10 foods that could reduce your risk of cancer

Our diets may have the potential to help prevent cancer.

Healthista's nutrition director Rick Hay, explains what foods are good for a cancer awareness diet and their health-boosting properties.

Prior studies have linked a poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle to an increased risk of developing cancer, as well as other chronic health conditions like heart disease and diabetes.

In fact, the World Cancer Research Fund estimates that about 20 percent of all cancers diagnosed in the US are related to poor nutrition, body fatness, physical inactivity, as well as excess alcohol consumption.

Rick Hay has given us some food options to add to our diets that might be able to keep cancer at bay or work together with other cancer treatments to fight the disease.

Five E.P.A. officials were sidelined after raising concerns about the security demands and unusual spending of the agency's chief, Scott Pruitt

At least five officials at the Environmental Protection Agency, four of them high-ranking, were reassigned or demoted, or requested new jobs in the past year after they raised concerns about the spending and management of the agency’s administrator, Scott Pruitt.

The concerns included unusually large spending on office furniture and first-class travel, as well as certain demands by Mr. Pruitt for security coverage, such as requests for a bulletproof vehicle and an expanded 20-person protective detail, according to people who worked for or with the E.P.A. and have direct knowledge of the situation.

It’s Getting Harder for Democrats to Deny They’re the Party of Flat-Out Citizen Disarmament

“Karen Carter Peterson, chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party, has distinguished herself as the highest-profile Democrat in the country to outright call for a repeal of the Second Amendment,” The Advocate notes. “Last week, Peterson sent out a tweet with the words, ‘Repeal the Second Amendment.’ The tweet also linked to a New York Times column by former U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, arguing for a repeal of the Second Amendment.”

First of all, Peterson is more than a state politico. She’s Vice Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee.

As for Stevens, his arguments fall apart simply by comparing them to what the Founders and past Supreme Court rulings have said. And while Stevens was a Republican nominee, he was not the first such “GOP justice” who betrayed the expectations of those who appointed him. William Brennan, Earl Warren, Warren Burger and David Souter all come to mind -- because they acted more like Democrats.

When it comes to guns, depriving the people of, as the Miller Court put it, “ordinary military equipment … that … could contribute to the common defense,” and of what Tench Coxe called “the birthright of an American,” is part of the Democrat Party platform. Those “weapons of war” they want to ban (along with a host of other prior restraint infringements) are precisely what we’re entitled to have for reasons the Founders made clear.

There’s a federal so-called “assault weapon” ban out there that Democrat oath-breaker David Cicilline of Rhode Island has been trying to force down our throats for several years now—fortunately, it has never had more than a one percent chance of enactment, but significantly, it has gained 175 co-sponsors, all of them Democrats.

But what about so-called “pro-gun Democrats”? I maintain there is no such thing. Sure, you’ll get politicians in hunting country who appeal to the sport shooter crowd and have to vote a certain way in order to get elected—the Party allows for that so it can increase its power and influence and advance other agenda items. But when you get right down to it, not a one of them will oppose a nominee like Obama or Hillary for president or Sotomayor or Kagan for the Supreme Court, they all support the cultural terraforming of the country in order to gain Democrat voters, and they’ll even betray constituents on guns when it suits their purposes.

Remember A-rated “pro-gun Democrat” and gopher hunter Jon Tester? Remember what this phony “champion of the right to bear arms said when he sided with Bloomberg’s Everytown to deny “allowing” peaceable American gun owners to lawfully carry their firearms when doing business with post offices?

Or here’s another one: Chris Coster, whose “proven record of defending the Second Amendment” evidently included shilling for Hillary and rolling over for Obama executive orders on guns. And don’t get me started on “proven champion of the Second Amendment” Harry Reid, Joe Manchin, Kirsten Gillibrand...

I could do this all day. The ones who should have to are the paid staffers at NRA who convinced their members to vote for these frauds.

Admittedly, there is no shortage of Republican turncoats (and let's not forget that neocon George Will called for repeal decades ago). When I see them, I call them out. No matter how high up the food chain. That’s why I recommend never donating to the party, but only to individual candidates who have proven they mean what they say. By and large, when there’s a major push for citizen disarmament, the Republicans need to be managed to keep the herd from spooking and bolting, but the Democrats are the ones trying to start the stampede.

And their constituents are fine with that. Hell, they demand it.

“The vast majority of Democrats also support banning all semi-automatic weapons,” National Review reports. “More than a third of the Democratic party would do away with the Second Amendment [and] Democrats are evenly split on banning all handguns (including revolvers) except those carried by law enforcement.”

And that in turn “inspires” the media to offer advocacy essays like “Repeal the Second Amendment” and “More Democrats Should Be Calling for the Repeal of the Second Amendment.”

“Progressives” who haven’t thought through the logistics and the resistance that trying it would spawn evidently believe it’s simply a matter of getting enough votes.

"It's not a crazy idea," Christopher M. Norwood, J.D., Spokesman for the Democratic Black Caucus of Florida and a Democratic Executive Committee Member for Miami-Dade County insists.

Sure it is, Chris. You just haven't thought it through.

None of them have, because a repeal would not eradicate what the Hellercourt and the Cruikshank court before it recognized as a preexisting right, and some who view it as such will not go gentle into that good night.

Why It's Illegal to Roll Through Stop Signs on Your Bike — For Now

Ever see a bicyclist roll through a stop sign after slowing down at an intersection? Or ride through a red light after stopping and yielding? It’s called the “Idaho stop,” and until recently only one state allowed it: Idaho.

But that’s changing. In October, Delaware became the second state to make it legal for cyclists to yield instead of stopping at stop signs on some roads. Some are calling it the “Delaware yield.” And several other states are considering Idaho-stop-type legislation.

The practice is controversial, said Douglas Shinkle, transportation program director for the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). “There’s a perception among some people that this is giving special rights to bicyclists and legalizing an unsafe behavior.”

Tuition Overtakes State Money as Funding Source for Public Colleges

State colleges and universities are relying more on tuition dollars to fund their operations even as state funding rises and colleges come under pressure to keep tuition low.

Last fiscal year, for the first time, tuition revenue outpaced government appropriations for higher education in the majority of states, according to the annual higher education finance report from the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association. The association represents chief executives of statewide governing, policy and coordinating boards of postsecondary education.

Tuition dollars are becoming a more important revenue source as more students head to college, tuition prices rise, and state lawmakers struggle to return higher education funding to the per-student levels seen before the Great Recession.

Felony Voting Laws Are Confusing; Activists Would Ditch Them Altogether

Her sentencing made headlines across the country this week: A woman, recently released from prison in Texas and still on felony probation, is set to head back to prison for another five years after she unknowingly broke the law by voting in the 2016 election.

Texas law prohibits people such as Crystal Mason from voting until they are no longer under supervision by corrections officers. Mason told the court she had no idea she was prohibited from voting. At her polling station, officials let her cast a provisional ballot.

The confusion over felons’ voting rights is not limited to Mason’s situation or to Texas. Across the country, state felon voting laws vary widely. Some states bar people from voting only while they are in prison, while others deny voting rights to people who are still under the supervision of a probation or parole officer. And some prohibit convicted felons from voting for the rest of their lives, unless they receive a pardon from the governor.

Distracted-driving sting in Montgomery Co. snags 65 drivers, more to come

WASHINGTON — In just under two hours at the busy Bethesda, Maryland, intersection of River and Goldsboro roads, 65 drivers had a rough start to their Wednesday morning: They were pulled over for distracted driving.

It’s illegal to drive while using a phone, yet it causes dozens of accidents across the region each day. To fight that, Montgomery County is cracking down on distracted drivers and detailing what kind of ticket they could face.

“We do it randomly in different locations. We have somebody hold the sign and we put out a signboard trailer or something like that to let people know. It’s against the law. If we see people doing it, we’re going to write them for it,” Sgt. Phillip Chapin with Montgomery County police said of ticketing.

The New Fight Over 'Dark Money' Campaign Donations

Some cities want to make campaign donors identify themselves. But lawmakers and lawsuits are getting in their way.

Voters in Tempe, Ariz., don't like undisclosed campaign funds sloshing into local politics. Last month, 91 percent of them approved an amendment to the city's charter that requires independent groups spending more than $1,000 on local elections to disclose their donors.

It won't matter.

Last week, the Arizona Legislature passed a bill blocking local governments from imposing such transparency rules on nonprofit groups. Republican Gov. Doug Ducey, who has benefited from millions in so-called dark money expenditures, is expected to sign it.

Can Democrats Flip Crucial Governors' Seats?

In the 36 gubernatorial races this fall, all but 10 of the states are currently led by Republicans.

The last five months have been a busy time in politics. And yet, since our last handicapping of the 2018 gubernatorial races, the broad outline of this year’s 36 contests has barely budged.

In fact, we’ve changed the rating of only one state: New York moves from safe Democratic to likely Democratic.

Otherwise, 18 seats are still vulnerable -- 12 of which are held by the GOP, compared to just five by the Democrats and one by an independent, Alaska’s Bill Walker. Of those 18, three GOP-held seats -- Illinois, Maine and New Mexico -- currently lean Democratic. By contrast, no Democratic seat leans Republican, though three are rated tossup: the open seats in Colorado, Connecticut and Minnesota.

20 Questions You’re Not Supposed to Ask in 2018 America

As politics has become more tribal and geared toward demonization instead of debate, it’s amazing how many important questions don’t seem to be asked any more. Instead of discussing issues rationally, people are stuck in little boxes based on where they fall on an issue. Whatever happened to actually assuming that there are two potentially legitimate sides to a debate and hashing them out based upon which one makes more sense? Of course, to do that, you’ve got to get beyond political correctness to ask the basic questions — questions that are deemed racist, sexist, fascistic, etc., etc., as part of an effort to shut down necessary conversations. At the end of the day, if you want to actually prove someone wrong, you’ve got to engage him on his ideas and make better, more logical points. If you can’t even handle the basic questions so many people have, then maybe you don’t have the best ideas.

1) Are we really doing transsexuals a favor by pretending they can change into another gender and allowing them to mutilate themselves via surgery or are we actually setting them up for failure when we pretend that they’re not mentally ill?

2) Couldn’t you make just as good an argument that America is a matriarchy as a patriarchy? Life expectancy for women is 79 in the United States while it’s 72 for men. Men are expected to pay for everything on dates. Men are required to sign up for the draft; women are not. Divorce courts are notoriously stacked against men. Fifty six percent of college students are female and only 44% are male. In the United States, 78.8% of murder victims are male. In 2015, men suffered 93% of the workplace fatalities. In other words, if you want to claim one gender is at an advantage or disadvantage in the United States, doesn’t it almost entirely depend upon what factors you pay attention to and what factors you ignore?

12 Horrible Messages Hollywood Sends to Americans

1. If You’re Not Having Sex Right This Second, You Are a Loser

When all the winners on the screen that you’re supposed to root for are having sex the way most of us are shaking hands, it makes a lot of people in the real world think they should be doing the same thing. Couldn’t they show James Bond’s shaken expression as a doctor informs him he’s contracted syphilis or something?

2. The Key to Success Is Being Born Special or Being Handed a Gift
You know, like Harry Potter, Luke Skywalker, eeee, Superman, and nearly every other superhero. That’s just the message teenagers — who typically aren’t good at much of anything yet, other than playing video games and failing to prepare for tests — need to hear.

The Ignorant Parkland Kids Don’t Speak for Their Dead Classmates

It’s incredibly annoying to be lectured to by high school kids because the fact of the matter is that very few of them know anything about anything. Why would they? They’re kids. Somebody else feeds them, puts a roof over their heads and pays their bills. This is nothing to be ashamed of for a teen. I was just like that; so were you and so was just about everyone else. In fact, it’s almost universal once you get past a very small subset of humanity like Alexander the Great and Annie Oakley. That lack of knowledge wouldn’t be a problem at all except when it’s combined with today’s “We’ve got to pump up their self-esteem at all costs” culture along with manipulative adults looking to use kids for their own purposes. This is how you end up with a kid like David Hogg saying something as ignorant and arrogant as this:

The Outline described Hogg as “mad as hell” and when they asked him about why he and his fellow students were the ones pushing gun control laws, he said it’s because their parents “don’t know how to use a f**king democracy.”

“It’s like when your old-a** parents are like, ‘I don’t know how to send an iMessage,’ and you’re just like, ‘Give me the f**king phone’ and you take it and you’re like, ‘OK, let me handle it,’ and you get it done in one second,” Hogg said. “Sadly, that’s what we have to do with our government because our parents don’t know how to use a f**king democracy, so we have to.”

Yes, all the adults are idiots, so the world needs the towering wisdom of 17-year-old David Hogg to explain how it should all work. Is David Hogg even smart enough to know that he’s a sock puppet? After all, he has no new insight on this problem. He has no great wisdom to share. Many of his own classmates don’t agree with his viewpoint. But, Hogg has adults with an agenda telling him what to say and adults in the media who put him on TV and treat him with kid gloves because they want him to parrot their beliefs about guns. He and the other Parkland kids you see on TV are put there to be human shields for gun control advocates. They tell the sock puppets what to say, but no one’s supposed to respond because they speak for those dead kids. But, do they? Really?

GMO Yeast Mimics Flavors Of Hops, But Will Craft Brewers Bite?

Brewing beer, it is often said, is both an art and a science. New research, however, has some in the beer industry concerned that the science of brewing could be advancing too far.

A team of beer-brewing chemists and geneticists in California has created a genetically modified yeast that produces hoppy aromas and flavors without any interaction with the fragrant blossoms themselves. In other words, they've developed a way to make beer hoppy without using hops.

Brewer Matthew Brynildson feels the research, which was published March 20 in the journal Nature Communications, opens doors that he would just as well see remain closed.

"Craft brewing has always been a GMO-free art form — it was just assumed that we would never cross that line," says Brynildson, who has made beer at Firestone Walker Brewing Co. in central California for 17 years. "If we allow in GMO yeast, well, I could think of a hundred more things that I do or don't want my yeast to do."

DNA Test Reveals Fertility Doctor Used His Own Sperm To Impregnate Patient

When people send away samples for DNA testing they're often hoping the results can help them trace the lineage of their families over centuries and across continents. But when Kelli Rowlette received her results from Ancestry.com she discovered a much closer connection — about 500 miles away from where she lives — dating back to May 20, 1981. Her own birthday.

The results showed Rowlette's biological father was not the man she'd always known, but a stranger named Gerald Mortimer. A man she later found out had been her parents' fertility doctor and had impregnated her mother with his own sperm without her mother's knowledge or consent.

Last week Rowlette filed a lawsuit in U. S. District Court in Idaho against Mortimer, his wife Linda McKinnon Mortimer and Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates of Idaho Falls, seeking $10 million in damages for fraud, medical negligence, battery and several other charges related to the alleged deception.

Great Depression 2.0? Worst Q2 start for US stocks since 1929

This was only ever worse 89 years ago

American stocks saw the worst start in April since the Great Depression, as Chinese retaliatory tariffs spooked investors in the world’s largest economy.

The S&P 500 index fell 2.2 percent after the first trading session in the second quarter. This was only ever worse 89 years ago, when it fell by 2.5 percent. Back then, it was a selloff that triggered the Great Depression – the worst economic crisis in US history.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 1.9 percent, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite index plummeted 2.74 percent. One of the largest companies listed on the Nasdaq, Amazon, extended its losses following attacks on the firm by President Donald Trump, shedding more than five percent of its value.

Study Warns Eating Out Can Increase Phthalates, Lead To Disease

‘Pregnant women, children and teens are more vulnerable to the toxic effects of hormone-disrupting chemicals’

Eating out at restaurants and fast food chains may be convenient but a new study suggests it comes with risks, including increased exposure to a potentially harmful chemical called phthalates.

Researchers looked at data collected between 2005 and 2014 as part of the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and discovered that subjects who had recently eaten food from a fast food restaurant had levels of phthalates 35 percent higher than those who ate at home.

In total, the scientists examined the results of 10,253 participants. Sixty-one percent of the group replied in the survey that they had eaten out within the previous 24 hours, and the majority of those respondents showed an increased level of phthalate biomarkers when their urine was tested.

Party Directive Reveals Increased Chinese Theft of U.S. Technology

China's Communist Party recently authorized an aggressive program of stealing U.S. science and technology information by recruiting Americans in the tech sector with access to trade secrets, according to an internal Party directive.

The directive outlines a secret program authorized by the general office of the Communist Party of China (CCP) Central Committee of stepped up technology collection beginning in late 2016 and carried out by an intelligence unit called the United Front Work Department.

The classified document reveals that China's ruling Communist Party regards the United States as a "hostile" power that is blocking China's development by denying access to cutting edge American technology.

China's systematic theft of American technology is also being carried out with the aim of subverting U.S. and western nations, according to the document.

"This is proof China is aggressively subverting America and stealing technology through espionage," said a person familiar with the plan.

IRS tax return audit rate lowest in 15 years

Critics cheers news after agency’s years of excesses, including the targeting tea party groups

The IRS is auditing fewer tax returns than at any other time in the past 15 years as the agency struggles with what it says is a shrinking budget and pressure from Congress to be less zealous in enforcement.

Just six out of every 1,000 individual taxpayers faced an audit last year, the government said in the latest IRS Data Book released last week, marking the lowest rate since 2002.

Analysts said that is unlikely to change this year, as the April 17 deadline for this year’s filing season nears and as the IRS grapples with endemic budget cuts and the strain of having to administer the new tax law.

Some taxpayer advocates cheered the news, saying it’s time the IRS was brought to heel after years of excesses, including targeting tea party groups for illegal scrutiny and making tax-filing season tougher than it had to be as a protest against budget cuts.

“It should be a healthy sign if they’re auditing less,” said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. “I would very much like to live in a world where the IRS doesn’t have to do too much auditing because the tax code is simple enough for people to understand.”

Five Drugs You Should Never Mix With Certain Foods

You know that foods like kale and grapefruit are good for you. But if you’re taking certain medications these so-called healthy foods can actually trigger harmful reactions. In fact, when you mix certain foods with medications the interaction can be deadly.

Noted physician Dr. Pat Salber, the founder and editor-in-chief of The Doctor Weighs In Website, tells Newsmax Health about one example she experienced firsthand when she was working in the ER.

“I got a call from a patient who said she was on an MAO inhibitor for depression and had eaten a portion of aged cheese earlier in the evening,” Salber recalls.

“She was feeling a bit funny and wondered if she should come in to be checked.

"Recognizing a potentially very dangerous food reaction, we sent an ambulance but sadly, she had a hypertensive crisis and suffered a fatal stroke before they arrived.”

South African Convicted of Murdering Four Children to Sell Ears to Witch Doctor

A judge in South Africa sentenced a man to four life sentences in prison on Tuesday for the murder of his nieces and nephews – whose ears, he confessed, he planned to sell at a high price to a witch doctor for use in potions.

Southern African countries have spent much of the last decade fighting violence fueled by witch doctor, or traditional herbalist, demands for body parts to use in their ceremonies and potions. In nations like Tanzania and Malawi, the body parts of albino people can fetch as much as $75,000 for a whole body, according to United Nations studies. Tanzania has thelargest albino population on the continent.

In South Africa, 32-year-old Ben Zimele Mbhele pleaded guilty to killing his two nieces and two nephews, aged between four and 12, last year after meeting a man who told him that the children’s ears would sell at a high price to a witch doctor that he knew. Mbhele reportedly told police initially that he had to kill the children because they “were haunting him and that it was a satanic act,” according to South Africa’s the Times. His story changed when the court found that Mbhele took out a life insurance policy on the four children shortly before they were found dead, and collected 60,000 South African rand (about $5,000) total on the four children.

White House to Send Congress Immigration Reforms Aimed at Closing ‘Loopholes’

The Trump administration is drafting another immigration package to send to Congress but would not confirm whether it would include a fix for recipients of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals programs, which provides legal protections for immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children.

"Our focus right now has to be on closing these loopholes once and for all," a senior administration official told reporters on a conference call Monday.

Several officials on the call warned of a rising influx of illegal immigrants and unaccompanied children coming from Central America in recent months and the life-threatening dangers associated with their journeys. They also complained that Congress's inaction is preventing federal authorities from taking more effective to actions to stop it.

Homebuyers feel duped by hot water tank rentals included in their new homes

New Ontario law fails to address buyers of new builds who are locked into equipment contracts

Nadia Mendola didn't think she'd be signing her life away for a water heater when she bought her brand new home in Waterdown, Ont., in 2016.

She's stuck with a 14-year rental contract with Enercare, paying $56.43 per month for the water heater. Now she can't get out of it unless she buys the equipment outright at $3,600 — three times the cost of an average water heater.

"If you can buy it from Home Depot for $1,000, I just don't understand why you would go renting it."

Enercare said the model in Mendola's home is much more efficient than the model that could be purchased at a retailer for that amount, and adds that the $1,000 figure doesn't include the cost of installation, which can add an additional $400 to the price.

They became one of America's most corrupt police force, and their entire world came crashing down due to one rogue GPS tracker, according to the BBC.

Alexander: Who Killed MLK's Dream?

50 years ago, April 4, 1968, 39-year-old Martin Luther King Jr. was murdered in Memphis, Tennessee, by a racist sociopath from Alton, Illinois, named James Earl Ray.

The night before his death, King preached at the Mason Temple, headquarters of the Church of God in Christ. Having been warned of threats against him, he prophetically declared:

“I don’t know what will happen now. We’ve got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn’t matter with me now. Because I’ve been to the mountaintop. And I don’t mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I’m not concerned about that now. I just want to do God’s will. And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I’ve looked over. And I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. So I’m happy, tonight. I’m not worried about anything. I’m not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”

Dr. Gary S. Smith, emeritus chairman of Grove City College’s history department, observed that King’s “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” sermon “ranks with John Winthrop’s ‘A Model of Christian Charity’ and Jonathan Edwards’ ‘Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God’ as among America’s most famous.”

King’s pastoral influence in that era was rivaled only by his friend Billy Graham.

That fateful day in 1968 was a Thursday, and King was killed around 6:00 in the evening. On Friday, Dr. King’s wife, Coretta Scott King, and three of her children, joined by faith leaders and thousands of citizens, marched in Memphis to support King’s work.

Illegals say Trump's tough talk won't deter them

On Tuesday, the same day that U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to deploy military to help patrol the U.S.-Mexico border, Edwin Valdez and four other Central American migrants were walking through dense brush at a south Texas wildlife reserve, hoping to escape notice.

The men had illegally crossed into the United States that morning, guided by a smuggler who had since abandoned them. Now they were lost and uncertain how to proceed.

In vehicles nearby, U.S. Border Patrol agents had been alerted to migrants moving through the area, and after detecting movement in the bushes, they swooped in to arrest the men.

In just a few hours that morning, 61 migrants, including Valdez, were rounded up in the area. Ten, including four from China, were caught with the help of a tracking dog in a sugar cane field. Two Hondurans were taken into custody at a public park.

Several of those caught said they were unfazed by tough talk from Trump, who has made headlines around the world with tweets railing about border security and threatening to end the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) unless Mexico does more to "stop the big drug and people flows."

Three out of every four millennials in the United States are in debt

Three in every four Americans aged between 18 and 34 are in some form of debt, a new poll has revealed.

A quarter of millennials in the US are in $30,000 of debt or more, while 11 per cent are more than $100,000 in the red.

Only 22 per cent of people in the age group, meanwhile, have no debt - and only 24 per cent have more cash in their bank account than they owe.

The result, according to the findings of the NBC News/GenForward poll, is that millennials are increasingly likely to put off major steps in life.

Among those steps is owning a home, which 34 per cent of the age group said they hold off on because of debt.

Another is saving for retirement, which 31 per cent said they delay because of cash they owe.

Associated Press Pushes Soros Propaganda as News, Days Before Hungarian Election

Days ahead of the Hungary’s national election, the Associated Press (AP) has published an article slamming Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as “far-right”, citing “experts” from foundations funded by left-wing billionaire George Soros.

The article, entitled, “Far-right views going mainstream in much of Central Europe”, claims that many countries in Central Europe, including Hungary and Poland, are championing “taboo” views.

The authors of the piece cite Tom Junes, a historian with the Human and Social Studies Foundation in Sofia, Bulgaria, who said: “There is something broader going on in the region which has produced a patriotic, nativist, conservative discourse through which far-right ideas managed to become mainstream.”

Later, the Hungarian government campaign against the influence of pro-mass migration NGOs funded by Hungarian-born Soros is referred to as, “demonizing the financier and philanthropist”, and “falsely portraying the Hungarian-born Holocaust survivor as an advocate of uncontrolled immigration into Europe”.

Secretary Ben Carson on Illegals: HUD Is ‘Going to Cooperate Very Much with the Justice Department’

Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Dr. Ben Carson told Breitbart News it is his aim to ensure federal contracting jobs and other economic opportunities go to “our people” and that his agency will cooperate “very much” with the Department of Justice to enforce the U.S.’s immigration laws.

In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News on Monday, Carson explained it is past time for American citizens — “our people,” he said — to reap the full benefits of HUD projects.

“What we want to do, obviously, is empower people – that’s a major goal that we have – our people, American citizens. Our programs are aimed at that,” said the secretary.

“Our tremendous emphasis on [the] Section 3 [program], for example – which has been on the books for 50 years – [which says] if you are receiving HUD money you have an obligation to hire people of low income in that area or to train them or to give contracts to them. It’s been largely ignored.”

“We are putting incentives into that to make sure that it is used to develop OUR people,” Carson added.

A Viewer Writes: WHY WASN'T A WARRANT ISSUED TO INSPECT THE HORSE FARM?

Joe,

I "stumbled" across this News on the Internet and found its' strong 'similarity to the Horse Farm incident. You will note this abuse of farm animals took place in MD & a warrant was issued by the Humane Society ,who'd received numerous calls. Thank God for people calling in to report and the Humane Society getting them help or many more of these animals would have starved to death.

After reading this and even before I read this--my question is --Why could the Sheriffs Dept . not have done the same thing and issued a warrant to go on the Pilchard's property? The Sheriff Dept. , knowing of past abuse to cats and horses there before and the continuation of calls from neighbors of the animals getting out to eat grass was enough for them to respond and Search the premises.
I believe this was a horrific lack of responsibility on "their part !"

BOONSBORO, Md. (WJZ) — A horrible case of alleged animal cruelty uncovered at a Maryland farm. Officials seize nearly 100 animals they say were malnourished and neglected.
Rick Ritter has more on this disturbing case.
Officials at the Humane Society say the property owner faces more than 300 animal cruelty charges and call the conditions the worst they’ve ever seen.
Ribs showing, mucky water left to drink and bones scattered across fields–just some of the disturbing pictures from an alleged animal cruelty case.
“I actually felt like I was watching something off a TV,” said Crystal Mowery, field service officer, Humane Society.
This is One that’s raising eyebrows across the state.
“I have 25 years in the field of animal welfare and this was devastating,” said Kimberley Intino, chief executive officer, Humane Society.
After numerous calls and a tip, the Washington County Humane Society served a search warrant at 60-year-old Daniel Rohrer Jr.’s farm.
Charging documents describe “dire conditions,” stating animals were spotted dead as soon as officers entered the barn.
“I specifically asked about the dead carcasses. Their comment was they lay where they die,” Mowery said.
Bones and decomposing animals in various stages were scattered throughout. Goats and sheep found with severely overgrown hooves.
Outside, there was no food for the animals. Officer Mowery says pictures shed only a glimpse before they seized cows, sheep and goats–95 total.
“There was manure and feces everywhere,” said Mowery.
WJZ got in touch with the defendant’s attorney, who says her client disputes all charges.
“Regardless of whether he has animals as pets or food animals ,the Law requires that you treat themproperly,” said Intino.
“The Humane Society has already invested a lot of money into taking care of these animals and we still have a few months before criminal trial. We are appealing to the community for any donations so we can continue this work and help these animals and the over 6,000 animals that come through our doors over the year,” Intino said.

All of the animals seized were moved to local foster farms

Thank God Its Friday 4-6-18

Bad News and Good News

Bad news and good news. Bad news first - the General Assembly has overridden Governor Hogan’s veto of The Backroom Bill along partisan lines. And oversight of Maryland’s Public School Construction Program will now fall to unelected political insiders who gather in virtual privacy, with no public scrutiny.

The big winners are Mike Miller, Mike Busch and their well-connected cronies. The big losers are public school families and teachers, Maryland taxpayers who deserve accountability for how their money is spent, and everyone who values open, transparent government.

The good news? The primary elections are coming. Saddle up. #ForThePeople

Hogan Administration Urges EPA to Drop Plan to Weaken Vehicle Air Pollution Emissions

Governor Calls on Federal Agency to Leave Current Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards in Place

ANNAPOLIS, MD –
Due to the known effects of increased air pollution on public health and the environment, as well as the potential for higher costs to consumers, Governor Larry Hogan is calling on federal environmental regulators to drop plans to weaken vehicle emissions standards. The Hogan administration is urging the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to leave the current greenhouse gas emissions standards for light-duty vehicles in place and to allow states like Maryland to continue to adopt vehicle emissions standards that are more protective than federal standards.

“Maryland has made significant progress in improving our air quality in recent years, and we are a leader in fighting the effects of climate change. That progress would be jeopardized by any weakening of vehicle emissions standards,” said Governor Hogan. “We strongly urge the EPA to drop their plans to weaken vehicle emissions standards, and we call on the agency to allow our state to continue to adopt strong standards to protect the air that Marylanders breathe.”

“Maryland is a recognized leader in fighting the effects of climate change, and the Hogan administration opposes efforts to weaken our forward progress on clean cars and a healthy environment,” said Maryland Environment Secretary Ben Grumbles. “We will use the law and other tools to block rollbacks. EPA should be supporting state and regional actions to cut greenhouse gases and interstate smog.”

Maryland’s opposition to EPA’s announced decision to move toward weakening national greenhouse gas emissions standards for model year 2022-2025 light-duty vehicles was expressed in a multi-state letter sent this week to the federal agency. Secretary Grumbles was among the state environmental officers who signed that letter, which strongly urges EPA to leave the current greenhouse gas emissions standards in place. The letter also calls for EPA to allow states such as Maryland to continue to adopt their own vehicle emissions standards under a provision of the federal Clean Air Act.

The current emissions standards were established through a technical analysis by the federal government, states, and the automotive industry, which supported the standards when adopted in 2012. The current standards are designed to offer manufacturers the flexibility to build vehicles to meet consumer demand while still meeting environmental standards.
