Judge orders civil trial in death of 26-year-old with Down syndrome

A federal judge in Maryland ruled Friday that a lawsuit against three Frederick County sheriff’s deputies will move forward to trial, allowing a jury to decide whether their actions led to the death of a young man with Down syndrome.

In January 2013, Robert Ethan Saylor, 26, went with an aide to watch “Zero Dark Thirty” at a Frederick-area mall and, after refusing to leave the theater during a second showing, was forced from his seat by the deputies who were working off-duty as security officers.

During a struggle, Saylor — who went by his middle name — ended up on the floor and suffered a fractured larynx. His death was later ruled a homicide as a result of asphyxia.

  3. Big bad police officers are scared of everyone and everything. That is why they prefer to write traffic tickets and avoid contact crime. I was in fear for my safety so I killed the kid.

  5. Has everyone gone daft? Courts have already dealt with this.In ANY other country this matter would have been considered closed. Not one of you can even think of one iota of evidence that has not already been brought forward.Fool me and come up with something that no one else has thought of.If you present new evidence I can actually get that to the proper officials.Thank you.

  9. The police did their job. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander. Move or be moved. Tired of the mentally disabled getting a pass for behavior. If u know how to act the fool, you know how to behave or learn consequences for unacceptable behavior. Giving them passes has created this oppositional defiance.
