Florida gang members are organizing COVID-19 parties for up to 400 people with the intention of spreading the virus, sheriff claims
A Florida sheriff has warned that gang members are organizing large COVID-19 parties of up to 400 people to spread the virus among themselves.
Osceola County Sheriff Russ Gibson said 'residents are afraid' after more than 600 noise complaints were filed since March due to massive parties attended by hundreds of people and hosted in vacation rental homes.
Shocking video released by the sheriff's office shows dozens of cars blocking off a roadway in early July where a large group of people gathered to dance and party in the street.

SF Police Commission Orders Police Stations to Display Black Lives Matter Posters
The San Francisco Police Commission voted this week to require police stations throughout the city to display Black Lives Matter posters, despite pushback from union members.
The left-wing and Marxist Black Lives Matter political organization has been at the forefront of calls for police to be defunded across the country in the wake of the death of George Floyd, a black man who died in police custody in Minneapolis in May.

Minneapolis City Council Declares Racism a ‘Public Health Emergency’
The Minneapolis City Council on Friday approved a resolution declaring racism a “public health emergency” in the Democrat-controlled city following civil unrest triggered by the death of George Floyd.
The resolution reads that “racism in all its forms causes persistent discrimination and disparate outcomes in many areas of life, including housing, education, health, employment, public safety and criminal justice; exacerbated further by the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.”

Leftists Flip Out As Feds Descend On Portland to Bring Peace to the Streets – Democrat Leaders Blame Trump For Violence While Ignoring BLM Rioters
In the wake of the George Floyd death, the protests and riots in most cities ground to a halt after a week so. But not in Portland. Portland has been protesting literally every night since late May. Many of these protests devolve into unlawful assemblies as violent leftists start to throw rocks and other debris at police, and it’s not uncommon for the police to declare these riots.
But mayor Ted Wheeler, governor Kate Brown, and the Portland police command staff seemingly let the rioters take the city, as police are told to stand down and not impede the mob as businesses are destroyed and looted, fires are started in the streets, random bystanders are assaulted, and government buildings are vandalized and set on fire.
However, once the Black Lives Matter mob set their sites on the Hatfield Federal Courthouse, they opened up a new front. After the building was hit with all sorts of graffiti, windows were smashed, and fireworks were shot inside, federal agents and officers then got involved. These are evidently a mixture of Federal Protective Services officers, Customs and Border Protection, US Marshals, and other federal agents.
Since the rioters aren’t dealing with the weak kneed city and county leaders on federal property, US District Attorney Billy Williams is pursuing charges against several of the terrorists, and the feds have been making several arrests over the last week or so.

Scientists identify six different 'types' of Covid-19 each based on 'cluster of symptoms' which will help monitor those must vulnerable to catching it
Coronavirus comes in six different forms and each has a ‘particular cluster of symptoms’, scientists revealed.
Data gathered by King’s College London’s Covid Symptom Study app was used to predict which patients will require hospitalisation based on their early symptoms.
Experts said the findings could have important implications for identifying and treating those who are more vulnerable and will suffer from a severe type of Covid ahead of a possible second wave.

Prosecutor John Durham reveals the report into 'spying' on Trump's campaign will be released by the end of summer and says: 'The American people deserve to hear this story'
John Durham, the U.S. Attorney who is heading a criminal inquiry into the Russiainvestigation, is to release his findings by the end of the summer.
The review, which became a criminal investigation last fall, has been derided by Democrats as simply a scheme to damage President Trump's Democrat rivals before November's election.
But Department of Justice spokeswoman Kerri Kupec, said that the report was not the 'goal' of the criminal investigation but that it will be 'pivotal to the restoration of that one tiered system of justice.'
'There is a story to be told there. The American people deserve resolution, and frankly, justice deserves resolution,' Kupec stated on behalf of Durham.
Attorney General William Barr said last month that he believed there would be developments in Durham's investigation 'before the end of the summer.'

NY pub sells ‘Cuomo Chips’ to comply with governor’s regulations
All that and a bag of “Cuomo Chips.”
A New York pub has figured out a cheap and easy way to comply with Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s order that bars sales of alcoholic beverages without food: simply selling them a $1 bag of potato chips.
The governor’s new edict says patrons must be seated and order a food item in order to get drinks as part of an effort to curb large booze-fueled gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In upstate Saratoga Springs, Harvey’s Irish Pub Owner Matthew Bagely immediately put “Cuomo Chips” on customers’ tabs — so they don’t have to pay for a full meal.
“I mean why not, they’re his chips, they’re his rule so he might as well get some recognition and acknowledgment for another little hurdle we have to jump through as business owners,” Bagely told CBS6-WRGB in Albany
“For the time being until we have more information — that’s food. And you can buy it for a dollar,” he said.

Sen. Josh Hawley Asks Attorney General to Look Into Investigation of Gun-Owning Couple
Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., urged Attorney General William Barr on Thursday to launch a civil rights investigation into the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office that is “threatening to prosecute” a couple that defended their home with firearms.
In a letter to Barr, Hawley wrote that Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner’s decision to investigate lawyers Mark and Patricia McCloskey was an “unacceptable abuse of power and [a] threat to the Second Amendment.”
The McCloskeys were investigated after confronting protesters with firearms, Gardner’s office said in a statement. Protesters broke down the gate to the McCloskeys’ home and marched the driveway in St. Louis, Missouri, on June 28, according to video of the incident.
Gardner’s office is “threatening to prosecute not the trespassers, but the McCloskeys” and permitted police to seize the McCloskeys’ firearms, Hawley wrote, citing a KMOV4 article. The police have filed for warrants, but no charges have been filed against the McCloskeys, KMOV4 reported Thursday.

Florida man in his 20s listed among COVID-19 fatalities — but health officer says he died in motorcycle crash
'But you can actually argue that it could have been the COVID-19 that caused him to crash'
While Florida listed a man in his 20s as among the state's COVID-19 fatalities, a county health officer told WOFL-TV that the man died in a motorcycle crash.
The station was looking into records that showed two individuals in their 20s as coronavirus fatalities and asked Orange County Health Officer Dr. Raul Pino if either person had any underlying conditions.
Pino's on-camera reply to WOFL?
"The first one didn't have any. He died in a motorcycle accident," he said.
The station then asked Pino if the man's data was removed.
"I don't think so. I have to double-check," Pino replied to WOFL. "We were arguing, we were discussing, and trying to argue with the state. Not because of the numbers — I mean, it's a hundred; it [doesn't] make any difference if it's 99. But ... the fact that the individual ... didn't die from COVID-19, died in [the] crash. But you can actually argue that it could have been the COVID-19 that caused him to crash. So I don't know the conclusion of that one."

Facebook Appoints Corrupt Mueller Prosecutor As “Content Policy Chief”
In a stunning move, Facebook announced yesterday that they have hired former lead Stone prosecutor and Mueller witch-hunt conspirator Michael Marando to be their “Chief Counsel” who will be in charge of setting content guidelines.
During the pre-trial jury selection process, Marando and Judge Amy Berman Jackson tried to arrest this GP journalist for exposing the blatant jury bias unfolding as the jurors were evaluated and selected in the early days of Stone’s November trial in 2019.
This Gateway Pundit reporter joined Owen Shroyer during his War Room show on Infowars to discuss the hiring of Mr. Marando and why it signals the long expected death of remaining conservative or right-leaning accounts that support America First policies and the re-election of President Trump on Facebook.

EXCLUSIVE: Democrat Fundraising Machine ‘ActBlue Texas’ Caught Paying Out Small Sums to Hundreds of Individuals for Unknown Purposes
The Gateway Pundit reported on May 30th the recent riots in Democrat-led cities around the country were coordinated and related to three main groups: 1) US based Islamist Organizations, 2) Domestic terrorists, and 3) Others related to the Democrat Party.
There clearly was no reason for the mass riots taking place around the country after the death of the individual at the hands of the police in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Everyone who saw the police brutality was appalled and outraged at the sight of the policeman kneeling on the victims neck for an incredibly long period of time. The man died. But nothing warrants the wholesale destruction of property, the murder and and riots around the US since that event.

White House accuses GOP governor of 'revisionist history' over op-ed criticizing Trump
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Thursday accused Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) of engaging in “revisionist history” for writing a scathing criticism of President Trump’s coronavirus response.
Asked about Hogan’s Washington Post op-ed, published earlier Thursday, McEnany argued that his criticisms were out of step with some of his previous remarks about the federal government’s response to the virus.
“It’s really striking, his comments, especially when you compare them to his past comments,” McEnany told reporters. “This is revisionist history by Gov. Hogan.”

Smithsonian yanks controversial teaching graphic insisting rational thinking, hard work are linked to 'whiteness'
That was fast
The Smithsonian's National Museum for African American History & Culture removed a controversial graphic on "whiteness" from its website.
The museum took heavy fire over the last several days for the teaching graphic, which insisted that whiteness encompassed traits like placing priority on the nuclear family, hard work, and Christianity.

The museum, in a late Thursday statement, announced that it removed the graphic from its website following the outcry.
The statement began, "At the National Museum of African American History and Culture, we believe that any productive conversation on race must start with honesty, respect for others, and an openness to ideas and information that provide new perspectives."
"In that context, we recently unveiled 'Talking About Race,' an online portal providing research, studies, and other academic materials from the fields of history, education, psychology, and human development," the statement explained. "Our goal in doing so was to contribute to a discussion on this vitally important subject that millions of Americans are grappling with."

Maryland’s governor touts his purchase of tests from South Korea. Emails show a U.S. company offered tests at a lower price.
As Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan negotiated receipt of 500,000 coronavirus tests from South Korea this spring, a domestic test distributor tried to sell the state a million or more federally authorized tests at less than two-thirds the price, according to emails between the distributor and a state health official.
Hogan (R) announced his acquisition in April as an “exponential, game-changing step forward” in the state’s coronavirus-fighting efforts. He has repeatedly described the purchase as an example of how Maryland took the initiative in responding to the pandemic in the face of inaction by the Trump administration.
In an essay adapted from his forthcoming book, “Still Standing,” that was published in The Washington Post on Thursday, Hogan wrote that he and his Korean-born wife, Yumi, arranged to buy the tests from South Korea because Maryland had “nowhere else to turn.”

'This isn't about the virus anymore': Restaurant owners react to Wolf's latest order
Bars and restaurants in York County are grappling with new COVID-19 restrictions from Gov. Tom Wolf just a month after reopening for indoor service.
"This isn’t about the virus anymore," said James DeLisio Jr., owner of Race Horse Tavern in Jackson Township and president of the York County chapter of the Pennsylvania Licensed Beverage and Tavern Association.
DeLisio said the governor's orders don't make sense if the purpose is to control the spread of the coronavirus.
Under the new order, alcohol may only be served for on-site consumption if the customer is also eating a meal, and bar service is prohibited for both alcohol and food. All customers must be seated at a table.
"You can go to a table and have a cheeseburger and a beer, but you can’t do it at the bar," DeLisio said. "How does this virus know you’re at a table and not a bar?"

Dr. Fauci's new coronavirus warning is the scariest one so far
The world is pretty freaked out over coronavirus as it is, but now Dr. Anthony Fauci has come out and said that coronavirus could beat the Spanish Flu -- yeah, the pandemic that killed tens of millions in the early 1900s.
Dr. Fauci said: "If you look at the magnitude of the 1918 pandemic where anywhere from 50 to 75 to 100 million people globally died, that was the mother of all pandemics and truly historic. I hope we don't even approach that with [COVID-19] but it does have the makings of, the possibility of approaching that in seriousness. This is a pandemic of historic proportions. I think we can't deny that fact. It's something I think that when history looks back on it, it will be comparable to what we saw in 1918".
He added: "That was influenza, this is coronavirus, that essentially thrust itself onto the human population. It had two characteristics that are the thing that make it, as I say, 'the perfect storm.' And that is a virus that jumps species, but that almost immediately has an extraordinarily, capable and efficient way of spreading from human to human. Simultaneously with having a considerable degree of morbidity and mortality".

FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH LISTED AS ‘COVID-19 DEATH’ IN FLORIDA, SAYS STATE OFFICIAL
Growing skepticism over how Covid-19 cases and deaths are recorded
A man who died in a motorcycle accident in Florida was listed as a Covid-19 death, according to a state official, adding to the growing skepticism over Florida’s “record” numbers after hundreds of labs in the state claimed that every person who was tested was ‘positive’ for COVID-19.
The death of the man, who was in his 20s, raised eyebrows with local media who are now questioning how the state is counting Covid-19 cases and deaths.
Fox 35 asked Orange County Health Officer Dr. Raul Pino if the man had any underlying conditions in addition to Covid-19, and was told that he “didn’t have any. He died in a motorcycle accident.”

Fatal Motorcycle Crash Listed as COVID-19 Death in Florida
A young Florida resident who died in a motorcycle accident is included in the state’s official COVID-19 death count, a state official reveals.
FOX 35 News in Orlando discovered this after asking Orange County Health Officer Dr. Raul Pino about two young COVID-19 patients in their twenties who died, and whether they had any preexisting conditions that contributed to their deaths.
“The first one didn’t have any. He died in a motorcycle accident,” Pino said.
Despite this shocking answer, Pino was not aware of this person’s data being removed from the state tally when asked.
“I don’t think so. I have to double-check,” Pino answered. “We were arguing, discussing, or trying to argue with the state. Not because of the numbers — it’s 100…it doesn’t make any difference if it’s 99 — but the fact that the individual didn’t die from COVID-19…died in the crash.”
Despite this, Pino then speculated that COVID-19 could have been a contributing factor to the fatal accident.

UNIVERSITY TO MANDATE ‘RACE AND ETHNICITY’ COURSE FOR ALL STUDENTS
Racial re-education will be a requirement for study at the institute
Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia is to mandate that all of its students take a “Race and Ethnicity Requirement” course from next year, following consistent demands from the university’s black student group.
Campus Reform reports that the university wants all students to understand “how racial and ethnic antagonisms and inequality develop historically.”
“After careful consideration over the past six years, and in ongoing consultation with faculty, students, and administrators, the Emory College Faculty Senate and the Working Group on the Undergraduate Curriculum concur that Emory University has a particular obligation and opportunity to focus a diversity requirement on the crucial role of race and ethnicity in shaping our institutions, and in furthering students’ understanding of current domestic and international political and social relations,” a statement reads.
Black students at the university have been lobbying for the move for over five years.
Back in 2015 a letter from the group noted that it was “still reeling at injustices made by the University and the lack of adequate action.”
The students demanded that officials at the university “understand and then appropriately address the mental stress incurred by Black Students at this institution on a daily basis.”

"This Stock Market Will Eat You Soon Enough"
Captain George Pollard Jr. was hungry. Actually, he was starving. He’d been drifting aboard a small whaleboat with some of his crew in the South Pacific for over two months.
The sun was ravaging. The thirst was unquenchable. The meagre food rations had taken their toll. Thus, Pollard did what he had to do to survive. He took a deep breath, said a prayer…then he devoured his 18-year-old cousin, Owen Coffin.
The grim action was taken on honest terms. Mr. Coffin’s full commitment to the meal was decided fair and square. After nine week’s adrift at sea, with nothing but saltwater saturated bread that dehydrated the men as they ate, the starving crew practiced an ancient custom of the sea. They drew lots to determine who would be eaten. Coffin lost.
The trouble for Pollard and his crew began weeks earlier. In November 1820, they’d been harpooning a pod of sperm whales when something awful happened. An angry 85-foot-long whale smashed head-on into the captain’s ship, The Essex of Nantucket, sinking it to the ocean’s bottom. This distressing shipwreck inspired Herman Melville’s, Moby-Dick.

Excuse Me? Look What's Buried Way Down in That WaPo Piece About How New Gun Purchases Led to Spikes in Crime
The June background check numbers were insane. With the beginning of the COVID lockdowns and the George Floyd riots that followed, scores of law-abiding Americans have flocked to gun stores. This isn’t shocking. The Floyd riots showed that the police cannot protect you all the time, and when coupled with political leadership that hates and hamstrings cops, the results are even more chaotic. Minneapolis looks likes something out of Sarajevo c. 1992. New York City was engulfed by the leftist mob. Looting, arson, and vandalism were hallmark characteristics in cities seen across the country during the mayhem, and cops were beaten, run over with cars, and fired upon by these thugs. Given the behavior of the mob, there’s no wonder why June gun sales were astronomical. There are now nearly 10 million new gun owners, but somehow legal gun purchases have caused a spike in crime. Yeah, that’s what you’d expect to hear from a liberal publication (via WaPo) [emphasis mine]:
That gun-buying binge is associated with a significant increase in gun violence across the United States.
Those are the conclusions of two studies by the Brookings Institution and the University of California at Davis, respectively. Together, they paint a portrait of a society arming itself against social upheaval during a time of institutional failure.

Governor Hogan and the test kits, The Hill's article...

Maryland governor was offered coronavirus tests from domestic distributor while complaining about US supply: report
BY KAELAN DEESE - 07/17/20 11:12 AM EDT
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) reportedly turned down offers for more than a million COVID-19 tests from authorized U.S. suppliers this spring while complaining he had no choice but to import 50Hogan wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post this week describing how he and his wife, Yumi Hogan, saw the purchase as a necessity because Maryland had "nowhere else to turn." In the op-ed, hVohrer said he once again reached out to Whitaker following Hogan's announcement, telling the Post that distributors had informed state officials they could supply the tests quickly and less expensively.Co-Diagnostics, Ricci said, approached the government of Maryland one week after an agreement was met with LabGenomics.
“Thanks to our partnership with LabGenomics and South Korea, we had the opportunity to upgrade to better, faster tests, which is critical at a time when a number of states are experiencing testing shortages," he said. "In this crisis, as diagnostic technology continues to make rapid advances, we are doing all we can to stay ahead of the game so we can find and fight the virus.”

"The test I discussed with you is manufactured domestically, [by] Co-Diagnostics, and is $12.00 for the volume being purchased from Korea," the email said, according to the Post. "Volumes above one million units can get even better pricing, as low as $10."
Co-Diagnostics said they gained authorization to ship tests domestically in mid-March, with CEO Dwight Egan telling the Post that the company would have been "very anxious and capable" of processing a large order from the state.
Hogan spokesman Michael Ricci told The Hill that Maryland signed an agreement for tests with the South Korean company, LabGenomics, on April 2, 14 days after U.S. manufacturers said they could provide test kits domestically but before Vohrer's pitch to Whitaker.e criticized the Trump administration for what he called inaction amid the pandemic.
"Eventually, it was clear that waiting around for the president to run the nation's response was hopeless; if we delayed any longer, we'd be condemning more of our citizens to suffering and death. So every governor went their own way," Hogan wrote in the op-ed published Thursday.
However, the Post reported that in April, U.S. manufacturers of kits could send tests to domestic labs by the millions. Experts said that testing was limited by other supplies at the time, including nasal swabs and chemical reagents for processing purposes.0,000 test kits from South Korea.
Emails obtained by The Washington Post reveal details about one domestic distributor's attempts to offer the state test kits at a lower price than what was offered from South Korean manufacturers.
"We had a call, presented what we had, and basically, I heard nothing back," Maryland-based sales consultant Rick Vohrer told the Post of an April 10 phone conversation between himself; the state health department's deputy director of governmental affairs, Jake Whitaker; and representatives of a Florida-based group distributing tests manufactured by Co-Diagnostics.
After the phone call, Vohrer also sent an email reviewing the test kit's emergency use authorization by the Food and Drug Administration.
Ten days after the call, Hogan announced the deal with the South Korean manufacturer, paying nearly $9.5 million for the shipment, or an average of around $18 per test.
Hogan said that he and his wife had been working on the deal since March 28.

Questions Swirl Over Ghislaine Maxwell's Wealth, Suspected 'CFR Member' Husband
As Ghislaine Maxwell prepares to spend a long twelve months at a New York detention center while awaiting trial on charges of sex-trafficking minors and other crimes, questions are swirling over the British socialite's wealth and marital status after claims made by US prosecutors during a virtual court hearing this week.
According to Assistant US Attorney Alison Moe, Maxwell's claims that she has less than $1 million in the bank and no monthly income is "implausible," according to Bloomberg. Her lawyers have suggested that the 58-year-old is far less wealthy than people believe, despite the fact that she was an integral part of deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein's life - who left an estimated $630 million estate behind after he was found dead in a Manhattan jail cell last year.
At the bail hearing, prosecutors said they’d identified more than 15 different bank accounts associated with Maxwell from 2016 to the present with balances ranging from hundreds of thousands of dollars to more than $20 million. She sold a Manhattan townhouse for $15 million in 2016 and still has one in London that she offered as a bail guarantee.
It’s also unclear whether Maxwell has access to funds from an unidentified spouse mentioned by prosecutors Tuesday. She previously toured the secluded New Hampshire estate where she was arrested July 2 with a man who said he was her husband. According to prosecutors, the property was actually purchased by Maxwell for $1 million in cash using a limited liability company. After she was arrested, she told authorities she didn’t know the name of the company that owned the house and that she merely had permission to stay there. -Bloomberg
According to prosecutors, over $20 million was transferred from Epstein-linked offshore accounts to Maxwell - of which millions were later transferred back. Maxwell sued Epstein's estate in March to cover her legal costs, asserting that the financier promised to financially provide for her.
Meanwhile, a Swiss Trust holding over $4 million may be at her disposal as well.

Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg Says She Is Dealing With "A Recurrence Of Liver Cancer"
After being discharged from hospital over fears of an infection earlier in the week, Scupreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsbrug has issued a statement confirming her health status and her capabilities of fulfilling her commitments.
Full Statement from Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg:
On May 19, I began a course of chemotherapy (gemcitabine) to treat a recurrence of cancer. A periodic scan in February followed by a biopsy revealed lesions on my liver. My recent hospitalizations to remove gall stones and treat an infection were unrelated to this recurrence.
Immunotherapy first essayed proved unsuccessful. The chemotherapy course, however, is yielding positive results. Satisfied that my treatment course is now clear, I am providing this information.
My most recent scan on July 7 indicated significant reduction of the liver lesions and no new disease. I am tolerating chemotherapy well and am encouraged by the success of my current treatment. I will continue bi-weekly chemotherapy to keep my cancer at bay, and am able to maintain an active daily routine. Throughout, I have kept up with opinion writing and all other Court work.
I have often said I would remain a member of the Court as long as I can do the job full steam. I remain fully able to do that.
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton raises a good question: "Justice Ginsburg has had liver cancer since February. And the public was not informed until today."

Kayleigh McEnany is so effective that the MSM is now lying by deceptively editing her comments
Yesterday saw a new low in irresponsible media reporting on a briefing by a presidential press secretary. Many media outlets outright lied about what Kayleigh McEnany said by cutting her off in mid-sentence in a comment on school reopening, thereby creating an impression that was opposite of the truth.
Becket Adams of the Washington Examiner explains and presents multiple examples of lies reported by the propaganda media:
White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Wednesday tried to explain President Trump’s position that schools in the United States should re-open sooner rather than later.
“The president has said, unmistakably, that he wants schools to open. And I was just in the [Oval Office] talking to him about that. And when he says ‘open,’ he means, ‘open in full’ – kids being able to attend each and every day at their school,” she told reporters at a White House press briefing.

Democrats Play Politics With Schools, But It’s Not the First Time
Twenty-two European countries reopened their schools back in May, and it did not cause “any significant increase in coronavirus infections among children, parents, or staff.” In the months that have followed, more evidence has emerged that children are not only far less susceptible to getting sick from COVID-19, they are not transmitting it. Extended school shutdowns, however, have taken a much greater toll on kids’ mental, emotional, and physical health.
Yet Democrats are making it controversial to return to school. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi ignores the science, saying, “going back to school presents the biggest risk.” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio limits school to only one to three days a week and California Governor Gavin Newsom cancels in-person school for the entire academic year. Why? For the same reason Democrats block low-income kids from leaving failing schools to get a better education: the teachers unions tell them to.
A French study of over 1,300 people in one coronavirus outbreak found just three probable cases among kids, and they didn’t lead to more infections among adults. Rather than the rumored fearmongering of kids as “super-spreaders,” it was parents who infected their children — not the other way around.

Governors and Education Leaders Call for Funding and Flexibility to Ensure Student Safety in Fall
WASHINGTON—In a letter to congressional leaders, the National Governors Association (NGA) and groups representing state K-12 education agencies, local school boards, universities, community colleges, educators, the civil rights community and the special education community urged Congress to provide the significant resources necessary for schools to balance learning and safety in the fall, while respecting the long-standing principles of state and local control that govern our education systems.
As Congress considers the next round of COVID-19 relief, the groups requested that Congress provide substantial funding for the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund, K-12 education and higher education institutions to have the resources to address the challenges presented by the ongoing pandemic and to prioritize learning and safety.
“To ensure the safety of communities, educational equity, and to allow for in-person and online delivery of education, increased federal investment is critical,” the groups said in their letter.
The state and education leaders also called on Congress to prohibit conditions on COVID-19 education relief funding that would seek to define or mandate specific models of K-12 or higher education reopening.
In addition to NGA, the letter to Republican and Democratic leadership in the House and Senate was signed by the Council of State Governments, the American Federation of Teachers, the National School Boards Association, the National Association of State Boards of Education, State Higher Education Executive Officers, the National Center for Learning Disabilities, the Association of Community College Trustees, the National Association of State Directors of Special Education and the Council of Administrators of Special Education.
