WASHINGTON — The Maryland Insurance Administration has approved premium rates for individual health insurance plans offered in the state beginning Jan. 1, 2018 averaging 33 percent.
The increase is lower than the originally filed rate increases averaging 43.1 percent.
The increases vary by insurance provider.
CareFirst Blue Choice Inc.’s HMO average increase is 34.5 percent, compared to the requested 50.4 percent increase.
The Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States was granted an average rate increase of 22.6 percent, compared to the 23.4 percent rate increase requested.
Cigna will no longer offer individual plans in Maryland for 2018.
Approximately 243,000 Marylanders are enrolled in individual health plans.

Raise Obama Care Until it is GONE !!! Keep Raising it
ReplyDeleteNo surprise here. We were all lied too and teased with low rates for a couple of years. Hopefully the repeal will come before many are too broke to afford it. Figures Obama would stick us with this.
ReplyDeleteI am sure there will be many who will opt out and chose to pay the penalty. To me this is just another form to state mandated taxation. Just like auto insurance. It has gotten to the point where only the rich can afford healthcare.
ReplyDeleteRemember this is THE AFFORDABLE Health Care!!!!
ReplyDeleteTwo questions,
ReplyDelete1. How long with congress provide give away money before they see that it is failing not matter how much they prop it up?
2. Wondering what this dramatic increase will do the plan that congress, senate, and federal workers have?
Joe this was seen on a Baltimore news channel yesterday. State insurance regulators approved a slew of rate increases for insurers on the Maryland Health Connection marketplace. CareFirst of Maryland and Group Hospitalization and Medical Services sought a 58.8 percent hike, but were granted a 49.9 percent increase. Seems to me the Regulators need to be regulated. Are these Insurance Companies lining their (regulators) pockets $$$$$ and the people are being screwed.
ReplyDeleteI liked my doctor. I wonder what he's doing now.
ReplyDeleteFox News has fooled you folks good. Blaming Obama instead of greedy robber baron insurance company CEO's. Wake up and fight the real enemy.
ReplyDeleteIf you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor... yeah, right!?
ReplyDeleteIf you like this health plan, you can shove this health plan where your proctologist will find it...if you can afford him.
Sign of the greedy times. Both political parties are to blame...BOTH!
