Justice Dept Releases New Disturbing Details on San Bernardino Attack

New heartbreaking and disturbing details have been revealed about the San Bernardino terror, in a new report released by the Justice Department and the Police Foundation.

On the morning of December 2, 2015, at a training session and holiday party for San Bernardino county health workers, Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and his wife Tashfeen Malik, 29, opened fire on the unsuspecting workers, shooting over 100 rounds in two to three minutes. The pair killed 14 people and wounded 22, leaving carnage that resembled a war zone.

The new report released Friday, September 9, titled “Bringing Calm to Chaos,” reviews the police response to the attacks, provides new details, as well as lessons on how law enforcement can respond to future attacks.

It describes heros who tried to stop the attack, and the carnage police found when they entered, including dying victims pleading for their lives.

Farook is described as a health inspector at the department who was a diligent worker and tech-savvy with computer problems – but his colleagues thought he become “more stoic” after he returned from Saudi Arabia with his new bride, Malik, originally from Pakistan.

Italy's Supreme Court rules public masturbation not a crime

Italy's highest court has ruled that masturbation in public is not a crime, as long as it is not conducted in the presence of minors.

The decision came down from the Italian Supreme Court -- La Corte di Cassazione -- in the case of a 69-year-old man, identified only as "PL," who was caught masturbating in Catania, a city on Sicily's east coast.

The man was convicted in May 2015 after he performed the act in front of students on the University of Catania campus, according to documents filed with Supreme Court. The man was sentenced to three months in prison and ordered to pay a fine of €3,200 (around $3,600).

However, the defendant's lawyer appealed the case to the country's highest court, which ruled on the side of the accused in June but only just made its decision public. Judges ruled that public masturbation out of the presence of minors is no longer deemed criminal conduct due to a change in the law last year, which decriminalized the act.

Murder Rates Rose in a Quarter of the Nation’s 100 Largest Cities

Murder rates rose significantly in 25 of the nation’s 100 largest cities last year, according to an analysis by The New York Times of new data compiled from individual police departments.

The findings confirm a trend that was tracked recently in a study published by the National Institute of Justice. “The homicide increase in the nation’s large cities was real and nearly unprecedented,” wrote the study’s author, Richard Rosenfeld, a criminology professor at the University of Missouri-St. Louis who explored homicide data in 56 large American cities.

In the Times analysis, half of the increase came from just seven cities — Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, Houston, Milwaukee, Nashville and Washington.

Three Million State Returns Processed

Refunds issued to Maryland taxpayers total nearly $2.4 billion

ANNAPOLIS, Md. –Comptroller Peter Franchot announced today that his agency has processed more than 3 million returns for the 2015 tax year, including 474,075 paper returns and 2,527,077 electronically-filed returns. The total amount of refunds issued is nearly $2.4 billion.

“In these challenging economic times, I’m pleased to put $2.4 billion back into the pockets of hard working Marylanders and their families,” Comptroller Franchot said. “Clearly, taxpayers have now embraced electronic filing, and that makes a huge difference in the speed of receiving a refund.”

The Comptroller’s office has 12 branch offices that will assist taxpayers in filing electronically, thus likely getting tax refunds faster than filing via the U.S. mail. State employees at the offices, and via the toll-free Taxpayer Services phone number, give free state tax preparation assistance.

Taxpayers can contact Taxpayer Service at 410-260-7980 from Central Maryland, or 1-800-MD-TAXES (1-800-638-2937) from elsewhere. Trump Offers Tough Talk on Iran, Hammers Hillary Before Massive Florida Crowd

PENSACOLA, FL – On Friday, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump flexed his political muscle by drawing one of his largest crowds since securing his party’s nomination in the pivotal battleground state of Florida.

In what has traditionally been a very Republican-voting region of the state, Trump backed up his January capacity appearance with another strong showing. It was evident early on, as thousands lined up to get into the Pensacola Bay Center three hours before the rally began to see the presidential hopeful.

Trump hammered the usual planks of his campaign stump speech – trade, national defense, immigration, and the flaws of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

He drew perhaps his biggest applause when he told the crowd what he would do to Iranian boats that threatened U.S. ships.

“With Iran, when they circle our beautiful destroyers with their little boats and they make gestures at our people that they shouldn’t be allowed to make, they will be shot out of the water,” he proclaimed.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker met with protesters outside Maryland GOP fundraiser

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s appearance Friday at the Maryland Republican Party’s biggest fundraiser of the year was met with protests courtesy of dozens of pro-union demonstrators who rallied outside while the former candidate for president addressed attendees of the annual Red, White and Blue Dinner in Glen Burnie.

More than 50 protesters held signs and led anti-Walker chants outside Friday’s GOP fundraiser, the Annapolis Capital reported — a figure that exceeded the total number of local lawmakers from Anne Arundel County in attendance to hear the Wisconsin governor speak, according to the newspaper.

Five years after he spurred protests in the Wisconsin capital by eliminating collective-bargaining rights for most state employees, Mr. Walker remains a target of pro-union activists as evidence by Friday’s protest.

“He doesn’t care about unions,” Bernard Johnson, a member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, told the Capital. “He wants to take our collective bargaining rights away.”

DHS whistleblower: Muslims waging 'settlement jihad' on U.S.

WASHINGTON – Muslims from around the world are coming to America to wage “settlement jihad” and implement Shariah law, a Department of Homeland security whistleblower warns.

The eye-opening observations were made by former Department of Homeland Security officer Philip Haney at the ACT for America 2016 Conference Tuesday.

Haney warned that most Muslims do not migrate to America with the intention of assimilating into American culture.

“The observant Muslim base is the reason for civilizational and/or settlement jihad,” he said. “That is why they are immigrating to America, to come and coalesce into one solid unit with the intention – and it is intentional – to implement Shariah law, which according to Islamic theology is the grace and gift to mankind.”

Report: Clinton Charities Ignore Laws Requiring IDs of Foreign Donors

The Clinton Foundation and the Clinton Health Access Initiative have ignored New York laws requiring them to disclose the names of foreign donors, and the state attorney general has refused to use his power to force them to do so, according to a Scripps News investigation.

Democratic Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is a Clinton donor and a member of presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's campaign "leadership council" in New York.

Scheiderman donated the maximum $2,700 to Hillary Clinton's campaign this cycle.

The Scripps report comes just as Clinton is attacking her Republican rival Donald Trump's own charity's gift of $25,000 to a political group affiliated with Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. Bondi at the time was considering an investigation into Trump University, but ended up not doing so.

Families sue feds, Minnesota school district for violating student privacy

MINNEAPOLIS – Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys representing a group of students and parents filed suit Wednesday against the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Justice, and Minnesota’s Virginia Public Schools for disregarding student privacy and safety. The school district is located just over 60 miles north of Duluth.

The district opened its schools’ locker rooms, showers, and restrooms to the opposite sex after the U.S. departments of Education and Justice threatened removing federal education funding throughlegally baseless directives it issued to public schools in May. Concerned students and parents then formed the group Privacy Matters to challenge the guidelines and the school district’s policy. Young female students, initially unaware that the district was allowing biologically male students to use the girls’ locker room, were shocked and alarmed when a male student began using the locker room and have now have no assurance that they may use girls-only facilities without a male entering the once-private locker rooms and restrooms.

“School policies should promote the rights and safety of every student, but that’s not what Virginia Public Schools is doing—and it’s certainly not what the departments of Education and Justice are doing,” said ADF Senior Counsel Gary McCaleb. “No child should be forced into an intimate setting, like a locker room, with someone of the opposite sex. Telling girls that their privacy and modesty don’t merit a private and secure changing area is an attack on women. The school district should rescind its privacy-violating policies, and the court should order the DOE and DOJ to stop bullying school districts with falsehoods about what federal law requires.”

Clinton expresses regret for saying 'half' of Trump supporters are 'deplorables'

New York (CNN) Hillary Clinton expressed "regret" Saturday for comments in which she said "half" of Donald Trump's supporters are "deplorables," meaning people who are racist, sexist, homophobic or xenophobic.

"Last night I was 'grossly generalistic,' and that's never a good idea. I regret saying 'half' -- that was wrong," Clinton said in a statement in which she also vowed to call out "bigotry" in Trump's campaign.

The Democratic presidential nominee sparked an uproar late Friday when she described Trump's supporters at a fundraiser.

"To just be grossly generalistic, you can put half of Trump supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables," Clinton said.

"Right? Racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it."

Judge orders civil trial in death of 26-year-old with Down syndrome

A federal judge in Maryland ruled Friday that a lawsuit against three Frederick County sheriff’s deputies will move forward to trial, allowing a jury to decide whether their actions led to the death of a young man with Down syndrome.

In January 2013, Robert Ethan Saylor, 26, went with an aide to watch “Zero Dark Thirty” at a Frederick-area mall and, after refusing to leave the theater during a second showing, was forced from his seat by the deputies who were working off-duty as security officers.

During a struggle, Saylor — who went by his middle name — ended up on the floor and suffered a fractured larynx. His death was later ruled a homicide as a result of asphyxia.

Nasal spray not recommended for flu vaccine this year

Sorry, little one, this news is going to pinch for a couple of seconds: This year’s flu vaccine will probably have to come in the form of a shot, not those two little puffs up the nose. Because when it comes to preventing the misery of the flu, that nasal spray vaccine has proved to be a bit of a flop.

No, the adults don’t really know why. But when they went back over the last three flu seasons and did the math, they found that kids between 2 and 17 who got the vaccine made with live attenuated virus — the puff up the nose — were 21/2 times more likely than children who got the shot (which uses an inactivated virus to teach the immune system) to get sick with the flu.

So for the coming year, at least, the American Academy of Pediatrics — the group that gives your doctor advice about your care — is recommending that FluMist “should not be used in any setting.”

The Case Against James Comey

With hard, hooded eyes and a pugilistic bearing, J. Edgar Hoover’s official portrait glowers—face fixed in a bulldog scowl—down the hallways of the FBI’s Washington headquarters. Even the building itself—a crumbling brutalist cathedral, windowless at street level and wreathed in security cameras—seems to evoke something of the man, its namesake, who bent the bureau to his will during the terms of eight presidents, from Coolidge to Nixon.

Hoover never so much as crossed the threshold of the office where his latest successor, James Comey, now works. Yet the edifice and the institution remain haunted by Hoover’s legacy of unchecked power, which rendered him judge, jury and executioner of anyone who came into his sights.

The FBI’s history is divided into two distinct epochs: Hoover and post-Hoover. After Hoover’s death in office in 1972, Congress enacted laws designed to curtail the abuses—from illegal wiretaps and “black bag” jobs to campaigns of intimidation and blackmail—that defined his 48-year reign. Of the six directors who have followed, all but one have projected far lower profiles, eschewing the dramatic assertions of power that made
Hoover so dangerous. Only James Comey, the seventh and current FBI director, has strayed from this well-worn path.

Maryland Higher Education Commission offers help to ITT Tech students

BALTIMORE —Students enrolled at the failed ITT Tech Institute are still coming to grips with the school's closing this week. The state has stepped in to try and help them decide what to do.

More than 600 ITT students enrolled at the schools Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties campuses are impacted by the school's closing. Looking for answers, they're now being encouraged to contact the Maryland Higher Education Commission.

The ITT shutdown came unexpectedly, and many students said it's disheartening. It hit home for Maryland students working toward degrees. The state's higher education commission is stepping in. It sets the policies for public, private colleges and career schools. MHEC secretary Dr. James Fielder said his office is doing all it can to help students get back on track.

"I look at it in terms of the dreams. People have dreams and they pursue them aggressively. They are the ones who chose to go after these degrees," Fielder said.

5,300 Wells Fargo employees fired over 2 million phony accounts

Everyone hates paying bank fees. But imagine paying fees on a ghost account you didn't even sign up for.

That's exactly what happened to Wells Fargo customers nationwide.

On Thursday, federal regulators said Wells Fargo (WFC) employees secretly created millions of unauthorized bank and credit card accounts -- without their customers knowing it -- since 2011.

The phony accounts earned the bank unwarranted fees and allowed Wells Fargo employees to boost their sales figures and make more money.

"Wells Fargo employees secretly opened unauthorized accounts to hit sales targets and receive bonuses," Richard Cordray, director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, said in a statement.

Wells Fargo confirmed to CNNMoney that it had fired 5,300 employees over the last few years related to the shady behavior. Employees went so far as to create phony PIN numbers and fake email addresses to enroll customers in online banking services, the CFPB said.

Trump: With Hillary SCOTUS Picks You Can 'Kiss the 2nd Amendment Goodbye'

Friday at the Values Voter Summit in Washington DC, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said if his opponent, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, wins she will nominate liberal Supreme Court justices, meaning you can “kiss the Second Amendment goodbye.”

Trump said, “We’re going to protect your Second Amendment, so many things, but one of the most important, some people actually think it’s the most important, is the filling of the seats of the United States Supreme Court. You see what’s happening right now, essentially it’s four and four and you see how bad it is. We’re going to pick great judges. I’ve already put a list of 11, the Federalist Society highly recommended, got uniform great reviews on these 11 people and we are going to put truly great people. Maybe we use Judge Scalia as the ultimate example of what we are looking for, okay. This will determine whether or not we remain a constitutional republic, frankly. That’s what’s going to happen. I have pledged to appoint judges who are upholding the Constitution, to protect your religious liberty and apply the law as written. We reject judges that rewrite the Constitution to impose their own personal views on 300 million plus Americans.”

Maryland is home to five booming casinos: Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore, Hollywood Casino in Perryville, Ocean Downs Casino near Ocean City, and Maryland Live Casino in Anne Arundel County.

The casinos netted a combined $100.3 million dollars. This is the fourth time since the casinos opened in 2010, that revenue was more than $100 million.

And now, with one of them now expanding, that’s an even bigger boost for our state.

Exposed: FBI Director James Comey's Clinton Foundation Connection

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A review of FBI Director James Comey’s professional history and relationships shows that the Obama cabinet leader — now under fire for his handling of the investigation of Hillary Clinton — is deeply entrenched in the big-money cronyism culture of Washington, D.C. His personal and professional relationships — all undisclosed as he announced the Bureau would not prosecute Clinton — reinforce bipartisan concerns that he may have politicized the criminal probe.

These concerns focus on millions of dollars that Comey accepted from a Clinton Foundation defense contractor, Comey’s former membership on a Clinton Foundation corporate partner’s board, and his surprising financial relationship with his brother Peter Comey, who works at the law firm that does the Clinton Foundation’s taxes.

Surprising stuff.

Dolphins recorded having a conversation 'just like two people' for first time

Two dolphins have been recorded having a conversation for the first time after scientists developed an underwater microphone which could distinguish the animals' different "voices".

Researchers have known for decades that the mammals had an advanced form of communication, using distinctive clicks and whistles to show they are excited, happy, stressed or separated from the group.

But scientists have now shown that dolphins alter the volume and frequency of pulsed clicks to form individual "words" which they string together into sentences in much the same way that humans speak.

Researchers at the Karadag Nature Reserve, in Feodosia, Russia, recorded two Black Sea bottlenose dolphins, called Yasha and Yana, talking to each other in a pool. They found that each dolphin would listen to a sentence of pulses without interruption, before replying.

MARYLAND GOVERNOR ALLOTS FUNDS FOR SCHOOL BUS SAFETY

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced the state will set aside more than a half million dollars to assist local law enforcement agencies with enforcing school bus safety laws, specifically to pay overtime hours to police officers who patrol school bus routes.

The program, announced last week, also earmarks funds educate the public about stopping for school buses that are loading and unloading students. State law requires that motorists come to a complete stop 20 feet behind or in front of a school bus with a deployed stop arm and flashing lights, and to remain stopped until the safety procedures are completed. Those in violation of this law may be fined and receive points on their driver’s licenses.

“Maryland children are back to school, and many ride school buses every day to get to class,” said Gov. Larry Hogan. “It’s our job—as parents, grandparents, and government leaders—to be sure they are safe on their way to and from school.”

The Maryland Department of Education conducted a one-day survey in April that shows participating school bus drivers reported a total of 4,334 instances of illegal passing.
