Judge tosses $38 million award in case of Maryland woman killed by police

A jury's $38 million award to the family of a woman killed by police in suburban Baltimore has been thrown out of court by a judge.

A police bullet killed 23-year-old Korryn Gaines and wounded her 5-year-old son in 2016 in Randallstown, Md., after an hours-long standoff—an incident that drew national attention.

In a lengthy decision, Maryland Judge Mickey Norman rejected the jury’s finding last year that the officer who shot Gaines acted unreasonably in violation of her civil rights, the Baltimore Sun reported Friday.

Love It. It was probably a "jury of her peers" if you know what I mean who like most haven't a drop of honest blood in them so would never admit she and only she caused her own death.

The jury was all women. The defence plucked at their heart strings.

IIRC, the deceased had a weapon and may have drawn on the cops. Net result was improving the gene pool due to her actions. No damages justified, except perhaps to the cops who answered the call. Of course, her estate consisted of her SNAP card.

She pointed a gun and fired at them. Sorry for your luck and Tough Sh!t. Shame on the idiots that awarded her family $38 Million. See below:

After an hours-long standoff, police said in a news release that Korryn Gaines, 23, pointed the gun directly at an officer Monday afternoon and said, "If you don't leave, I'm going to kill you." That's when an officer shot at the woman, police said, and Gaines fired two shots, but didn't strike any officer.

"We discharged one round at her," Police Chief James Johnson told reporters at an evening news conference. "In return, she fired several rounds back at us. We fired again at her, striking and killing her."
