No, we don’t blame Ireton for the state of the national economy, but the national economy isn’t in the same shape as Salisbury’s either. While Ireton has held lots of press conferences attacking others during his nearly four years as mayor, what has he done to attract any jobs to Salisbury?
While Ireton claims that he has “revitalized” downtown, just take a stroll down the plaza. Notice that Ireton never discusses the REST of the city. THAT’s where the jobs are!
For almost four years Ireton has “borrowed” ideas from others in the city and claimed them as his own. Since Joe Albero declared as a candidate it’s ironic that NOW Ireton wants to streamline the city’s permitting process and finally start to treat businesses as something other than people to be TAXED, FINED, or charged FEES. Naturally, we question his sincerity because he’s had FOUR YEARS to accomplish some rather COMMON SENSE tasks.
If Salisbury’s economy was growing rather than BLEEDING JOBS, it wouldn’t be experiencing such a high vacancy rate.

It should be noted that Mr. Cox stated in his article that ONE in SIX homes are in foreclosure. This is a MUCH HIGHER rate than the rest of the state. In the mean time, Ireton continues to allow more Pharmacies to be build with part time and minimum wage jobs. Don't forget the tax breaks these companies are getting to build here.
So I'll ask again Jim, where's the good paying jobs? You haven't revitalized anything.

If you become mayor, which you will unless there is voter fraud... What will you do for the city of SBY when it relates to taxes, and fees, and the like? Is there any way or anything we can do to get those done a way with or to lower them?
I will have to make a choice here soon, wither I wish to stay in this area or move to Virginia or Delaware, hell I'd move anywhere, rather than stay one more second in Maryland...
I know you get asked this all the time, I know there is no ONE answer and I know there is no fix all solution...
right now, everything that VA is doing and what DE is trying to do shows they welcome people, they have some jobs, more than MD, and a lot of people who work for DE and VA are enacting laws that negate the Obama bin laden laws that are unconstitutional... and they are making laws to protect its citizenry from said laws and enforcers of them laws...
I refuse to pay the state of MD a 100 fee a year or 100 every five years just to be able to own a gun... MD is doomed, once the sequestration hits fully and once Beretta moves out...
anonymous 9:07, When I made my announcement to run for Mayor I clearly stated I would make the Mayor's job a full time position, yet the same part time pay. I stated that I would spend half my time as the Mayor and the other half as the next Economic Development Director. I would go to other communities throughout the state and country and encourage manufacturers to relocate their businesses here to Salisbury, providing great paying jobs.
Ireton and Tilghman have never done such a thing. Instead, they sat behind their desk waiting for businesses to fall into their lap.
Now, to answer your question, yes, I will absolutely find tax relief for the citizens. It can't happen immediately but I can at least get Salisbury headed in the right direction. If we don't start doing this IMMEDIATELY Salisbury will absolutely fail. LOOK AROUND. Heck, just look at yesterday's article. There are very few good paying jobs with thousands of people lining up to fill any open position. This has to end.
Jim made promises and he has failed those voters who elected him the last time. He is using social media to get UNEDUCATED votes. If you want Salisbury to turn around you must encourage people to get to the polls April 2nd. We have to do so like we've never seen before.
If Jim Ireton were an honorable man, (seriously) he would step aside and let me do my job. Ireton knows he has NO business experience. Can you just imagine Jim Ireton walking into a major company trying to convince them they should relocate here? Yeah, his social media friends might like him but the reality of it is, those businesses would crush him, as well as the staff he has and would bring to those kind of meetings.
IF Jim actually cared he'd step aside and let someone who knows a LOT more about how to run a business get the job done. I can and will do exactly that.
Once I'm able to bring those businesses here to Salisbury and create a new tax base, yes, the tax burden on residents would decrease. FUNNY how Ireton NEVER figured that out, until I started running for Office.

Move to VA. There is nothing Joe or the Mayor of Salisbury can do to help your situation The area is crap. The best a great mayor in Salisbury can do is ease some tax burdens and make it a little easier for people to do business. A Salisbury mayor can't change anything outside of city limits or what the state does. No business is coming to Salisbury because no one has any real education. Why would a big company move to that area? The only people that will open a business there is the same people that keep opening businesses that keep failing. They are trying hard. The uneducated people of the area will praise a new local business then bash it if it's not to perfection or talk bad about the owners. Owning a business in Salisbury is like politics. Everyone feels they have to know your business and what you do with your private life. If you don't live like a saint and someone is jealous, they get on here and bash you. That is the state of the Salisbury area. Get out! You will be happier, I know I am. When you leave, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
Jim Ireton needs to go immediately. I read that article and we are foreclosing on properties in Salisbury five times faster then any other area in the state. I support Joe because he will bring jobs to the area. You'd have to be stupid to vote for Jim again.
I agree with 9:43am. This is a criminalized/ex-inmate environment. Foreclosures is high. There are NO good paying jobs. And, this city is SOOOOOOO divided. I'm leaving real soon. I can't stand this city. Too criminalized for me.I wish I had NEVER came back.

It is surprising to me who NO ONE, except a few around this area and you of course, can not realize that more jobs equal higher tax base which means revenue for the city... It also means we who have extra monies will go out and spend said monies on things we may wanr or like but not need... This helps the econony as a whole...
Obama, and O'mally and everyone else does not see this or they just don't care...
My question to all: The people whom live in SBY or even the State of MD, how much more money do they need to take before you say this is enough?
How much more money does the govt need to send to other countries who despise us instead of using it here? then go on trips to promote tax increases and the like? whom tell us we need to cut back and share and do our part and the other crap where as the govt then takes said monies and gives it to the Muslim brotherhood who runs Egypt...
Since 1968, the plaza has been dying and the answers to it's death are easy. Free parking, open the plaza to a one way road with 45 degree parking on one side. Give new businesses a 3 year tax moratorium, get rid of the oblisk and let the free market take care of itself.
Ireton and Mitchell had time to go to the democratic convention, but no time to invest in getting jobs to relocate here.
Ireton wants more grant money for affordable housing when many of the homes here in Salisbury sit and rot.
Looks like many of those homes wouldn't take much money for Habitat to turn them over to people so they can invest and become home owners instead of renters.
I heard someone the other day say you can't blame Ireton for something that happened more than 4 years ago. I explained on yes I can! He is being backed by the SAME people that ran Salisbury into the ground. Voting for Ireton is saying you want Barry back in office.

That being said you should also not forget that voters nationwide did not vote for jobs but rather entitlements therefore making your task to be elected as a jobs guy that much harder.
Anyone who thinks VA and/or DE are better should go. Do not pass Go do not collect $200 and do not let the door hit you in the rear as you depart. Those of you on here with your less than 6th grade education can tag along. And do let's create another job title! Just do the work and don't worry about what you are called.
The homes up and down my street are changing to rental units. Most of the homes were around the $250K range in 2006. Since then some of the homes were on the market for sale for years and now have become rental units. The usual tenants are college kids who don't give a poop about the property or how it affects home values when they trash it. Most of the mortages are upside down and the county assessment continues to go down BUT NOT THE TAXES. One home on the corner which has been on the market for 2 1/2 years still has DAY campaign signs all in the yard, the owner lives out of town.
O'Malley has made it impossible to stay in MD. and Ireton has made it totally impossible to stay in Salisbury; I wll pass GO and I am highly educated probably because I was not born here but I've been here 25 years and enough is enough!
We don't need more boosters -- unless taxes are cut, nothing will save us.

I was not all that impressed with the article. In my younger days, I worked in an attorney's office. The article made it sound like all Salisbury's problems could be solved by receivership action. Not even close. Receivership is a tough last resort. Is Ireton on something?

Ireton has got to go and he needs to take that wannabe, unqualified racist acting chief with him. Ireton didn't want him 2 years ago and nothing has changed. He just gets his jollies off know he is in a political war with his once long time friend Debbie Campbell. He is to stupid this fiasco is going to ruin his re-election bid. The city is laughing at him over this because there is more important business that need to be taken care of in this city than fighting over an acting fire chief you don't want and who is a liability to the city.

Maybe if Ireton had spent less time trying to ruin those who disagree with him and more time getting jobs here, there would be some people to fill a lot of those houses.

I can remember when the oblisk came to salisbury. Everyone that was there on the plaza thought it was the ugliest thing ever made. We nic-named it the "Silver Pickle" This too was done in a desperate attempt to keep all business in the old section of town and block any malls. We knew back then that the "good ole boy" network in this town was only looking out for themselves and wanted to stop anything new. One businessman in particular fought any and all change and convinced all of the others to follow his lead. Everyone was frightened to do otherwise. I knew as a kid that this was going on and I also knew it was holding the city back. We need progressive people runnoing things in this area. New blood. I'm afraid nothing has changed and in many ways it was doomed from the 60s. As long as a "FEW" run everything... we are doomed to repeat history to the same end.
