Muslim woman in traditional dress barred from swimming in public pool with her children
A Colorado city is promising to revise its swimsuit rules after a Muslim woman was turned away from its recreation center pool for wearing an Islamic dress over a shirt and pants.
Saba Ali said that she offered to just wear the shirt and pants to swim on Sunday but was denied.
Commerce City spokeswoman Michelle Halstead says street clothes aren't allowed in the pool because they can increase the likelihood of contamination and waterborne illness.

Florida Football Is Blowing Up
GATORS’ FRESHMAN QUARTERBACK ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ASSUALT
The University of Florida cancelled a scheduled press conference featuring embattled head coach Will Muschamp on Monday less than an hour before it was scheduled to begin.
The issue? Rumors of an investigation involving freshman quarterback Treon Harris – who entered the Gators’ game against Tennessee during the fourth quarter on Saturday and led the team to a 10-9 come-from-behind victory over the Tennessee Volunteers.
“University of Florida student athlete Treon Harris is accused of sexually assaulting a female student early Sunday morning in a residence hall on the UF campus,” a statement from the school read. “The University of Florida Police Department is investigating the incident, and UFPD has brought in the Gainesville Police Department to assist with collection and analysis of forensic evidence. The investigation is ongoing and the university does not have an update regarding any charges at this time.”
Wow …
In relief of starting quarterback Jeff Driskel, Harris completed 2 of 4 passes for 17 yards against Tennessee – and ran the football four times for 24 yards. The Gators scored on both of his first two possessions under center – after failing to score on ten previous drives with Driskel running the offense.
The 5-foot-11, 178-pound Harris is a true freshman from Miami, Florida. He led Booker T. Washington high school to back-to-back state championships in 2012 and 2013.

Why Are We Paying $300 Million to Help the Brazilian Cotton Industry?
Taxpayers are being forced to pay $300 million to help the cotton industry–theBrazilian cotton industry–in order to resolve a long-standing dispute between the U.S. and Brazil over cotton subsidies.
In 2002, Brazil brought an action against the United States arguing that American cotton subsidies violated World Trade Organization rules. The Congressional Research Service explains:

In September 2004, after nearly a year-long period of hearings and review, a WTO dispute settlement panel found that certain U.S. agricultural support payments and guarantees were inconsistent with WTO commitments and resulted in market distortions that depressed international cotton prices, as asserted by Brazil.More
EBOLA VICTIMS WITHOUT SYMPTOMS CAN STILL BE CONTAGIOUS
German doctors show CDC wrong about spread of disease
NEW YORK – A group of German medical doctors in a peer-reviewed medical journal article published by Oxford University Press have challenged a key assumption regarding the Ebola virus repeatedly asserted by Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
The researchers found that a patient showing no symptoms of the disease can still transmit a virus like Ebola by air if droplets containing the virus are transmitted to another person by a sneeze or cough.
As WND reported Tuesday, the World Health Organization has admitted that “wet and bigger droplets from a heavily infected individual, who has respiratory symptoms caused by other conditions or who vomits violently could transmit the Ebola virus over a short distance to another nearby person.”
WHO said it could happen when “virus-laden heavy droplets are directly propelled, by coughing or sneezing onto the mucus membranes or skin with cuts or abrasions of another person.”
Still, WHO added a qualification, insisting the transmission of Ebola by sneezing or coughing is not within its definition of airborne transmission.

‘Governing for Results’ Series Recognizes Nearly 500 Maryland Schools Meeting School Breakfast Participation Goal
BALTIMORE, MD – Governor Martin O’Malley today visited Franklin Square Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore to share breakfast with students and emphasize gains Maryland schools have made in providing school breakfast to students. The visit is the latest event in the ‘Governing For Results’ series, a statewide initiative to promote the O’Malley-Brown Administration’s 16 strategic goals, with today’s event highlighting progress towards ending childhood hunger in Maryland.
Since the 2008 launch of the Partnership to End Childhood Hunger in Maryland, the O’Malley-Brown Administration has worked with non-profits, advocates, business leaders, and others to connect more children to federal nutrition programs, including school breakfast. Through private funding, technical assistance, outreach, and increased State investment in the Maryland Meals for Achievement program (MMFA), hundreds of additional schools have connected nearly 70,000 additional children to a school breakfast.
“Increasing access to a school breakfast is one of the most effective actions we can take to prepare our students to learn and achieve every single day,” said Governor O’Malley. “In Maryland, we came together to overcome barriers to participation because we believe that there is no such thing as a spare Marylander and that every child deserves a healthy start to their day.”

Ebola and Obama
The president’s official reassurances about the virus and other dangers have become worthless.
The Ebola outbreak in West Africa is both a danger in itself and a wake-up call for Americans — about President Obama, about the institutions of this country, and, most important, about ourselves.
There was a time when an outbreak of a deadly disease overseas would bring virtually unanimous agreement that our top priority should be to keep it overseas. Yet Barack Obama has refused to bar entry to the United States by people from countries where the Ebola epidemic rages, as Britain has done.
The reason? Refusing to let people with Ebola enter the United States would conflict with the goal of fighting the disease. In other words, the safety of the American people takes second place to the goal of helping people overseas.
As if to emphasize his priorities, President Obama has ordered thousands of American troops to go into Ebola-stricken Liberia, disregarding the dangers to those troops and to other Americans when the troops return.
What does this say about Obama?

MORICI: Jobs and Obama's political woes
Despite another seemingly good jobs report, President Obama’s approval rating is lower than a snake’s belly, and Republicans could retake the Senate in November.
Missteps in the Ukraine, Iraq and elsewhere weigh on voters’ minds but the economy—especially the jobs picture—is not what Obama cracks them up to be.
Obama has managed to increase employment only 5.5 million or about 4 percent but measured against other presidents facing similar challenges, his performance is hardly stellar.
Ronald Reagan was dealt a tough hand by history too. He weathered a deep recession early in his first term and unemployment peaked at 10.8 percent. He cut spending and taxes, eliminated much unnecessary government meddling in business and boosted employment 8.4 million, or more than 9 percent, his first five and a half years.
The 5.9 percent unemployment rate is a fraud. The percentage of adults working or seeking employment is the lowest since women began entering the labor force in larger numbers in the 1970s.

ISIS Graffiti In Northwest D.C. Puts FBI On Alert
WASHIINGTON (WJLA) – With the FBI on alert for home-grown terrorists, the agency is monitoring troubling cases of vandalism in Northwest D.C. that seem to express support for so-called Islamic State militants.
Graffiti on a traffic camera at the busy intersection of Connecticut Avenue NW and Calvert Street NW reads, in Arabic, “Allah Akbar” followed by “ISIS,” referring to the terror group.
“It’s strange,” said tourist Lacey Rase. “I don’t know why anyone would do that.”
“It probably was a prank,” said D.C. resident Tim Schwedes. “I’m not going to announce it to anybody if I actually plan on doing something.”

The problem isn’t the world spinning too fast, Mr President, it’s you flip-flopping too often
How Obama’s broken promises have put America in danger
If you’re President of the United States, and therefore unofficial Leader of the Free World, then your most important job every day is to make everyone feel calm and secure even as chaos reigns.
POTUS is supposed to be a global figurehead for stability.
That’s why when George W Bush was told about the second World Trade Center attack while sitting in a classroom full of kids, he didn’t jump up and race out of the room. He remained sitting, determined not to exude fear or panic in front of the cameras. It’s what Presidents have to do.
That’s also why Martin Sheen’s character President Jed Bartlet in the West Wing was so popular – he took everything, even being shot, in his easy, confident, reassuring stride.
Yet today, Barack Obama gave a speech to fellow Democrats in New York where he said the following words: ‘There’s a sense possibly that the world is spinning so fast and nobody is able to control it.’

Montgomery County Will Not Hold Immigrants Without Probable Cause
Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett said Tuesday the county will not comply with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement civil detainer requests, unless there is adequate probable cause under the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Leggett’s statement comes on the heels of an identical directive from Gov. Martin J. O’Malley to the Public Safety and Correctional Services Secretary Gregg Hershberger for a state-run jail in Baltimore, and advice from the Attorney General’s Office that without probable cause, continued detention likely violates the constitution.
Immigration detainers are notices to local law enforcement agencies that ICE intends to assume custody of an individual being held locally. Detainers not only notify local law enforcement that ICE means to take a person into custody once they are no longer subject to local detention, detainers also request the local agency hold individuals for up to 48 hours after their scheduled release to provide ICE time to take custody, according to www.ice.gov.
According to a news release from the American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland, federal courts have found that detention on the sole basis of an immigration detainer request violates the Fourth Amendment. Three federal courts have found that such detention raises constitutional concerns and that counties are liable in damages to the individuals they detain on that basis, according to the release.

Paulson admits he saw the big banks as indispensible
Here’s an important and underappreciated aspect of the Wall Street bailout, and of the tenures of Hank Paulson, Tim Geithner and Ben Bernanke: They believed that the Big Banks were an indispensable part of the U.S. economy. We just couldn’t get by without them.
It’s not a crazy idea. It’s not even necessarily as corrupt as it may sound. It may be a mistaken idea. But I’ve written before that I thought Geithner truly believed this, and this was a fairly innocent explanation for his solicitousness toward them. My critique of TARP is not that the government intervened, but that the government intervened with the aim of saving the banks, rather than winding down the failed banks in an orderly manner.
Hank Paulson’s testimony at the AIG trial has been telling in this regard. He has testified as to why AIG needed to be stripped down, and he’s made it clear that this was in contrast to the banks.

MD Sheriff: Feds Releasing Criminal Aliens for 'Political' Reasons
Frederick County, MD Sheriff Chuck Jenkins accused the federal government of taking illegal aliens who have committed crimes and “releasing the back onto our streets,” and argued that the lack of enforcement is “political” on Thursday’s “Laura Ingraham Show.”
“What they’re doing is taking people who we’ve arrested on local and state charges here in Frederick County, once they’ve served their sentences, they’re adjudicated where we turn them over to ICE, instead of deporting, they’re releasing them back onto our streets…this president, this administration is not protecting our country” he said.

Obama unveils new Healthcare.gov site - with the FIRST WORD of the Spanish-language version spelled wrong
The Obama administration unveiled a new version of HealthCare.gov on Wednesday, with some improvements as well as at least one early mistake and a new challenge.
Officials also said that HealthCare.gov won't display premiums for 2015 until the second week of November. Open enrollment season runs Nov. 15 through Feb. 15. Coverage can start as early as Jan. 1.
On the plus side, the health insurance website will feature a streamlined application for most of those signing up for the first time. Seventy-six screens in the online application have been reduced to 16, officials said. The site has been also optimized for mobile devices.

12 Reasons Why Ithaca, New York Is The Best College Town In America
The American Institute of Economic Research released its annual list of the best college towns in the country this week — naming Ithaca, New York as the best destination for students.
Ithaca is home to both Cornell University and Ithaca College, and is truly a welcoming and comfortable setting for students. As a former four-year resident of the town, I could not agree more with the AIER's findings (I graduated from Cornell last year).
Based on my own experiences, Ithaca is the perfect mixture of giving students everything they would want in a college experience and offering seemingly endless opportunities to explore a unique local culture.

The Hidden Government Group Linking JFK, Watergate, Iran-Contra and 9/11
Peter Dale Scott is considered the father of “Deep Politics”— the study of hidden permanent institutions and interests whose influence on the political realm transcends the elected, appointed and career officials who come and go.
A Professor of English at Berkeley and a former Canadian diplomat, he is the author of several critically acclaimed books on the pivotal events of our country’s recent past, including Deep Politics and the Death of JFK; Drugs, Oil, and War: The United States in Afghanistan, Colombia, and Indochina (War and Peace Library); The Road to 9/11: Wealth, Empire, and the Future of America
and American War Machine: Deep Politics, the CIA Global Drug Connection, and the Road to Afghanistan (War and Peace Library) . He is also a poet, whose long work, Coming to Jakarta: A Poem about Terror, was hailed as “the most important political poem to appear in the English language in a very long time,” by Robert Hass, Poet Laureate of the United States from 1995 to 1997.
Daniel Ellsberg said of his book Drugs, Oil and War, “It makes most academic and journalistic explanations of our past and current interventions read like government propaganda written for children.”
What follows is based on a recent Scott lecture entitled “The JFK Assassination and Other Deep Events”, and will be expanded on further in his next book, The American Deep State, due out in November.
***
For some time now, I have been analyzing American history in the light of what I have called structural deep events: events, like the JFK assassination, the Watergate break-in, Iran-Contra, or 9/11, which repeatedly involve law-breaking or violence, are mysterious to begin with, are embedded in ongoing covert processes, have political consequences that enlarge covert government, and are subsequently covered up by systematic falsifications in the mainstream media and internal government records.
The more I study these deep events, the more I see suggestive similarities between them, increasing the possibility that they are not unrelated external intrusions on American history, but parts of an endemic process, sharing to some degree or other a common source.

It’s Time to Take the Islamic State Seriously
Islam has no central or definitive body or figure authorized to define what exactly it is. Opinions about its essence and scope vary widely according to the political or philosophic background of its own interpreters. The current effort to establish an Islamic State, with a designated Caliph, again to take up the mission assigned to Islam, brings to our attention the question: “What is Islam?”
The issue of “terror” is a further aspect of this same understanding. Many outside Islam seek to separate “terror” and “Islam” as if they were, in their usage, independent or even opposed ideas. This latter view is almost impossible seriously to maintain in the light of Islamic history and the text of the Qur’an itself.
John Kerry, however, insists that what we see is “terrorism” with nothing to do with Islam. The Obama administration seems to have a rule never to identify Islam with “terrorism,” no matter what the evidence or what representatives of the Islamic State themselves say. The vice-president speaks of “Hell” in connection with actions of the Islamic State. Diane Feinstein speaks of “evil” behind the current slaughters in Iraq and Syria. The pope mentions “stopping aggression.” The English hate-laws prevent frank and honest discussion of what actually goes on in Islamic countries or communities in the West. Not even Winston Churchill’s critical view of Islam is permitted to be read in public.

Keep Ebola Out of America
Let’s treat victims abroad before letting them back into the country.
As the Ebola infection rate and death toll continue to rise rapidly on the African continent, many of us have become complacent with the measures we have taken to protect Americans from this deadly disease.
Other nations, such as England, have gone so far as to ban flights bound from the affected regions of Africa. The Centers for Disease Control and various infectious-disease specialists have done a yeoman’s job in their efforts to prevent infected individuals in our country from contaminating others. They have put excellent protocols in place that would virtually guarantee complete safety. Unfortunately, all of those valiant efforts cannot preclude human error, which remains an ever-present danger, regardless of intellect.
For this reason, I and many others are not comfortable with the idea of bringing infected individuals into our midst when we can readily treat them elsewhere and happily receive them back once the infectious danger has passed.
When one does a logical benefit-to-risk analysis, it is clear that the worst things that could happen by intentionally bringing this dangerous disease to America are far worse than the best things that could happen. Some say if we bring infected individuals here, it will accelerate research endeavors and a potential cure or effective vaccination. Others say that not bringing infected citizens back demonstrates an insensitivity toward wonderful people who risk their lives for others. I am sympathetic to these arguments, and if we did not have safer alternatives, they would convince me.

General: If Ebola Reaches Central America, 'There Will Be Mass Migration into the U.S.'
Those looking for good news on the fight against Ebola will not find much encouragement from Marine Corps Gen. John F. Kelly, the commander of the U.S. Southern Command. As Jim Garamone of Department of Defense News reports, Kelly told an audience at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday that, if the disease reaches Central America, "it’s literally, ‘Katie bar the door,’ and there will be mass migration into the United States." He also said with certainty that "there is no way we can keep Ebola [contained] in West Africa."
“By the end of the year, there’s supposed to be 1.4 million people infected with Ebola and 62 percent of them dying, according to the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention]..."
“So, much like West Africa, it will rage for a period of time,” Kelly said.
This is particularly possible scenario if the disease gets to Haiti or Central America, he said. If the disease gets to countries like Guatemala, Honduras or El Salvador, it will cause a panic and people will flee the region, the general said.
“If it breaks out, it’s literally, ‘Katie bar the door,’ and there will be mass migration into the United States,” Kelly said. “They will run away from Ebola, or if they suspect they are infected, they will try to get to the United States for treatment.”

America usurped: $17 TRILLION China overtakes US as the the world's largest economy, says IMF
As America falls into second place for the first time since 1872
China has toppled America to become the biggest economy in the world, according to figures from the International Monetary Fund.
The White House seemed caught flat-footed by the news, crowing on Wednesday about America's relative economic strength in comparison with the rest of the world.
The US has been the global leader since it overtook Britain in 1872, but has now lost its status as top dog.
The latest IMF figures show the Chinese economy is worth $17.61 trillion compared with $17.4 trillion for the U.S.

US suicide rate hits 25-year high according to new government report
Americans are living longer than ever before according to a new government report which has found that U.S. life expectancy continues to inch up while death rates also fell.
Rates dropped or held steady for all the leading causes of death with the exception of suicide, which reached its highest point in 25 years.
The number of suicides has been increasing since 2000 and 'it's really hard to say why,' said Robert Anderson, who oversees the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention branch that issued the report on Wednesday.

AG Gansler Announces $105 Million Cramming Settlement with AT&T Mobility
Consumer refunds available for unauthorized premium text message services
Baltimore, MD (Oct. 10, 2014) - Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler announced today that his office's Consumer Protection Division, along with the Attorneys General of the other 49 states and the District of Columbia, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Federal Communications Commission, reached settlement with AT&T Mobility, LLC that include a $105 million payment. The agreement resolves allegations that AT&T Mobility placed charges for third-party services on consumers' mobile telephone bills that had not been authorized by the consumer, a practice known as “mobile cramming."“Mysterious fees started showing up on consumers' bills for services they never signed up for," said Attorney General Gansler. “This settlement provides refunds for overcharged consumers and puts in place tough standards to prevent unauthorized charges from appearing on consumers' bills."
Consumers who have been “crammed" often complain about charges -- typically $9.99 per month -- for “premium" text message services (also known as “PSMS") such as horoscopes, trivia, and sports scores that they never heard of or requested. The attorneys general and federal regulators allege that cramming occurred when AT&T Mobility placed charges on consumers' mobile telephone bills for these services without the consumer's knowledge or consent.

McDermott Outlines Why He Is Running For State Senate
“To bring Eastern Shore values to the table in Annapolis, this is why I am running, because you deserve a voice...I have stood up for you in the House, and I will fight for you in the Senate.” said candidate for State Senate, Delegate Mike McDermott during a PAC 14 interview last week. During the course of the interview with Phil Tilghman, McDermott touched on a wide variety of issues currently facing the Eastern Shore, including economic instability, education, and tax hikes.
“We don’t need followers, that place is full of followers...getting elected is not the end goal. We need leaders from the shore to go up there and represent our values” said McDermott when asked how to move the Eastern Shore forward. “Our people are hurting, they deserve better” concluded McDermott.
McDermott’s full interview with Tilghman can be viewed by clicking the link below. In just 30 minutes, McDermott outlines his reason for running for the State Senate seat in District 38. If you want to make an informed choice come election day, this piece is for you.
Hardly Anyone Uses Heroin. So Why Do We Keep Freaking Out About It?
Heroin deaths are on the rise, according to the Centers for Disease Control. The overdose death rate from heroin doubled in two years, from 1 death per 100,000 population in 2010 to 2.1 deaths in 2012. These statistics are alarming, and they are likely to add to a collective heroin freak-out that's been ongoing since at least February this year, when Philip Seymour Hoffmann overdosed on heroin and some other drugs. But it's important to keep these numbers in context. To wit:
Heroin use is vanishingly rare.
We don't know exactly how many people regularly use heroin in the United States. That's partly because relatively few people actually use it, which makes counting these people via traditional means, like surveys, difficult to do.
A floor estimate comes from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), which showed 289,000 monthly heroin users in 2013. That works out to about one tenth of one percent of all Americans aged 12+. There's good reason to suspect that people under-report heroin use, however. An alternative measure developed by researchers at the RAND corp. for the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy suggests there may be as many as 1.5 million regular heroin users -- that is, those who use the drug four days a month or more.

Twitter sues the FBI and the Justice Department
The company wants to be able to release more information about government surveillance of its users. Twitter, based in San Francisco, filed the lawsuit in a California federal court. It contends it has the right to publish more detailed information about the scope and frequency of government information requests. In January, Justice negotiated a compromise with Google, Facebook, Yahoo and LinkedIn. That agreement lets the companies reveal how often the government requests information on users.
