cellphones, “whatever you got”. He then left from the upstairs bedroom and downstairs. After waiting for him to leave, Allie roused 2 roomies and got them to call 911.

They just woke up around 5 this morning to the home invader standing over them at the bed when he started his demands. He had already been to another bedroom and tried to rob the first roomer.

Man Shot in Salisbury Home Invasion-Robbery

SALISBURY, Md.- Police are looking for a suspect wanted for shooting a man in the chest during a Wednesday morning home invasion-robbery in Salisbury.

Salisbury police say that at around 4:46 a.m. officers responded to a on the (700 block of Baker Street for the report of a home invasion-robbery. Upon arrival the officers observed that a victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper left chest. The victim, identified as 21-year-old Jonathan Michael Duvall of Salisbury, was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he remains in stable condition.

Witnesses told Salisbury police detectives that a lone suspect had entered the rear of the home and confronted the victim. The suspect pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot that struck the victim. The suspect then took several items from the home and ran out of the home.

Police described the suspect as a black male, 20-25 years of age, 6-foot-1, thin build, wearing a black pullover style hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black shoes.

Salisbury Shooting Post Removed

Dear Readers:

This afternoon I put up a post, (more like a Letter to the Editor) about a shooting in the City of Salisbury early this morning.

As you can see above, Chiefy Webster called me in reference to this Post and demanded I remove it. I asked him to explain to me why he wanted it removed and he stated it doesn't matter why, just remove the Post. I responded with, you'll have to do better than that Al. He said I'm impeding on an investigation and jeopordizing the life of one of his Officers. That's when the RED FLAG went up.

There was absolutely NO MENTION of an Officer in the Post, therefore there was no way I was doing anything wrong. The fact that the Father sent me a letter telling me what had happened was not impeding with ANY investigation and again, IMHO, the minute the word hit the street it became NEWS!

I politely asked Al to talk nice and I'd be willing to work with him all day long. However, I need to know why you're demanding I pull the Post when there's no mention of an Officer's name. He stated he didn't have to tell me anything other than to take it down.

Now, I just want to make this VERY clear to everyone. I removed the Post moments ago but I only did so after a conversation with States Attorney Davis Ruark. Even after I explained I had done nothing wrong, I asked him to contact Al and ask him to return his call once again so we can talk on an even level where I wasn't being treated like a servant to his Master.

You see Folks, what Chief Webster just can't get into his head is the fact that I have the right to my freedom of speech. I do NOT have to call Chief Webster every time I write a story and or produce a Letter to the Editor. If he wants to explain to me WHY he'd like it removed, again, I'd be happy to work with him.

So for now I've removed the Post at the request of Davis Ruark, NOT Chief Webster. I can assure you, there was absolutely NOTHING, no names, NOTHING in reference to ANY Police Officer, I wouldn't do something like that. IF Chief Webster does not return the call, the Post is going back up.

I want to make something very clear to everyone reading this Post, including Chief Webster. There is absolutely NO REASON the two of us cannot work together. I think it's VERY clear, I'm NOT going anywhere. If Webster would like to create a working relationship where we can get along, even after he sued me, I'm all about it. I want to do the very best I can to work with the SPD and especially the Officers within.

If Chief Webster can't swallow just a little bit of pride, (LIKE I'M DOING RIGHT NOW) then we're just going to have to continue going head to head for what I feel is a childish and stupid power struggle that isn't necessary.

The Post is removed and with any hope we can work TOGETHER to make things better for all. The ball is now in his court.

INCIDENT: Armed Robbery DATE: 06-02-2009 LOCATION: Countryside Market, 27000 block of Nanticoke Road, Salisbury, Maryland NARRATIVE: On June 2, 2009 at approximately 2200 hours, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and the Wicomico Bureau of Investigations responded to the Countryside Market on Nanticoke Road for a reported armed robbery. Two armed suspects entered the Countryside Market and demanded the clerk to open the cash register. Both suspects were able to obtain an undetermined amount of US currency during the robbery. The store clerk was unharmed.

Ethics Board Walks Away With Answers

The Ethics Board walks out of today's meeting with an answer but refuses to reveal it to anyone.



As I'm sure GA Harrison will put up a Post some time later today in reference to today's Ethics Board Meeting, it seemed very clear to me the charges were flat out frivolous. The Fat Man wasn't even man enough to show up for the meeting. Then again, ever since Salisbury News started asking people to take pictures of the Fat Man at ANY meeting he attends and send those photos off to the Disability Office, he has yet to surface to any meeting, hence his hiding his ugly mug behind a XXXXL mask.



Nevertheless, the meeting was a joke. Paul Wilber should be ashamed of himself for ever allowing it to move forward. I'm confident the Board will deliver a vote of finding Terry Cohen clean of any wrong doing. We'll have more details later......

Home Invasion

Location of Incident: Benson Road, Lincoln, Sussex County

Date and Time of Occurrence: Wednesday June 3, 2009 between 0430 hours and 0530 hours

Suspect(s): Three black male suspects dressed in dark clothing. Two of the males were described as 5’06” to 5’08” in height and the third male was describe as being over 6’ tall.

Resume:

Delaware State Police are investigating a home invasion that occurred in Lincoln, Sussex County.

At approximately 0430 this morning a 36 year-old male resident was getting ready for work when he heard knocking and shouting outside the front door of his home. When the victim went to investigate, three suspects all dressed in black, entered the home brandishing weapons. The trio forced the 36 year-old and his cousin, who is 43, to the ground. The two were handcuffed and assaulted by one of the suspects. A 21 year-old female, who is the girlfriend of the younger victim, was forced to sit in a chair with her 1 year-old baby while they ransacked the home. Prior to the suspects leaving they tied the female’s hands behind her back.

The female was able to free a hand a call a neighbor who found the victims in the home.

The suspects fled with an unknown amount of currency.

The two male victims were treated by Sussex County Paramedics for contusions but refused to go to the hospital. The baby and the female victim, who was pregnant, were not injured.

WCBOE Policy On Children With Head Lice

It was to my dismay when I received a phone call to pick my child up from school due to head lice. I cringed wondering how this could happen. I proceeded to pick my child up and went through hours of regimented shampooing and de-lousing of child and home that very day, all day. I decided to call the school nurse to find out when to bring my child back to school and that is when I found out exactly how this could happen! I was told by the nurse that it is WCBOE policy that as long as a child did not have any live lice they could come back to school. I asked what does that mean and to my astonishment she told me as long as no live lice are present the child would be allowed back in school even with “NITS STILL PRESENT IN THEIR HAIR”. Well hello but nits are eggs and lice can and will hatch and re-infest. I just wanted to inform all of the parents that went through this hell how and why it happened.

OCPD MOURNS THE LOSS OF RETIRED POLICE SGT

The Ocean City Police Department is mourning the loss of a retired police sergeant, Ronald Haslam.

Sergeant Haslam was a dedicated member of the Ocean City Police Department for 28 years and was respected by his co-workers and his community.

His enthusiasm for law enforcement lead him to serve in all four divisions with in the Ocean City Police Department, including the Patro, Services, Administrative and Criminal Investigation Divisions. He led the department’s mounted patrol unit and was known throughout the community for his professionalism, kindness and courtesy.

Sergeant Haslam’s many accomplishments included his nomination for “Investigator of the Year” in 1988. In addition, he was the recipient of a Town of Ocean City proclamation by former Ocean City Mayor Roland Powell for his heroic efforts at a building fire. Throughout his career, Sergeant Haslam received three Unit Citations for his work on a homicide investigation, leadership of his shift in 1988 and outstanding work in the Narcotics Services Section.

Perhaps the most rewarding part of his career was the numerous letters of commendation that he received from the public regarding his assistance, expertise, kindness and dedication.

Sgt Haslam will be remembered for his devotion to public safety and his service to the country while serving in the United States Air Force during Vietnam War. The respect and admiration for Sergeant Haslam is not now, nor ever will be, forgotten by the Ocean City Police

Department and by many citizens, employees and visitors of the Town of Ocean City.

Two Ocean City Men Arrested On CDS Distribution Charges

On Saturday, May 30, 2009 at approximately 6:02 p.m., the Ocean City Police
Department’s Narcotics Unit concluded a two month Controlled Dangerous
Substance (CDS) Distribution investigation with the arrest of Mark Steven Erbe, 50, and Christopher Lee Fraites, 49, both from Ocean City, MD.

On two separate occasions an undercover Ocean City narcotics detective was able
to purchase powder cocaine from Erbe. Preliminary field tests conducted by
investigators indicated the suspected cocaine was a fake substance portrayed to be
powder cocaine. Approximately 6 grams of a counterfeit substance portrayed to be
cocaine was seized during the investigation.

Erbe was charged with two counts of distributing a counterfeit controlled dangerous
substance and possession of a non-controlled substance reasonably believed to be a
controlled dangerous substance. Erbe was seen by and Ocean City District Court
Commissioner and held on a $50,000 bond.

Christopher Lee Fraites was charged with conspiracy to distribute a counterfeit
controlled dangerous substance and possession of a non-controlled substance
reasonably believed to be a controlled dangerous substance. Fraites was also seen
by an Ocean City District Court Commissioner and held on a $25,000 bond.
Both Erbe and Fraites have been transferred to the Worcester County Jail.

Report any suspicious persons immediately to the police. If possible, use a
cellular phone to call 911 while maintaining visual observation of the
subject(s).
