Obama's Immigration Orders Head to Federal Court in New Orleans

A federal appeals court is slated to hear oral arguments Friday in a case to remove an order that halts President Barack Obama's executive actions on immigration.

The arguments between federal government lawyers and attorneys from more than two dozen states that disagree with Obama's immigration actions will take place in New Orleans in front of three judges from the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, according to The Hill.

That court is one of the most conservative in the nation, and the random selection for judges to serve on the panel resulted in two conservatives and one liberal being chosen.

At issue are Obama's executive actions taken last fall that would grant amnesty to as many as 5 million illegal immigrants currently living in the U.S. In February, a federal judge in Texas issued a ruling that temporarily blocked the administration's measure.

The administration wants the immigration orders put into action, and now it's looking for the Texas judge's ruling to be lifted by the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.

School districts, parents at odds over breakfast in class

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The number of breakfasts served in the nation’s schools has doubled in the last two decades, a surge driven largely by a change in how districts deliver the food.

Instead of providing low-income students free or reduced-price meals in the cafeteria, they’re increasingly serving all children in the classroom. Food policy advocates say the change increases equity, however, it’s fueled a backlash from parents and teachers. They contend that it takes up class time that should be devoted to learning and wastes food by serving it to kids who don’t want or need it.

Lilian Ramos, a mother of two elementary school children in a working-class Los Angeles neighborhood, said she takes offense at the district’s assumption that she hasn’t fed her children: She serves them a traditional Mexican breakfast each day.

Signs That 'The Elites' Are Feverishly Preparing For Something Big

What in the world are the elite up to? In recent days, we have learned that the New York Fed is moving a lot of operations to Chicago because of concerns about what a “natural disaster” could do, the federal government is buying 62 million rounds of ammunition commonly used in AR-15 semi-automatic rifles for “training” purposes, and NORAD is moving back into Cheyenne Mountain because it is “EMP-hardened”. In addition, government authorities have scheduled a whole host of unusual “training exercises” all over the nation. So are the elite doing all of this in order to prepare for something really BIG, or should we just chalk up all of this strange activity to rampant government paranoia?

First, let’s talk about what the New York Fed has been doing. What kind of natural disaster would be bad enough to completely shut down the operations of the New York Federal Reserve Bank? It would have to be something very unusual, and apparently the New York Fed is very concerned that such an event could happen. According to Reuters, the New York Fed has been transferring personnel to Chicago and building up its satellite office there just in case a “natural disaster” makes it impossible for normal operations to continue in New York…
The New York branch of the U.S. Federal Reserve, wary that a natural disaster or other eventuality could shut down its market operations as it approaches an interest rate hike, has added staff and bulked up its satellite office in Chicago.

Some market technicians have transferred from New York and others were hired at the office housed in the Chicago Fed, according to several people familiar with the build-out that began about two years ago, after Hurricane Sandy struck Manhattan.

Officials believe the Chicago staffers can now handle all of the market operations that are done daily out of the New York Fed, which is the U.S. central bank’s main conduit to Wall Street.

This seems very odd.

72-Year-Old Southern Woman Rails Against Feminism and Dependency

A video of a 72-year-old southern black woman’s tirade against modern women, lazy men, and people living off of welfare is catching fire online.

“We had mothers to raise us, they raised us to be women and raise our own children!”

The woman, who is called Mother Agnus by the man filming the rant, is full of opinion. While some would call her notions old-fashioned, the quick tongued, feisty woman with traditional values is resonating with internet users.

Muslim Migrants Arrested For Throwing Christians Overboard

Italian police said Thursday that 15 African Muslim migrants have been arrested after witnesses said the refugees threw 12 Christians into the Mediterranean following a brawl.

Palermo police told the Associated Press that they had learned of the assault while interviewing tearful survivors from Nigeria and Ghana who had arrived in the city Wednesday morning after being rescued at sea by the ship Ellensborg.

The 15 were accused of multiple homicide aggravated by religious hatred, police said in a statement.

The survivors said they had boarded a rubber boat April 14 on the Libyan coast with 105 passengers aboard, part of the wave of migrants taking advantage of calm seas and warm weather to make the risky crossing from Libya, where most smuggling operations originate.

During the crossing, the migrants from Nigeria and Ghana — believed to be Christians — were threatened with being abandoned at sea by some 15 other passengers from the Ivory Coast, Senegal, Mali and Guinea Bissau.

Eventually the threat was carried out and 12 were pushed overboard. The statement said the motive was that the victims "professed the Christian faith while the aggressors were Muslim."

Rescued cat nurses sick animals back to health

A cat that was saved from dying on the streets of Poland has now become a “nurse” to other animals in the shelter, Central European News (CEN) reported.

Rademenes, a black cat, was 8 months old when he was taken to the animal shelter in Bydgoszcz in northern Poland, balding and suffering from breathing problems.

“He was in a terrible state, and I decided that the best thing for him would be to put him down to end his suffering,” vet Lucyna Kuziel–Zawalich, 46, told CEN.

But when Rademenes began to recover overnight, the vet decided to give him a chance.

Why I, Unlike Senator Rubio, Would Not Attend a Gay Wedding

On your happy day you should be surrounded by people who can honor your vow and help you keep it. I can’t do that.

Senator Marco Rubio, one of our most attractive and charismatic leaders in the rising generation, just announced he’s running for president. So naturally he’s being peppered with the one question uppermost in the minds of American voters: What do you think of gay marriage?

Rubio is getting this hit, in part, because he’s trying to negotiate a Third Way: He’s for traditional marriage but will “respect” the rights of states to disagree. He thinks states should have the right to decide the definition of marriage, but (unlike Ted Cruz) he refused to sign onto an amicus brief asking the Supreme Court to leave the definition of marriage to the states, and he says he will “respect” whatever the Supreme Court decides.

David Ray Godfrey of Waterford was charged Friday with attempted malicious wounding and reckless driving. He was released on bond.

Funeral held for family killed by carbon monoxide poisoning

PRINCESS ANNE — The images were as overwhelming as the tragedy that stunned this Somerset County town two weeks ago.

Eight identical white hearses gleaming in Saturday's sunshine, side by side in a driveway. Eight white-draped coffins lined up in an auditorium, their lids open to reveal the bodies of victims arranged from the youngest, a 6-year-old girl, on the right to the oldest, her 36-year-old father, on the left.

A steady line of mourners wore expressions of disbelief, numbness and grief as they paid their last respects to the Todd family, a father and seven children who died of carbon monoxide poisoning as they slept.

OBAMA DEMANDS 'WELCOMING' FOR ILLEGALS

President Obama’s White House Task Force on Creating Welcoming Communities unveiled its recommendations Friday for a national strategy to “integrate” millions of immigrants and refugees into cities and towns across the U.S.

The chair of the task force, Obama’s domestic policy adviser Cecilia Muñoz, said her focus is on making sure Obama’s historic immigration policies get “institutionalized” so they will live on long after she and her boss are gone from the White House.

Obama created the task force Nov. 21 when he announced his plan to unilaterally grant amnesty to more than 5 million illegal immigrants and child migrants. His administration is also bringing in 70,000 foreign refugees per year from places like Iraq, Somalia, Bhutan, Burma and Syria.

Friday’s conference was titled “The New National Integration Plan: Making the Most of a Historic Opportunity.”

Holder’s Gun Ban List Targets Veterans

Disarmament of the American people begins with veterans

In 2009 the federal government said in the now infamous rightwing extremism document leaked to Infowars and others that “veterans possess combat skills and experience that are attractive to rightwing extremists” and that the government was concerned these extremists would “attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to boost their violent capabilities.”

On Wednesday the Attorney General was grilled by the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee about a list denying veterans their Second Amendment right under the Constitution. The Justice Department considers the former soldiers on the list to be “mental defective.”

“It’s disturbing to think that the men and women who dedicated themselves to defending our freedom and values face undue threats to their fundamental Second Amendment rights from the very agency established to serve them,” Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley said in a statement Wednesday. “A veteran or dependent shouldn’t lose their constitutional rights because they need help with bookkeeping.”

The Justice Department has worked with the Department of Veterans Affairs to add “a disproportionate number of names” to the federal gun ban list.

Man pleads guilty in case over young daughter’s rotten teeth

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — The father of a 6-year-old girl whose teeth were so rotten her life was endangered pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment on Friday.

Kenneth Wanamaker Jr. pleaded guilty weeks before a scheduled trial in the case, The Morning Call newspaper in Allentown reported (http://bit.ly/1G1WgCw). A dentist had testified the girl’s teeth were in such bad shape they posed a potentially fatal threat to her health, the newspaper said.

Wanamaker also pleaded guilty to false swearing and is eligible for parole. His sentence is two months to a year, but he’s been in jail since having his bail revoked in December for failing to enroll in drug treatment.

NEVER STAND IN LINE AGAIN

Some men carry and handle their diplomacy better than others.

When former U.S. Military Commander in Afghanistan, General McChrystal, was called into the Oval Office by Barack Obama, he knew things weren't going to go well when the President accused him of not supporting him in his political role as President.

"It's not my job to support you as a politician, Mr. President, it's my job to support you as Commander-in-Chief," McChrystal replied, and he handed Obama his resignation.

Not satisfied with accepting McChrystal's resignation, the President made a cheap parting shot.

"I bet when I die you'll be happy to pee on my grave."

The General saluted and said, "Mr. President, I always told myself after leaving the Army I'd never stand in line again."

There will be 18 vintage vehicles and motorcars dating back to the late 1800’s.

WWII Wreck Gives Up Millions in Silver

The deepest salvage operation in history has recovered a haul of coins that Britain planned to use to fund the fight against Nazi Germany 73 years ago.

The SS City of Cairo was carrying 100 tons of silver rupees from India in November 1942 when it was hit by a torpedo from a German U-boat and sank nearly 17,000 feet to the bottom of the Atlantic, reports CNN.

Underwater recovery company Deep Ocean Search, working under a contract from the British government, brought up coins worth millions from the record-breaking depth. The 100 tons would be worth about $50 million today, and the salvage team's leader tells the BBC a "large percentage" of the coins were reclaimed.

The haul, recovered in 2013 but only disclosed now, was melted and sold, with the proceeds split between the company and Britain's Treasury. The wreck, which sits more than 4,000 feet deeper than the Titanic, is also the grave of six people who died in the sinking.

College Field Trip Includes Only Black Students

Parents criticized Indiana school officials Thursday for a trip planned to local colleges that was only offered to black third-graders, ABC 57 reported.

School officials defended the trip, saying the outing sends a positive message to black students who may believe the prospect of college is out of reach.

"We take them to a college campus, have them meet African-American students, modeling the idea that as a black person, college is a great place," Dr. G. David Moss, the head of the African-American services at the South Bend Community Schools Corporation, told the station.

The initiative has been criticized by parents in the community, not because of its ambitions, but because it excludes students with other backgrounds.

'Do Not Deport Me' Card

One congressman is spearheading an effort to help undocumented immigrants avoid deportation with what some are calling a “get out of deportation” free card.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) and other House Democrats have created the Family Defender Toolkit, an informational pamphlet that includes an "emergency card" that lists the reasons why a person should not be deported.

“By using this card after you’ve been arrested or detained, you can explain that under the policy in place today, you should be released because you are not a priority for deportation,” said Rep. Gutierrez in an introductory video.

The two-page booklet details what legal documents immigrants should prepare in order to avoid deportation under President Obama’s immigration action-- even though the action is currently being held by a court injunction.

“I created this toolkit for you to protect yourself from deportation. Even though you cannot apply yet for the expanded DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and new DAPA (Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents) you can still prepare,” said Gutierrez.

Military Increasingly 'Hostile' to Christians, Groups Say

There is an exodus of Christians from the military because of a "hostile work environment" that does not allow them to express their beliefs openly while others are discouraged from joining in the first place, say religious freedom advocates.

They point to a number of recent high-profile cases of military chaplains facing punishment for private religious counseling sessions, and say such cases could cause some with strong faith to reconsider joining the military.

"People of faith are going to stay away from the military," Michael Berry, senior counsel at the Liberty Institute, a Texas-based legal organization dedicated to defending religious liberty in America, told The Washington Times.

In December, a chaplain for a Ranger training battalion was sent an administrative letter of concern after a soldier complained that he had promoted Christianity and used a Bible during a mandatory suicide-prevention training session.

Last month, a Navy chaplain was removed from his job and may lose his career after complaints about his private counseling during which he discouraged homosexuality and sex outside of marriage.

"I can't tell you how many moms and dads I've spoken to who say, 'my son or daughter wants to join the military, [but] in light of what you've described, I'm not sure I want to let them join the military anymore,' and I don't blame them. I would have serious reservations about my own kids joining," Berry said.

Bill: Killing Unborn Could Be Murder--Unless Mom or Medical Pro Does It

(CNSNews) – Republican lawmakers in Colorado have introduced a bill that would allow someone to be charged with murder for killing an unborn child, prompted by the attack on a pregnant woman whose baby was cut from her womb.

Michelle Wilkins was responding to a Craigslist ad for baby clothes on March 18 when she was beaten and her baby, Aurora, was cut from her womb and later died. Dynel Lane was charged with the attack on Wilkins and with unlawful termination of a pregnancy – which carries a penalty of up to 32 years in jail - but not for Aurora’s murder.

District Attorney Stan Garnett said that’s because the coroner concluded that Aurora was not alive outside the womb, so the baby did not qualify as a person under state law, TheDenverChannel.com reported on March 26.

China Building Runway on Contested Island

Satellite images show China is building a runway on a contested island in the South China Sea that will accommodate military aircraft such as fighter jets and surveillance planes, giving the Communist nation a major strategic advantage.

Military analysts have long specualated that China was planning to build the runway on Fiery Cross Reef, a part of the Spratly Islands, reports The New York Times. And on Thursday, Jane's Defense Weekly released a satellite image proving the construction is under way.

The image, shot on March 23, shows the first section of the runway on the island, which sits in an archipelago that's being claimed by China and at least two other countries. The satellite shot also shows that work is underway on an apron that will be used to taxi or park planes.

The new runway is expected to stretch to about 10,000 feet long, which can handle fighter jets and surveillance aircraft, and Peter Dutton, professor of strategic studies at the Naval War College, told The Times that the construction marks a significant issue in the fight for control of the South China Sea.

“This is a major strategic event,” Mr. Dutton said. “In order to have sea control, you need to have air control.”

Administration Gave Social Security Numbers to 541,000 Illegal Aliens

(CNSNews) – Social Security numbers (SSNs) were given to 541,000 illegal aliens, according to Carolyn Colvin, acting commissioner of the Social Security Administration (SSA).

In a March 12 letter, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) had asked SSA: “How many individuals have applied for SSNs as a result of the June 15, 2012, memorandum issued by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano entitled ‘Exercising Prosecutorial Discretion with Respect to Individuals Who Came to the United States as Children'?”

“By the end of fiscal year (FY) 2014, we had issued approximately 541,000 original SSNs to individuals authorized to work under the 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy since its inception,” Colvin said in her April 10 response.

Bill faces pushback in Annapolis

State Sen. Jim Mathias (D-38) said Wednesday that there are other avenues to success with his effort to create a statewide after-Labor Day school start date.

Mathias expressed his frustration over the pushback in Annapolis that revolved around “anything other than the text of the bill.”

The effort to start schools after Labor Day began in 2013 with Comptroller Peter Franchot, and a petition drive that ended with more than 13,000 signatures in support. Mathias was the primary sponsor of the Senate bill that would have turned the signatures into a law this year.

Lawmaker Rethinking Welfare Drug-testing Proposal

Just hours after the Indiana House voted to approve a drug-testing requirement for welfare recipients, the lawmaker who proposed the idea says he is rethinking it.

Rep. Terry Goodin, a Democrat from a conservative-leaning Southern Indiana district, surprised many people when he proposed the testing requirement in a last-minute amendment on the House floor Tuesday.

His reason: He wanted to help stop a fast-moving HIV outbreak in Scott County that has been fueled by illegal drug use. More than 100 people have been infected.

The Republican-controlled House eagerly approved the measure Wednesday on an 83-13 vote.

But Goodin is now reconsidering his proposal after learning from The Indianapolis Star that only nine adults in Scott County receive payments through the welfare program known as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. About 60 additional adults receive benefits on behalf of 93 children.

The Annual Picnic

One of the biggest events in my young life during the 1940’s was the annual Martin & Schwartz summer picnic. Martin & Schwartz was the company that moved here from Buffalo, NY in 1939. It was subsequently named Wayne Pump Co., followed by Dresser Industries. The picnic was held at various places such as Sandy Hill in 1948 and Cedar Grove on the Choptank River near Cambridge in 1949. The 1948 picnic had 284 people in attendance, and the records show that about 290 attended in 1949. The festivities were for all of the employees of Martin & Schwartz and their families. It seemed as if everybody that worked there attended. On this special day there were no “bosses”, and the “brass” acted like regular human beings. One of the greatest traits a person can have is to laugh at themselves. Everybody seemed to get a real kick out of seeing someone who is usually so serious entered into the many contests that were held.

There were the usual activities at the picnic, such as the balloon race (pictured above) and a tug-of-war. At Cedar Grove, in 1949, there were motor boat rides. It is still in my memory seeing usually serious men and women acting like children. They had contests geared for the different age groups so that everybody had a chance to enter something. Swimming was also available if you so desired.

The picnics started at 1 P. M. with the commencement of the games and festivities. Socializing with the other members of the Martin & Schwartz “family” was always enjoyable. And that is what it was – a family. Mothers would show off their new additions, and the men would just enjoy themselves for a few hours without the pressures of work. Of course, to us children, just being at the picnic was a new and different experience. I was only four and five during these two picnics, so I imagine I stayed pretty close to Mom.

A fried chicken dinner was served at 5:30, followed by the drawing for the four grand prizes. The prizes consisted of the following: (1948) a $25.00 savings bond, a table radio, a pop-up toaster and a first-grade surf-casting fishing reel and (1949) a $25.00 savings bond, large Pfleuger fishing reel, a portable Philco radio and a fancy aluminum fishing tackle box. The prizes seem pretty paltry by today’s standards, but they were a big deal back in the 1940’s.

I don’t know when they ceased having these picnics, but they were probably lost in the shuffle of all the corporate changes that began to be made in the early 1950’s.

Police: Man Dies In Custody, Stun Gun Used During Arrest

A man died in police custody early Friday after officers used a stun gun to subdue him outside a home he had broken into, prompting the frightened children inside to call 911, according to the Hagerstown Police Department and witnesses.

Witnesses said the officers acted professionally in taking down the man Thursday night as he cursed at police and ignored their commands to get down. An officer fired a stun gun from at least six feet away after the man moved toward him in an aggressive manner, said Robert Holmes, who said he watched the incident.

"They wasn't physical or nothing like that. They were pretty much doing their job," Holmes said.

Police said the man appeared to be under the influence of drugs. They said he remained uncooperative as he was handcuffed and placed in an ambulance.

Mid-Atlantic Wrestling Association Brings Wrestlers and Revenue to Wicomico County

Salisbury, MD – The Mid-Atlantic Wrestling Association held its Southern Regionals at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center (WY&CC) on April 10-12. The event, which brought over 3,300 participants including wrestlers, coaches and families to the WY&CC, generated an estimated $1.2 million economic impact for Wicomico County.*

Just under 1100 wrestlers competed in the Southern Regionals, traveling from other parts of MD, as well as DE, VA, WV, PA, NJ and DC. There were seven age divisions, which included wrestlers as young as five years old and adults over eighteen. In addition to the participating wrestlers, parents, coaches and siblings attended the event, creating a hotel room night demand of over 800 rooms. In addition to spending the night, visitors also shopped, dined and enjoyed the area’s attractions during their stay.

The Southern Regionals serve as a qualifier for the Eastern Nationals, which will bring an additional 1,200 wrestlers to the area on May 1-3. The National event is expected to generate an economic impact twice that of the Southern Regionals, at $2.4 million.

Wicomico County’s Tourism Division first brought the Mid-Atlantic Wrestling Association events to the area in 2006, and the organization has committed to hold both its Southern and National Regionals at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center through 2018.

(UPPER MARLBORO, MD) -- A Prince George's County man was arrested today and charged with multiple counts of child pornography after an investigation by members of the Maryland State Police, Computer Crimes Section, Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The suspect is identified as Sean A. Rosser, 26, of Upper Marlboro, Md. Rosser turned himself in to State Police today. Investigators identified Rosser as the focus of the investigation. Service of the search warrant resulted in the recovery of a computer in Rosser's control believed to contain images of child pornography. Child pornography was confirmed during a forensic review by State Police Computer Crimes Unit investigators.

The Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is comprised of police agencies from around the state. Its primary mission is to protect children from computer-facilitated sexual exploitation. The Task Force works cooperatively with law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to provide resources to combat these crimes. Additionally, the Task Force provides community awareness campaigns helping to prevent the spread of these crimes through education.

Arizona Governor signs bill making ballot access more difficult for Libertarians

Amount of signatures necessary to get on the ballot will rise dramatically

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey today signed bill HB 2608, which makes it much harder for Libertarian candidates to get on the primary ballot.

All party candidates much participate in primary elections in Arizona, but before today a candidate only needed signatures equal to 1/2 of 1% of the party’s registered voters in the district of the office for the office in which they were running.

Now, all statewide candidates must collect signatures equal to 1/4 of 1% of the party’s registered voters and registered Independents. Non-statewide candidates must collect 1/2 of 1% of the party’s registered voters plus registered Independents.

Since Independents represent almost 36% of the registered voters in the state, the amount of signatures necessary to get on the ballot will rise dramatically.

For example, before the new law was signed today, a 2016 statewide candidate would have need 139 signatures to get on the primary ballot. Now, such a candidate will need 2,987 signatures.
