You Can Bring A Horse To Water But You Can't Make Him Drink

There's been much discussion around Salisbury about the final results of the Mayoral Election. Many people are saying the election was rigged or altered.

Look, let's just face facts. Only 20% of the registered voters voted. Americans are becoming less and less interested in elections partly because they aren't satisfied with the candidates, some are simply too busy, but most simply couldn't care less any more. Even more importantly, Salisbury over the years has historically had a lower than average voter turn out in the state of Maryland.

The majority of voters elected a Mayor who wants to raise your taxes by $19,000,000.00 a year to clean the river, build 500 affordable or subsidized housing units Downtown as well as a Lock Out Ordinance that allows the Mayor or Chief of Police to close you down after two calls.

Many find it extremely hard to believe that the majority of voters wanted their taxes raised and so forth and so on. Yet what the majority of registered voters didn't do is get out there and VOTE.

I've made a few statements since I started running for Mayor. One was, "This is not Joe Albero's election to lose, it's the citizens' election to lose". I also stated, "This is not the Super Bowl for Joe Albero".

Life most certainly goes on but unlike most of you who live in Salisbury, I at least have a choice of moving and getting out of a City that seems to want to control your every move and take every penny you have left in fees or taxes.

I have no anger. I simply have a choice. Yes, you have a choice too but like most find out very quickly, your homes aren't worth what you owe or it simply kills you inside knowing you can't get half of what your property should be worth.

I laid out a platform that would start us in the right direction. It wouldn't be an instant turn around but now you have 2.7 years of what I feel could be the most devastating legislators this City has ever experienced. It all depends on Jake Day from this point forward. If Jake is as honorable as he comes off, maybe, just maybe there will be hope. However, he's a young man who clearly wants to be wanted.

If the new City Council becomes a rubber stamp for Mayor Ireton, combined with Governor O'Malley, Salisbury is doomed. Remember Ladies & Gentlemen, this is just my opinion and I seriously pray that I am completely wrong. I got into the race because I care. There are some out there that are laughing and or attacking me because I lost by such a large number. Did I lose or did you lose?

Tuesday Mayor Ireton came out with a feel good introduction to his economic development plan. Here's the problem, (as I see it) with his plan. It only talks about DOWNTOWN. As many of my critics stated to me while I was running, why are you only talking about Downtown, Salisbury is much bigger than Downtown. Then ALL of them became silent once I introduced my economic development plan as it included the entire City.

I welcome any one of you to come back with comments on this Post telling me ONE single item in which you firmly disagreed with ANYTHING on my platform or plan.

Jim Ireton cannot reach out to other communities and businesses on the western shore and encourage them to relocate to Salisbury. First of all, he doesn't have the time as a part time Mayor. Secondly, I instantly knew his press conference yesterday would only focus on Downtown and nowhere else. It all sounds good but when you've been in business as long as I have, you know a good marketing person when you see one and the only thing Jim Ireton is good at is fluff pieces, hence his life long career working for the government and not the private sector. He'd never survive where he'd be held accountable. Nor can he talk the business language necessary to convince owners to relocate here to Salisbury.

Once the election results came in Mr. Ireton instantly went on the attack. He attacked Debbie Campbell and then Tim Spies and Terry Cohen. How incredibly disappointing it was that even in victory Jim Ireton couldn't demonstrate that he's a gracious leader. Just the opposite, his statement reflected a total lack of class.

Debbie Campbell has been a personal friend of Jim Ireton since he was a child. Debbie, Tim and Terry helped get Jim elected the first time around. As a mature adult you can agree to disagree but when Mr. Ireton started going off about Jake Day winning and finally getting a Council that he wanted to move Salisbury, (or shall I say Jim Ireton) forward and that Tim and Terry should be on notice, I lost all respect for the man at that point.

When the numbers came in I was very professional. I expressed my congratulations to ALL Candidates and I called Debbie Campbell a hero to this community. Many of you seem to conveniently forget how difficult a time Debbie had once elected. It was constantly 4 to 1 votes, Debbie putting her reputation on the line as the watch dog of Salisbury. We watched the Waste Water Treatment Plant suck $84,000,000.00 out of taxpayers pockets and it didn't work. We watched developer reimbursements in the tens of millions of dollars, we watched TIF money being thrown around like candy at a parade.  The Fire Boat, the pipe stem annexation at Sassafras Meadows, the list goes on and on. Debbie Campbell stood firm in her beliefs and at that time I personally watched Jim Ireton stand at the podium and express his disbelief that Barrie Tilghman and the City Council continued to ramrod Debbie Campbell.

Then came Terry Cohen and the votes were then 3 to 2 for two years until Tim Spies was elected. Agree or disagree, no one will ever tell me that those three didn't truly have the City taxpayers in mind on every single decision they made. While Debbie was finding millions of dollars in savings on each budget, the Daily Times started a campaign against her 8 years ago and never let up. When Debbie won a position as one of Maryland's Top 100 Women, they purposely ignored her. When she was accepted to Harvard, they ignored her.

Debbie Campbell is one hell of an impressive woman and even more so as a Councilperson. What Jim Ireton did to her is disgusting, uncalled for and flat out immature. Jim's statements the night after the results came in told me instantly, I need to keep Salisbury News going. It would simply be too big a gift to walk away and Jim Ireton having a rubber stamp media to play with just as he did yesterday. Did you see any of the media say, WHAT ABOUT JOBS, WHAT ABOUT INDUSTRY, NO.

Because I care, I'm sticking around. However, to those who laughed at me for running and or the final results, remember Ladies & Gentlemen, not ONE other person stepped up to the plate to challenge Jim Ireton. Laugh all you want, running for Office takes incredible dedication. Moving from your home to live in Downtown Salisbury more than a year before the election was a huge challenge. Try knocking on 7,000 doors, waving signs, running a news outlet that never stopped and comments continually flowing without interruption. Each day started at 5 AM and didn't end until at least 11 PM.

The Albero Campaign worked extremely hard and we are very proud to have given it our all. Unfortunately for Mr. Ireton, now that I no longer have to spend so much time campaigning and I've trained myself to work that much harder each day, dedicating time to follow local news now could come back and bite him where the sun doesn't shine. Then again, IF Mr. Ireton does truly start seeing the light, believe me, I'll be more than happy to publish all of the great things it took him 4 years to realize Salisbury needed in the first place.

All that being said, THANK YOU. Thank You for each and every one of you for opening your doors and listening to my platform. After knocking on more than 7,000 doors I only ran into two people that were just plain rude. Not a bad average. Funny, I never had a door slammed in my face and I was never threatened by a single one of the nay sayers that claimed they were going to kick my butt if I knocked on their door.

I'd also like to thank the business community. The day before the election I chose to go down Rt. 13 and ask the business owners if they'd allow me the opportunity to put up my signs. If they had dirt, my signs went up and each and every one of those business owners encouraged my doing so. There had to be 100 signs up in one day alone.

Now let's see if it was your election to lose. Good Luck Mr. Ireton.

In closing, give me a few more days to relax and make plans because  Salisbury News is about to go local once again.

Smith Admits To Setting 52 Fires

ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - Charles Smith III admitted to setting 52 of the 77 fires on the Eastern Shore and was denied bond in court Wednesday.

Smith and his fiance, Tonya Bundick, were arrested last week for setting a fire in Melfa. The two have only been charged in connection with that incident, but State Police say they are responsible for a majority of the 77 fires in Accomack County since mid-November.

According to the Eastern Shore News Virginia editor Ted Shockley, Smith said Bundick set 15 of the fires. These numbers indicate the couple set 67 of the 77 fires.

QUOTES OF THE DAY 4-11-13

“the larger the percentage of the national income taken by taxes the greater the deterrent to private production and employment. When the total tax burden grows beyond a bearable size, the problem of devising taxes that will not discourage and disrupt production becomes insoluble.”
Henry Hazlitt, Economics in One Lesson: The Shortest and Surest Way to Understand Basic Economics

“Practically all government attempts to redistribute wealth and income tend to smother productive incentives and lead toward general impoverishment. It is the proper sphere of government to create and enforce a framework of law that prohibits force and fraud. But it must refrain from specific economic interventions. Government’s main economic function is to encourage and preserve a free market.
Henry Hazlitt, Economics in One Lesson: The Shortest and Surest Way to Understand Basic Economics

“The ideas which now pass for brilliant innovations and advances are in fact mere revivals of ancient errors, and a further proof of the dictum that those who are ignorant of the past are condemned to repeat it.”
Henry Hazlitt, Economics in One Lesson: The Shortest and Surest Way to Understand Basic Economics

“The art of economics consists in looking not merely at the immediate but at the longer effects of any act or policy; it consists in tracing the consequences of that policy not merely for one group but for all groups.”
Henry Hazlitt

“Everything we get, outside of the free gifts of nature, must in some way be paid for. The world is full of so- called economists who in turn are full of schemes for getting something for nothing. They tell us that the government can spend and spend without taxing at all; that it can continue to pile up debt without ever paying it off, because “we owe it to ourselves.”
Henry Hazlitt, Economics in One Lesson: The Shortest and Surest Way to Understand Basic Economics

“Necessary policemen, firemen, street cleaners, health officers, judges, legislators and executives perform productive services as important as those of anyone in private industry. They make it possible for private industry to function in an atmosphere of law, order, freedom and peace. But their justification consists in the utility of their services. It does not consist in the “purchasing power” they possess by virtue of being on the public payroll.”
Henry Hazlitt, Economics in One Lesson: The Shortest and Surest Way to Understand Basic Economics

“Mere inflation-that is, the mere issuance of more money, with the consequence of higher wages and prices-may look like the creation of more demand. But in terms of the actual production and exchange of real things it is not.”
Henry Hazlitt, Economics in One Lesson: The Shortest and Surest Way to Understand Basic Economics

“all loans, in the eyes of honest borrowers, must eventually he repaid. All credit is debt. Proposals for an increased volume of credit, therefore, are merely another name for proposals for an increased burden of debt. They would seem considerably less inviting if they were habitually referred to by the second name instead of by the first.”

DELAWARE PLANNED PARENTHOOD CLINIC CLOSED AFTER WHISTLEBLOWERS GO PUBLIC ABOUT CONDITIONS

Life News:The Delaware affiliate of the Planned Parenthood abortion business has injured two women in two weeks in failed abortions. Operation Rescue has published newly-obtained 911 recordings of two medical emergencies at Planned Parenthood in Wilmington, Delaware, which took place on February 8, and 16, 2013. LifeNews previously reported on one of the incidents.

According to information the pro-life group provided LifeNews today, patients were transported to a local hospital with abortion complications that could not be managed by abortionists and nurses who attended the women at the clinic. The 911 recordings were obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests made by a participant in a local 40 Days for Life campaign with the assistance of Operation Rescue. While prayer vigil participants were present for the incident on the 16th, they were unaware that another medical emergency had taken place at that same Planned Parenthood abortion clinic just 8 days earlier until they received the open records files.

“The 911 recordings are important because they expose the inconvenient truth that abortion isn’t as safe as the abortion cartel would have you believe,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation. “Women are maimed and killed by shoddy abortionists on a regular basis, but it is covered up by the clinics, the abortion lobby, and the media. Public records tear way the curtains of secrecy that enables abortionists to abuse women. This helps us warn the public and hold abortionists accountable for their actions.” February 8, 2013, Planned Parenthood called 911 at 1:30 p.m. to ask for assistance for a patient that was unconscious and struggling to breathe. Despite the presence of two physicians and three nurses, her condition still required emergency assistance from paramedics.

A FORM OF GUN CONFISCATION HAS REPORTEDLY BEGUN IN NEW YORK STATE — HERE’S THE JUSTIFICATION BEING USED

Update: Hear an interview with the lawyer representing some of the New Yorkers who were forced to surrender their guns and permits (at the end of this story).

Despite promises from the president and a host of other politicians who are pushing for more gun control that nobody is coming for your guns, the confiscation of guns and gun permits has apparently started in some form in New York State. One attorney representing several people who have been forced to surrender their guns spoke with TheBlaze and alerted us to some disturbing facts:

Gun owners are losing their 2nd Amendment rights without due process.

HIPAA Laws are likely being compromised and the 4th and 5th Amendments are being violated in some of these cases.

Final Action On Bills: Updates On Legislation Covered Earlier This Session

Here are updates on the General Assembly’s action on bills we covered earlier in the session.

OPEN MEETINGS: A bill increasing penalties for violations of the Open Meetings Act has passed both houses of the General Assembly after being watered down in committee and will become law on October 1 if signed by the governor. The General Assembly also passed legislation requiring that employees of public bodies take training courses on the Open Meetings Act.

OBAMACARE: The Maryland Health Progress Act, a law that would finish the state’s implementation of national health reform, was passed by both houses of the General Assembly and will take effect on June 1.

CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM: The Campaign Finance Reform Act of 2013, which upped contribution limits and imposed steeper fines for violations of campaign finance laws, passed both the Maryland Senate and the House of Delegates. Much of the law doesn’t go into effect until the next election cycle, but it did change the filing deadline for next year’s election from April 9 to Feb. 25.

We Are Strong: It Is Our Institutions That Are Crumbling

It is the beginning of the end of the way things used to be. Once reliable institutions are being destroyed from within and we cannot save them. Nor should we want to.

The “one big thing”, globalization, new world order…all failing.

Central Banks, Fiat Money and Fractional Reserve Banking…failing.

Political Parties, most governments, The Catholic Church, Universities…all failing.

And, no matter how much money they get from us they cannot reverse the rot of moral decay. Honesty, integrity, transparency, fairness, accountability, and justice are absent at every level.

This is what happens when you live a lie. You even have so called journalists like the Orlando Sentinel’s, Beth Kassab, arguing that justice is far less important than expediency. How’s that supposed to work?

“Right this way to the showers.” That wasn’t justice, but it sure got rid of a lot of Jews in a hurry.

Already, if you live in Florida and they illegally foreclose on your home you have one minute to make your case of the tangled web of fraud and forged documents. One fucking minute? How is that supposed to work?

We are literally making up money to give to big business and backing it with higher taxes on wage earners, the real bearers of the burden of taxes. How is that supposed to work?

Air Show Looking To Land Top Civilian Jet Teams After Losing Blue Angels

OCEAN CITY -- The U.S. Navy Blue Angels demonstration team, expected to be the feature act at the Ocean City Air Show in June, announced this week it was canceling all remaining appearances for 2013, putting an apparent damper of the resort’s air show, but organizers said this week the show will go on with an all-star civilian line-up.

For the first few years of the Ocean City Air Show held each June over the beach and Boardwalk, military demonstration teams have been the signature element of the event, most notably the U.S. Air Force’s Thunderbirds.

This year, Ocean City Air Show organizers scored a coup of sorts when they were able to lure the Blue Angels for the 2013 event set for June 8-9. However, federal budget cuts labeled as “sequestration” after an impasse in Washington forced the grounding of most of the armed forces demonstration teams.

Screwing The Troops

For a country always at war, the United States is remarkably not interested in taking care of soldiers it has broken in its wars. Having bankrupted the country, Washington sinks every available penny into the two purposes of the military: funneling money into the arms industry, and fueling imperial ambitions, in large part of pasty fern-bar Napoleons at National Review and Commentary. The Veterans Administration is way back in the chow line. It doesn’t work very well. As best I can tell, nobody cares.

What do I mean, it doesn’t work? Consider a vet blinded or nearly so in some war or other. To use a computer, which has come to be necessary life, he needs screen-reader software, such as JAWS. It costs roughly a thousand dollars retail. For a blinded vet, most likely of slight education and no resources beyond his VA compensation, this is a lot of money.

The software could be provided quickly and easily, as follows: The vet fills out an application online, perhaps prints it, signs it, and scans it to the VA. An employee of the VA receives it and keys the veteran’s social-security number into his computer. In two seconds the vet’s records come up. Yep, blind. The VA emails him a URL and download key, by arrangement previously made with the manufacturer of the software. The vet downloads it. End of story. Elapsed time: an hour, plus download.

Unusual Bill Grants Opens Access To Retail Restrooms

Legislators work on big issues like gun control, the death penalty and taxes, but then there are hundreds of other bills addressing smaller problems that fly under the radar.

The governor just signed a bill into law that expands access to an “employees only” bathroom in a retail store for individuals suffering from Crohn’s disease or other medical conditions that require immediate access to a restroom.

“When you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go,” said Del. Norman Conway, D-Wicomico, sponsor of HB 1183.

The new law tells the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to provide individuals with identification cards which, signed by a person’s primary physician, identify the person’s medical condition and grant them unlimited access to otherwise-restricted restrooms.

WE ARE: Penn State Captain AJ Williams Ready For Pro Debut!

Cockeysville, MD – When 6’4 middleweight and Penn State graduate AJ “We Are” Williams entered a ring for the first time, he had no idea where the sport of boxing would take him.

As a freshman, Williams played varsity basketball at Penn State’s Schuylkill campus however, his hoop dreams were cut short due to knee injuries. Looking for a new athletic venture, Williams transferred to the main campus, took up boxing and far exceeded his own expectations. Before graduating from Penn State in 2010, the life science major served as the team captain and won a bronze medal at the National Colligate Boxing Association (NCBA) tournament.

Upon receiving his Bachelors Degree, Williams took his talents to the Baltimore Boxing & Fitness gym and continued to box in the amateur ranks. After falling short in the Maryland Golden Gloves, Williams’ team suggested he compete at the next level.

“I really liked what I saw from AJ when he started training with me,” said Jake “The Snake” Smith, who trains Williams and is a member of the Maryland and Washington DC Boxing Hall of Fames. “He’s got a great head on his shoulders, always listens and doesn’t have an ego like a lot of young fighters do. He’s really come a long way and he’ll only continue to improve.”

“I never thought I’d go pro when I first started boxing,” said the soft-spoken 26-year-old. “I did it for fun at first then once I got pretty good at it and placed in nationals in 2010, that’s when I realized I could go pro.”

On Friday evening, Williams makes his pro debut against Issa Coulibaly in a special attraction bout as part of Jake “The Snake” Promotions’ “Salisbury Slugfest” from the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center in Salisbury, MD. Though he’s excited for the opportunity, Williams admits switching his style for the paid ranks has been a learning process.

“The transition has been interesting. It used to be all about throwing a lot of punches and scoring points. Now it’s focusing on sitting down on my punches. To get ready, I’ve trained harder than ever before. Friday is going to be a great show.”

Tickets starting at $20 and VIP tables of 10 are on sale now at the Wicomico Civic Center Box Office, by calling 410-548-4911 or logging onto WicomicoCivicCenter.Org. A 20% military discount is available on all tickets purchased with a valid ID at the Civic Center Box Office and specially priced hotel rooms can be purchased by going towww.mmx2reservations.com/wicomico/pc/slug. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the action kicks off at 8.

Headlining the “Salisbury Slugfest” is an eight round cruiserweight bout between local star Alexis Guerrero of Salisbury, MD and Oklahoma City, OK’s Terrence Smith. A big ticket seller in Salisbury, Guerrero is 8-0-1 with 5 wins by knockout, most recently dispatching famed tough guy Harvey Jolly inside of five rounds last September. Smith, a late replacement for Elvin Sanchez, has a deceptive record of 8-14-2 with five victories by stoppage. Smith’s faced an incredible 12 unbeaten opponents including Yunieski Gonzalez, Shaun George, Farah Ennis, Cedric Agnew, Adam Hubinger and Carlos Durate among others.

In the co-feature, popular super middleweight Frankie “Freight Train” Filippone of Norfolk, VA meets Baton Rouge, LA’s Marcus Clay. Filippone, who is also a Virginia Beach police officer, has an excellent 13-2 record with 2 wins by knockout.

In a battle of the big men, unbeaten Duane Mobley of Upper Marlboro, MD risks his 7-0 record against seasoned Baltimorean Lonnie Kornegay in a four rounder.

Also appearing on the undercard in separate bouts is Salisbury’s very own Damont Giddins and Washington DC’s Hugh Hinds.

OBAMA IS SET TO BECOME THE FIRST PRESIDENT TO EVER DO THIS

In the historical tables it released along with President Barack Obama's fiscal 2014 budget proposal this morning, the White House Office of Management and Budget revealed that in fiscal 2016, under the president's budget proposal, it expects Obama to become the first president in the nation's history to preside over a federal government that spends more than $4 trillion in one year.

The OMB's historical tables also reveal that the White House does not expect this administration to ever run an annual deficit as low as $458.5 billion, which was the deficit the government ran in fiscal 2008, the last fiscal year completed before Obama took office.

According to OMB's tables, the federal government would spend$3.7778 trillion in fiscal 2014 under Obama's budget proposal. It would then spend $3.9801 trillion in fiscal 2015; $4.0898 trillion in fiscal 2016; and $4.2474 trillion in fiscal 2017.

Sharing The Spirit Of Hospice Volunteering

In honor of National Volunteer Week – April 21-27 – Coastal Hospice is pleased to recognize a volunteer who gives her time and talents in a variety of ways that help us achieve our mission to promote the dignity and quality of life for patients and families who face life-limiting conditions. From the beginning of her volunteer career with Coastal Hospice, Jennifer Hamilton's contributions have enriched the lives of so many across Delmarva. Her professional knowledge and skills are as diverse as the assignments Coastal Hospice has asked her to accomplish.

As a licensed counselor, patient care volunteering is a natural fit for Jennifer. She is frequently holding the hand of a patient, listening while they talk about their lives, family and often their fears. Her patient care volunteer hours are also filled with running errands for patients, tidying up, and talking with family members. Her friendly and calming demeanor, along with her highly developed listening skills, provide non-judgmental comfort and care to our patients. "Many families have expressed their deepest gratitude for her assistance and emotional support, says Coastal Hospice Volunteer Services Manager Judy Hunt-Harris "It takes a special person to visit those facing life limiting illnesses and Jennifer is that special person."

Jennifer says patient care volunteering is extremely rewarding. "The time I spend with patients tends to be quiet and peaceful. It's not uncommon for me to be holding a patients hand and listening. These are my favorite moments. As with many other volunteers, I've been grieving a loved one. The experience of loving and caring for someone who is dying was life changing. It reinforced for me how important it is for families to have the ability to be together when a loved one is faced with a terminal illness."

In January, she put her counseling background to work for other volunteers, sharing her knowledge about compassion fatigue by presenting in-services trainings in Berlin, Salisbury and Cambridge.

A creative amateur photographer, Jennifer shoots and posts all the photos for our Thrift Shop Facebook page. Jennifer's newest photography adventure has led her to the Bennett Farms green house to chart the growth of our nearly 7,000 geraniums for our upcoming geranium sale. Her knowledge of marketing has inspired others to follow her example in recruiting and educating the public about hospice during local health fairs.

"Photography has provided me with a creative outlet since childhood and I have been especially excited about pairing my hobby with a cause I believe in," she says.

Jennifer volunteers for Coastal Hospice because it reflects her personal values and because of the service it provides the community. "While volunteering I've observed the dedicated work of all of those at Coastal Hospice. I've learned how truly dedicated the professional staff are in providing compassionate care to those in our community. What great role models we have! This is also one of the reasons why it's so nice to volunteer for Coastal Hospice. I encourage all who have an interest in volunteering to check out this dynamic organization."

Coastal Hospice is so thankful to have her and our many other volunteers as part of our team. “Her generosity has touched the lives of many of those in our community at their time of greatest need,” Judy says. “We are thankful for her many hours of dedicated service.”

Police Seize More Than $100,000 In Heroin

Officers with the Delaware State Police Governor's Task Force seized more than $100,000 in heroin following a traffic stop near the I-95 and Route 141 intersection in New Castle.

TUNNEL PEOPLE

Poverty in this country is the elephant in the room nobody talks about. There are 48 million people on food stamps, 100 million on welfare, 11..7 million on disability, and 101 million people that have “left the workforce” and don’t have jobs. Nobody has to wait in soup and bread lines any longer, they have their Obamacards.

Obama and his minions in the MSM keep talking about a recovery, great housing market, jobs recovery, but everyone knows it’s all government manipulated bullshit. Has the country become desensitized to these people? Have you?

So, another great article about what is really going on out there. The middle class is being annihilated, falling into poverty in the suburbs as well as the inner city. Some even living in tunnels. Thank goodness Bernanke keeps pumping up the stock market to new records and printing $80 billion a month. Where will it all end? Maybe this article is a glimpse of things to come.

Housing Administration Might Need $943 Million Bailout, White House Says

The cash-strapped Federal Housing Administration will probably require a $943 million taxpayer bailout to cover expected losses on loans it insured as the U.S. housing bubble was deflating, the Obama administration said Wednesday.

It would be the first bailout of the government’s mortgage insurer in its nearly 80-year history.

The White House estimated that the FHA has about $30 billion on hand but said its cash reserves would probably be swamped by souring loans.

Will We Never Learn?

Just Keep Dancing: Introducing The 97-Month Auto Loan

While many of us have been shouting about this from the rooftops for years now, with each passing day it becomes more clear what a terrifyingly gigantic powder keg we have created. There is no debate that this will end in a compete financial holocaust, the only question is when and how. As time progresses, the practices and desperation of the status quo to keep the sheeple in debt and consuming [5]is getting increasingly insane. We learn from the Wall Street Journal that:
The average price of a new car is now $31,000, up $3,000 in the past four years. But at the same time, the average monthly car payment edged down, to $460 from $465—the result of longer loan terms and lower interest rates.

In the final quarter of 2012, the average term of a new car note stretched out to 65 months, the longest ever, according to Experian Information Solutions Inc. Experian said that 17% of all new car loans in the past quarter were between 73 and 84 months and there were even a few as long as 97 months. Four years ago, only 11% of loans fell into this category.

Such long term loans can present consumers and lenders with heightened risk. With a six- or seven-year loan, it takes car-buyers longer to reach the point where they owe less on the car than it is worth. Having “negative equity” or being “upside down” in a car makes it harder to trade or sell the vehicle if the owner can’t make payments.

A Letter To The Editor On Humane Society

JOE- I contacted the Wicomico County Humane Society to ask how many dogs one can have at one house in Salisbury, I was told since I lived in the city they would not answer my question. I pay Wicomico County taxes as well as live in Wicomico County and they don't mind asking us for donations and help. I was told I had to call the city well I did and they don't have the answer all though they are going to help on another related matter. Do you know the answer or any of your readers out there? I am asking because there is a dog pen facing the city street, just a few feet from the street with 4 -5 pitbulls, but could be any breed really, but they bark all the time 24/7 (owners fault because they don't care) they were raised inside and in recent months are all outside and they are not adjusting well, probably upset because they feel neglected. Is there a limit is what I'm asking, are pens with multiple dogs even allowed? Thank you for a place to get answers.

LaFerla Running For Congress In Md.’s 1st District

ANNAPOLIS — A Maryland doctor on Wednesday formally filed papers to run in the Democratic primary next year in the state’s 1st Congressional District.

Dr. John LaFerla said at the Maryland State Board of Elections that he wants to get a quick start. He also said he plans to end his medical practice as an obstetrician and gynecologist sometime this year to focus on the race full time.

“I’m going to be full-time campaigning starting in January of 2014,” LaFerla said in an interview.

LaFerla lost the 2012 primary by 57 votes to Wendy Rosen, who dropped out abruptly in 2012 after the state Democratic Party learned she had voted in both Maryland and Florida in 2006 and 2008. Rosen withdrew about a month before the election and her name could not be taken off the ballot.

Controversial gun legislation cleared a key Senate hurdle Thursday, as lawmakers voted 68-31 to start debate on the package which includes expanded background checks and new penalties for gun trafficking.

Senate Democrats, joined by 16 Republicans, were able to overcome an attempted filibuster by GOP senators opposed to the current bill. Those senators could still slow-walk the debate, but the Senate will eventually begin votes on amendments -- one of which is considered crucial to winning support for a final vote.

The White House called Thursday's tally an "important" but "early milestone," as both sides of the issue prepare for a grueling debate -- one that is being waged in Washington and on the airwaves.

Mock Cemetery Installed on National Mall as Senators Vote on Guns

More than 3,300 crosses, Stars of David and Islamic symbols were installed on the National Mall Thursday as peace activists created a mock cemetery to honor victims of gun violence.

Organizers said the number of markers was chosen to honor the victims of gun violence who have died since the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

At 11:30 a.m., religious leaders -- including some from Newtown -- began a 24-hour vigil among the grave markers, a protest aimed at lawmakers as they began to vote on a set of new gun restrictions.

MSNBC HOST TOURE FOUNDED A ‘MILITANT ANTI-WHITE STUDENT NEWSPAPER’

MSNBC host Touré, a writer and “cultural critic,” has recently been in the news for attacking Dr. Benjamin Carson, the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Havinginsulted black Rush Limbaugh fans in the past, Touré said Dr. Carson’s “un-serious” ideas are tolerated on the right only because he can be held up as a token black friend.

Now, a recent report by the Daily Caller suggests the television host has long seen the world through a racial lens.

“MSNBC host Touré founded a student newspaper dedicated to black liberation theology while he was a college student attending Emory University from 1989 to 1992,” The Daily Caller claims. “Touré’s flagship publication, The Fire This Time, lavished praise on famous anti-Semites, black supremacists, and conspiracy theorists whom Touré helped bring to campus. Before he became an intense-but-sardonic TV personality, Touré also decried ‘the suffocating white community’ and defended a nationally famous fake hate crime.”

Liberals Go Crazy For The Mentally Ill

MSNBC’s Martin Bashir suggested that Republican senators need to have a member of their families killed for them to support the Democrats’ gun proposals. (Let’s start with Meghan McCain!)

In a bizarre version of “A Christmas Carol,” CNN’s Carol Costello fantasized about “a mother who lost her child,” showing up and knocking on Sen. Rand Paul’s door, saying, “Please don’t do this!”
The victims of gun violence are the left’s latest “human shields” — a term coined by me in Godless: The Church of Liberalism
– for their idiotic ideas. At least it’s not the godawful Jersey Girls this time.

The one clear thread that unites all the mass murders currently being exploited by the Democrats is that they were committed by visibly crazy people who were unaccountably not institutionalized. But Democrats refuse to do anything about crazy people. Apparently, the views of families with relatives murdered by severely disturbed individuals are no longer relevant when it comes to institutionalizing the mentally ill.

Four Teens Killed In Crash

CHESTER - The Kent Island community is in mourning after a late afternoon crash claimed the lives of four local teens.

Jane Fonda Tells Veterans Boycotting Her Movie 'The Butler' To 'Get A Life'

LOS ANGELES – When Jane Fonda was cast as former First Lady Nancy Reagan in Lee Daniels’ forthcoming film “The Butler,” some Reagan fans were not pleased. Now, with the biographical due to hit theaters in October, a movement to boycott the movie is gaining some momentum.

Larry Reyes, a Navy veteran and founder of the “Boycott Hanoi Jane Playing Nancy Reagan” Facebook page has been particularly vocal about the casting decision, given Fonda’s past frolicking with the enemy during the Vietnam War.

Quote Of The Day From The Los Angeles Times

Dianne Feinstein: "All vets are mentally ill and government should prevent them from owning firearms"

Kurt Nimmo: "Senator Feinstein insults all U.S. Veterans as she flays about in a vain attempt to save her bill."
"Frankly, I don't know what it is about California, but we seem to have a strange urge to elect really obnoxious women to high office. I'm not bragging, you understand, but no other state, including Maine, even comes close. When it comes to sending left-wing dingbats to Washington, we're Number One. There's no getting around the fact that the last time anyone saw the likes of Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, Maxine Waters, and Nancy Pelosi, they were stirring a cauldron when the curtain went up on 'Macbeth'. The four of them are like jackasses who happen to possess the gift of blab. You don't know if you should condemn them for their stupidity or simply marvel at their ability to form words."

Learning With Git-Some

Before I learned about poverty, I was just a country boy from up the holler in West Virginia, with twelve toes, and I guess I didn’t know much. Especially about poverty. When I got to Washington, DC, I decided that I ought to be poor. I just wish I’da started earlier.

It’s a good deal. You get lots of free stuff and you don’t have to work. If I had knowed about poverty when I was fourteen, and what a good thing it was, I’DA give up my paper route. I mean, who in his right mind would get up at four-thirty in the morning in January, with eight inches of snow on the ground, and ride across lawns on a bike with four hundred pounds of the Wheeling Intelligencer in a basket, so people could read about crooked politicians and clip grocery coupons? And then I’d catch the school bus.

That teacher lady said I was pretty smart, and she hoped I’d go far, but I reckoned she’DA been happy if I just went to the next country over.

When you got out of high school, you had to get a job, and get up mornings even if you didn’t want to, and do something all day that you probably didn’t like. Unless you were poor, and then you could sleep in and do what you wanted all day. I didn’t know it then, though.

Good Banker, Bad Banker

It's important to draw a line between two very different flavors of banker: "restrained" (Dr. Jekyll) and "unrestrained" (Mr. Hyde).

Those who read The Proper Use of Credit (April 4, 2013) know that I see a vital role for credit and yes, banks, in a sustainable economy. But as many observers have pointed out, banks must be controlled lest the predatory, parasitic Mr. Hyde replaces the proper Dr. Jekyll role of providing capital to worthy enterprises and households.

In response to Debt = Serfdom (April 2, 2013), longtime correspondent Jeff W. delineated the difference between Good Banker (restrained) and Bad Banker (unrestrained). Unfortunately, as Jeff explains, it is Mr. Hyde (unrestrained banker) who has captured the political and regulatory machinery of governance.

THE POWER TO DESTROY YOUR STANDARD OF LIVING

You may have heard that the Bank of Japan has taken desperate measures to weaken their currency and create inflation. They have succeeded in driving the Japanese stock market up 60%, enriching speculators and connected cronies. Well done. They win the Benjamin Award, named after Bernanke, and given to the most reckless central bank of the year. Japan is occupied by a rapidly aging population that has seen its savings rate plunge from 20% to 0% over the last two decades. These old people have been thrown under the bus by the BOJ and their political leaders. As you can see from this chart, the senior citizens of this country have lost 28% of their purchasing power in the last eight months. Think about that for a second. The rich have seen their wealth expand by 60%, while the peasants have seen their standard of living destroyed by 28%. This is a template for what Bernanke and our politicians want to do. You’ve been warned.

MARYLAND GOVERNOR TAXES RAIN

Maryland Democratic Governor Martin O’Malley has instituted a tax on citizens for the amount of rain that falls on their property.

The tax, officially known as a "storm water management fee," will be enforced in nine of the state's counties. The state legislature passed it in 2012 purportedly to "raise revenue to cleanup [sic] the Chesapeake Bay," according to MarylandReporter.com.

Former 2012 GOP U.S. Senate candidate Dan Bongino bashes the tax in a Wednesday afternoon press release. The law "requires individuals, businesses, and even charitable organizations and houses of worship to pay a tax based on the amount of rain that falls on their property and the 'impervious surfaces' on their land," he says.

Media Misrepresenting Judicial Confirmations

The path to rule by executive order by the Obama Administration runs directly through the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. “There are few things more vital on the president’s second-term agenda,” Constitutional Accountability Center president Doug Kendall told The Washington Post last week. “With legislative priorities gridlocked in Congress, the president’s best hope for advancing his agenda is through executive action, and that runs through the D.C. Circuit.”

Currently, the D.C. Circuit, which is considered one notch below the U.S. Supreme Court and deals with many challenges to executive branch actions, has four openings. It currently has four Republican appointees and three Democrats. This is the same court that ruled in January that President Obama lacked the authority to make the three recess appointments he made to the National Labor Relations Board.

Punitive Taxes: Backdoor Gun Control

Firearms consumers in Chicago will now pay and additional $25 for each firearm purchased. In California, a panel will hear testimony about imposing a 5 cent per bullet tax measure and New Jersey is debating a 5% tax added on to guns and ammo purchases.
“There are costs incurred as a result of gun violence which are borne by the general taxpayer — both social and economical,” California Assemblyman Roger Dickinson, who put forward a nickel ammo tax proposal in January, said in an interview. “There ought to be a cost … to those who want to buy firearms.”
