15 Ridiculous Things That Millennials Got Blamed For

Forget "Thanks, Obama!" These days it's more like "Thanks, Millennials!"

Millennials, also known as "Generation Y," are people born in the time period between the early 1980s to the early 2000s, and we can't help but notice that they have pretty much become the scapegoats for everything that's wrong, bad, or simply evolving in our world. The tradition of older generations blaming younger generations for the world's problems is nothing new; the baby boomers used to complain about Generation X like crazy too, remember? But nowadays the stuff that the younger generation is getting blamed for is downright ridiculous.

Sure, the so-called "Me-Generation" has different priorities and goals than their parents' generation. No one is arguing that fact. Generally speaking, millennials are more interested in maintaining healthy eating habits, spending their money on experiences rather than physical possessions, and working tirelessly to get out from under all that crippling student loan debt. And of course, one can't overlook the fact that they grew up surrounded by sweet, sweet internet.

Earlier generations had to rely on things like books to find information - imagine! They had to actually drive to stores for things instead of ordering items online and having them delivered to their doorstep in two days. They had to walk to school each day, uphill BOTH WAYS. Life was tougher! People were more resilient! Blah blah blah. We're not buying it.

Here’s Why Identity Politics Threaten America

Is there an answer to the problem of identity politics in America? For some, the “solution” is direct.

“We need to take on the oppression narrative,” conservative commentator Heather Mac Donald said at a Heritage Foundation gathering on Capitol Hill.

Americans need to “rebut” the idea “that every difference in American society today is the result by definition of discrimination,” Mac Donald said during the event Monday, called “Identity Politics Is a Threat to Society. Is There Anything We Can Do About It at This Point?

Without challenging this overarching narrative, the Manhattan Institute fellow said, “there is going to be no end to identity politics.”

The rise of identity politics has become a phenomenon not just in America, but in the West in general.

It’s time for the Supreme Court to end asset forfeiture

Tyson Timbs, an Indiana man desperate for money to support his heroin habit, did exactly what the undercover cops asked him to do: sell them 4 grams of the drug in two transactions for a total of $385. His reward was a year of home detention, five years of probation and $1,200 in court-ordered fees.

Adding insult to injury, police seized the 2012 Land Rover that Timbs had bought with $42,000 from his father’s life-insurance payout. In a case that could lead to limits on the system of legalized theft known as civil asset forfeiture, the Supreme Court is considering whether Timbs can challenge the confiscation of his car as a violation of the Eighth Amendment’s ban on “excessive fines.”

An Indiana judge rejected the forfeiture on that basis, deeming it “grossly disproportional to the gravity of [Timbs’] offense.” A state appeals court agreed, noting that Timbs’ car cost four times the maximum fine for his drug felony.

The Indiana Supreme Court reversed that decision. “The United States Supreme Court has never enforced the Excessive Fines Clause against the States,” it said, “and we opt not to do so here.”

Here’s What Opponents of Criminal Justice Reform Get Wrong

Some arguments against the modest prison and sentencing reforms in the Senate’s First Step Act echo an influential claim from the 1970s attributed to the late sociologist Robert Martinson: When it comes to reducing recidivism rates among inmates, “nothing works.”

Once taken out of its original context, that claim resounded in legislatures across the country ever since.

Unfortunately, few lawmakers know the context of that claim, or how Martinson’s research later developed, or what the full story means for the First Step Act.

So, here it is.

At its core, the First Step Act would seek to reduce crime by subjecting each federal inmate to a validated risk and needs assessment; evaluating each federal inmate’s risk of committing an offense once they re-join society, as 95 percent will; and matching inmates to programs designed to address whatever issues factored into their personal choice to victimize others, be it a lack of anger management skills or education, substance abuse issues, or something else.

The bill would offer limited incentives called “earned time credits” to inmates who were not convicted of any one of the 50 disqualifying offenses (mostly terrorism, sex, and violent offenses), and who also prove to prison officials, over the course of multiple objective assessments, that they pose a low threat to public safety.

Drug-fueled fight over oatmeal turns fatal: Man dies months later of gunshot wound to the head

A Pennsylvania man died of his injuries this week, months after his wife shot him in the head during a drug-fueled argument about oatmeal, authorities said.

John Maki, 29, of Fayette County, was shot in the head April 5 after smoking crack cocaine with his wife, when he complained that she bought traditional oatmeal instead of the instant variety, authorities said.

Maki’s wife, Rachel Eutsey, 36, was previously charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and child endangerment in connection with the case. No information was immediately available on whether she will face additional charges following the death.

"It's believed (the fight was) over the brand of oats that she purchased for him. Apparently he wasn't happy over the traditional oats that she bought instead of the instant oats that he wanted," state police Trooper Robert Broadwater told Pittsburgh’s WTAE-TV.

To honor the death of America's 41st President George H W Bush, President Trump has declared Wednesday to be a 'National Day of Mourning' for his predecessor, who died last night at age 94.

This is the first time since Hurricane Sandy in October 2012 that the stock market will be closed on a regular trading day. A spokesman for the New York Stock Exchange confirmed that markets would close in keeping with tradition.

President Trump said he plans to hold a press conference to share progress made at the Argentina summit and to honor the fallen president after the funeral. The market was closed on Jan. 2, 2007 to honor the death of Gerald Ford when he passed away, resulting in a rare four-day halt in trading, according to CNN Money.

Director of Progressive Immigration Group: Caravan Is 'Political Nightmare' for Democrats

The founder and director of America's Voice, a progressive group that advocates for illegal immigrants in the United States, said Thursday that the migrant caravan at the U.S.-Mexico border is a "political nightmare" for Democrats.

Frank Sharry is the founder and executive director of America’s Voice, which seeks a "direct, fair, and inclusive road to citizenship for immigrants in the United States without papers," among other measures.

"The Takeout" podcast host Major Garrett, CBS News' chief White House correspondent, askedSharry about President Donald Trump's message that Republicans support national security and lawful immigration, while Democrats support open borders and the caravan.

Sharry called Trump's claim that Democrats want open borders "ridiculous" and a "distortion." He said the message, however, played well to Trump's base, while also presenting a "nightmare" for Democrats.

"I operate very closely in Democratic circles, and I can tell you that they saw the caravan as a political nightmare," he said. Whatever their actual policy preferences, Democrats "think the idea of being defined as [pro] open borders is a liability."

He credited Trump with tying Democrats to "open borders" and "sanctuary cities," even when they support border security measures.

Fake Hate: Black College Lacrosse Player Arrested for Posting N-Word and Swastika Graffiti Targeting Himself!

Fake Hate strikes Maryland Campus!

Black college lacrosse player Fynn Ajani Arthur was arrested in connection to two incidents on campus where he posted graffiti on a campus dorm and similar graffiti earlier in November.

The graffiti called for the murder of all black students on campus.
Arthur is a mixed black student.

Arthur graduated from Brunswick in 2015, according to the Press Herald, and is a public health major at Goucher College in Towson, Maryland.

The Daily Mail reported:

A black college lacrosse player has been arrested in connection with two incidents of racist graffiti found in a dorm on the Goucher College campus in Maryland.

Fynn Ajani Arthur, a 21-year-old from Brunswick, Maine, was charged with two counts of malicious destruction of property on Thursday night in Baltimore County.

His arrest came after graffiti aimed at black and Latino students was found on the second floor of a campus dorm, one floor above where similar graffiti had been found on November 14, Goucher College administrators said in a statement.

Both incidents that shook the Towson campus involved backward swastikas and targeted specific individuals, according to the statement.

Thursday’s graffiti depicted swastikas, the letters ‘KKK’ and appeared to include the last names of four black students, including Arthur. The previous graffiti reportedly said all ‘n*****s’ on campus would be killed.

Asia Bibi and the First Freedom

Column: Why hasn't she been granted asylum?

Asia Bibi got into an argument with her co-workers and ended up in jail. Bibi is a Pakistani Catholic and mother of five. She cannot read. For years, she picked fruit in her rural village. One day in June 2009, her peers refused to share a pitcher of water with her because she is a Christian. She argued with them, muttering some caustic words about the founder of Islam. They responded by accusing her of blasphemy: a capital crime in Pakistan. The next year she was sentenced to death row.

No longer. In October the Supreme Court of Pakistan acquitted and released Asia Bibi after a long legal battle, during which Islamic radicals assassinated a Pakistani official for supporting her cause. The response to her acquittal was unsurprising. Global media and human rights organizations cheered, while Pakistani fundamentalists demonstrated and hung Asia Bibi in effigy. The outrage spooked Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan into making it more difficult for her to leave the country. Facing the risk of extrajudicial killing, Bibi remains in hiding. Her lawyer Saiful Malook fled to Europe. Protests greeted his arrival.

The other day in Frankfurt, Malook called on the German government to provide Asia Bibi and her family with documents that would allow them to exit Pakistan. Why no Western government has yet granted her asylum is something of a mystery. It is possible that Bibi and her family may be using the negotiations to secure the release of additional people whose safety they feel is also in jeopardy. European governments, including the United Kingdom's, may also worry that Asia Bibi's arrival would provoke a backlash from their own militant Islamists. Nor is Europe exactly the global standard in free speech. Around the same time the Pakistani Supreme Court reversed the verdict against Asia Bibi, the European Court of Human Rights upheld a verdict against an Austrian woman for "publicly disparaging religious doctrines," namely Islam. She and Bibi should compare notes.

Conservative writer Corsi files criminal complaint against Mueller, alleges bid to seek false testimony

Jerome Corsi has instructed his attorneys to file a complaint with Acting AG Whitaker; reaction from National Security attorney Brad Moss and Fox News contributor Jason Chaffetz.

Conservative author Jerome Corsi on Monday filed a “criminal and ethics complaint” against Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team, accusing investigators of trying to bully him into giving “false testimony” against President Trump.

The complaint, which Corsi had threatened for days, is the latest escalation between Mueller’s team and its investigation targets.

The 78-page document, asserting the existence of a “slow-motion coup against the president,” was filed to a range of top law enforcement officials including Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz, D.C.’s U.S. Attorney Jessie Liu and the Bar Disciplinary Counsel.

“Dr. Corsi has been criminally threatened and coerced to tell a lie and call it the truth,” the complaint states.

Corsi, who wrote the anti-President Obama book "The Obama Nation" and is connected with political operative Roger Stone, has claimed for the past week that he was being improperly pressured by Mueller’s team to strike a plea deal which he now says he won’t sign.

Report: Most Migrant Households Rely on Welfar

President Donald Trump’s draft plan to exclude welfare-dependent migrants is justified by data showing that almost two-thirds of households headed by non-citizens use at least one welfare program, says the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS).

“In 2014, 63 percent of households headed by a non-citizen reported that they used at least one welfare program, compared to 35 percent of native-headed households,” says the group’s December 3 report, which relies on federal data to track migrant use of welfare.

“A very large share of immigrants are unable to support their own children and turn to taxpayer-funded means-tested programs,” the report says. “In terms of the policy debate over immigration and the implications for public coffers, this is the central concern.”

Socialism Always Ends In Destruction

Every attempt at socialism has failed miserably. Venezuela is only the latest country that has tried to implement a socialist paradise, only to inevitably crumble and crash before our eyes. Socialism, and its natural progression, communism, has caused the deaths of 100 million people since its inception 100 years ago.

Just a few decades ago, Venezuela had massive oil reserves and an abundance of other resources. It enjoyed wealth and an excellent standard of living. Today, Venezuelans have no food, no medicine, and the country is driven by corruption and fear. While a starving population is in despair, many are desperately trying to flee paradise. The army, supported by President Madero, is in the street, ready to brutalize any dissenters. Madero and the military are not starving.

Socialism can only survive through corruption and intimidation. It’s a system tailor-made for corruption. And corruption may be Venezuela’s largest industry.

Despite that fact that every socialist paradise on earth has turned into hell, many American politicians, and their supporters are calling for socialism for America. Senators Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Kamala Harris are self-declared proud socialist, loudly singing its praises. Younger newcomers such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Andrew Gillum are joining the chorus.

Macron On Edge As Up To 120,000 Angry "Yellow Vests" Prepare To Storm The Bastille

French President Emmanuel Macron may institute emergency tax cuts in an attempt to stem violent protests which have gripped France for three weeks, according to Bloomberg.

The government is increasingly worried that the economy, alongside its own political fortunes, is threatened by demonstrations against fuel taxes that have spiraled into a push-back against Macron’s policies.

Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said the impact of the riots was “severe,” and left a meeting of finance ministers in Brussels to return to Paris for crisis talks with colleagues. -Bloomberg

In order to make the tax cuts work, the French government will need to find ways to cut spending that doesn't hobble growth, as well as tax measures that will stimulate the economy.

For Macron, the stakes are high as he doesn’t want to damage the credibility he needs to push for reforms in Europe. The European Commission has already said his existing budget is at risk of non-compliance with EU rules.

According to Marc Touati, economist and president of business consultancy ACDEFI, Macron may be forced to take a more radical approach, even if that means the deficit slipping a bit. -Bloomberg

The protests have crippled revenues across the country, with some large supermarkets seeing drops as much as 25 percent. Hotel bookings have suffered a similar fate.

Mueller Withheld "Details That Would Exonerate The President" Of Having Kremlin Backchannel

It appears that special counsel Robert Mueller withheld key information in its plea deal with Trump's former attorney, Michael Cohen, which would exonerate Trump and undermine the entire purpose of the special counsel, according to Paul Sperry of RealClearInvestigations.

Cohen pleaded guilty last week to lying to the Senate intelligence committee in 2017 about the Trump Organization's plans to build a Trump Tower in Moscow - telling them under oath that negotiations he was conducting ended five months sooner than they actually did.

Mueller, however, in his nine-page charging document filed with the court seen by Capitol Hill sources, failed to include the fact that Cohen had no direct contacts at the Kremlin - which undercuts any notion that the Trump campaign had a "backchannel" to Putin.

On page 7 of the statement of criminal information filed against Cohen, which is separate from but related to the plea agreement, Mueller mentions that Cohen tried to email Russian President Vladimir Putin’s officeon Jan. 14, 2016, and again on Jan. 16, 2016. But Mueller, who personally signed the document, omitted the fact that Cohen did not have any direct points of contact at the Kremlin, and had resorted to sending the emails to a general press mailbox. Sources who have seen these additional emails point out that this omitted information undercuts the idea of a “back channel” and thus the special counsel's collusion case.

Nancy Pelosi has every incentive to snub Trump and let his new NAFTA die

President Donald Trump is a re-gifter. The question is whether soon-to-be House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., will be impressed.

Trump signed a symbolic trade deal with Canada and Mexico at the G-20 Summit last week. Despite the pageantry and the new name, the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, trade analysts agree that the deal makes only marginal changes to the North American Free Trade Agreement. Now Congress has six months to accept or pass entirely on what is essentially a rewrapped and slightly refurbished NAFTA.

More than likely, that decision will belongs to Pelosi in the New Year. Odds are good she won’t look favorably on the package for two reasons.

Census confirms: 63 percent of ‘non-citizens’ on welfare

A majority of “non-citizens,” including those with legal green card rights, are tapping into welfare programs set up to help poor and ailing Americans, a Census Bureau finding that bolsters President Trump’s concern about immigrants costing the nation.

In a new analysis of the latest numbers, from 2014, 63 percent of non-citizens are using a welfare program, and it grows to 70 percent for those here 10 years or more, confirming another concern that once immigrants tap into welfare, they don’t get off it.

The Center for Immigration Studies said in its report that the numbers give support for Trump’s plan to cut non-citizens off welfare from the “public charge” if they want a green card that allows them to legally work in the United States.

“The Trump administration has proposed new ‘public charge’ rules making it harder for prospective immigrants to qualify for lawful permanent residence -- green cards -- if they use or are likely to use U.S. welfare programs,” said CIS.

“Concern over immigrant welfare use is justified, as households headed by non-citizens use means-tested welfare at high rates.

Judge Gets Federalism Backwards on Sanctuary Cities

Yet again, a judicial despot has blocked one of President Donald Trump’s immigration actions. This time, a federal judge in New York ruled against Trump’s decision to withhold federal funding from cities or states that enact illegal-alien-harboring “sanctuary” policies. Again, Trump isn’t trying to change those laws; he’s just defunding cities and states that have them. In the ruling, however, Judge Edgardo Ramos wrote that “the separation of powers acts as a check on tyranny and the concentration of power.” Unfortunately, Ramos’s understanding and application of the Constitution’s separation of powers principle is, well, unconstitutional.

Separation of powers begins from the understanding that everything is under state and local jurisdiction unless specifically delineated by the Constitution to be a responsibility of the federal government. In this case, the issue of immigration — who is and is not allowed entry into the nation — comes under the purview of the federal government, not that of the individual states — much less cities...

Supreme Court Turns Down Challenge To The Border Wall

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to take up a challenge to President Donald Trump’s border wall Monday, which asserted that the administration violated the Constitution when it exempted border barrier projects from environmental regulations.

The plaintiffs warn of adverse effects to local ecosystems should the administration raise a wall along the border with Mexico.

“It’s disappointing that the Supreme Court won’t consider this important constitutional issue,” Brian Segee, a senior attorney at the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD), told The Daily Caller News Foundation by email. “Trump has abused his power to wreak havoc along the border to score political points. He’s illegally sweeping aside bedrock environmental and public health laws. We’ll continue to fight Trump’s dangerous wall in the courts and in Congress.”

A 1996 law authorized the attorney general (and later the Homeland Security secretary) to build border barriers to deter illegal immigration. In that connection, the law gave the Department of Homeland Security secretary power to exempt certain border projects from environmental laws like the Endangered Species Act, as well as other legal rules, to ensure quick construction.

MD League of Conservation Voters Honors Mayor Day with President Theodore Roosevelt Award

Annapolis, MD – Maryland League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (Maryland LCVEF) today announced that City of Salisbury Mayor Jake Day has been awarded the organization’s second annual President Theodore Roosevelt Award, acknowledging his integral role in the ongoing renaissance of the downtown area.

Specifically, the community’s notable record of progress in streetscape rehabilitation and building revitalization and reuse were acknowledged, as were river waterfront access and beautification efforts. Further, Salisbury’s commitment to the unglamorous but vital work of improving a 100-year-old underground water and sewer infrastructure was key as well.

The President Theodore Roosevelt Award – presented by Maryland LCVEF annually on the anniversary of the birth of President Theodore Roosevelt – recognizes the individual, group, or organization in Maryland who through a specific action, event, or body of work leaves a positive conservation legacy that mirrors the ethos of President Roosevelt.

“It is our honor to present this award to Mayor Day,” said Maryland LCVEF Board Chair Chuck Porcari. “Teddy Roosevelt served his community and his country in many forms, as does the Mayor. As the traditional anchor of Maryland’s Eastern Shore and the Delmarva Peninsula as a whole, today the City of Salisbury brings with it a spirit of renewal, revitalization, and long-term sustainability that Mayor Day, his team, and the region as a whole can be proud of.”

Mayor Day released the following statement:

“What we do here in Salisbury has repercussions well beyond our City limits, and so we strive to provide the best future possible for all of our citizens – in Salisbury, around the Chesapeake, and throughout Maryland – by raising the bar on our commitment to sustainability, conservation, and quality-of-life.

“The Maryland League of Conservation Voters Education Fund has been clearing that bar for years. I am humbled to receive this award and proud of what it represents. President Theodore Roosevelt himself said of our natural resources, ‘The ages have been at work on it, and man can only mar it.’ It is then our obligation to protect it.

“Whether rebuilding our wastewater treatment plant to become the producer of some of Maryland’s cleanest effluent, hiring a full-time sustainability coordinator, introducing curbside cardboard recycling, providing composting at our major events, becoming a USA Bee City and a Sustainable Maryland city, or securing the largest conservation easement inside a municipality in Maryland, we seek to meet our obligation, raise and clear new bars for environmental quality, and set an example that others are eager to follow.”

Nominations for the Maryland LCVEF President Theodore Roosevelt Award were actively solicited from all areas of the state, with the winner selected from a pool of a dozen finalists.
