I am sure you have seen the nonsense about deli at pecan square..... they said they paid extra to help the community... hahaha I personally just got off the phone with Holt themselves. A case of 6 gallons of bleach (the only way Holt sells them) is $16.80 so we are talking $2.80 a gallon and they are selling for $11.99!!

I saw the woman from there on TV doing her song and dance and pleading their case. We did not buy it!!! It is price gouging anyway you want to slice it. They are in it for themselves and screw y'all who keep them afloat all year long, but NO MORE!
Bought scrapple, eggs, bread, toilet paper from there. Didn't buy the hamburger because I don't have anywhere to keep a 10 pound roll. Lunch meat and cheese is same price as anywhere else. Scrapple was a whopping 1 penny higher than food lion (if you can get it there still.) Love this business and the people. If you don't like it there then have fun getting your stuff elsewhere, but these people help local non-profit places also and have donated probably thousands of dollars of money and food to places for the elderly and the kids. They are good people and are doing a hell of a lot more for the community than probably 99% of you bashing them on here are doing. Don't have to deal with germy shopping carts and registers here either. It is safer and the prices aren't bad. So those of you who are bitching over the price are trying to find a way to get something for nothing, right? Stealing basically, wanting something for less than the value. If you want warehouse prices then go to Sysco or Holt and get it your damn self. Hope you have room to store it.

I learned about supply and demand in high school. Right now there is a high demand on many things and the cost is a little bit more than we were paying before. I understand they are a business like anyone else and yes they need to make money to support their family.

The definition of what you call gouging on bleach is a weak argument. I pay $3.29 a gallon for bleach, at walmart, and it is more expensive, because it has the highest content of chlorine.
Using this logic, a Holiday Inn hotel room in Ocean City in August at $450 per day, or $20 for a tub of boardwalk fries, or $20 a day for beach parking, might that be a more reasonable fit to "gouging"?
Saw the earlier posting about this business and it didn't make much sense; neither does this one. I've eaten there on a few occasions and have no complaints but it's not nearby so my patronage is infrequent.
If I don't like the price, quantity or quality of something I buy elsewhere or don't return. What in the world made the first poster or this one decide "Hey, I want to buy some bleach. Guess I'll trot down to the deli. No sense going to the grocery store a few steps away"?
The grocery may have been temporarily wiped out by the hoarders or just those bumping up their cleaning. Common knowledge, and pretty clear they'd get restocked.
In the meantime, the deli was suddenly ordered to cease its table service which obviously was the bulk of its revenue. Have no idea whether the owner decided cleaning supplies could be a good menu offering, or if a customer asked about the possibility of buying a gallon thus prompting a willingness to sell the bleach.
In any event, the owner has to order, pay for, unload and stock the item. They also run the risk of exhausting their supply of an item they need to have and use daily to keep the food operation going. We can disagree about what the mark-up should be but that is the owner's prerogative.
The first post about this business also referred to the price of 2 1/2 dozen eggs. I stopped at the grocery in Ocean Pines about 7 pm last Sunday. Some products were sold out but the store had plenty of stock of most items. They had a few eggs left but had a note posted in the cooler window advising that suppliers were raising prices. Hope the darn chickens can exert a bit more effort and get things back to normal!

They contacted WMDT to defend themselves, and to flip the script on being called out for price gouging, to just trying to pay their employee's and keeping the door open. WMDT decided to do it's first investigative journalism in years and asked to see the receipts for Pecan's purchases to prove they are not gouging their prices. They said no.
Yes, they are price gouging. It's that simple. They are selling unprepared food at prepared and cooked prices. That is how they fumbled to explain it. That is not a legitimate excuse.
Love how in the WMDT news story the lady touted how their costs went up and just a poor mom and pop trying to make a living; yet, she refused to even show the 47 reporter the invoice showing their supposed increased cost!
They have great quality meats, but they suck at execution of making a good sub. The onions are huge chunks of spanish onions, no seasoning, the oil/vinegar are all wrong. And their kitchen just seems sketchy.
I wish we had more decent places to get a sub besides Trax, especially on the north side of Salisbury. Hiat's is beyond ridiculously slow, their counter help has no business working in a busy environment, I could run circles around them.
It's ashame Primo closed, I wish they had moved to the north end (if we had to have a chain vs. local) vs. the joke that is Jimmy Johns (which quickly closed).
We've bought several things there and have not found their prices to be out of line. I got the burger for the same price as Food Lion and Acme were advertising. I don't understand all the complaints. No one is forcing people to shop there. Those who want to and appreciate what they are trying to do can, those who don't like it -- don't, but you don't have to bash them. Some people just complain to have something to complain about. These are the people that are NEVER satisfied.
