Ocean City Police Investigating Pedestrian Collision

OCEAN CITY, MD – The Ocean City Police Department Traffic Safety Unit is currently investigating a pedestrian collision involving a marked Ocean City Police patrol vehicle that occurred on September 29, 2017, at approximately 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of 56th Street and Coastal Highway.

The pedestrian, a 26-year-old male of Connecticut, was treated for his injuries on scene and flown to Peninsula Regional Medical Center via Maryland State Police Trooper 4 helicopter. He was released from the hospital later that evening with minor injuries.

The preliminary investigation shows that the Ocean City Police officer was driving east on 56th Street and made a left turn onto northbound Coastal Highway before striking the pedestrian. At the time of the collision, the Police SUV had a green light and the pedestrian was legally in the crosswalk.

The investigation is on-going at this time. The identity of the pedestrian and the police officer involved will not be released at this time.

Can Salisbury Survive Without Wicomico?

By Thornton Crowe

Or should the question be: Why should Salisbury residents even bother to try?

In an article last week, it was revealed Mayor Jake Day has now formally divorced Salisbury from the County in a sweeping proposal for massive hirings Salisbury cannot afford, along with putting more duplicity (in every sense of the word) in our local government. Considering City residents already pay Wicomico County taxes, why should citizens be deprived of services because some can't play well in the proverbial sandbox?

In our country, we have a governmental order that's fairly simple to follow. Much like our legal structure it goes as follows: County government over City; State over County and Federal over State.

It's the way our government was established and unfortunately, no matter how much some try to eradicate this order, it is ultimately doomed to fail. Yet, here we are, stuck with some default Don Quixote trying to rage against a pecking order which has sustained the better part of two centuries.

Inevitably, the City voters will pay a hefty price as their taxes (along with fines and fees) continue upward to finance this menagerie, while services will continue to spiral downward. As we've seen many times as of late, this default existence only continues the City's mismanagement and political folly instead of providing good governance and true leadership.

Has the time come for the State to consider terminating Salisbury's charter altogether in order to right this ship? Historically, other municipalities have experienced this type of reorganization albeit for much different reasons; therefore, its contemplation is not out of the realm of possibilities or without merit.

In reality, folks, what we have here is a classic example of taxation without representation, which goes against the societal and judicial grain of our country's foundation. Being that we seem to lack options here, could it be time for higher powers to quash this quasi-dictatorship that Salisbury received not by a authentic electoral process, but by default?

How say you?

Former Army Ranger Is Only Steelers Player To Stand For National Anthem

The entire Pittsburgh Steelers team remained in the locker room during the national anthem, with the exception of one player: Army veteran Alejandro Villanueva, who plays offensive tackle for the Steelers.

While the rest of his teammates remained in the locker room, Villanueva stood in the tunnel holding his helmet in his left hand and holding his right hand over his heart as the anthem played.

It’s Shocking How Empty The Stadium Was For Thursday Night Football

The San Francisco 49ers Thursday night game against the Los Angeles Rams kicked off in front of a nearly empty stadium.

Los Angeles Times reporter Lindsey Thiry tweeted a photo at the time of kickoff, which showed thousands of open seats. In fact, most sections in the photo have more empty seats than fans.

ESPN’s Darren Rovell reported that 63,500 tickets had been sold for the game, but of course, simply selling a ticket doesn’t mean the buyer will actually show up to the game.

Oh My, Graffiti Found In Downtown Salisbury

When employees arrived to work this morning they were subjected to seeing graffiti in CHALK throughout the GOB and old Court House. With all the cameras around down there this should be a no brainer. However, since Sheriff Mike Lewis just happened to be in town and not out on one of his training seminars to crack the case.

The County is praying for rain to make these painful messages go away. Salisbury paid firefighters refused to respond and wash off the walkways as this is beyond their call for duty. Mayor Day was seen with a ticket book hiding behind a tree in the No Smoking area waiting for county volunteers to park illegally.

NFL Ratings Tank – Worst Viewership In Nearly Two Decades

NFL ratings are in an absolute free fall after week two of the season.

Viewership for the league is down to its lowest point since 1998, according to Sports Media Watch.

From Sports Media Watch:

The Week 2 NFL singleheader window delivered an 8.4 rating and 14.5 million viewers on CBS Sunday, down 24% in ratings and viewership from last year on FOX (11.0, 19.2M) and down 14% and 13% respectively from 2015 on CBS (9.8, 16.7M).

The 8.4 rating is the lowest for the Week 2 singleheader since at least 1998. The first two NFL windows on CBS this season have both declined double-digits to multi-year lows.

President Dudley-Eshbach Announces She Is Stepping Down June 30

SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Janet Dudley-Eshbach, the president of Salisbury University, today announced her decision to step down effective June 30, 2018.

Dudley-Eshbach was appointed SU’s eighth president in 2000, the first woman to hold the office. She is the University System of Maryland’s longest-serving female president and is the second longest-tenured president in SU history.

“I first knew Janet when I was President of Towson University,” said USM Chancellor Robert Caret. “She was (and still is) a fierce champion for Salisbury University. Her energy, passion, intelligence and humor marked her as someone whose voice would be heard. When I returned as Chancellor, those aspects of her character had not changed, but she also can speak eloquently about the significance of public universities everywhere, particularly their missions to help all students and educate an informed public. She has made higher education her life, and SU, the University System of Maryland, and the citizens of Maryland, are better for it.”

“Change is good, for institutions and individuals,” Dudley-Eshbach said in a letter to campus. “Eighteen years is a long tenure for any university president, especially in today’s world.

“On reflection, I am immensely grateful to everyone associated with Salisbury University. We’ve accomplished so very much together, and my own successes would not have been possible without the support and dedication of thousands of staff, faculty, students, alumni, donors and members of SU’s many affiliated boards.

“I have wanted to time my decision in a way that fits the internal needs of the University,” she said. “I will not be retiring, but looking forward to new opportunities.”

In an agreement with the USM chancellor and regents, she will serve as a special advisor to the University during a sabbatical year which begins July 1, 2018, assisting her successor with transitional matters, supporting fundraising efforts and engaging in special projects, “so long as these activities do not interfere with the primary purpose of my sabbatical,” she added, “which is preparation to resume service as an active member of the faculty beginning the 2019-20 academic year.

“I am greatly looking forward to returning to my first love – teaching, mentoring students, and scholarship. I also hope to make more time for family, music, reading and other interests.” The president is bilingual and said “I wish to be involved in community service activities and would like to work with our region’s Spanish-speaking community, particularly those who may need help with English language skills.”

FROM A VIEWER---GOLDEN CORRAL

A Viewers Positive Response

We have been going to Golden Corral for several years and have read, on this site the negative comments about the restaurant.

Yes, at that time Golden Corral had been steadily going "downhill"
enough so that my family had decided we would stop going there if
things continued down that spiral path.

They now have a New Manager and we have been amazed to watch
what Mark is doing ! He has such a positive , upbeat personality,
with his staff and the customers, going out of his way to make certain people are treated kindly and have good service and good food. He is "weeding" out those who don't care about their jobs, replacing with those who do. That does take time and he will succeed. If there's a problem , you can go to him and he will take care of the matter . He knows how to deal with "things" in a timely manner and is always respectful. He's introduced newer items to the buffet and works non stop with a caring positive attitude.

We've been privileged to meet some very nice customers while there, and have enjoyed many of the servers , some who've been there for several years. We're pleased with the food now and will continue to visit.

Once a place of business has started to fail it's quite hard and sometimes impossible to "build it back." I watch this young Manager working so diligently to bring the Restaurant up to higher expectations from it's past and hate to think people would not give them another try due to past negative remarks and not knowing there has been the Change in Management.

I've nothing to gain from writing this however I do hope those who might have heard negative comments or at one time had a bad experience there, go back and try it again. We stayed and we're glad we did!

Our thanks to you Mark for helping to bring back what is almost a "Lost Art" in this day and time . Respect, Kindness , Wonderful work ethics, and a Great Sense of Responsibility to do what's right.

Respectfully,

A Customer

A’s Bruce Maxwell first MLB player to kneel for anthem

A’s rookie catcher Bruce Maxwell, who earlier in the day profanely bashed President Trump on Instagram, became the first major-league player to kneel during the national anthem on Saturday before Oakland’s 1-0 win at the Coliseum.

“My decision had been coming for a long time,” Maxwell said, citing his own experiences with racism while growing up in Huntsville, Ala., which is where Trump on Friday made disparaging comments about NFL players who choose to kneel for the anthem. “The only way we can come together is by informing. ... To single out NFL players for doing this isn’t something we should be doing — I felt it should be a little more broad.”

IS DIVERSITY TEARING THE UNITED STATES APART?

America is experiencing a diversity and inclusion conundrum—which, in historical terms, has not necessarily been a good thing.

Communities are tearing themselves apart over the statues of long-dead Confederate generals.

Controversy rages over which slogan—“Black Lives Matter” or “All Lives Matter”—is truly racist.

Antifa street thugs clash with white supremacists in a major American city.

Americans argue over whether the USC equine mascot “Traveler” is racist, given the resemblance of the horse’s name to Robert E. Lee’s mount “Traveller.”

Amid all this turmoil, we forget that diversity was always considered a liability in the history of nations—not an asset.

Ancient Greece’s numerous enemies eventually overran the 1,500 city-states because the Greeks were never able to sublimate their parochial, tribal, and ethnic differences to unify under a common Hellenism.

Odell Beckham penalized for peeing

Pissing it away.

Odell Beckham Jr. caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Eli Manning early in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game in Philadelphia and drew an unsportsmanlike penalty for his odd celebration, before the Giants would fall in a heartbreaker, 27-24. The Giants are now an unthinkable 0-3.

Beckham, down on all fours, took a few steps and then lifted his right leg in the air, imitating a dog urinating. The score cut the deficit to 14-7. Beckham later caught another TD pass from Manning.
