JUST IN: Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke resigns
Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, one of the highest-profile members of law enforcement to emerge as a vocal supporter of President Trump, resigned from his position on Thursday.
County Clerk George Christenson said that he received a resignation letter from Clarke but that no reason for the move was provided.
Clarke issued a "retirement statement" to local media hours after his resignation was announced. "After almost forty years serving the great people of Milwaukee County, I have chosen to retire to pursue other opportunities," Clarke wrote. "I will have news about my next steps in the very near future."

Bill And Hillary Clinton Finally Sell Hamptons Mansion
It’s been a rough 12 months for Grandma Never-Gonna-Be-President. First she lost to Donald Trump. And let me repeat that, because it always makes me smile: Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump.* LOL! Then she wrote a book about it, and everybody made fun of the title What Happened. Which is dumb because it’s their fault she lost, not hers. Now, all the booze in the world won’t kill the pain. And she can’t even appoint herself President of the Environment, because that’s Al Gore’s job. Life has been unfair to Hillary Clinton!
But finally there’s a glimmer of good news. Cameron Cawthorne, Washington Free Beacon:
Bill and Hillary Clinton’s summer vacation rental home in the Hamptons sold for $29 million after sitting under contract for nearly two years…
The roughly 10,000-square-foot East Hampton, N.Y. property is on 1.25 acres with 200 feet of ocean frontage. It contains eight bedrooms, all of which have en suite bathrooms, a formal dining room and six fireplaces…
The identity of the buyer has not been determined.

Why Kim Kardashian's Jackie O Cover Shoot Has Sparked Backlash
Kim Kardashian is "America's New First Lady," at least according to Interview Magazine.
The reality TV star went full-Jackie O for the publication's September issue, appearing on the cover and inside photos with daughter North West.
Photographer Steven Klein said his goal was to "capture feminine beauty as an expression of empowerment and self-respect. Also, to highlight Kim in a chic manner that is retrospective of a time and yet modern."
While Kardashian said she will "treasure this shoot forever," social media wasn't as kind.

Charlottesville false narrative crushed by DHS warning
Governor Terry McAuliffe's efforts to evade responsibility for the shocking violence at Charlottesville just got even more implausible. He and local authorities were warned, and yet allowed, if not forced, the two violence-prone parties into such close proximity that violence was a near certainty.
Josh Meyer reports in Politico:
The Department of Homeland Security issued a confidential warning to law enforcement authorities three days before the deadly Aug. 12 Charlottesville protest rally, saying that an escalating series of clashes had created a powder keg that would likely make the event "among the most violent to date" between white supremacists and anarchists.

The Phillips Packing Company Strike of 1937: Black and White Together on the Picket Lines
The next time you drive through Cambridge, Maryland along Route 50, take a good look behind the Wawa convenience store, toward Dorchester Avenue and the western horizon. The towering pair of old smokestacks there have some faded lettering on them, “PPCO,” for Phillips Packing Company. This year marks the 80th anniversary of a big strike there that made headlines around the country back in 1937.
Cambridge was a one-horse town in those days. Phillips Packing Company was the horse. More than 2,000 people worked for the firm, which was competing with Campbell’s for the top spot in the canned food sector in the whole country. That was nearly a quarter of the town’s population at the time.
Most every small business in town—from stores and restaurants to car mechanics and milkmen—relied on the income those workers got from Phillips to makes their own ends meet. Out in the surrounding countryside, thousands more farm owners and their workers depended on Phillips to buy their vegetables.

Mosby Supports Hogan Proposal, Defends Decision On Body Camera Video
State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby on Wednesday defended her decision to drop dozens of charges related to the most recent questionable body camera video to come to light.
"What I've said is that the moment an officer decides to reenact both the discovery and seizure of evidence, excludes that from his statement of probable cause...essentially it becomes a misrepresentation of the truth," Mosby said. "It not only undermines public trust but it also puts indefensible doubts in the minds of jurors and the general public."
Mosby, in studio with C4, also talked about Tuesday's meeting on violent crime called by Gov. Larry Hogan.

Houston Reeling Amid Outbreak Of Looting, Armed Robberies; Vigilantes Emerge
Inevitably every major metropolitan crisis brings out the best and worst of what humanity has to offer. While hundreds/thousands of people have rushed into Houston following the epic destruction of Hurricane Harvey to help in any way possible, others have once again predictably chosen to exploit the misery of others by looting abandoned shopping centers, robbing empty homes and even breaking into the Houston Apple Store (by shooting through the front door).
In fact, just last night Houston's Mayor was forced to impose a strict midnight to 5am curfew amid "an outbreak of looting and armed robberies", in order to prevent property crimes against evacuated homes in the city. As Reuters notes, the curfew came after, among other things, reports surfaced of people impersonating police officers all so they could tell residents to evacuate their homes and then promptly rob them blind.
That proved too little for county officials who set up their own location as an outbreak of looting and armed robberies prompted the city to order an indefinite curfew from midnight to 5 a.m. (0500 to 1000 GMT).
Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said late Tuesday individuals impersonating police officers knocked on doors in at least two parts of the city telling residents to evacuate their homes.

CNN busted when sharp-eyed viewers notice something odd about this "rescue"
“Fake news.” Two words that were hardly ever put together in the same sentence a mere matter of months ago are now uttered and typed thousands of times a day. On multiple occasions Donald Trump has stood in front ofreporters from CNN and called them “fake news”, he’s lambasted the network on his Twitter feed and essentially gone on a crusade against the one-time cable news giant.
It’s not just Trump. Thanks to the internet, millions and millions of eyes are trained onto and looking out for biased if not outright false reporting, and CNN has once again gotten busted for faking a story — and this one is of the most sickening variety.
CNN has been caught leveraging an unfolding natural disaster, Hurricane Harvey, to push its own false narrative.

Images show waves rolling over Texas highway
The first image, taken near Winnie, shows an otherwise unremarkable stretch of highway, rolling out into the horizon.
But the photograph taken Tuesday looks like it came from another world.
Although it's hard to judge quite how deep the water is from this distance, it looks to be at least eight feet high - certainly over the roofs of most cars.
Not far from this spot, convention centers in Houston were overloaded with tens of thousands of evacuees.
More than half of those were crammed into the city's convention center - which was only planned to take around 5,000 people.
The George R Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston, Texas, has a capacity of up to 5,000 people, but Monday night 9,021 people stayed in the center, many sleeping on chairs and on the floor because of a shortage of cots.
Others were being sent to the Toyota Center, the arena that is home to the Houston Rockets NBA team.
Houston mayor Sylvester Turner said the convention center would remain as the primary shelter in Houston.
In Cedar Bayou, Texas, rains reached 51.88 inches Tuesday afternoon.

Kathy Griffin isn't sorry about her Trump photo anymore
Kathy Griffin isn't sorry anymore.
The comedian took back her apology for the stunt in which she held up a fake severed head of President Trump while being interviewed this week in Australia.
"I'm no longer sorry. The whole outrage was BS. The whole thing got so blown out of proportion," said Griffin on Australia's Sunrise show.
The Secret Service investigated Griffin after she released the photo, CNN fired the comedian from her regular gig hosting their New Year's Eve program with Anderson Cooper and her national tour was canceled. Griffin recently revealed she and Cooper are no longer friends.

Public Works Stormwater Drainage Request
Wicomico County Public Works is seeking cooperation from the public in preparing for potential heavy rainfall events that could impact the County over the next 2 weeks. With drainage becoming an issue due to ground that is already saturated, Public Works will be working to clear catch basins and ditches while also sweeping roads to remove loose debris to clear areas so water can enter and flow through the county drainage system efficiently.
We are seeking help from the public to inspect and clear any drainage ditches and swales on their property to insure that proper drainage can occur by removing limbs, leaves, grass clippings or any other debris that can slow or stop the flow of water. Also communities with stormwater ponds are urged to inspect their ponds for floating debris while inspecting and clearing discharge and overflow structures of debris that could have been deposited from previous storms.
With over 700 miles of County roads to maintain all community assistance is appreciated to reduce the potential for flooding in the County.

Banker: 'You Can't Rebuild Houston Without Mexican Labor'
The former president of the Dallas Federal Reserve said that reconstruction can happen in Houston, but not "without Mexican labor," The Wall Street Journal reported.
Richard Fisher told the Journal that if President Donald Trump continues to restrict immigration, the necessary workforce to rebuild Houston might not be as robust.
"All these business will have to be reconstructed," Fisher told the Journal. "That's an enormous opportunity, but you can't rebuild Houston without Mexican labor."

Business owners say they dodged a bullet, just in time for the holiday weekend.
The clouds are clearing, and it’s shaping up to be a beautiful day in Ocean City Wednesday.

Slash Your Medical Bills: 7 Ways to Haggle
Haggling with your hospital or dickering with your doctor to lower your medical bills might feel, well, unseemly. But with health care costs pinching the typical household by about $15,000 a year and employers trimming coverage and shifting expenses to employees, it might be time to try your own personal health care reform.
Rising out-of-pocket costs have motivated many patients to ferret out what was, until recently, a dirty little secret of the medical world: You don’t always have to pay retail. If your health insurance isn’t covering your needs or you lack insurance, you can probably pay less for elective and planned procedures just by speaking up.

If your health insurance isn’t covering your needs or you lack insurance, you can probably pay less for elective and planned procedures just by speaking up.
“People often don’t realize medical bills tend to be eminently negotiable,” says Andrew Cohen, medical debt resolution program manager at The Access Project, a nonprofit health care advocacy group. Greg Voelm, owner of a health care testing company in Sacramento, Calif., and a 35-year veteran of the health care industry, thinks it’s possible to reduce medical bills by as much as 80 percent. But, he says, few people try. “It’s just not something that Americans are trained to do,” Voelm says.
Annette Pappas of Brockton, Mass., a medical billing administrator who has worked in hospitals and doctor’s offices, haggled over her own steep fees after developing breast cancer in 2005 while self-employed and without insurance. Knowing she’d need to tap a home equity credit line to pay for her $19,000-a-week chemotherapy and Herceptin shots, Pappas negotiated with the hospital before beginning treatment. “I said, ‘I’m paying for my own health care and can’t afford to pay you these charges. Can you work with me?’” The sympathetic billing manager gave her a 45 percent discount. “I knew that was well in line with what the insurance companies would have paid,” Pappas says.

70th National Hard Crab Derby on Labor Day weekend
CRISFIELD — Tropical Storm Hermine may have knocked out most of last year’s National Hard Crab Derby schedule but that hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm among committee chairs organizing the upcoming 70th annual event.
All of the traditional activities from pageants to parades to boat races and boat docking are planned with the Crab Derby and Crab Picking competitions the two featured events on Saturday of Labor Day weekend.
Some schedule changes include the pageant for Little Miss and Mr. Crustacean being held Friday, Sept. 1, the day after Miss Crustacean is crowned. Typically it was held the week before. As this is the 70th year, chairs of both pageants are inviting former title-holders to attend. Tickets for each are now on sale at the Chamber of Commerce office.

Divided US embraces floods as chance to pull together
After a polarizing election and a swirl of controversies that further highlighted their deep divides, Americans have embraced the Texas floods as a rare opportunity to pull together as one.
Since unleashing on Friday night, monster storm Harvey has managed to not only halt normal life in Texas but also silence much of the rancor that has pervaded public discourse since Donald Trump came to power.
While the letup may only be temporary, political rivals that have been at each others' throats have been suddenly emphasizing what unites Americans, while offers of help -- from the east coast to the west -- have been gratefully received in the largest state in the south.
"I'm not hearing the vitriol that we've heard in the past seven months," said Sherry Bebitch-Jeffe, a professor at the University of Southern California.
"Tragic times such as these bring out the best in America's character, strength, charity and resilience are those characters," Trump said on the eve of his departure.
"We see neighbor helping neighbor, friend helping friend and stranger helping stranger.
"We are one American family. We hurt together, we struggle together, and believe me, we endure together. We are one family."

Perdue Sending Food To Texas
Perdue Farms
Perdue Transportation truck driver Dexter Willey pulled out in the predawn hours this morning, headed to flood-stricken Texas. He’s pulling a load of donated chicken products destined for the Food Bank of Golden Crescent in Victoria, Texas. Our thanks to our teams of drivers who are making special trips to Texas to deliver more than 20 truckloads of protein donations to Feeding America food banks and to schools as we try do our small part to help. They also carry our thoughts and prayers to the people of Houston and surrounding communities.
Houston reminds us-- Americans are NOT the deplorables portrayed by the media and the Left
America is reeling from the onslaught of Hurricane Harvey. In the midst of the suffering from the unparalleled flooding, we have seen remarkable examples of heroism and community coming to the aid of those in peril.
Americans have been enduring for weeks media, the political class and their operatives malevolently insisting that all of America is hopelessly racist and its president a facilitator of white supremacists, so watching Texans helping their stricken neighbors has been a good reminder of who we, as Americans, really are.
This is a small silver lining of a horrible event, as various malcontents continue to push on with their attempts to cast America as irredeemably irredeemable.
Warnings of a “slippery slope” are often heard, especially when extremists demand the removal of statues they deem offensive. There are very sincere people calling for the removal of Confederate statues, but the organized left behind the hysteria are self-styled Marxists, specifically the World Workers Party, and anarchists, like Antifa.
Columnist John Nolte perfectly notes on the fecklessness of the censors, “There is no moral difference between a community library bullied into removing a book and a community theater bullied into canceling a screening. Moreover, there is no moral difference between a mob burning a book and a mob bullying a film group into memory-holing a movie.”
The good news in all of this bullying by a few hostile Marxists, who can organize online, are the facts of the matter. Mr. Nolte points out that 73 percent of African-Americans “rank ‘Gone With the Wind’ as a good/very good movie? That is only 14 points lower than whites. Our media would never tell you that. Doesn’t fit the narrative.”

Conservatives Rally Against Republicans Blocking Trump’s Legislative Agenda
Americans for Limited Government and Phyllis Schlafly Eagles are sponsoring the first in a series of rallies designed to call out Republicans in Congress who are obstructing President Donald Trump’s legislative agenda. First up is Pennsylvania Representative Charles Dent.
The Lehigh Valley “No Surrender” Rally will take place from noon to 1:30 Friday at Jordan Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania — Dent’s hometown.
“For all intends and purposes Dent is a member of the Democratic Caucus,” Rick Manning, president of ALG, told Breitbart News, adding that Dent is more “comfortable” working with liberals like Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) than the conservatives in Congress and the president.
“Charlie Dent’s career has been nothing more than a laundry list of abject surrender to the liberal Democrats,” Ed Martin of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles said in a press release announcing the event.
“Americans are fed up and ready to reclaim the mantle of last November’s election,” Martin said.
“It’s no secret RINO Charlie Dent has been a #NeverTrumper from the very beginning,” a website for the rally states. “During the ‘October surprise’ against our President – which sought to kneecap his 2016 election bid – Dent was on board the liberal bandwagon calling for Donald Trump to withdraw his name as the GOP nominee.”

Report: NBC in ‘Total Panic’ over Megyn Kelly’s Morning Show
NBC insiders are reportedly in “total panic” over Megyn Kelly’s new morning show that is set to debut at the end of September.
As Breitbart News has previously noted, Kelly does not have a core group of supporters except perhaps the “Never Trumpers” on Twitter and has alienated nearly everyone in her short tenure at the network. Yet, NBC decided to, for some reason, hitch Today’s star to Kelly’s wagon and name her new show Megyn Kelly Today.
According to the Daily Beast’s Lloyd Grove, network insiders are asking serious questions about “who her audience is exactly” and panicking about the potential disaster Kelly could be for the network’s crown-jewel franchise.
The disastrous ratings for Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly, which was pulled at least two episodes sooner than planned because Kelly kept setting viewership lows, revealed all of Kelly’s glaring weakness and showed how limited her reach is..

Former Fire Company Treasurer To Serve Five Years For Theft; $150K Restitution Ordered As Part Of Plea Deal
SNOW HILL — A former Showell Volunteer Fire Company firefighter and treasurer, charged with theft last spring after a years-long investigation revealed he had used the fire company’s bank account to make personal transactions over the period of three years, pleaded guilty this week and will serve five years in prison.
In 2013, the Worcester Bureau of Investigations (WCBI) began investigating a theft from the Showell Volunteer Fire Company. During the investigation, it was learned Mark Widgeon, now 54, of Snow Hill, had used the fire company’s bank accounts to make multiple personal transactions, including buying a vehicle and funding a gastric bypass procedure.
On Monday, Widgeon pleaded guilty to theft scheme over $500 and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, all but five of which was then suspended. He was also placed on supervised probation for five years upon his release and was ordered to pay $150,000 in restitution to the victim, in this case the Showell Volunteer Fire Company. As part of the guilty plea, Widgeon presented the court a check for $57,000 to be given to the fire company. He is also to write a letter of apology within 30 days and fulfill the reimbursement order by Nov. 30.

CNN Reporter Discovers Just How Much Texas Hates CNN
The bubble is real. The bubble explains so much. You need not live in DC or New York or Los Angeles to be bubbled. Out here in the wilds of North Carolina, you can still lose touch. Just stay online, watch cable news and monitor Twitter. This will completely warp your view of the way things really are.
I know this because it has happened to me. But never, not once, have I ever been so bubbled that I was unaware of just how much America freakin’ hates CNN.
With that in mind, try to imagine just how out-of-touch CNN correspondent Nick Valencia is:

A Viewer Writes: WBOE
Just the same as we did a couple years ago, our neighbor is having to fight with WBOE & Transportation about letting her child attend the school of which district we live in. According to the boundary maps, our small neighborhood is clearly in the Willards/Pittsville/Parkside school district. Her child attended Pittsville Middle last year, and is set to attend high school this year. His schedule, set up by the WBOE and school administrators, is for him to attend Parkside. This past week she contacted transportation to find out what bus would be picking him up. This is when they tell her that we live in Wi-HI's district, which is false. Their whole reasoning for this is because they don't want to reroute a bus a 1/4 mile to pick her son up. There is also a second high school student whose family just moved into the neighborhood who is scheduled to attend Parkside. They too will not have transportation. It's frustrating to clearly have all the proper information stating that you live in a specific school district, just to have the WBOE & Transportation blatantly lie to you.

Hate Profiteering: The SPLC Hate Hustlers
In the 5th century BC treatise, “The Art of War” (attributed to Chinese military strategist Sun Tzu), it is written, “If you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be put at risk even in a hundred battles.” In modern shorthand, that has been reduced to simply “Know your enemy,” though knowing your own capabilities remains equally important.
To better know our adversaries, our editors and analysts subscribe to a broad spectrum of political publications — leftmost among them being the daily Communist Party USA propaganda sheet, which gives marching orders to all the leftist hater opposition to American Liberty and Rule of Law. A notch less leftward than the CPUSA would be the Democrat Party daily updates.
Prior to the Charlottesville hate-fest between the so-called “alt-right” and “antifa” hate factions, the frequency of DNC fundraising appeals after Hillary Clinton’s demise had declined to a trickle — soft monthly appeals.
However, after Charlottesville, the frequency of appeals from Demo chairman Tom Perez has increased to three per day, and even Hillary is back in the act..
Fomenting disunity and hate along racial, ethnic, religious, economic and gender lines is the bread and butter of the Democrat Party platform, but racial division has long been the keystone of that corrupt platform.

ISRAEL Sends Relief Aid to Texas
Israeli aid experts have been dispatched to Texas to provide emergency relief and psychosocial support to the victims of Tropical Storm Harvey.
A delegation of volunteers from humanitarian aid NGO IsraAID were sent to Houston to assist in immediate disaster relief – such as cleaning homes of debris – and to offer trauma counselling.
“In crises with large-scale destruction, national and international aid efforts typically focus on practical, physical support, with limited resources allocated to the mental and emotional rehabilitation of affected populations,” said Yotam Polizer, co-CEO of IsraAID.
“For the most vulnerable groups, notably children and the elderly, time is of critical importance; the longer these groups are forced to remain in shelters, the higher the chance of long-term mental health problems such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a disorder that can have a debilitating and long-term impact.”
“This cleaning stage is crucial to avoid major health and hygiene issues from contaminated water and open sewage,” said Polizer. “From a psychological perspective, home-owners are often so overwhelmed by the devastation and the loss of their belongings that they cannot consider the thought of filtering through their possessions to try and save anything. Part of IsraAID’s work is to separate what can be preserved.”
“The loss of people’s homes can easily put them into a downward spiral of despair and depression. Cleaning up the mess helps create a positive momentum towards rehabilitation and recovery,” Polizer added.

Here’s the progressive Left’s war strategy — and endgame
While we Americans watched a human tragedy of epic proportions unfold in Texas after Hurricane Harvey made landfall, we also bore witness to that which is stellar and exceptional about Americans: our willingness to serve and help each other in tragic times.
We saw the valor and heroism that has always been the foundation of Americanism. However, something else happened this weekend that revealed a crack in that foundation: Black-clad, masked domestic terrorists reminiscent of Hitler’s Brown Shirts attacked other Americans — and that’s not overstating the case.
Just yesterday, a very dear, close friend asked me what’s going on with the Left in America? He asked me, specifically, about the “transgender” agenda.

Linda Sarsour’s “hurricane relief fund” ISN’T helping who you think it is
It boggles the mind why Muslim activist Linda Sarsour has emerged as a feminist icon, but following her role in organizing the anti-Trump “Women’s March,” she’s become just that.
A bizarre label for sure, given that she continuously defends Sharia law, and has called for women with whom she disagrees to have their bodies mutilated.
Certainly, someone as devoted to her religion as she is familiar with the concept of “taquiya,” that is, situations under Sharia Law under which it’s acceptable to lie (to nonbelievers, of course). In her case, it apparently extends to lying for political gain, because you’ll notice something curious if you read the fine print in the alleged Harvey Hurricane relief charity she promotes on her twitter account.

Weekly Fishing Report: Aug. 30, 2017
This is Erik Zlokovitz filling in for Keith Lockwood on the weekly fishing report. As I write this report, there is a disturbance bringing in some rain and winds along the mid-Atlantic coast, but it is nothing compared to the historic flooding being experienced now by the folks in the Houston area, southeast Texas and western Louisiana. The weather forecast here in Maryland is fair to good for the next few days, with rain in the forecast Saturday. We may be entering into a slight cooling pattern, which means that fishing will gradually shift into early fall mode. Take your kids out fishing at least one more time before school starts!
Before we get into this week’s fishing report, I wanted to remind everyone that they can submit their own fishing reports and photos to the Maryland Angler’s Log. To post a report, please email your name, hometown, photos, location information and additional content for your report. All information is optional, but encouraged. New reports are posted daily during the busy fishing seasons. You can see our most recent Angler's Log here.

A Decade of Central Bank Collusion and Counting
Since late 2007, the Federal Reserve has embarked on grand-scale collusion with other G-7 central banks to manufacture a massive amount of money. The scope and degree of this collusion are historically unprecedented and by admission of the perpetrators, unconventional in approach, and – depending on the speech – ineffective.
Central bank efforts to provide liquidity to the private banking system have been delivered amidst a plethora of grandiose phrases like “unlimited” and “by all means necessary.” Central bankers have played a game with no defined goalposts, no clock rundown, no max scores, and no true end in sight.
At the Fed’s instigation, central bankers built policy on the fly. Their science experiment morphed into something even Dr. Frankenstein couldn’t have imagined. Confidence in the Fed and the U.S. dollar (as well as in other major central banks globally) has dropped considerably, even as this exercise remains in motion, and even though central bankers have tactiltly admitted that their money creation scheme was largely a bust, though not in any one official statement.

Donald Trump moves to restore work requirement for welfare
The Trump administration moved Wednesday to reimpose work requirements for Americans on welfare, revoking an Obama-era policy that had urged states to apply for waivers exempting the poor from having to show they were either getting job training or looking for work.
Requiring work was a key part of the 1996 welfare reform law enacted by a GOP-led Congress and signed by then-President Bill Clinton, and Mr. Trump’s move restores the law as written.
“The waiver option offered by the Obama administration is being replaced today by an expectation that work should always be encouraged as a condition for receiving welfare,” said Steven Wagner, the Health and Human Services Department’s acting assistant secretary for children and families.
The 2012 Obama policy didn’t outright gut the welfare law. Instead, it pushed states to consider applying for waivers that would let them still pay benefits to people even if they weren’t actively seeking work, job training or meeting other criteria.
The move proved to be ineffective.

Houston police catch 14 armed robbers and looters amid flood emergency
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said he is not going to tolerate criminals taking advantage of people in the community during such a devastating time.
NOTE: The city of Houston has announced a curfew from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. The curfew remains in effect until further notice and exempts those seeking shelter, flood relief volunteers, first responders and those going to and from work.
He said his officers arrested 14 alleged looters since Sunday.
Those arrested will face stiffer punishments under a Texas law providing heftier penalties during a crisis, prosecutors announced Tuesday.
"People displaced or harmed in this storm are not going to be easy prey," Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said.

Iran Rejects U.S. Demand for Inspection of Military Sites
Iran on Tuesday dismissed U.S. demands for the inspection of Iranian military sites by the U.N. nuclear watchdog, shrugging off a request by America’s ambassador to the U.N. as only a “dream.”
Iran’s government spokesman Mohammad Bagher Nobakht told reporters that the demand by Ambassador Nikki Haley wasn’t worth any attention. Iran will not accept any inspection of its sites and “especially our military sites.”
In remarks broadcast by state TV, he said the sites and all information about them are “classified.”
Last week Haley said the United States wants inspections of Iranian military and non-military sites to determine its compliance with the landmark 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers. The deal saw Iran cap its nuclear activities in return for lifting of crippling sanctions.

Hillary charging $750 for photo at book signing
Hillary Clinton is coming to a city near you to talk about something she cares very deeply about: herself.
Clinton will relive her humiliating defeat to Donald Trump in the 2016 election through a tour this fall and winter to promote her new book, “What Happened.”
Over the summer, Clinton has publicly blamed the loss on Russia, former FBI Director James Comey, The New York Times, the Democratic National Committee, sexism, gender stereotypes, Donald Trump, and her own supporters, among others.
Now she’ll again hit the road — and take attention away from Democratic candidates — to take her case to the people, or at least those who can afford to attend.

University of Tampa professor fired for saying Texans deserve hurricane for voting Trump
The University of Tampa has fired a visiting professor who suggested on Twitter that Texas deserves the deadly devastation from Hurricane Harvey because it voted for President Trump in the 2016 election.
Visiting assistant sociology professor Kenneth L. Storey had tweeted Sunday, “I don’t believe in instant Karma but this kinda feels like it for Texas. Hopefully this will help them realize the GOP doesn’t care about them,” according to screenshots obtained by Campus Reform.
Mr. Storey added that “the good people there need to do more to stop the evil their state pushes. I’m only blaming those who support the GOP there.” He also said that the Trump voters in hurricane-prone Florida deserved the same fate.
Mr. Storey quickly deleted the tweets after making headlines at conservative news outlets, but the backlash was swift.
“I deeply regret a statement I posted yesterday,” he later apologized, The Tampa Bay Times reported. “I never meant to wish ill will upon any group. I hope all affected by Harvey recover quickly.”
The Times reported Tuesday that Mr. Storey had been fired.

A Viewer Writes: Wallaby's at the Salisbury Zoo
Maybe the public can help explain why the Wallaby's are kept in an oversize fenced in dog kennel with a concrete floor and their shelter is a plastic dog kennel and a dog house, at the zoo. Is this similar to their natural habitat in the wild?
Photos were taken thru the fence at the back end of the zoo, so I am not sure if this is within public view on the front end. But if it is why hasn't anyone said anything?
Don't we owe animals that we take out of their natural habitat and imprison in zoos the respect to, at the very least - house them in a habitat similar to that of which they are being deprived of?
Publishers Notes: For over a month now the Salisbury Zoo, (through WBOC) have been trying to raise $5,000.00 to repair an exhibit that was damaged when a tree fell onto it. If you'll recall, they lost an Owl and still have yet to recover it.
Nevertheless, since when is the Salisbury Zoo/City not insured? Could it be that they cannot insure the Zoo because it's 95% in a flood plane zone? More importantly, since WBOC has been asking people to make donations for this repair for an entire month, since the Zoo is holding a fundraiser tonight, could it be they're not exposing just how much they have already raised to exceed the $5,000.00 request?
Finally, how sad is it these days when the beloved Zoo can't raise $5,000.00 overnight. That says a LOT about the staff and condition of the Salisbury Zoo.
Where Harvey is hitting hardest, 80 percent lack flood insurance
The vast majority of homeowners in the area devastated by Hurricane Harvey lack flood insurance, leaving many who escaped the storm with little financial help to rebuild their homes and lives.
“I wish I had flood insurance now,” lamented Leroy Moore, a 58-year-old whose home in Northeast Houston filled with water. He cancelled his flood policy when it grew too expensive. He and his wife were rescued from the rising waters on Sunday by National Guard troops and are now sleeping in a church. “When it's a choice to make between things and life, sometimes you've just got to let the things go and hang on to life.”
Regular home insurance covers wind damage but not flooding. Homeowners have to purchase separate flood insurance policies from the government-run National Flood Insurance Program, which will end in late September unless Congress renews it. In Texas, the average cost for a NFIP plan is $500 a year, but it can rise to more than $2,000 for homes inside a floodplain.

US Tested Massive New Nuclear Bomb in August
The U.S. military in early August held a second test of its B61-12 gravity nuclear bombs at Tonopah Test Range in Nevada, the National Nuclear Security Administration said in a statement Monday.
"The non-nuclear test assemblies, which were dropped from an F-15E based at Nellis Air Force Base, evaluated the weapon's non-nuclear functions and the aircraft's capability to deliver the weapon," said the NNSA.
President Donald Trump has called for the U.S. to "greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability until such time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes," a message he campaigned on and one he has reiterated during the first eight months of his presidency.

Obnoxious Politico Cartoon Mocks Victims Of Hurricane Harvey
In what appears to be an ongoing effort to help Donald Trump get reelected in 2020, the ultra liberal Politico today published a very un-funny cartoon mocking the victims of Hurricane Harvey. The floodwaters haven’t yet receded and victims are still fighting for survival, yet Politico thought this was the optimal time to be condescending toward those who are suffering.
If you’ve ever wondered what the elites in DC think of everyday Americans, it’s right here in vivid color. We’re all just a bunch of know-nuthin rednecks in cowboy hats and Confederate flag shirts hoopin’ and hollerin’ about secession and God and angels. Silly us and our silly God, don’t we realize that Government is always the answer?

Eric Trump Slams Mueller's Russia Probe, Media: 'They Tried Really Hard, But It Didn't Fly'
Eric Trump on Tuesday slammed the Russia collusion investigation as "a total hoax" — telling Newsmax TV that the media was keeping it alive only because no matter what President Donald Trump does, "he's going to get hit."
"They tried really hard," the Trump, 33, told "The Joe Pags Show" in an exclusive interview of the Russia probe. "They tried really hard, but it didn't fly.
"And everybody realizes the whole thing was a total hoax and a spoof and that there was nothing there.
"I'm proud of him," he continued. "Listen, no matter what we do, we're going to get hit."

Breaking News: Two explosions have been reported at a chemical plant about 30 miles from Houston that was damaged by Hurricane Harvey
There were reports early Thursday of explosions at a chemical plant in Crosby, about 30 miles northeast of downtown Houston. |
Arkema, a French chemical group, said in a statement that there were two explosions around 2 a.m., and a risk of further blasts at the site. |
The Arkema plant manufactures organic peroxides, which are used in making plastic and other materials. When the chemicals warm, they start to decompose, which creates more heat and can quickly lead to a rapid, explosive reaction. Some organic peroxides also produce flammable vapors as they decompose. |
The plant was shut down last Friday in anticipation of the storm. |

First grader sent to office for 'misgendering' fellow student
A first grader at a California charter school was sent to the principal’s office this week after she accidentally “misgendered” a classmate in what’s being called a “pronoun mishap.”
The incident occurred at Rocklin Academy, a school roiled by controversy after a kindergarten teacher led an in-class discussion on transgenderism that included a “gender reveal” for a little boy who was transitioning to a little girl.
For kindergartners.
Parents were furious because they were not informed in advance and were not given the chance to opt their five-year-olds from the classroom transgender activity. However, school leaders informed moms and dads – they were not allowed to opt-out – and the state did not require them to notify parents.

Uber Finally Lets You Opt Out Of Having Your Location Tracked After Your Ride Is Over
Late last year, Uber made a change to its app that let it track customers after their rides had ended. Many troubled months later, the company is finally walking back that tweak, and will once again let customers have more control over when their locations are used.

Insurance Won’t Cover Damage To 80% Of Homes Flooded By Hurricane Harvey
When the flood waters left behind by Hurricane Harvey eventually recede, they will leave behind billions of dollars in property damage. However, a large majority of homeowners will likely have to spend their own money to make their homes livable again.
The Latest Powerball Winner Is Not Trying To Be Your Facebook Friend Or Give You Money
You’re probably a really nice person. However, that doesn’t mean that the winner of last week’s record Powerball multi-state lottery jackpot wants to be your pal on social media, or wants to give you money. Profiles that impersonate the real winner and promise to give money away to her followers are not real.
Cajun Navy says looters fired shots at Harvey rescue boats
A leader with the Cajun Navy has said that looters fired upon rescue boats that were attempting to assist flood victims of Hurricane Harvey.
Clyde Cain, an organizer with the Louisiana Cajun Navy, said on Monday that no one was injured when apparent looters fired guns at volunteer rescuers earlier in the day in Houston.
The group is one of several gathering volunteers with leisure boats to assist desperately over-extended first responders in search and rescue efforts as the flood waters from Harvey continue to rise.
'It came over [the radio] and it was looters who are out there and not wanting our boats around them,' Cain said in a live video stream on Facebook. Cain said it was also possible the looters were attempting to steal the boats.

Deal Island Angler Catches Record Sheepshead
Dave Alveberg Reels in 13.73-pound Fish
Dave Alveberg caught the 13.73-pound record breaking fish Aug. 17, in roughly 4 feet of water off South Marsh Island near Tangier Sound.
Intent on catching white perch and rockfish, Alveberg was using soft crab as bait when his line went “haywire.” After a brief struggle he pulled aboard the record sheepshead.
“Seeing something like this on my boat was amazing,” Alveberg said. He plans on getting his sheepshead mounted for display.
The sheepshead’s weight was confirmed by Brent Malone of How Sweet It Is, a market in Somerset County. The catch broke the previous record 13.3-pound fish caught by Dan Thomas in 2016.

Professor calling Harvey ‘karma’ learns the meaning of the word shortly thereafter
The rise of left-wing bias on college campuses has been well documented. Instead of being places where students can approach topics with an open mind, America’s colleges have become more like liberal indoctrination centers. As a result, conservative views have almost become forbidden by default.
For the most part, college administrators have been content to let their faculty spew their propaganda with near impunity. However, one professor in Florida finally took things a bit too far. As most of the country was watching in horror at the events unfolding in Houston, sociology professor Kenneth Storey was busy tweeting. To him, Harvey was “karma,” since Texas had the audacity to vote for Donald Trump.
