Chuck Schumer calls for crackdown on ‘snortable chocolate’

Snortable chocolate is so dangerous that its health effects must be investigated by the feds, Sen. Charles Schumer is urging.

Coco Loko — a raw cacao powder infused with a “special energy blend” — is marketed like a drug and should be closely regulated, Schumer demanded in a letter to the Food and Drug Administration Saturday.

Teens have been buzzing for months about the caffeinated powder but little is known about its health effects, the lawmaker said.

“I can’t think of a single parent who thinks it is a good idea for their children to be snorting over-the-counter stimulants up their noses,” Schumer blasted. “This suspect product has no clear health value.”

The FDA hasn’t said yet whether it has the authority to regulate the snuff-like chocolate.

Woman contracts flesh-eating bacteria while fishing with her husband

A 70-year-old woman nearly lost her hand after contracting flesh-eating bacteria while fishing with her husband on Alabama’s Gulf Coast last week. The unidentified woman reportedly reached into a bucket of live shrimp bait and pricked the back of her hand, though it was not clear if the infection was a result of the shrimp or the water they were fishing in that then entered the wound, Gulf Coast News Today reported.

The woman’s husband, whose name was also withheld, told the news outlet that her hand began to swell and she experienced fever, chills and headaches within three hours of getting cut. They drove back to Mississippi where she was admitted to the hospital for emergency surgery, and has since spent more than 10 days recovering.

“They removed a lot of tissue from her hand and forearm,” the woman’s husband told Gulf Coast News Today. “The culture came back as vibrio.”

Feminists Start The #VaginaChallenge To Raise Money For Planned Parenthood

It’s time for you chumps to expand your vocabulary. Let’s face it. This world is far to male-centric. The patriarchy still continues to dictate the words that come out of our mouths, even though we don’t realize it. Wanna know how I know that?

“Vagina.” People are afraid to say the world, “vagina.” At least, according to SheKnows health editor Elizabeth Yuko. She believes we need to change that. In fact, “vagina” should become part of our “everyday vocabulary.”

“But it’s not just old white dude doctors who are uncomfortable with vaginas,” she writes. “Different surveys have found that between 35 and 65 percent of women are uncomfortable saying the word “vagina.” Translation: We’ve been so conditioned to think of women’s bodies as shameful or inappropriate that we have trouble using the correct term for a part of our own anatomy. That’s messed up.”

No. That translation is messed up. I don’t think women are afraid to say the word vagina. We just don’t think it’s an interesting subject to bring up in every day conversations. “Penis” doesn’t come up in everyday conversations either, but it’s not because people are afraid to say it. It’s because people generally don’t want to talk about male junk during their lunch break. Same goes for vaginas. Unfortunately for me, “vagina” is already practically part of my everyday vocabulary. #ThanksFeminists.

Here’s how certain CNN was that Trump WOULDN’T bring up election meddling with PUTIN…

CNN is being mocked (again), this time for their amazing anonymous source that said that Trump would absolutely NOT bring up the Russians meddling in our election in his meeting with his BFF Putin.

Marco Rubio’s press dude Matt Wolking posted these fun screenshots on twitter:

So. Yeah. Some anonymous sources are better than others I guess.

Now here are your sooper-caveats. We don’t know that he brought it up. He said he did, and the Russians said he did, and then they say they concluded something completely different. Trump isn’t known for being terribly accurate about these things.

Further, the fact that he’s so unpredictable means that the report might have been accurate – the plan MIGHT have been to not talk about meddling in the election. Trump could have told his aides that and then completely changed the plan while he was being charmed by the leprechaun president of Russia.

Report: Feds Cancel Plans For New FBI Headquarters

After months of lobbying by Maryland and local officials to be the new consolidated home of the FBI, the federal government is putting the kibosh on the project.

The Washington Post reports the federal government is canceling the decade-long project. The paper reports officials with the General Services Administration will announce the decision in a call with bidders Tuesday morning, and meetings on Capitol Hill.

The plan would have been paid for by selling the J. Edgar Hoover Building to a developer and kicking in nearly $2 billion to fund the rest.

Underestimating the Trumps. America underestimated the Reagans, too

Mark my words – the wind is turning. Donald and Melania Trump are leaders – persistent, consistent, from the heart. Some expected this, many did not. But underestimating these two would be a profound mistake.

The first clear turn signal was the Inauguration speech. It was concise, incisive, blunt and uncompromising. No more blah-blah and calculated pampering, national self-derision or happy talk for the sake of media approval. No more pretending personal differences and sincere opinions were bad, individual character and national sacrifice irrelevant, honor and history no longer material.

To those who wished America would again be proud of who we are, the speech affirmed that long tunnels do end and light does exist, even after years of economic and moral malaise, even with security threats mounting and international respect declining. The future is what we make it; it should be an extension of our proud past, not a departure from it.

Then came the disciplined and bipartisan State of the Union speech. Those clad in white on the Left, who dared not clap or stand, could barely believe their ears. The president was compelling, honest, and inclusive. He spoke to all Americans, not just supporters. He validated them, offered answers, summoned higher angels. The Left was confused.

Antibiotic resistance has led to unstoppable levels of gonorrhea

The common sexually-transmitted disease gonorrhea is becoming nearly impossible to treat due to antibiotic resistance, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned.

"The bacteria that cause gonorrhea are particularly smart. Every time we use a new class of antibiotics to treat the infection, the bacteria evolve to resist them," said Dr Teodora Wi, Medical Officer, Human Reproduction, at WHO.

Data collected from 77 countries revealed that the STD has taken on widespread resistance to older and cheaper antibiotics, even in high-income locations.

Adding to the issue is a lack of interest by commercial pharmaceutical companies to develop new antibiotics to treat gonorrhea. Unlike medicines for chronic diseases, treatment for gonorrhea is relatively short, with only drugs taken for short periods of time. That, coupled with the drug's increased antibiotic resistance, means that the supply of new drugs constantly needs to be replenished.

New Program At Furnace Town Spotlights Artisans

SNOW HILL – A new program at Furnace Town Living Heritage Village is giving visitors a chance to expand their knowledge of local history.

Furnace Town is now offering Folk School several times a month. The new program, launched in May, gives attendees the chance to learn skills like broom making and weaving from Furnace Town’s artisans.

“We’ve given guests the opportunity to learn from our artisans,” said Patrick Rofe, executive director of Furnace Town.

Rofe said the Folk School concept had been germinating for several years and that officials decided to finally give it a try this year. Since May, Furnace Town has hosted three Folk School events a month. Typically held on Saturdays, the sessions allow those with an interest in 19th century history to learn key trades from the time period. So far, Furnace Town has hosted weaving, broom making and printing classes. Participants are able to learn from Furnace Town’s regular artisans.

The Hamilton Hustle - Why Have Liberals Embraced America's Most Reactionary Founder?

As Donald Trump settles into The White House, elites in the political class are beginning to recognize that democracy is not necessarily a permanent state of political organization. “Donald Trump’s candidacy is the first time American politics has left me truly afraid,” wrote Vox cofounder Ezra Klein just before the election. Andrew Sullivan argued in New York magazine that American democracy is susceptible, “in stressful times, to the appeal of a shameless demagogue.” Paul Krugman wrote an entire column on why republics end, citing Trump’s violations of political norms. But if you want to understand the politics of authoritarianism in America, the place to start is not with Trump, but with the cool-kid Founding Father of the Obama era, Alexander Hamilton.

I’m not just talking about the actual founder, though we’ll come back to him. I’m talking about the personage at the center of the Broadway musical, Hamilton.

Ocean City’s Broad Appeal Tough To Quantify

Who comes to Ocean City? What type of economic class finds this beach town appealing? How much in household income should the resort target with ad campaigns? Should it be $75,000, $100,000 or more?

Those were some questions asked this week in general terms during a discussion involving the renewal of the city’s advertising vendor contract.

These are easy questions to answer in general terms, but it’s practically impossible to get detailed answers to these questions because this sort of information is not readily provided by visitors.

In anecdotal terms, there is a simple answer to who comes to Ocean City — all types. During the summer months, Ocean City is a melting pot, and we think that’s what makes it so appealing. For proof of this, all one who has to do is go to the beach on a summer day or head to the Boardwalk during a summer night. If you observe and listen, you will conclude Ocean City appeals to a broad range of people.

We’re losing a whole generation of young men to video games

One night in the mid-1990s I tried out a computer game called “Civilization.” You started with a screen that was completely black, except for one square of land. As you pushed outward from this base, you’d make discoveries about the land around you and its inhabitants. You’d start to build a society, first primitive stuff like granaries, then advancing to roads and weapons.

Trade-offs would arise: Should I build a library or a cannon? As your world advanced, you’d run into other civilizations. It was disconcerting to discover somebody else had a battleship while you were working with catapults. As I was journeyed through all of these fascinating challenges, I discovered to my surprise that the sun had come up. Something had gone haywire with time. It was already 7 a.m.

If you had asked me at any point in my relationship to “Civilization” whether I was happy, I would have said no. I was ecstatic. I was euphoric. Making simulated granaries. Building simulated roads. Firing simulated cannon. These were my obsessions.

After a while I realized that becoming master of a fake world was not worth the dozens of hours a month it was costing me, and with profound regret I stashed my floppy disk of “Civilization” in a box and pushed it deep into my closet. I hope I never get addicted to anything like “Civilization” again.

Articles: Trump Grinds the G20, the Bureaucratic Underground, and CNN into Hamburger

This was a week of startling contrasts. The President reasserted (against a decades-long leftist attack on it) the significant achievements of Western civilization and the need to vigorously defend it. His speech prefaced the G20 meeting in Hamburg, where leftists rioted, burned, and looted while the G20 leaders ponced about and wined and dined in style, apparently oblivious to the havoc which their open border policies and multiculturalist mindset had birthed. As Trump worked successfully on trade and defense issues in Europe, his administration was quietly plugging security leaks and maladministration in our own bureaucratic underground.

A. Poland

Western Europe has been blinded by ideological nonsense. On the one hand it has worked assiduously to separate religion and politics. On the other hand, it has welcomed in hordes of Islamists. In contrast, to quote Zoltan Balog, Hungary’s Minister for Human Resources “in the case of Islam it is religion that determines politics.”

Head of Major German Paper Denounces ‘Left-Wing Fascism’ at G20 Summit

The head of Germany’s Die Welt newspaper Ulf Poschardt has denounced the violence caused by left-wing extremists, calling the rioting “the new fascist violence of the left”.

Mr. Poschardt, who serves as the editor in chief of Die Welt, slammed the so-called “black-block” left-extremists in a new column likening them to the Blackshirts who committed acts of political violence under Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini in the 1920s.

“Their black costume reveals that their aesthetic is inspired by Mussolini’s black shirts. They act like fascists. They stir up fear and uncertainty. The Black Block has been turning Hamburg into a civil war landscape since Thursday evening,” he wrote.

Calling the members of the black-block, many of which are neither from Hamburg nor even Germany “adventure tourists,” Poschardt paints the average left-extremist as young men in “late puberty” who have “no more to offer politically than an archaic accumulation of rage and a regime of fear”.

County Jail Joins Information Sharing Project

SNOW HILL – Worcester County will join the list of counties participating in a project aimed at providing criminal justice officials with more information on inmates.

On Wednesday, the Worcester County Commissioners approved a request from Warden Donna Bounds to participate in the Justice Information Sharing Solutions Project sponsored by the Governor’s Coordinating Offices. The project allows participating jurisdictions to share inmate information when an individual is transferred from one agency to another.

“It would allow the exchange of information of inmates and detainees who are transferred from counties throughout the state to Worcester County and vice versa.,” Bounds said.

She said that by participating in the project, the Worcester County Jail would have access to relevant information regarding inmates coming to the county. Through a “Criminal Justice Dashboard,” officials would have access to real time data regarding inmates. Bounds said the data would include alerts in cases where inmates had shown assaultive behavior, for example, or suicidal risk.

Hacked DNC servers: Will government ever be given access?

As President Trump reportedly questions Russian President Vladimir Putin on alleged Russian interference in the U.S. election, there is a growing focus on a different, as-yet-unanswered question: Where are the Democratic National Committee servers that were allegedly breached by Russian hackers, and has anyone in the government been able to look at them?

The notion that Russia interfered with the U.S. election is based in part, if not largely, on an investigation into the DNC's computer servers. The servers themselves, however, have yet to be viewed by a single government agency. Some lawmakers are hoping to change that amid growing questions surrounding the Russia narrative.

What draws the most questions is the fact that CrowdStrike staffers are the only people to ever have investigated the DNC e-mail servers that contain evidence of Russian meddling, despite multiple requests by the FBI. Now, some lawmakers are demanding access as new questions are raised about what else might be in those servers, and why no one in the government has been permitted to look at them.

ICE crackdown scaring some families back to Mexico

President Donald Trump's crackdown on undocumented immigrants by federal agents is scaring some of those families back to Mexico, according to knowledgable sources in the Pueblo community.

According to news reports, federal Immigration and Custom Enforcement agents were told in a February memorandum to detain any undocumented person they encountered -- not just those with a criminal history or those in jails, the previous policy.

That ramped-up enforcement has reportedly led to 14 people in the Pueblo area being arrested by ICE agents this year.

One of those people -- 49-year-old Benito Rubio -- died in a Denver hospital from undetermined causes while in federal custody after being arrested Feb. 28 in Pueblo.

Sources report that some undocumented families have left the area for Mexico rather than run the risk of having a parent arrested or even sentenced to prison for immigration violations.

Mo Brooks in Senate Ad: Fund President Trump’s Border Wall or Face Government Shutdown

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL), a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Alabama, is threatening to shut the government down in the U.S. Senate if his colleagues do not fund President Donald J. Trump’s planned border wall along the U.S. border with Mexico.

Mo Brooks, one of three major candidates in the race to succeed now Attorney General Jeff Sessions for Sessions’ seat, made the threat in a new ad set to air statewide in Alabama on television soon.

“Hi, I’m Mo Brooks, candidate for the Senate, and I approved this message,” Brooks opens the ad, titled “Build The Wall.” The ad was provided exclusively by Brooks’ campaign to Breitbart News ahead of its public release.

Brooks’ clarion call for border wall funding in the government spending bills coming up comes as many in the GOP establishment are not interested in standing with President Trump in ensuring that a wall is built on the U.S. border with Mexico. What he promises in this ad is a guarantee to fight as hard as a U.S. Senator can for the wall.

Senators Urge Governor To Join Seismic Testing Opposition

OCEAN CITY — A renewed effort to open vast areas of ocean floor off the mid-Atlantic coast to potentially dangerous seismic air gun testing led to Maryland’s elected officials firing off a letter this week to Gov. Larry Hogan asking him to intercede on the state’s behalf.

In late April, President Donald Trump signed an executive order reopening vast areas off the mid-Atlantic coast to offshore oil exploration and drilling, renewing a years-long battle that resulted in the previous administration reversing the plan. In June, the Trump administration took initial steps in expediting the plan to explore and potentially drill for oil and gas reserves off the mid-Atlantic coast when he authorized the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) to issue as many as five Incidental Harassment Authorization (IHA) permits, which, if approved, would allow the private sector companies awarded the permits to begin the dangerous practice of seismic air gun testing.

Seismic air gun testing is used to determine what oil and natural gas reserves lie beneath the ocean floor. Seismic air guns essentially shoot blasts of compressed air into the ocean floor each of which is an estimated 100,000 times more intense than the sound of a jet engine. If approved, vessels would tow as many as 30 air guns, which would be fired every 10 seconds continuously 24 hours a day and seven days a week for the duration of the mapping exercise, which could last for several weeks.

Comey Bombshell: FBI Director's Leaked Trump Memos Contained Classified Information

Amid the constant media outrage over everything Trump, Trump, Trump, some might have forgotten that in the political rollercoaster over the past 12 months, there were numerous other high-profile individuals involved, including not only former DOJ head Loretta Lynch, whose every interaction with the Clinton campaign is about to be probed under a Congressional microscope, but the man who some say started it all: former FBI Director James Comey.

First loved by the Democrats when he personally absolved Hillary Clinton of any sins regarding her (ab)use of her personal email server, then furiously loathed when he reopened the FBI probe into Hillary Clinton one week before the election, then finally getting into a feud with President Trump which cost his him job, Comey ultimately admitted to leaking at least one memo which contained personal recollections of his conversations with the president, in hopes of launching a special probe into the president's alleged Russian collusion.

There was just one problem: according to a blockbuster report from The Hill, in addition to the leaked memos, Comey also leaked classified information in gross and direct violation of FBI rules and regulations. And just like that Comey finds himself in trouble. Only not just any trouble, but the virtually same trouble that Hillary Clinton was in in the summer of 2016... and which James Comey was tasked to investigate.

Ohio Sheriff bans deputies from carrying Narcan

The Butler County, Ohio sheriff is standing by his decision not to let deputies carry Narcan, a drug used to revive opioid users who overdose.

“I don’t do Narcan,” Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones told The Cincinnati Inquirer on Thursday.

“They never carried it,” he said of his deputies. “Nor will they. That’s my stance.”

Amid a nationwide opioid crisis, Ohio’s Butler County in particular has suffered substantially. Butler witnessed a record 192 drug overdose deaths in 2016 and is currently on pace to shatter that statistic in 2017. Its coroner’s office saw 96 fatal overdoses during the first three months of the year, including 80 involving opiates, officials announced recently.

Yet while deputies in surrounding Clermont, Hamilton and Warren counties all carry Narcan, Butler’s top cop said he’s opposed to following suit.

“There’s no law that say [sic] police officers have to carry Narcan,” he told NBC News on Friday. “Until there is, we’re not going to use it.”

Using Narcan, according to the sheriff, is neither an effective nor affordable way for Butler to counter the opioid crisis.

Russian lawyer who got inside Donald Trump’s inner circle had been denied US visa

By her own account, the Russian lawyer that managed to slide her way into Trump Tower last year and meet with President Donald Trump’s eldest son, his campaign manager and son-in-law is a former Moscow prosecutor who had been denied a visa to enter the United States.

Natalia Veselnitskaya filed an affidavit in a federal case in New York describing how she managed to get special permission to enter the United States after the visa denial to help represent a Russian company called Prevezon Holdings owned by the Russian businessman Denis Katsyv in a case brought against it by U.S. prosecutors.

“I represent victims in many criminal cases involving economic crimes. I have been retained by Denis Katsyv and the defendants in this action to assist their attorneys in the United States, Baker & Hostetler LLP to prepare their defense,” she wrote in the January 2016 affidavit filed in court in New York City.

“As counsel to Defendants, it is important that I be able to participate in the defense of this action by traveling to the United States. For that reason, I applied for a visa to enter the United States, but was denied,” she added. “I also applied for entry visas for my children, so that they could be together with me over the Christmas holiday while I was working in New York on this lawsuit, but this was also denied. However, the United States did issue a parole letter for me to enter the United States in order to help defend this lawsuit.”

It was apparently during the time she was in the United States on that parole entry that she arranged to meet with Donald Trump Jr., Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner and former campaign manager Paul Manafort on June 9, 2016 at Trump Tower.

Illegal immigration spikes along U.S.-Mexico border

Illegal immigration across the Southwest border rose yet again in June, according to the latest Homeland Security figures released Friday that show a noticeable jump over the last two months.

Border Patrol agents nabbed 16,089 illegal immigrants trying to sneak in, while Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers identified another 5,570 illegal immigrants who showed up without authorization at the ports of entry.

The combined 21,659 illegal immigrants are still the lowest numbers for June in years, but the spike is worrisome because illegal immigration generally begins to slow in the summer months. Indeed, the last four years saw an average drop of 10 percent in Border Patrol apprehensions in June — but this year saw an 11 percent rise.

The number of illegal immigrant children and families also rose sharply.

Actually, any number of things can render these benches uninviting. The Town just needs to use their heads and give the traveling workers a break.

CROSSWALKS

Ocean city has spent a lot of advertising money on telling people to cross their roads at a CROSSWALK. Not a single crosswalk is “labeled” in the entire town and bus drivers will regularly see tourists downtown looking around confused and cross at a point that is not a crosswalk. Yes, a lot of money has been spent paining fake bricks at what the City understands to be a crosswalk but they fail to realize that tourists coming from may places may have never have seen a “crosswalk”. Yes, it sounds stupid (and probably is) but why not label/paint CROSSWALK at these crossings.

McAuliffe's Former Electric Car Company Audited for $6.4M in Repayment to Mississippi

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe's (D.) former electric car company has been audited to repay $6.4 million of public funds to the state of Mississippi.

GreenTech Automotive, which McAuliffe left in 2012, was unable to deliver on its promise to create jobs in the state of Mississippi, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Now Mississippi State Auditor Stacey Pickering is asking for the full sum of $5 million in public loans, along with interest and recovery costs, to be repaid in full within 30 days. He warned GreenTech CEO Charles Wang that failure to pay could result in the state filing a lawsuit against the company.

Pickering told the Times-Dispatch that the litigation, should it arise, could possibly involve McAuliffe.

Baskin Robbins Attempting Tricky Task Of Delivering Unmelted Ice Cream To Your Door

It’s sometimes hard enough getting ice cream home from the supermarket without melting, so imagine the challenge of delivering freshly made sundaes and shakes to customers’ doors. Baskin Robbins, which has been testing ice cream delivery in L.A. and Chicago, now says it’s expanding that service to more than 600 stores around the country.

Why Does The U.S. Government Sue Inanimate Objects?

When Justice Department went after Mesopotamian artifacts imported by Hobby Lobby, the lawsuit was actually filed against the ancient clay artifacts and not the retailer. Likewise, when the government determined that a Las Vegas casino had too much gold, it arrested and sued a solid gold rooster statue. Though they don’t always make headlines, such cases have a long, sometimes hilarious, history in U.S. law.
