Salisbury Folk Festival An Obvious Flop, AGAIN (9-15-19)
These images taken yesterday at 3 PM clearly prove, (once again) that no one is really interested in this ridiculous Folk Festival in Salisbury. I cracked up this morning watching WBOC showing footage of the event claiming large crowds were flocking to the event, yet every video image showed next to no one there. Power of suggestion???

Brainwashing amaeicans since the invention of radio
Looks like a Joe Biden Campaign rally!
I have to say that the tents were packed during shows and the food lines were long. It didn't look like alot of people during events and the setup kinda sucked, but there was a decent crowd
Don't know about attendance but there sure were a lot of people riding up and down Rt.13 looking.
Downtown isn’t the best location for this festival with all the roads blocked I couldn’t get to the emergency easily
They'll blame the weather.
Much as it kills me to say it, I walked the site. Definitely the biggest crowds I’ve seen outside the horrible crowds at the inlet. Don’t think you’re right on this one, but I hate crowds so I’ll never go back. I don’t see the big crowds as a good thing.
Do we have any festival parking lot/shuttle pictures at the civic center? To me that would give a good idea how many attended.
Sure looks like the 100,000 predicted-uh no.
September 8, 2019 at 9:23 AM
Pictures don't lie.
Does this stage look packed?
You were at ONE tent.
One tent may have been "packed"
Obviously this one was not.
I was there last night.
ONE tent was packed.
Amphitheater had NO Band
Another tent had NO band
Community stage had very few people
PRMC stage had some people
Perdue stage was "packed" because it was a hip hop band with some DJ. Not sure how that equates to "folk"
There were very few buying food.
One merchant said he has no sales.
Get over yourself. The whole thing is an expensive joke on the taxpayer.
Salisbury gets folked again!
Salisbury gets folked again!
September 8, 2019 at 9:23 AM - propaganda much?
Lets breakdown your bs.
Tents were pack but it didn't look like a lot of people during event? huh? But it was a decent crowd?
It was packed but it wasn't?
Say what?
These pics are taken from the hospital. All the action was near rt 50
The event is several blocks long and was packed all evening. My kids enjoyed the food and music. There is something for everyone and it was packed all night
The food lines were long because they did not allow local food vendors except 1. Support local...think not. Where was Phat Boyz, Sammy Ennis and others? This is real food for thought without a line
Certainly not enough people to justify the millions of dollars wasted on this party for Jake Day and his friends.
WBOC are typical of modern local media outlets - they sell advertising time.
The "news" is always top down, coming from management who gets it from "trusted sources".
The mind control is an automatic part of media everywhere.
So WBOC wants to help the customer be successful by advertising the event as if it were news.
Again, an agenda is being promulgated through the pretense of news.
There was definitely a huge crowd. These pics only show one small part. It was packed and I was there for a very long time.
I was there all day Saturday and the place was packed! It was a fantastic day.
I was in the area and all the parking lots were full there were people everywhere. I don’t think it was a flop at all.
According to my scientific estimate there were about 700,000 people there. If the mayor is going to lie about how many people show up why not make it a big lie!!
I’m surprised he would do a large event like this during CLIMATE CRISIS. SHOCKING.
Jake spent, what, 1/2 a million on an amphitheater and ...
Friday had no shows
Saturday the last show there was 7pm.
Great waste of taxpayer dollars.
11:24- If it is a scientific estimate, you need to show your work, but you can't because you're full of it!
@11:22 exactly where were you? I took my mother by to see just what the big deal was and it was pretty enimic at best and the crowd did see rummaging around I wouldn't subject my 80 year old mother to. I saw first hand where the term ghetto fest derived from
@10:30 I was over by the perdue farms tent and route 50 and it wasn't packed
it is pretty comical what people consider "packed".
I am sure some of this was a learned behavior on how jake and his crew do math.
Thanks for the info Joe.
@1253 think thats sarcasm
whats an enimic?
Millions of dollar spent? Not even close to one million.
Libs contributing to Global warming lol.
11:24- 4 anonymous positive comments within 5 minutes. Who wants to bet this is 1 person with a vested interest in bullshitting us about the truth. Shame on you. If you can blatantly lie to thousands of people, you are a sociopath, and you suck. There is no way 700000 people have shown up!
Based on these pictures and the ones on WBOC looks more like maybe and that is stretching it a hundred total. The parking lots I saw all vehicles had mMD tags except one had Texas Tags, that was the only out of state tag did not even see any Del tags. There was a lot of traffic on 13 around there but seemed like everyone was just rubber necking looking, no turns in to park. I live 2 blocks from the site and that was all we saw and we were back & forth up & down 13 all day with errands.
Salisbury is filled w worthless idiots. What do you expect?
I attended the festival all day yesterday and here is my take: Attendance was good, there were a lot of people there. Jake Day will still certainly exaggerate the number, but it is false to say it was a total flop. There needs to be better signs and navigation for people who don’t know the downtown area well. Finally, it is very obvious that most of the attendees were locals. Lots of old people and bumpkins who have no idea how to walk or move in a crowd. Clueless idiots in the way of everything, blocking cart paths and sidewalks. Very annoying. Overall it was a good event and I’m glad SALISBURY hosts it. But I would like to see a full accounting of what the city has spent.
Bike paths on Northwood Dr. are a big joke. I have yet to see a bike on Northwood dr or Rt 50 by the Post Office. Waste, waste, waste. so sad
It was free to those that attended, so why wouldn't it be busy . Place a five or ten dollar cover on it and you would have less than a tenth of the people show up. Sadly the taxpayers pay the bills, if the event generates that much maybe some of our streets can be repaired.
2:20, You are full of crap.
BS I bet they spent a million just to insure the event
Sorry@2:09 should have known there would be 1 grammar stickler. I didn't do a spell check. I bet if you sound it out though you can figure out I meant anemic.
The Festival was the biggest so far, loads of people, and packed crowds! I and the kids had to wait hours in line to even get in. The tests were packed full and people from all over came. We saw cars from as far away as N. Dakota and California. This really put Salisbury on the map.
If you believe this line of crap, I also have the tittle to the Bay bridge and it is for sale at the low price of one million dollars.
All I can say is there were people there, packed absolutely not. Day might have gotten a third of what he'll claim and what was expected. I have to agree with @12:54 the crowds I did see were not exactly what I would have subjected an 80 year old person to.

There were no traffic issues whatsoever on route 13 or 50 and the parking lots were empty. Heck all the parking across from the hospital and EVO were only half full at best and that would be the best parking available
My question to ALL of the readers and citizens of Salisbury/wicomico county are you ready for what's on the horizon for Jake day and downtown Salisbury? Jake Day has spent millions redoing Salisbury downtown to host these long weekend progressive social functions what are you going to do/say when Salisbury is host to LGBT transgender freak-for-all? HHHHAA Jake Day has lied and stolen your tax money to fulfill his pathetic desire to be accepted all the while making several in his circle millionaires
They meant anemic, even I could derive that.
I went around 1pm on Saturday and we all left around 9pm or so. It wasn't bad early, but after like 4pm it got really busy. There were a lot of people, it was a really awesome event, and most of the music was really good.
Liberal SCUM IN ONE PLACE.
Where are all the people? I rode by there yesterday and today and didn't see anyone there??
The majority of the people there are "volunteers" and city employees.

You can blame that on Jake Day, Barb Duncan, John Tull, Darrin Scott and Eric Cramer.

You picked up on that as well. Thank you!!
I was there all 3 day with wife and friends. Friday night was a good crowd. Parade wasn’t good but probably 8,000 people. Saturday was there from 2-10:30 and the place was booming, tents were full and people everywhere- had to wait 10 min for a parking space to open up in garage. The Bill Kirchen concert had @ 3,000 people at the PRMC stage and the place was rocking. Very good time had by all. My estimate for Saturday is 18-20,000
Sunday there was plenty of parking in garage at noon level 3&4 were empty. We left @ 4 and garage was half empty. Still decent crowds with @ 1,000 at the amphitheater for Darryl Davis and @ 2,000 for Eddie Cotton. I am going to guess 6-7,500 in attendance.
I am not a fan of our Mayor (road changes, bike paths and a circle where one is not needed) he is an idiot, and I assume this event will lose a lot of $ but it was fun and well run.
The pictures you showed were behind 1 stage during a gospel act and the food areas are slow during performances. Not indicative of the crowds. All and all we heard some coin music, learned some stuff, spent $ at Market St, Brick Room and Roadie Joes. We will go again next year
It was a well attended event but not over 50,000 people. There was like 15-20,000 all weekend. You are correct about the amphitheater. It was terribly scheduled. The other 3 tents were filled and people everywhere. Great compliments to to musicians. I do think the food at the stages should compliment the music. Too much BBQ, Gyros though. 1 is enough. The Mac and Cheese Place was awesome and the wok station was great also. Where was Cajun/Creole for Zydeco music? Indian food for Indian music? Mexican tacos? The food can improve but from what I hear they charge to much for the locals to do it. $1400 a spot is a lot. When Salisbury gets it I hope they take the prices down so local foods can be there with stages corresponding with the food.
There was 1 side by market street that was lined up with tents but nothing there. Don’t know what that was for. There were also tons of cops, fire police, and medics for the safest city on the shore!!!!

This was a 3 day event and if Saturday happened to be a decent turnout it is because we have all been cooped up inside all week because of rain and wind from Hurricane Dorian and more than likely these people were itching to get outside. I too wanted to get outside so out of curiosity I rode by this event all day Saturday and there were more people than I expected but still not enough to call it a success so guess what Bozo, 1 out of 3 days is still a FLOP!!
My son and his wife with 2 children reluctant to go to the festival downtown thought it be something to do with the kids. They went to get some food from a foriegn vendor. No prices of the food and no receipt for their purchase. 2 fahitas,1corn dog and 2 bottles of Pure Leaf tea. Total came to $53.00. My son said WHAT??. He oaid because people waiting and not to start a argument. I would have told that foreigner to stick those items somewhere. I guess he has to make up for lost business. By the way I'm not a prejudice person but will not be taken advantage of by crooks. Thanks Jerk Day for having crooks just like you screw Salisburians.

BULL$HIT!!! I rode by there all day long and at 4 pm it had a small crowd and I mean a small crowd. I also saw FB streaming and again there were small crowds. The only reason there were that many people there is because it was FREE!! I saw people dodging the Bucket Brigades who were begging for $10. It was a pathetic event and Jake Day needs to put his head down in shame.

So what has Caroline O'Hare been doing the past year and a half? She has proven that she is a complete failure, like her husband, and should have never been hired for the job.
If you remember correctly she was nothing but an office secretary at Wicomico Day school and again Jake Day hired one of his Progressive buddies.
Sadly the voters of this city don't know what the Hell is going on and will still support this idiot and vote for him.
I wonder if Michele Gregory, Seamus Benn, Jared Schablein, Jake Burdett, James Yamakawa, Fake Pastor John Wright, Ron Pagano, Dan O'Hare, Alex Scott, Mike Hitch, Jackie Welfonder, Amber Green, Molly, Judy Davis, Josh Hastings, Wes Davis and other Socialist friends of Jake's will be out there begging for money and wearing their "Black Lives Matters" t-shirts. Did anyone see any of these Misfits out there begging for Jake's Foke Festival?
Were there any country bands there playing country music?
What about Randy Lee Ashcraft? Did they get him to perform? You know, keep it local!
It was packed from around 3PM to 10PM last night.
If you think it wasn't packed, you wern't there.
there is no provision for the handicapped.
Listen, I am not JD fan, hell I do not even live in the city, and I do not lie. We were there Saturday from 1245-330. It was crowded in some areas, other not so much. A ton of food vendors from out side our area, but all pleasant and lines every where for food. The music, while not my cup of tea, was certainly jovial and people seemed to be enjoying it. It was a nice time, not horrible like some have speculated.
I do believe the logistics of the whole thing is wonky, way to spread out. I think they could lose a stage and still have enough time for everyone to perform.
I do not understand the lack of local food vendors, or even crazy drink or app specials from the local resturant. I was also surprised by the lack of local artisans. Does it cost a fortune for a spot? Are civic groups not allowed to have a spot, other than selling beer? I would love to see a boy scout troop sell lemonade? I local club selling baked goods, jeez anything local! How about a school demonstrating something?!? Lots of room for everyone, but alas, with the exception of a handful of people, everyone was from out of our area.
"Turn out was over 200k" Per Day......lol
Bottom line...2nd attempt, still poor planning, attendance much lower than expected, the eateries and stores did NOT get the business they expected for the 2nd year, still a waste of tax dollars and finally MUST HAVE a COMPLETE Independent Audit to get to the Truth.
Listened to it on the public radio- didn't bother going downtown.
bs i work on 13 and is was long slow traffic till about 6
The place was busy...Saturday and today. Why can’t some of you people be happy with a successful result?
Not even. They may have been insured for a million, but it didn't cost anything close to that. A few thousand will cover a three day ground event. The city's insurance policy may have riders that make it pretty cheap.
Show me.
Why not ask the local vendors what they thought of the event:
Ugly Pie
Rodie Joes
Kuhns'
Angelos ice cream
Marabellas
Post their responses.
Just like Trump people complain about everything he does and does not do because they do not like him
I see a lot of this same attitudes here about the Mayor.
Because 644, the mayor lied to everyone claiming it would draw in over 300K ppl and nothing could be further from the truth. You just don’t get it, do you? Bask in your ignorance if you must.
Please. Salisbury in general doesn’t really accommodate handicapped people. You’re expecting way too much.
Ah but she supposed worked at MTV or so she said. Thought she was some big time producer or something. What a load of crap.
$53?!!!! Ummm that’s a bit hard to believe. Sure you are pulling our chains, 534?
If JD claimed there were 65k that attended last year then this year must have been 500k easy.
Wait I thought we were supposed to be afraid of the cops? Now you’re saying you felt safe because of them, 526pm? How times have changed once again.
Also Jake, 20K ppl is a far cry from the 300K you promised. What gives? Mosquitoes 🦟 chase all your patrons away. Water. Humidity. A great recipe for Nile Virus central.
Oh now they’re saying 700K? That’s too f-ing hilarious.
Isn’t that like any other city event nowadays?
Did they even insure event? Something tells me they didn’t even think about that? Jake doesn’t think 2 inches ahead of his nose.
It’s wasn’t free to attend. Every resident of Salisbury and probably Wicomico paid for it! That’s what they do with your taxes instead of cleaning up the city and put more beat cops on the streets at night. They frivolously waste your taxes and you sit there like dipshits thinking, “Oh man, this is so rad, we get a free concert.” Listen buddy, there ain’t no such thing as free. Remember that the next time you run over a pothole in Da’Bury. Your new $300 tire was your admission fee. 🙄
In case you missed it 1240p, whole soirée was nothing but a waste of taxpayer money.
Cute. There’s no parking in downtown that can hold over 100 cars. Please. Even if everyone parking area was full, you still couldn’t fit a crowd anything close to 20K ppl. Use your brain 1122.
Civic center lot was over half full Sunday afternoon. The festival was pretty busy, I just don’t know if it made sense cost wise for the city and tax payers. Vendors and downtown businesses had a good weekend I’m sure, just don’t know how much revenue in rooms etc generates dollars
Looks like the city did one thing right. With the crowd size everyone had their own portapotty. Nice! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Staffing by police and city employees. Costs for clean up, stage set up, sound guys, etc...... easily a million
I ink you're wrong on this one, it was packed wall to wall.... Very successful year.. Good for the local economy.
I went on Saturday. Some really great talent. Jerry Douglas was awesome with lots of people. There were crowds and it was nice to see. My biggest complaint is walking around, no beautification of the downtown or riverwalk. It looked awful. There should have been plants and pots full of color. Look at other towns, their streets are gorgeous. I was glad to support this event, but they should entrances with counters so we all know how many people actually attended!
700,000 ants maybe but definitely not people.
September 8, 2019 at 5:34 PM
Yes, I didnt buy food because there were no prices. Screw that. And no local vendors.
If you google it Jake said it would be local this and local that.
It isn't and wasn't.
I asked one of the merchants how he was doing and he said no sales, but at least he got his name out there. Thats a polite way of saying he wasted a ton on money on a hotel, etc and got no return on his investment.
Think of all those fossil fuels burning to keep stage lighting on and those 700K cars. Is Salisbury really a green city?
It was definitely a FLOP just like Fake Jake and is Administration, the band of misfit Homos.

OH BULLCRAP!! I intentionally rode by there and took pictures to send Joe and there were no people there like you are describing. Empty tents empty seats, empty sidewalks, empty stages. You are friggin nuts to get on here and defend Jake Day and the biggest flop in Salisbury history.
Woodstock wannabees Hahahahaha
No there were several folks there in wheel chairs and I saw over 10 people on carts
My family enjoyed the event, but noted that the food was horrible. They took some photos and it wasn’t packed, but better than last year. It also felt safer this year. All that taken into account, I doubt that local vendors are better off because of it and it seems to be an outrageous use of taxpayer money.
Sad you have negative comments when some one is trying to make something happen in Salisbury. Not everything Jake does I agree with. One being some locals should of performed. But for sure he is trying his best to turn Salisbury around. Not many people stepped up and done some in the 30 years I have been here. Look at them mall. Can somebody fix that???
The other 28 vendors had their pricing listed. Next time buy American
I did see a couple getting "Busy" in one of the empty tents. Too bad it was a same sex couple, men doing that make me sick. I guess it was what the mayor wanted though.
Karen Dunn was on Facebook saying there were 100,000 people there. I was there from 2-430 Saturday and maybe total, from end to end there were 2500 people there. Mostly really old people there
Ok, so, I believe last years numbers were made up and it failed, no question. All three days did well this year and Saturday was extraordinarily busy. Food vendors were real long lines all day, all the ice cream places were running out of product, it did real well.
It really was pleasant.
I’m not a political person, so I don’t know the economics, if it’s responsible or any of that stuff. It may be that even busy it’s not worthwhile, but I don’t think you can honestly argue it wasn’t busy. Firefly busy? No. But easily half that, and good family entertainment.
Food options could be better.
How about the patchwork fixes for main Street that will be torn up again next week just like they were last year, the amphitheater, the metal signs there that will be so rusted in another year you won't be able to see what's carved into them, the $95k on a vinyl wrap for the parking garage, the pay for Laura Kordzikowski, Jamie Heater, Dave Ryan and the entire city staff getting paid overtime to "volunteer" at this event, the cost of flying Fake Gay and his friends down to compete for the honor of being allowed to host a free concert, tents, bathrooms, trailers full of equipment by the courthouse and this is just scratching the surface. All of these expenses to try to make Salisbury a tourist attraction it will never be. Meanwhile how many businesses have packed up and taken their jobs some place else because they are sick of being taxed to death for this libertard circle jerk.
This event has ABSOLUTELY cost the taxpayer millions.
We would but Fake Gay refuses to release the numbers. If he did he would be chased out of town by a mob with torches and pitchforks.
One million, that is way cheaper than a free concert 😂
Jake doubled the time on the red lights along 13 and 50 to make it look more crowded
Facts !!!
Dude check Facebook for pics as most venues were packed Sat & Sunday I was in the crowd both days and no seats available for most acts at PRMC and Hensen stage. If you were driving you couldn’t see most of the stages as the streets were blocked! John
It was a good event with good crowds. Yes the food was not so good and over priced in my opinion but this event was good for Salisbury. Quit your bitching.
Spoke to Jeremy at Roadie Joes and they had a record setting day on Saturday. The new ice cream store had a line in the street, Brick room was packed and the Vittles food truck there was cranking. Bustling weekend downtown
That depends on your definition of success. Yes, they succeeded in having a concert.
Unsuccessful -
Downtown improvements being done in time (2 years in a row and our contract with NFF will up before it's done)
Out of towners showing up
Locals being featured
It being free (Bill comes in April)
It being Folk
700k people😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Walk through downtown after midnight and look at all the cockroaches scurrying about and you will never eat downtown again. The only one on that list with edible food is mayabellas anyway.
Best comment so far😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Hoodstock! 😂
It was free for me and anyone else that lives nearby. Music Saturday night could be heard in every nearby neighborhood. All we had to do was go outside, sit on porch and listen.
The event was put together by and for Jake Day. Look at that ugly mug, those messed up teeth, the horrible decision making and the crew he rolls with. The SU crew who were accepted to our prestigious local University because... Well because the check cleared. This entire event was a provision for the handicap.
Not hard to believe. No receipt so no evidence but my family doesn't lie. Must be some of Jerk Day fans on here responding.
I was there Saturday...the civic center lot (they said to park in) was full all day. I saw people being brought over by the bus load all day. I would say there was at least 300 people (some had a lot more) at each of the stages at any given time. Plus people waiting in the lines at the food trucks and local restaurants. It would have been nice to see more local vendors but a Total flop definitely not!
Angelos has a line out of the door and into Main Street from 3pm when I walked by the first time, and still a long line at 8pm when I walked by to leave.
I am sure they loved it.
Pretty sure you won’t believe them one way or another. I thought it was a very good turnout. My family had a blast. More people Saturday than Sunday. I came from DC and we stayed the whole weekend.
I’m sure you did, considering there was a cop on every block and they were patrolling around constantly. Stop making up lies to fit your false narrative.
A fool and his money are quickly parted. We brought sandwiches.
Everyone ignores the fact that the City pawned off responsibility to United Way. Last year you volunteered with someone from the City. This year you signed a waiver with United Way. Volunteering was frustrating this year.
I think the landscaping is largely native, which can be a bit scrubby looking, but easy on watering. Down on the plaza they had a lot more flowers in planters. I actually thought it looked really nice and found a picture of me and my sister there from the 80s. Looks better now.
Yikes
If the stages were empty that would explain the empty seats lol. Did you drive by any stages as people were actually playing?
I’ll take “things that never happened for $500,” Alex.
Local choir wanted chance to audition. Local acts weren’t wanted. “Best” of Maryland? I guess they already know Salisbury isn’t the best at anything.
I’ll take “things that never happened for $500,” Alex.
You rode by all day? are you an Uber driver? The roads around the main stages were blocked. You could used jack from -3 or Carroll St

This guy is a lying idiot. Who in their right mind would go to that Shit Fest 3 days in a row and spend all that time and money there? Please tell me how you counted 8,000 people? Not one single person knows what the Hell 8,000 people look like. You are a Jake Day supporter and you know it.
Who in their right mind would go to this Shit Fest if they were not a fan of Jake Day and he is and "idiot?"
Good try Jakey Boi!

Typical Democrats lying again.

Civic center lot was over half full Sunday afternoon. The festival was pretty busy, I just don’t know if it made sense cost wise for the city and tax payers. Vendors and downtown businesses had a good weekend I’m sure, just don’t know how much revenue in rooms etc generates dollars
September 8, 2019 at 7:58 PM
Funny how these clowns keep saying the Shitfestival was "full" "pretty busy" "packed" "crowded" etc. If these clowns ever left Ghetto'bury they might be able to judge a good crowd. Idiots!

I ink you're wrong on this one, it was packed wall to wall.... Very successful year.. Good for the local economy.
September 8, 2019 at 8:13 PM
LMAO!! I kept riding around all weekend and I can assure you it wasn't packed wall to wall and it was definitely a failure. This must be Caroline's other half, Dan O'Hairless. It was a flop and we have pictures to prove it.

Everyone ignores the fact that the City pawned off responsibility to United Way. Last year you volunteered with someone from the City. This year you signed a waiver with United Way. Volunteering was frustrating this year.

Then why the F'k did you do it you stupid moron! Don't kiss Jakes a$$ then come on her to complain.

September 8, 2019 at 10:52 PM
Funny how you say there were at least 300 people at each of the stages and someone earlier said there were 3,000 people at the stages. Must be some of that funny Common Core Math being taught in this ghetto. Thanks Donna Hanlin.
September 8, 2019 at 11:04 PM
This was taken during a performance.
I could have taken a photo of the empty expensive amphitheater that wasnt used either fri or sat evening
Or the empty maryland life stage that wasnt being used or the mostly empty community stage that had a performance .
Just because one stage was busy doesn't mean it was a successful event, but most of you pea brains dont get that but I expect stupid from people that have never ventured outside the city limits and have a narrow view of life.
You are the perfect jake supporter. very few life experiences and impressed by small shiny things.
Lmao!
I thought Hoodstock was pretty funny.
They are always plotting their latest uprising at the brick room. Both of them. Lmao.
10:52 PM, now you know that is not true. I went by the Civic Center several times on Saturday and that lot was never full of cars either time I went by.
Next year send up a drone and get a live feed.
I think a lot of people who live and work downtown were very inconvenienced by both routing traffic around mill street and having to give up their normal parking spaces for the joke festival.
I know my son had to end up parking down by brew river to walk to his job on the plaza. I know others who work a PRMC had to do the same.
These are people who pay both city and county taxes. I think they should have been given priority and not have to give up their parking spaces that was were not otherwise filled anyway!
I know on Saturday, just going on RT 13 through downtown was an adventure. On Sunday to get home from church, I ended up taking the bypass at Fruitland to get home.
I agree with the other statements, I think Saturday was the only busy day, but the rest of time it was dead. I personally had no interest in going to this white hating, political correctness event!
I was there Saturday and I would guess there were at least 30,000 people in attendance. It's very spread out so I'am sure there were areas there were less
full of people.
Great Event!
Dan O'Hairless!! Lmao! You made me get coffee up my nose.
Naysayers,...this was an incredible effort, great food and outstanding music.Look forward to spending more time at this event next year.
Congratulations Downtown Salisbury
I did see a picture of Semen Benn. Holding a bucket. Lmao.
What do you expect, SBY is a shit hole and no one wants to live here, let along come or be here for some festival... Besides, SBY doesn't have enough residence to support a festival like this... Not the way it is truly meant...
Where the hell were you standing that you waited online to get in?
We attended the Small Town Throw Down in Berlin. It was packed with attendees, the atmosphere was fantastic and with one of the groups being The Johnny Cash band who’s performance caused a lot of crowd excitement.
If scheduled for the same time next year, our choice will be the Small Town Trow Down in Berlin!
All of that basically for 2 free Rare Essence shows. Yeah this is a bit much for a city who’s infrastructure is crumbling. I memorize potholes and what roads not to use. I have about 10 catalogued in my head for work commutes etc. Now add Waverly Dr. Can’t wait for the FOIA filed on this event!
It’s Karen Dunn!!! Of course she’s gonna lie because her swinging hubby is Jake Day’s lackey. This farce is nothing more than a Third Friday on steroids with bad food.
Oh so Jonathan couldn’t attend.... surely that was a huge loss for the event.
WOW! A lot of negative comments from people who didn't even attend the event. How can you make an informed opinion with a ride by? I do not live in the city and do not follow the city politics.
I attended most of the day Saturday, with a group of friends. If you didn't get to an event tent early, it was tough to get a good seat. Definitely a good crowd Saturday. The American Guitar Group was a great. Those old guys can play. I cannot comment on Friday & Sunday, because I just rode by and did not attend. It was nice to have an event in Salisbury. Successful event? What is the criteria to be considered successful? It got people in the Salisbury downtown area that would normally not be there.
Actually 1044 I’m a Jake Foe. Can’t stand the guy because he’s a big fat liar. Additionally if he’s letting vendors rap concert goers by charging $53 for that little bit of food, Day should be run out of town. Wondering how much of a kickback the city politicians get from that $53 bill.....
First, let me just say that I am not a fan of Jake Day. I work downtown and have constantly been inconvenienced by the road work that has been happening the last 3 years. I have had to walk many blocks through the rain just to get to my office and then had to deal with the ridiculous parking tickets and meters. I think his ideas for Salisbury are mostly terrible and will just end up wasting taxpayer's money.
That being said, I went with my husband and 1.5 year old son to the festival on Sunday and we had a blast and there were a lot of people in attendance. I am not saying that it was "packed" but it was the most people I have ever seen downtown and I have lived here my entire life. I had family that went all three days and they said that on Saturday it was truly packed. On Sunday, there were long lines at all the food trucks and each concert venue had enough people at them that we were either in the last row of seats or we were standing. It was really fun. The music was great and so was the food that we ate. It was a little over-priced but, hey, the vendors have to make money too so I was glad to pay.
I think that the reason some pictures show it not being well-attended is that the whole festival is so spread out that there were constantly people walking up and down the streets to get to other stages. Also, not every stage had music playing constantly, so taking a picture of one stage at one time when there weren't even performers playing isn't really representative of the entire festival.
Overall, my family had a great time and we will definitely go back next year and probably on more than just one day. I think if more people (specifically people on this site who are constantly hating) would just give it a chance, they would enjoy themselves and it would an even bigger success.
To put attendence into perspective, Raven's stadium holds 71,000 people. Anyone who has been there knows there is no friggin way anywhere near that many people attended the "Folk festival".
The thing is people wouldn’t be busting on this if Jake and his lying jackals would quick jerking the citizens around. His compulsive and pathological lying is why most people don’t believe jack the boy says. He lies more than the average politician and many think it’s a-okay because they want to be in the “in” crowd in da Bury. The fact is this folk whatever is a glorified Third Friday. Jake and company grossly misrepresented this thing and the numbers don’t lie. You can say it’s a big crowd all you want but pictures on this blog post suggests otherwise. Listen if we know Jake has an integrity problem, it’s almost guaranteed others from outside the community have that 411, too. It’s not hard to ascertain. Spend 10 minutes with him and you’ll see the disingenuousness oozing from every pore of his being.
Now, would I like to see Salisbury have a festival that really comes through for the city and it’s economic well-being? Hell yes!!! Of course I would. However Jake is not the man child to deliver such an accolade.
I have many friends who own downtown businesses and would love to see them thrive as opposed to having to shut down for days because of some Jakester event of nothingness.
Yes, hoodstock is funny but so is the portapotty bit, too. Both are accurate.
Just out of curiosity how much did you spend? I ask because there is supposed to be a return on this investment. The median household income in Salisbury is $37,131, $16,251 lower than the national average. The average rent is $1,466, a 3% increase from last year. If you compiled a list of the companies that have left or gone out of business in the last 5 years you could fill a full page at 12 point font.
Being from D.C. you have no idea the tax payer dollars that have been SQUANDERED or handed out to friends of our boy mayor. Glad you liked the fresh coat of paint but trust me, underneath is just rust.
Firefly has 50k. They pay to get in. It is held at a venue that is already set up for such events. They have other things going on there constantly to bring people and income into Dover.
We have spent a fortune on a "free" event that happens once a year, and the infrastructure is barely used the rest of the year. It is not bringing constant income like Dover Downs. We have one year left on the contract with NFF. After that the amphitheater will just be a place for the geese to $#!+.
I have a college education, and even i couldnt figure out what you were trying to say.
Sorry not Jakey boy actually a very conservative Republican who enjoys live music of all kinds. I was there Friday night working as a volunteer in the beer tent for one of the local service clubs. Saturday and Sunday we went to enjoy the music. Try giving back to your community instead of taking a shit on it. You will be a much happier person.
No it was free for anyone that came outside of the county. If you live here, you paid for it.
I think everyone here wishes they "left Wicomico"
Someone earlier said the Civic center parking was half full. That is only about 600 cars. If we assume all were full capacity Chevy Suburbans that is 4,800 people. You would need 3,150 more completely full Suburbans or a total of 7,500 full 4 passenger vehicles. The downtown garage holds less than 1,000. You are clueless.
How about an effort to bring back some of the jobs we have lost instead of giving you a free show. See you in a year, we will just be here continuing to decay.

Students in a number of Wicomico schools have enjoyed fantastic performances today by National Folk Festival artists, thanks to school visit sponsor Whiting-Turner. Here are some photo highlights from four of the performers:
Rahim Alhaj Trio at Prince Street Elementary
Sheila Kay Adams at Pinehurst Elementary
Jones Benally Family Dancers at Fruitland Primary
Aurelio at Beaver Run Elementary
We hope our students will go home and tell their families about what they experienced at school today, and that families will take advantage of all the great music, folk traditions, dancing and more at the National Folk Festival in Downtown Salisbury, starting at 6 tonight and continuing through Saturday and Sunday.

Found this gem on the Wicomico County Board of Education's FB page.
Now, this speaks volumes "We hope our students will go home and tell their families about what they experienced at school today..."
So "Dr." Donna Hanlin let her former student and butt buddy Jake Day use our public-funded school system to promote this failed National Folk Festival. School has only been in Session for 2 days and they are giving the students a day off already. Dr. Hanlin needs to be fired for this waste of precious school days and tax dollars.
Shame on newly appointed board member Tanya Lewis for praising this Shit Fest in our County Schools. I will make sure I work against you and get many people to vote against you in your next election.
I also noticed how they went back and edited the posts to say these visits were sponsored by Whiting-Turner. You know the same Whiting-Turner that is making $ Millions off the taxpayers by being building all of our schools. They make so much money off the taxpayers they opened their own office in Salisbury now.

The National Folk Festival made an appearance at NORTHWESTERN ELEMENTARY in Mardela on Friday.
Yamini Kalluri and the Carnatic Ensemble entertained the students with music and classical dances from India.
The students had a great time learning and participating in the dances.

At WESTSIDE INTERMEDIATE, students were dazzled by the magic of Professor Horn! What a show he put on that even had the teachers and administrators laughing and wondering..."how did he do that?"
Thanks Professor Horn for performing at Westide Intermediate!

AHHHH. That worwic college edumacatedd.
I knew what he meant. What the hell does a college degree have to do with phonetics?
Yes, same foreign vendor: Turkey leg and blooming onion — $27 ! No prices posted.
Ok... I have read where people are estimating how many people were in attendance at various shows.... Our beloved Civic Center at capacity seats 5000 people .... there is your visual.... I have been to several shows that were very close to sold out..... meaning there were only single seats scattered that were available at the time the show would start....the two shows i saw on saturday were packed... one was the Richard Henson approx. 3:30 saturday afternoon- easy 1000 people, the other was community stage, 5:30 / 6:00 pm , again an easy 1000....
What a sad, bitter bunch of people in these comments. You don't have to be a Jake Day fan to wish for good things for Salisbury and celebrate a popular event in the city.
@1:01 you're a f'ing clown. Nobody is bitter just sick of the lies and deceit. Jake day put the city of Salisbury on the hook for millions of dolly to host this shit and boasted about 100's of thousands to attend. He barely got 25,000 total all weekend for this garbage. People only attended and supported a couple of the more popular acts the rest of the time it was slim pickings
Hell all the money whiting-turner has taken away from local contractors the least they can do is sponsor something in the community
Like it or not the fact that anyone came out only shows how starved for anything to do here besides shop and sit in traffic people are. It's refreshing to know there are people willing to leave their houses get out of their cars and walk further than the handicap spot and look around and spend time with the members of their community.
WBOC is part of the "good ole boy's" group around here. They have to make their buddies look good, no matter what lie they have to tell.
They should call it, International Folk Festival with all the foreign performers.
"A folk festival celebrates traditional folk crafts and folk music. .
"Folk art encompasses art produced from an indigenous culture . . . So why mexican performers or any foreign performers? Should be American culture, and crafts. That's why I don't go to this farce.
I think what people are really expressing here is not so much anger at the folk festival, but rather frustration at the lack of transparency and truthfulness from the current mayor and his administration. They feel that their city and their tax dollars have been hijacked and their interests are not being represented. The backbone of this city is its lifelong residents who feel like Salisburys history is being disregarded and disrespected. It's not government for the people and by the people who live and work here anymore. It's been replaced by God only knows what and who. Day and his ilk claim to be "progressive " when in fact they are white, liberal elitists. They don't care about you and me. They just want you to believe they do.
I didn't see good ole James Yankmychainoff either. Lol. With his trusty sidekick Gould dens mustard.
I hear tell they were packed like sardines. And just as fishy. 😂
@4:58 you absolutely nailed it 100%. Day and his Entourage are like the same poser's at the national level. To hey claim to be for the people and throw them a few crumbs here and there while they have the Brink's truck backed up to the rear doors. Typical liberal elitists robbing the taxpayers blind
Who went and didn't enjoy it? Virtually nobody! This equals successful event in my book. Plus, the music was quality.
This is hilarious to commend an outside company like whiting-turner for minimal involvement in the community. Aren't they one of the top two in the area? They get all the new school construction in wicomico county and gilliss gilkerson gets all the cities construction revenue. Why hasn't all of this been investigated
I went on Sunday and enjoyed it. The Henson tent was nowhere near full, certainly nothing close to 1000 people. The slope near the hospital had many hundred -- probably 500+.
The food was expensive, but folks were buying.
People did not seem to be buying merchandise.
Bucket brigade a bit annoying.
Overall it was a good event -- but then I am not a city taxpayer.
I would be interested in knowing how much this did cost local taxpayers.
It’s really sad how negative so many of you are. I hope you learn how to see the positive energy that’s here.
If you did not detect sarcasm in this comment you are an idiot.
All I can say it's pretty damn stupid of a mayor and city government to implement programs and events that encourage all the garbage in Baltimore Maryland to make the trek across the bay bridge and destroy what was once a very proud and beautiful city!! Jake day is just inviting chaos and mayhem into your whole region. The regions that hold these events don't go and support section 8 housing beingbuilt to allow the riffraff to set up shop and never leave. Day gets to take 100 selfies a day and his buddies get all the construction contracts
@9:46 typical liberal if someone has an opinion that doesn't go along with outrageous spending and entitlement their either being negative or a racist. At some point you have to be honest with yourself spending millions of dollars for the benefit of 25-30,000 people to enjoy this type of entertainment is not fiscally sound. Try running your household as wreckless as Jake Day does the city of Salisbury and see how long it is before you're on the other side of the fence living at a shelter eating meals at HALO. Grow up people Salisbury could spend it's resources on better things than Jake day buying popularity and acceptance
9:46- Your "positive energy" came out of my wallet, and I didn't even go! Positive energy doesn't focus on the issues that need addressing, and digs a bigger hole of debt that we have to pay for. Shove your positive energy you moronic hippie. You give stoners a bad rep by being incredibly stupid!
9/9/2019 @4:58, I have to agree, you Nailed IT!!!!!
Nor could clients get to Downtown businesses most of the week prior. Thusly forcing us to close the weekend. And of course like 2 restaurants did well so they are saying how it benefited all of Downtown.
