SEARCH UNDERWAY FOR SUSPECT IN ASSAULT ON POLICE IN SALISBURY

(SALISBURY, MD) – State, county and city police are searching tonight for a wanted suspect who fled from police trying to arrest him and injured two police officers during his getaway.

Police are searching for Edwin Fletcher, 31. He is described as an African American male, 6’2” tall, 160 lbs. A search is underway in the Salisbury area. Police are using K-9 dogs and a State Police helicopter, in addition to police on foot and in cars.

Details are still preliminary. At this time, known information is that shortly after 8:00 p.m. today, a task force team of Maryland State Police, Salisbury Police and Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office personnel were working an undercover investigation attempting to locate Fletcher, who is wanted on a warrant for drug felony charges.

Police observed the suspect pulling into a parking lot off Market Street in Salisbury. The suspect was driving a Dodge Ram pickup and had another person in the truck with him. Police pulled in to surround the truck and attempt an arrest of the suspect. They activated emergency police lights and some officers got out of their cars identifying themselves verbally and with badges, while wearing jackets that said POLICE.

Instead of surrendering, the suspect driver, believed to be Fletcher, immediately accelerated the truck rammed head on into a trooper’s car. He then accelerated again and drove up onto and over the troopers car while the trooper was inside, injuring the trooper. In fear for the trooper’s life, police officers on the scene fired at the suspect driver as he was driving over the trooper’s car.

After driving over the police car, the suspect left the parking lot and fled the area. A short time later, police found the pickup truck abandoned on Camden Avenue.

A sheriff’s deputy was also injured in the incident, but how his injuries were sustained is not clear at this time. Both the trooper and deputy were transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where they are being treated.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is on the scene and conducting an investigation into the police involved shooting. There is no indication at this time the suspect was struck by police gunfire. No police officers were injured by gunshots.

The investigation is continuing. Additional information will be provided tomorrow after it becomes available through further investigation.

Different Types Of Graveyards

1. Aircraft Boneyard , USA

The 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) often called The Boneyard is located near Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson , Arizona . For those of you that have never seen it, it's difficult to comprehend the size of it.
The number of aircraft stored there and the precision in the way they are parked is impressive. Another important fact is that they are all capable of being returned to service if the need ever arises.

3 sentences that will help in your voting

These three, short sentences tell you a lot about the direction of our current government and cultural environment:

1. We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. Funny how that works.
And here’s another one worth considering.

2. Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money. How come we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money? What's interesting is the first group "worked for" their money, but the second didn't.
Think about it..... Last but not least

3. Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our military and cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII, but we are not stopping the payments to illegal aliens. This is what illegal’s receive monthly, $1500.00 per child, $500 for housing, Food Stamps, and in some States, Free education including college.
Am I the only one missing something?

Former WH Aide Spills the Beans on What It’s Like to Work for Michelle Obama

Working in first lady Michelle Obama’s office turned into a “confining, frustrating, even miserable place to work,” a former White House aide claims in a New Republic article.

Reid Cherlin, former White House assistant press secretary, is calling the first lady’s East Wing the “worst wing” and describing Michelle Obama as demanding and hard to please.

“Perhaps no first lady in recent memory has entered the stately recesses of the East Wing under a higher burden of expectation than Michelle Obama,” Cherlin writes.

Tiny Walmart Proliferation Continues With “Walmart To Go” Convenience Store

Since 2011, we’ve followed the proliferation of tiny Walmarts across America (well, mostly Arkansas) as they fan out and threaten to take over our retailscape like the splinters that grew into enchanted brooms in the “Sorceror’s Apprentice” section of Disney’s “Fantasia.” In the chain’s hometown of Bentonville, Arkansas, they’re experimenting with yet another new store format: the “Walmart To Go” convenience store, complete with gas pumps and a deli counter.

“Walmart To Go” is already a thing, and that name meant something else the last time we checked. That’s the company’s name for its online grocery ordering and delivery service, currently being tested in a few markets. Admittedly, it makes more sense for a gas station format, but the matching names indicate that one of these brands will never go national. Maybe neither ever will.

Most Uninsured Aren't Aware Of ACA Deadline

Americans have only a few days left to sign up on the Obamacare exchanges, yet most of the uninsured don't know the deadline.

Six in 10 uninsured adults are not aware that open enrollment ends March 31, according to a Kaiser Family Foundation tracking poll released Wednesday. Half of the uninsured surveyed said they will remain without coverage this year.

The survey results show that the massive outreach campaign undertaken by the Obama administration and its allies have not penetrated through the ranks of the American public.

Nissan Recalls More Than 1M Vehicles For Air Bags

Nissan is recalling just over 1 million cars, SUVs and vans because the front passenger air bags may not inflate in a crash. It's the company's second recall to fix the same problem.

The recall affects the Altima midsize car, Leaf electric car, Pathfinder SUV and Sentra compact models from the 2013 and 2014 model years, as well as the NV200 Taxi van and Infiniti JX35 SUV from 2013. Also covered are the Infiniti QX60 and Q50 SUVs from 2014.

In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Nissan says the vehicles' computer software may not detect an adult in the passenger seat. If that happens, the air bags won't inflate.

Conundrums

The six contradictions of socialism in the United States of America:

1. America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized.

2. Half of the population is subsidized - yet they think they are victims.

3. They think they are victims - yet their representatives run the government.

4. Their representatives run the government - yet the poor keep getting poorer.

5. The poor keep getting poorer - yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.

6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about - yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

And that, my friends, pretty much sums up Obama’s USA in the 21st Century

McCormick Explores Relocating Corporate Headquarters From Sparks

Spice giant McCormick & Co. Inc. is considering moving its corporate headquarters from Sparks in northern Baltimore County to combine administrative functions in a single site elsewhere in Maryland or southern Pennsylvania, the company said Wednesday.

"It's about consolidating the administrative buildings in Hunt Valley," said Jim Lynn, a company spokesman. "We're in the early stages of a long term, multi-year project… to develop a more effective workplace. Our primary objectives are to increase employee collaboration, engagement and efficiency in a more open and centralized location."

The spice maker, which employs about 2,400 people in the state, houses its administrative offices in four buildings, including the headquarters at 18 Loveton Circle in Sparks and three buildings nearby on Schilling Circle in Hunt Valley. Those buildings also house the U.S. consumer products division, a wellness center and employment center and the U.S. industrial group.

David Craig and Jeannie Haddaway on State Budget

As the O’Malley – Brown budget is being considered in the House of the General Assembly, Harford County Executive David Craig and Jeannie Haddaway released the following joint statement:

“Maryland’s budget has increased from $29 billion in actual spending in 2007 to $40 billion proposed for fiscal year 2015, a spending increase of 36% over seven years.

“We must re-think the proper role of government in Maryland. Are we really better off with 80 tax, fee and toll increases than we were just seven years ago? Are the schools better, are the roads better, and are we better able to obtain health care or keep neighborhoods safer in 2014 compared to 2007? How is it possible that there is still a deficit in the budget after repeated promises that taxes would be the solution? It can only be attributed to mismanagement and lack of leadership.

“The results of no leadership are in. Rather than grow government, we will increase people’s take home pay and spur job creation by eventually eliminating the state’s income tax. In order to do that, we need a sound plan to stop ever-increasing spending.

"We commend the House Republican caucus for offering an alternative budget that reduces O’Malley’s spending by 3% yet still allows for a 1% increase over last year’s budget. It is a reasonable and responsible approach – especially given the recent revenue write downs.

"Year after year the Republican Caucus has offered viable alternatives - if these alternatives had been adopted we would not have found ourselves in this fiscal mess, and with a tax code that punishes everyone far more than the vast majority of other states in the nation."

Obamacare to Register up to 4 Million New Voters in California

Covered California, the Golden State's troubled Obamacare exchange, will mail 4 million voter registration cards to residents who have enrolled in health insurance plans (largely Medicaid), the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The state Obamacare exchange was not initially registering voters, but took steps to do so after facing lawsuits from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the League of Women Voters, and others.

Voter integrity activists have previously raised objections to the use of Obamacare to register voters. The White House has defended the practice on the grounds that the 1993 National Voter Registration Act requires states to offer people the opportunity to register to vote when applying for public services. It is not clear whether the Obamacare exchanges, which are meant to facilitate private insurance transactions, qualify under the law.

They will let carriers access and send data on Postal Service networks. They also work as phones, letting the agency replace outdated scanning equipment and mail carriers' cell phones. About 75,000 city mail carriers will get the scanners this fall. Others will get them next year. They could help the agency compete for e-commerce against rivals Fed Ex and UPS.

Secret Service Agents On Obama Detail Sent Home From Netherlands After Night Of Drinking

Three Secret Service agents responsible for protecting President Obama in Amsterdam this week were sent home and put on administrative leave Sunday after going out for a night of drinking, according to three people familiar with the incident. One of the agents was found drunk and passed out in a hotel hallway, the people said.

The hotel staff alerted the U.S. Embassy in the Netherlands after finding the unconscious agent Sunday morning, a day before Obama arrived in the country, according to two of the people. The embassy then alerted Secret Service managers on the presidential trip, which included the agency’s director, Julia Pierson.

Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan confirmed Tuesday evening that the agency “did send three employees home for disciplinary reasons” and that they were put on administrative leave pending an investigation. Donovan declined to comment further.

Instead, the Obama administration will propose Congress overhaul the electronic surveillance program. That proposal is expected this week, according to anonymous sources speaking to the New York Times.

Auditors found the software needed to fly the plane and give it warfighting capabilities are unlikely before the planned deployment next year.

Freedom for 2nd amendment

Barack Obama, World’s Greatest Gun Salesman

The United States is the most heavily armed nation in world history, and it seems we have President Barack Obama to thank for it.

Before you ask: we’re not talking about the U.S. military, we’re talking about the firearms owned by the general population. The National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) estimates that there are roughly 300 million firearms in the United States — and of those, nearly 40 million new firearms have been sold just since Barack Obama came into office in 2009….

Manufacturers were running full-bore, but couldn’t come close to keeping up with market demand. It wasn’t just the AR-15s, the AK-pattern rifles, the M1As, and the FALs that were sold out. It really hit me when I realized that the World War-era M1 Garands, M1 carbines, and Enfield .303s were gone, along with every last shell. Ubiquitous Mosin-Nagants — of which every gun store always seems to have 10-20 — were gone. So was their ammo. Only a dust free space marked their passing. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Every weapon of military utility designed within the past 100+ years was gone …

Cost-Conscious Obama Travels to Belgium With 900-Member Entourage

While his wife is busy reminding the Chinese how awful she’s had it living in such a mean country, the president is traveling to Belgium today with a scaled-back entourage of, er, 900 people, 45 vehicles and three cargo planes. The Belgians are just thrilled.

As Belgium’s capital and host to the EU and Nato, Brussels is used to deploying heavy security when big names pop by. But US PresidentBarack Obama‘s visit on Tuesday will strain the city like never before with €10m (£8.4m) of Belgian money being spent to cover his 24 hours in the country.

The president will arrive on Tuesday night with a 900-strong entourage, including 45 vehicles and three cargo planes. Advance security teams orchestrating every last detail have combed Brussels already, checking the sewers and the major hospitals, while American military helicopters were last week given the green light for overflights. The city hosts at least four EU summits a year, with each of these gatherings costing €500,000 in extra police, military and transport expenses. “But this time round, you can multiply that figure by 20,” said Brussels mayor, Yvan Mayeur.

They do realize even mentioning this means they’re racist, right?

Congressman Harris: Religious Freedom in the United States in Question

In Speech on House Floor, Rep. Harris Urges Government to Protect the Religious Beliefs of Every Individual

Washington, D.C.—
As the son of immigrants from Eastern Europe who saw government attacks on the right of religious freedom, Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., has serious concerns about the state of religious freedom in the United States, a freedom which is at the center of cases being argued at the Supreme Court today.

Congressman Harris released the following statement on the Supreme Court arguments today: “Today, as the Supreme Court begins to hear oral arguments in two related cases, let us hope that business owners do not have to choose between following their faith and following the law—it’s ironic that as Russians spread religious persecution in Crimea and Ukraine, the United States is having a debate on whether religious liberty will remain a foundational principle here at home.”

Yesterday, Congressman Andy Harris spoke on the House floor in support of Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties, two companies whose religious freedoms are being threatened by a Department of Health and Human Services directive that attacks their religious freedom. Hobby Lobby has a location in Congressman Harris’ district.

“If the government has its way with these two employers, [it] will attempt to persecute them for their religious beliefs and attempt to destroy them,” Congressman Harris said in his three-minute speech. During the speech, Congressman Harris highlighted the story of his whose own mother, a Ukrainian-Greek Catholic, who fled Communist Ukraine after World War II for a better life in the United States, where she could enjoy the freedom of religion. Virginia governor, lawmakers fail to reach Medicaid deal

(Reuters) - Virginia's Democratic governor, Terry McAuliffe, and the state's Republican-dominated House of Delegates on Monday failed to reach an agreement over Medicaid expansion during the first day of a special session called in hopes of reaching a budget deal.

The impasse over Medicaid, the federal health care program for the poor, is holding up passage of a two-year, $96 billion budget. If the two sides fail to reach a deal by July 1, the state government could grind to a halt. Legislators deadlocked over the budget during a 60-day regular session that ended March 8.

McAuliffe, a former Democratic Party fundraiser, proposed on Monday a two-year pilot expansion of Medicaid, which could be terminated if it is unsuccessful, but the proposal was rejected by the House Appropriations Committee.

Where In The World Is Obamao?

A funny thing happened during Michelle Obama's public relations tour of China (where taxpayers are privileged to pay $8,400 for each night of her lodgings): T-shirts, coin purses and posters that show President Barack Obama portrayed as Chairman Mao are normally available for sale at the Great Wall. "We don’t have them anymore," said one peddler, a woman who declined to give her name. "But if you come back next time, you might find them. You could come tomorrow," the woman said.

Many Md. Teachers, Principals Unprepared For Common Core, Official State Survey Finds

Less than a quarter of Maryland teachers said they were “very familiar” with the Common Core State Standards when asked about it last fall, according to a survey conducted for the Maryland State Department of Education.

The new standards-based education curriculum was adopted by Maryland in 2010 and was supposed to be fully implemented by the 2013-2014 school year.

The survey found that roughly half of teachers, 55%, said they were “somewhat familiar” with Common Core, while 24% said they were not familiar with the standards at all.

State officials tried to put a positive spin on the results but were met with criticism and questions by state Board of Education members. The survey results were presented to board members at the monthly state board meeting on Tuesday, but local school districts had already received the survey results.

NJ DEMOCRAT: REPUBLICANS 'HAVE BEEN PROVEN RIGHT' ABOUT MISUSE OF SANDY AID

Rep. Pallone is working with fellow New Jersey Democratic Congressman Bill Pascrell to install an oversight mechanism over Hurricane Sandy fund distribution. He told the Daily Beast's Olivia Nuzzi that he felt embarrassed that the mismanagement and funneling of money to projects that had little to do with Hurricane Sandy "actually happened" the way that Republicans in 2012 argued it would. He expressed frustration at having to tell his constituents that Republicans "have been proven right" and added that "it's very sad."

"IF YOU LIKE YOUR PLAN YOU CAN KEEP IT" BS!

Dear Jim Mathias & Norm Conway

I have been working my fingers to the bone for almost 10 years now with Salisbury News.

Gentlemen, we have made incredible donations with the funds we have raised through advertising. We are not a non profit, just a small group of people trying to give back to our community by "Paying It Forward".

I have a couple of buildings in Wicomico County that could use some sprucing up. We provide news and information 24 hours a day now during the week and we have been well known for delivering information none of the rest of the Main Stream Media are willing to expose.

I know I'm worth millions of dollars but hey, so is the Lions Club. You donated to the Radio Station at Salisbury University and even to the Library there.

Before the line gets too long, I'd like the state to make a major donation to our cause on behalf of the First Amendment.

Now Jim, I've known you some 35 years now, can you give an old buddy a hand.

Am I out of line here Ladies & Gentlemen? I mean, we have been working really hard. I think we deserve help too.

Potentially explosive new trend in marijuana use reported in Houston area

Hash oil is extracted from marijuana plants using highly flammable butane. Several people have been injured in explosions across the country as they tried to produce it.

Four teens and a 20-year-old allegedly had several grams of hash oil, over a pound of hydroponic marijuana, a shot gun and an assault rifle when they were arrested in Spring March 13.

Although the group was not producing it, officials said they fear it is only a matter of time before hash oil labs spring up in Houston.

Rehab centers are reporting its use is rapidly on the rise.

"We first began to see patients ... with a history of hash oil use in July 2013. Since that time, approximately 20 percent of the adolescents who have reported a history of marijuana use have also used THC concentrates or hash oil," said Vaughan Gilmore, staff social worker and addiction counsellor at Houston's Menninger Clinic.

Frederick County Legislators Frown On Getting 15.7 Percent Pay Hike

ANNAPOLIS — Six Republican lawmakers from Frederick County are united in their disapproval of the 15.7 percent pay increase set to kick in for Maryland legislators over the next four years.

Salaries for members of the Maryland General Assembly are on course to step up from their current level of $43,500 to $50,330 by 2018 unless legislators intervene. Sen. David Brinkley and five GOP delegates from Frederick County have signed on to a resolution blocking the raises, but with less than two weeks left in the legislative session, the measure has failed to gain momentum.

"We just don't think it needs to take place," Brinkley, R-District 4, said of the raises. "Among part-time legislators, Maryland is near the top."

CLARKE: Liberal policies have destroyed the black family

The latest attempt by liberals to help black people is underway in our K-12 urban public schools. These do-gooders are now defining down socially acceptable behavior for black students in school. Bad behavior is being excused and attempts to hold black kids accountable by enforcing codes of conduct are called racist. Having a sense of discipline has always been considered a virtue, a redeeming quality, but now its roots are claimed to lie in racism.

White liberal elites have chimed in about school codes of conduct. The Capital Times newspaper of Madison, Wis., recently chronicled bad behavior by black students in its public schools. In the story, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said that racial discrimination in school discipline codes “is a real problem today.” The white superintendent of the Madison public schools believes that “we need to address head-on our racial bias and the assumptions we make of students who are in the classroom.” Really? Where I come from, bad behavior has always been unacceptable and is codified not by race but by societal norms to keep chaos from reigning.

Atari dig put on hold in Alamogordo by state agency

The New Mexico Environment Department said in a letter that a waste excavation plan was "generic" and lacking in site specific details, among other deficiencies.

"No one is allowed to dig until the WEP is approved by the [Solid Waste and Ground Water Bureau]," Jim Winchester, a spokesman for the New Mexico Environment Department said. "A WEP must be approved in advance of any excavation and that includes even the city of Alamogordo."

Winchester said the WEP requires approval by the Solid Waste Bureau before any work can start.

How Republicans Can Win Black Votes

Too many Republicans seem to think that the way to “reach out” is to offer blacks and other minorities what the Democrats are offering them. Some have even suggested that the channels to use are organizations like the NAACP and black “leaders” like Jesse Jackson — that is, people tied irrevocably to the Democrats.

Voters who want what the Democrats offer can get it from the Democrats. Why should they vote for Republicans who act like make-believe Democrats?

Yet there are issues where Republicans have a big advantage over Democrats — if they will use that advantage. But an advantage that you don’t use might as well not exist.

Ohio Anti-Voter ID Rally Honors Woman Who Voted 5 Times for Obama

Voter fraud isn’t a problem.

That’s why the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus is pushing the “Voters’ Bill of Rights” amendment which would, among other things, write “write voter identification” into the Ohio Constitution preventing any move to“require photo ID.”

That would certainly benefit committed Democrats like Melowese Richardson who voted five times. She was sentenced to 5 years in prison, but the Democratic Party does not abandon its own. So she got probation instead.

And an ovation from her party at a rally promoting the No Voter ID Amendment. Because who needs photo IDs to vote.

Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Press Release 3-25-14

On March 22, 2014 at approximately 1459 hours, Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the area of George Island Landing Rd and Greenbackville Road, Stockton, Worcester County, Maryland, for a report of an intoxicated driver, involving a hit and run crash. It was reported that a white van struck a mailbox on George Island Landing Road, and continued driving. Deputies observed the mailbox and determined that the mailbox was hit, but no damage was done to the mailbox.

While en-route to the scene Deputies observed a white van matching the vehicle description, at a residence on George Island Landing Road. Deputies made contact with the driver, later identified as Jeffery Dean Hillman, 53, of Stockton Maryland, who was still seated in the driver’s seat. Upon contact with Hillman, Deputies detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle and on Mr. Hillman’s breath. Mr. Hillman was then asked to perform field sobriety tests. Based on Mr. Hillman’s performance of the field sobriety tests, Mr. Hillman was placed under arrest and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Mr. Hillman was later released on Maryland Uniform Traffic Citations.

On March 24, 2014 at approximately 1321 hours, a Deputy with the Worcester County Sheriff's Office stopped to assist a motorist who had broken down in the area of Racetrack Road and Worcester Highway in Berlin, Worcester County, Maryland. A driver's license and wanted check on a occupant in the vehicle, who was identified as Andrew Foster Cogar, 33, of Dagsboro, Delaware revealed that he was wanted on an outstanding Bench Warrant for Failing to appear on a Driving While Suspended case.

Mr. Cogar was into custody and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner where he was released on his personal recognizance.

ObamaCare and Drug Poverty

Hard as it is to believe, there is yet another price spike coming courtesy of ObamaCare. Avalere Health, a market and healthcare research firm, estimates that some consumers will pay as much as half the cost of so-called “specialty drugs” under health overhaul-related plans. By comparison, consumers in private plans typically pay no more than a third of those costs. ”There’s a significant percentage of plans who are using coinsurance of 50 percent or higher,” said Caroline Pearson, who tracks the health care overhaul for Avalere Health. “It is generally a lot higher than what we see in private insurance.”

A study by America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) revealed that while only 1 percent of drug prescriptions written in 2012 were for specialty drugs such as Avastin, a cancer drug, or Letairis, used to medicate hypertension, they accounted for 25 percent of the total costs associated with prescription drugs. It’s not hard to see why. The average cost per patient for Avasitn is $11,000 per year. Letairis costs a whopping $32,000 per patient per annum. ”Spending on specialty drugs is growing rapidly. It’s unsustainable,” said Clare Krusing, spokeswoman for AHIP.

Dems Unite to Push Obamacare in Last-Ditch Effort

The White House, joined by Democratic senators and congressmen, is mounting a three-part effort to push for Obamacare enrollment in the last week before open enrollment ends.

The push will include using Facebook, Twitter, and other social media with the hashtag #healthcare4all; events at which lawmakers will speak in honor of the program’s fourth anniversary; and speeches on the Senate floor lauding the program. The effort is the result of plans from White House, House, and Senate “healthcare strike teams” formed after the Obamacare rollout failed. Packets that delineate the benefits each state will receive as the result of Obamacare have been handed out to lawmakers so they can make the pitch to their constituents. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) chimed in with extra data and sample language.

We finally know who is responsible for black mob violence. Me.

So I am on the radio today (Tuesday the 24th of March) with Thom Hartmann — one of the top liberal radio talkers in the country.

Mr. Hartmann floats a theory that I first heard two weeks ago on the Tom Selleck show Blue Bloods: People who write about the Knockout Game are responsible for its popularity. And since I’ve written more and longer about it than anyone, well, that would be me.

So Hartmann throws that at me, even before the music is down. He wants to know any I am “promoting” the Knockout Game. Because it is all about copy cats.

And why didn’t I know that?

Good one.

That is almost as good as one year ago when that clown from the SPLC accused me of causing the Boston Marathon Bombing.

And the beat goes on.

State says Carroll doesn't need to impose separate fee to fund stormwater projects

County had faced fine of $10,000 per day; state now says plan is in compliance

A Carroll County plan to pay for state-mandated stormwater remediation projects through property tax proceeds — instead of through a direct fee to land owners decried by critics as Maryland’s “rain tax” — has been given a green light by state environmental officials.

The decision ends months of sparring between the state and county, a dispute that escalated when the state attorney general’s office threatened fines of up to $10,000 per day if Carroll didn’t comply.

In 2012, the Maryland General Assembly passed a law requiring the state's nine largest counties and Baltimore City to collect fees to pay for stormwater management, as well as stream and wetland restoration projects. The projects are aimed at improving water quality and reducing phosphorous and nitrogen entering the Chesapeake Bay.

QE Was Designed To Enrich the 1%

Dallas Fed President Richard Fisher has been a thoughtful dissenter all along on the lunacy of QE and the Fed’s massive bond buying spree. But now he has left nothing to the imagination, admitting that Bernanke’s objective all along was to aggressively levitate the price of financial assets and thereby confer massive windfall gains on the wealthy who own most of them. And all this was done in pursuit of some whacked-out, latter-day Keynesian version of “trickle down” economics, which, according to Bubbles Ben, was for the good of the average American—even if they didn’t appreciate it, comprehend it, demand it, or vote for it.

And that’s the heart of the problem. The average American does not need a monetary politburo comprised of 19 more or less self-selected dictators to decide what’s best for them economically. Once upon a time we had a far better decision mechanism called the free market and a wonderful financial market governor called the price of money and debt, aka market-based interest rates. Under that regime, savers got an honest reward for deferring current consumption and spending; borrowers faced the true economic cost of debt to finance their projects; speculators faced the risk of sudden, sharp changes in the cost of carry when markets got frothy; and investors discovered in the market a valid “cap rate” against which to figure the return on their investments.

No More Militarized Cops

As numerous law enforcement agencies across the United States begin enrolling large armored vehicles into the force, pockets of resistance are forming among some communities concerned with the trend.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the federal government has been granting armored vehicles like BearCats to cities and towns since the World Trade Center attacks in 2001. Additionally, about 200 vehicles designed to survive landmines and other explosions have also been distributed across the country, with another 750 requests pending.

Roving black mobs too many to ignore

City rejects media cover-up when violence breaks out in newspaper parking lot

Ten years ago, the media in Louisville, Ky., could have gotten away with reporting this weekend’s events this way: A group of 10 “roving teens got into a fight with two girls … then it happened a few more times over two hours.”

But now, less than 24 hours after a mob of 30 black people roamed through the city’s downtown Saturday, beating, laughing, destroying property, sending three seriously hurt people to the hospital and walking away laughing, outraged citizens in Louisville are asking two questions: Why is black mob violence such a problem? And when is local media going to start telling the truth about it?

Samantha Craven saw one of the attacks: “I seriously just witnessed a man get beat (almost) to death on Broadway right by 4th street live,” she wrote at the WAVE-TV News site. “He was jumped by AT LEAST 30 kids!! There was blood everywhere. … This is the craziest s— I’ve ever seen in my life! I’m shaking. … I wanna cry.”

Ryan's Critics Are in Denial

Liberals have had decades to learn the lessons of dependency.

Critics of Rep. Paul Ryan’s remarks about cultural factors in the persistence of poverty are simultaneously shrill and boring. Their predictable minuet of synthetic indignation demonstrates how little liberals have learned about poverty or changed their rhetorical repertoire in the last 49 years.

Ryan spoke of a “tailspin of culture, in our inner cities in particular, of men not working and just generations of men not even thinking about working or learning the value and the culture of work,” adding: “There’s a real culture problem here.” This brought down upon Ryan the usual acid rain of accusations — racism, blaming the victims, etc. He had sauntered into the minefield that a more experienced Daniel Patrick Moynihan — a liberal scholar who knew the taboos of his tribe — had tiptoed into five years before Ryan was born.

US ‘Democracy Promotion’ Destroys Democracy Overseas

It was almost ten years ago when, before the House International Relations Committee, I objected to the US Government funding NGOs to meddle in the internal affairs of Ukraine. At the time the “Orange Revolution” had forced a regime change in Ukraine with the help of millions of dollars from Washington.

At that time I told the Committee:

We do not know exactly how many millions—or tens of millions—of dollars the United States government spent on the presidential election in Ukraine. We do know that much of that money was targeted to assist one particular candidate, and that through a series of cut-out non-governmental organizations (NGOs)—both American and Ukrainian—millions of dollars ended up in support of the presidential candidate…

I was worried about millions of dollars that the US government-funded National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and its various related organizations spent to meddle in Ukraine’s internal affairs. But it turns out that was only the tip of the iceberg.

As Predicted, Stocks Make New Highs

The sky is falling. The seas are rising. The ground shakes. The very fabric of space and time trembles.

And stocks go up.

This is called "The Wall Street Party." The power elite that in aggregate organizes central banking policy and is responsible for foreign policy also supports a continuation of a positive climate for equities.

The stock market is supposed to travel up until it can no longer fly higher. But that may not be today or even tomorrow.

Six-time Obama voter’s group received Obama administration grant

The woman who admitted to voting for President Barack Obama six times worked for and sat on the board of a group that received an Obama administration Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grant.

Melowese Richardson admitted in 2013 to voting six times for Obama’s re-election while working as a poll worker in Hamilton County, Ohio. Initially convicted on state voter fraud charges and sentenced to five years in prison, Richardson served eight months before the George Soros-funded Ohio Justice and Policy Center helped lessen her sentence to probation. Richardson appeared last week at a rally with some Ohio Democrats and Al Sharpton, who publicly gave her a hug.

Democrats Livid After Nate Silver's GOP Senate Takeover Projection

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) blasted statistician Nate Silver for giving Republicans a 60% chance to take back the Senate even though they have been giving Silver's election projections credibility in order fundraise ahead of the 2014 midterms.

On ABC's This Week, Silver said Republicans would win Senate seats in West Virginia, Montana, and South Dakota and could also win in Arkansas, North Carolina, Louisiana, and even Iowa and Alaska. He said the GOP had a 60% chance to win the six seats they need to take the Senate back and a 30% chance to win as many as 11 seats.

DSCC Executive Director Guy Cecil then blasted him for his projections, saying he relied too much on Republican polls.

"Nate Silver and the staff at FiveThirtyEight are doing groundbreaking work, but, as they have noted, they have to base their forecasts on a scarce supply of public polls," he wrote. "In some cases more than half of these polls come from GOP polling outfits."
