Farmers Talk Balancing Agriculture And Environmentalism

KENNEDYVILLE — No-till, aerial spraying, GMOs, growth hormones — those were some of the agricultural buzzwords thrown around at a panel discussion hosted by the Sassafras River Association Thursday, Aug. 21.

Joining Sassafras Riverkeeper Emmett Duke at Shrewsbury Parish Church near Kennedyville were farmers Trey Hill, Judy Gifford, Alan Davis and Sean Jones. Raymond Forney, of DuPont Crop Protection; Wayne Gilchrest, director of the Sassafras Environmental Education Center; and Josh Thompson, the SRA’s agricultural outreach coordinator, also participated in the discussion.

Cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries continues to be a challenge. Discussions of how best to reduce the runoff of nitrogen, phosphorus and sediment into the Bay often involve additional regulations on farmers.

Many Colonoscopies Are Unneeded

Doctors may be performing too many repeat colonoscopies on people who've had pre-cancerous polyps removed during an earlier colon cancer screening, a new Norwegian study suggests.

Many of these patients have no greater risk of dying from colon cancer than the general public, the researchers determined.

People who have a single low-risk polyp removed have a much lower risk of colon cancer, compared to both the general public and patients who have multiple polyps or aggressive polyps removed, said lead author Dr. Magnus Loberg, a lecturer in health management and health economics at the University of Oslo.

These low-risk patients likely don't need the aggressive follow-up called for under current guidelines, Loberg said.

"These findings support more intense surveillance of the high-risk group, but should maybe lead to reconsideration of the guidelines regarding the low-risk group," he said.

DEER VALLEY, Va. — Officials say the missing Massachusetts Air National Guard pilot whose F-15C Eagle crashed Wednesday morning in remote mountains near Deerfield Valley, Virginia died in the crash.

The pilot’s name is being withheld pending notification of family members.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and we are doing all we can to support them during this very difficult time,” Col. James Keefe, Commander, 104th Fighter Wing said. “We ask that everyone respect the privacy of the family and allow them the time they need to grieve.”

The jet assigned to the 104th Fighter Wing crashed at about 9:05 a.m. Wednesday; five minutes after crews lost radio contact with the pilot. The pilot did report an in-flight emergency prior to losing communication. The military has not yet released details of that communication.

IRS ethics lawyer facing possible disbarment, accused of lying

A lawyer in the IRS ethics office is facing the possibility of being disbarred, according to records that accuse her of lying to a court-appointed board and hiding what she’d done with money from a settlement that was supposed to go to two medical providers who had treated her client.

The disciplinary arm of the D.C. Court of Appeals has recommended that Takisha McGee, a section manager in the IRS Office of Professional Responsibility, lose her law license over the charge, which stems from a personal injury case she worked about a year before she joined the tax agency.

Brown, Maryland Department of Agriculture Secretary Buddy Hance, agricultural and volunteerism leaders, announced record cover crop program enrollment by Maryland farmers, as they applauded the agriculture community for their extraordinary efforts.

Maryland farmers exceeded the Phase I and II Watershed Implementation Plan milestone for cover crops in 2011 and 2013 and are on track to exceed it again next year with this new record enrollment acreage. Cover crops are one of the most cost-effective means of helping to restore the Chesapeake Bay.

“The future of agriculture and our environment is bright. Today’s record cover crop announcement is great news for our farmers who continue to voluntarily take strong conservation actions on their farms, diversify their operations and use new technologies as they become available,” said Governor O’Malley. “Their dedication, along with the commitment of thousands of volunteers around our State, will not only to help us meet our goals to move our State forward; it will help more Maryland farmers sustain their family businesses.”

Parkinson's Breakthrough: Researchers Discover Spice Stops Disease Progression

Americans were shocked and saddened when Robin Williams committed suicide following a long history of depression. Another shock followed; the beloved comic was fighting Parkinson's disease, a devastating condition that causes tremors and problems walking.

There is no cure for Parkinson's, but a common spice — cinnamon — may be able to help stop its progression.

Cinnamon has been used for flavoring everything from toothpaste to herbal teas— including mom's apple pie — and it has been a staple in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries to help improve circulation and digestion. Modern studies are finding even more uses for the versatile spice, including putting the brakes on Parkinson's disease.

According to studies, cinnamon's healthy effects may be due to its ability to reduce inflammation and to have antioxidant effects, or that it may fight bacteria. Below are studies that show some of the conditions cinnamon can help combat:

• Parkinson's disease. A study at Rush Medical Center suggests that cinnamon can reverse changes in the brain seen in Parkinson's patients. Researchers found that when cinnamon was consumed, it was metabolized into sodium benzoate, which reversed biochemical, cellular, and anatomical changes in the brain. Mice that were fed the spice showed better brain function and motor skills, which are often affected in Parkinson's patients. "This could potentially be one of the safest approaches to halt disease progression in Parkinson's patients," said Floyd A. Davis, professor of neurology at Rush University.

Business School Director Ponders PMT Pros, Cons

SALISBURY, Md. — Four loose leaf binders sat on the desk of Dr. Memo Diriker , director of BEACON, the Business, Economic and Community Outreach Network at the Perdue University School of Business here.

Each of the binders was four inches thick.
They contained an estimated 4,500 sheets of paper or documents which he had received since accepting the enormous challenge of, at least, helping to settle the divisive debate in Maryland over the implementation of what is known as the Phosphorous Management Tool.

Dr. Diriker, along with presumably members of his staff, had taken on the task of deciding the economic impact of the two scenarios offered by the PMT — cut back to the bone on the use of poultry manure as fertilizer on the farm fields primarily of the Lower Eastern Shore, or, in the process, economically ravage farming and farm life on the Lower Shore amd break the region’s agricultural economic backbone.

Two committees — one presenting those who would urge the immediate implementation of the PMT and the other who would argue against it — were appointed to assist Dr. Diriker.

Pat Buchanan: AG Eric Holder Places Race Above All

Attorney General Eric Holder's entrance into the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, proves he places race above all in his job and on par with Al Sharpton, conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says.

"He's someone who puts the issue of race front and center always, and I don't think that's the mindset you want in an attorney general, especially in a case which obviously has a deep racial component to it," Buchanan said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Holder's police-shooting hypocrisy

There are no Ferguson-style probes when black police shoot blacks

Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. is enjoying a tidal wave of laudatory press coverage for his activism on the Ferguson, Mo., shooting and subsequent protests. In the 1990s, though, Mr. Holder ignored plenty of cases of District of Columbia black cops killing unarmed black civilians — even when policemen lied about the shootings.

Mr. Holder was appointed in 1993 by President Clinton as U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia. At that time, D.C. police were killing more civilians than any other large city police force, based on population. The number of killings by D.C. police quadrupled between 1989 and 1995, when 16 civilians died as a result of police gunfire.

Mr. Holder never noticed that the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department failed to count almost half the people killed by their officers between 1994 and 1997. Mr. Holder commented in 1998: “I’m not really sure I discerned any patterns [in police shootings] — at least none I remember.” A 1998 Pulitzer-prize-winning Washington Post investigation concluded: “The rise in police shootings in the mid-1990s went largely unnoticed among the top officials charged with policing the police.”

Poll: Romney breaks away in Iowa

According to a USA Today/Suffolk University poll released Wednesday, 35 percent of likely GOP caucus voters would vote for the 2012 GOP nominee in 2016. When Romney’s name was added to the pool, no other candidate received double-digit votes.

The survey comes as rumors have begun to swirl about a potential Romney bid for president in 2016. After months of insisting that he will not run again, the former Massachusetts governor on Tuesday acknowledged that “circumstances can change.”

NY Times Declines to Endorse Cuomo in Primary, Cites Corruption

The New York Times declined on Tuesday to endorse Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary next month because he has failed to rid the state government of corruption.

"He failed to perform Job 1," the Times said in an editorial. "The state government remains as subservient to big money as ever, and Mr. Cuomo resisted and even shut down opportunities to fix it.

"Because he broke his most important promise, we have decided not to make an endorsement for the Democratic primary on Sept. 9."

Cuomo, 56, who is seeking his second term, is facing Fordham Law School professor Zephyr Teachout, a national expert on political corruption. The winner will most likely square off against Republican Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, whose primary is on the same day.

The Times also would not endorse Teachout because she "has not shown the breadth of interests and experience needed to govern a big and diverse state."

Warren Buffett Betrays America

It must have been a bitter moment for President Barack Obama when he got the news that his favorite economic guru not only doesn’t like paying taxes but hates America.

Warren Buffett, whose eponymous rule was a staple of Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign, is underwriting Burger King’s proposed move to Canada that the left is denouncing as practically the most dastardly plot since the Rosenbergs helped the Soviets get the atomic bomb.

Burger King is acquiring the Canadian coffee and doughnuts chain Tim Hortons in what is called a “corporate inversion.” At least that’s the technical term for it. Obama and the left prefer to call it by names usually reserved for spies and AWOL soldiers before they get a last cigarette and a blindfold.

Maryland, Virginia Suburbs Receive Surge Of Border Kids From Central America

Fairfax, Prince George’s and Montgomery counties have taken in more children from the recent border surge than all but five other cities and counties across the nation, largely due to their sizeable populations of Central American immigrants. Most arriving children are placed with relatives or other guardians while awaiting deportation hearings.

According to the agency, only Los Angeles, Miami, one border county in Texas and two counties near New York City have received more such children in the past seven months. Fairfax has recieved 1,023 children, Prince George’s has received 960 and Montgomery has received 816. The District has received about 200.

Ben Carson on Struggles of Black Community: 'It's Not a Racial Thing, It's a Social Thing'

On Tuesday’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” former Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon Ben Carson discussed his debate with Jesse Jackson that had occurred over on last weekend’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday.”

Host Bill O’Reilly suggested Carson had been “generous” in his debate with Jackson. However, although Carson argued that it was important to recognize the contributions of civil rights leaders, the challenges facing the black community today are different than they were during the civil rights era.

“[T]he fact of the matter is that he and a number of other people of all races put a lot on the line,” Carson said of Jackson. “They risked a lot. But you know, that was a long time ago I do appreciate all there’s that people make. People were thrown in jail. People were killed. Lots of problems. I think perhaps we wouldn't be where we are today if people hadn't done that. However, we have a very different problem today. The problem today is a social problem. It’s not so much a racial problem.”

'Cops' Crew Member Killed In Omaha Police Shooting

Police officers who opened fire while disrupting a robbery at a fast-food restaurant in Omaha killed a crew member with the TV show "Cops" as well as the suspect, who was armed with a pellet gun that they thought was a real handgun, authorities said Wednesday.

The suspect fired from the pellet gun before officers returned fire, Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said at a news conference. He said witnesses and officers thought the robbery suspect's Airsoft handgun looked and sounded real, but discovered later that it fires only plastic pellets.

The suspect, whom police identified as 32-year-old Cortez Washington, was struck by the officers' gunfire, but fled outside of the restaurant before collapsing. Officers continued firing on the suspect as he exited the restaurant, and that was when the "Cops" crew member, 38-year-old Bryce Dion, was also struck, said Schamaderer.

NYT's Maureen Dowd: Obama Is Outsourcing the Race Issue

President Barack Obama has farmed out part of his presidency during his past six years in office – and now’s he’s outsourcing the race issue, says New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd.

In an op-ed piece headlined "He Has a Dream," Dowd said that instead of handling the crisis in Ferguson, Missouri, he turned over the problem to Attorney General Eric Holder and the Rev. Al Sharpton.

"As he has grown weary of Washington, Barack Obama has shed parts of his presidency, like drying petals falling off a rose," Dowd wrote.

"He left the explaining and selling of his signature healthcare legislation to Bill Clinton. He outsourced Congress to Rahm Emanuel in the first term, and now doesn’t bother to source it at all. He left schmoozing, as well as a spiraling Iraq, to Joe Biden.

"But the one thing it was impossible to imagine, back in the giddy days of the 2009 inauguration, as Americans basked in their open-mindedness and pluralism, was that the first African-American president would outsource race."

STATE POLICE LABOR DAY WEEKEND ENFORCEMENT GETS UNDERWAY

(PIKESVILLE, MD) – As traffic increases during the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend, Maryland State Troopers will be conducting multiple traffic enforcement initiatives statewide to focus on crash reduction.

State Police will be conducting Operations SHOWBOAT (SHOre-Wide Bullseye On Aggressive Traffic) and Millipede throughout Labor Day weekend. Both operations will target aggressive driving and impaired driving. Motorists will notice an increase in state police presence throughout the state as dozens of additional troopers take to Maryland’s highways conducting strict traffic enforcement.

Operation SHOWBOAT will concentrate its efforts on U.S. Route 50 from Anne Arundel County to Ocean City and U.S. Route 13 in Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester Counties. Operation Millipede will focus its efforts on I-95 from the Delaware Line to the Virginia Line. Additional DUI checkpoints, saturation patrols and speed enforcement will be conducted throughout the state.

“As we continue to focus on the reduction of fatalities and serious injuries due to motor vehicle crashes statewide, troopers will take action by locating and arresting impaired drivers as we work to keep Maryland roads safe during the holiday weekend”, said Colonel Marcus L. Brown, Superintendent of the Maryland State Police. “Police in Maryland are committed to removing drunk drivers from our roads to meet the goal of zero deaths in Maryland."

Last year during the Labor Day holiday period of August 30th through September 3, 2013, there were three alcohol related crashes which killed three people. During that same time period, state troopers arrested 130 drunk drivers. Also during the 2013 holiday weekend, troopers made 9500 traffic stops, issued over 6700 citations, and made 226 criminal arrests.

Motorists planning to drink alcoholic beverages are reminded to choose a designated driver or make other arrangements before they start drinking. This can include hiring a cab or staying in walking distance from the party location.

To receive up-to-the-minute transportation news and information, motorists can call 5-1-1 for the latest traffic related news, such as crash related traffic jams, lane closing roadwork and weather related delays.

Left Running Out of People to Tax

Margaret Thatcher once quipped that the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money. For the past several decades, American politics largely has been based on giving things to a great many people, paid by other, usually far fewer, people. That scheme can only last so long. The building media and political firestorms over "tax inversions" is the latest sign that a giant tax hangover is coming to spoil the left's party.

Tax inversions, whereby a US company acquires a foreign firm and, in the process, shifts its headquarters out of the US and becomes a foreign company, have been increasing over the past 18 months. The maneuver has primarily involved relatively little-known health care and biotech companies. The announced plan by iconic US restaurant Burger King to employ this tactic in its acquisition of iconic Canadian donut chain Tim Hortons has captured the public's attention in a way the previous deals hadn't. That the deal involves hamburgers and donuts surely has something to do with this.

FBI Ordered Police Department to Conceal Stingray Use

Police tell City Council device used to detect "IEDs"

Documents uncovered through a public records request reveal that a Wash. state police department has concealed its use of a Stringray cellphone surveillance device for the last 6 years.

The documents, uncovered by Phil Mocek of the Seattle Privacy Coalition and Center for Open Policing, detail the Tacoma Police Department’s 2008 purchase order. Partially funded by a DHS “port security” grant, the documents also included several invoices and contracts as well.

The device, which extracts countless cellphone user’s data by mimicking a cell tower, has caused alarm among civil liberties advocates in recent years.

“Warrantless surveillance presents great risk to our freedom,” Mocek told Infowars. “These devices are often used to spy on innocent people’s words, locations and associations.”

NYPD Warns NYC Too Dangerous for Democratic Convention

A Democrat in City Hall has managed to turn back the clock on 20 years of crime reductions by championing criminals and waging war on the police. Elect a Dinkins errand boy and you get the second term of David Dinkins.

His fellow Democrats should benefit from the crime wave has brought back to New York.

The head of the NYPD’s sergeants union on Tuesday urged Democrats to choose anywhere but New York City as the site of their 2016 convention, citing surging crime and a lack of support for cops by Mayor de Blasio.

Full-page newspaper ads in The Post and elsewhere said the Sergeants Benevolent Association “cannot now in good conscience” join de Blasio in lobbying the Democratic National Committee to hold its political powwow at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The open letter signed by SBA President Ed Mullins said that “while the Barclays Center is still new and glistening, the great city in which it stands is lurching back to the bad old days of high crime.”

Citing official statistics and news reported exclusively by The Post, Mullins noted that shootings are up, “squeegee people are reappearing on the streets, and aggressive panhandlers and con men are populating the subways and Times Square.

“The DNC should chose another venue,” Mullins said.

In clear shot at the Rev. Al Sharpton — who led an anti-cop rally on Staten Island this past Saturday — Mullins also accused de Blasio of throwing city cops “under the bus” to pander to “the loudest of the city’s anti-safety agitators.”

“Morale among police officers is low, and there are few signs that it will get better any time soon,” Mullins wrote.

Brooke Mulford Cuts the Ribbon on ‘Brooke’s Toy Closet’ at Peninsula Regional

Brooke Mulford was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an aggressive form of cancer, in 2009, when she was just four years old. Since then, she has endured many hospitalizations and treatments ─ and she has also received thousands of well-wishes, thrown out the first pitch at a Red Sox game, met celebrities and dazzled everyone she meets with her positive attitude and smile.

No one understands what it’s like being a kid in the hospital better than Brooke. That’s why she and her friends at Salisbury Christian School decided that helping other children in the hospital would be a great idea.

On August 26, 2014, Brooke and her classmates came to Peninsula Regional Medical Center to unveil “Brooke’s Toy Closet,” a special cabinet filled with toys, coloring books and other goodies that PRMC’s Emergency Department and Pediatrics Unit can give to children who are hospitalized. The recipients of these gifts will be able to use them when they’re in the hospital, and take them home to enjoy when they are feeling better.

Democrats Defensive, Furious Over Obama Vacation Debacle

Democrats close to the Obama White House are frustrated and furious over the public relations fallout over President Barack Obama's now-infamous two-week luxury vacation to Martha's Vineyard amid myriad crises, including looting and rioting in Ferguson, Missouri, as well as the beheading of an American journalist by ISIS terrorists.

Some Obama backers are defensive.

"It's bullshit," one former senior Obama official told The Hill. "This is a guy who reads 10 letters a day simply to keep in touch with the American people. He spends all his time thinking about the economy and improving lives of the American people. He's constantly in touch."

Other Democrats expressed frustration over Obama's apparent aloofness.

"It just doesn't seem like he can move the ball forward, and sometimes it seems like he doesn't want to," said another Democrat close to the White House. "He just doesn't seem like he's delivering on much of the stuff he campaigned on, and that includes bringing both sides together."

Pat Buchanan: Holder Acts More Like Al Sharpton Than an Attorney General

Tuesday on Newsmax TV's "The Steve Malzberg Show," bestselling author and conservative commentator Pat Buchanan said Attorney General Eric Holder acted more like the so-called civil rights leader Al Sharpton than the top law enforcement official in the land and tainted the jury pool by going to Ferguson MO to talk to community leaders about the Michael Brown shooting case.

Buchanan said of Holder's action, "To go out there and take sides, I find appalling."

"He is someone who puts the issue of race front and center always and I don't think that is not the mindset you want someone you want as Attorney General especially in a case which obviously has a deep racial component to it," he added.

Riiight… And this is the man we call our president?

Last week, the non-partisan watchdog group, the Government Accountability Office (GAO), said that Obama did indeed break the law in exchanging Bergdahl for the five Taliban terrorists. The Obama regime responded to these findings stating and, despite admitting previously that this exchange broke the law, has changed the tune to their story.

“It’s not going to surprise you to know that we strongly disagree with GAO’s conclusion and we reject the implication that the administration acted unlawfully. The president has the constitutional responsibility to protect the lives of Americans abroad and specifically to protect U.S. service members. It’s important for everyone here to understand that the GAO report expressly does not address the lawfulness of the administration’s actions as a matter of constitutional law.”

He went further and claimed that he is deeply committed to never leaving anyone behind, especially those who serve overseas.

“The president was very clear that our commitment to men and women serving oversees — to leave none of them behind — is a bedrock principle for him. One that doesn’t come with caveats.”

Congressman: Md. Health Exchange Under Review For Possible Fraud

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) — A Maryland Congressman says subpoenas are being issued in a federal investigation into Maryland’s health exchange. He believes there was fraud in the system that cost taxpayers millions but didn’t work right at the start.

Mike Hellgren has more on these subpoenas.

Congressman Andy Harris says there appears to be evidence of fraud. He is Maryland’s only Republican in Congress and has fought Obamacare. But this investigation—if it’s happening—is being conducted by what is supposed to be a non-political government agency.

Maryland’s health exchange—the connection to Obamacare here—never worked as easily as the ads promised at launch. It crashed and was filled with technical problems.

Obama Crafts Legal Rationale for Immigration Steps

The White House is crafting a blame-it-on-Congress legal justification to back up President Barack Obama's impending executive actions on immigration.

Facing an expect onslaught of opposition, the administration plans to argue that Congress failed to provide enough resources to fully enforce U.S. laws, thereby ceding wide latitude to White House to prioritize deportations of the 11.5 million people who are in the country illegally, administration officials and legal experts said. But Republicans, too, are exploring their legal options for stopping Obama from what they've deemed egregious presidential overreaching.

A self-imposed, end-of-summer deadline to act on immigration is rapidly approaching. While Obama has yet to receive the formal recommendations he's requested from Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, administration officials said the president is intimately familiar with the universe of options and won't spend much time deliberating once Johnson delivers his recommendations.

Hogan Campaign Reports $2.4 Million Cash On Hand, More Than Three Times Brown Campaign

ANNAPOLIS, MD – The latest finance reports from the Hogan and Brown campaigns for governor show the most competitive race in a generation, with Republican Larry Hogan having $2.4 million cash on hand, handily competing financially with the sitting LG, Anthony Brown, who reported $764,000 cash on hand. Hogan has a commanding cash on hand advantage going in to the final 70 days of the campaign.

Larry Hogan said, "The latest news from the campaign trail has been extremely encouraging. We are working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to change Maryland. The latest finance and polling numbers confirm what we hear on the road every single day: Marylanders demand change and they are going to step up and fight back against the policies that have crushed our state over the last eight years.”

The latest cash on hand numbers come on the heels of recent polling data that show Larry Hogan closer than any Republican in recent history to winning the governor's seat. Earlier this week, the Maryland Republican Party released findings from their latest poll that showed Hogan just three points down from Brown, a statistical tie. Both campaigns began airing general election commercials this week; the Brown campaign reacted to the Hogan campaign's recent successes with a false and misleading attack ad, which sharply contrasted Hogan's overwhelmingly positive one.

U.S. official says 1,000 Russian troops enter Ukraine

Kiev, Ukraine (CNN) -- A top Ukrainian army officer said a "full-scale invasion" of his country was under way Thursday, as a U.S. official said up to 1,000 Russian troops had crossed Ukraine's southern border to fight alongside pro-Russian rebels.

U.S. officials said Russian troops were directly involved in the latest fighting, despite Moscow's denials.

Rebels backed by Russian tanks and armored personnel carriers fought Ukrainian forces on two fronts Thursday: southeast of rebel-held Donetsk, and along the nation's southern coast in the town of Novoazovsk, about 12 miles (20 km) from the Russian border, according to Mykhailo Lysenko, the deputy commander of the Ukrainian Donbas battalion.

"This is a full-scale invasion," Lysenko said, referring to the fighting in the south.

Snyder: Skins Have 'Started The Process' Of Designing New Stadium

Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder says that the team has "started the process" of designing a new stadium.

In an interview with Comcast SportsNet, Snyder would not give a timeline for a new stadium to open, nor whether it would be in Maryland, Virginia or the District. But he said he hoped a new stadium would open "sooner rather than later."

Snyder called the team's current home, FedEx Field, "a great place to feature our home games, but it's 17 years old now. I think it's time for us to start looking and we're doing it."

‘Revenue Generating’ Traffic Cameras Forcing Governments To Refund Millions Of Dollars

Two stories show the incredible number of tickets a set of cameras can rack up in a short period

Technology saves time and labor, but is as ultimately fallible as the humans it displaces. Thanks to the efficiencies of technology, mistakes can now be made faster than ever. Municipalities which have turned over traffic enforcement to cameras probably hoped to generate funds much faster than it could with an un-augmented police force. Instead, they’re finding themselves issuing refunds, deactivating faulty cameras, fighting with contractors and investigating corruption. Not much of a payoff.

Two more stories have appeared (nearly simultaneously) showing the incredible number of tickets a set of cameras can rack up in a short period… and the amount of funds generated that no one will ever be able to claim.

The first comes from Nassau County, New York, where overenthusiastic speed cameras enforced school zone speed limits while school wasn’t even in session.

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano has dismissed $2.4 million in speed camera tickets issued over the past month, amid outrage from residents who received thousands of tickets from cameras at six school locations.

Mangano said cameras at five locations malfunctioned, spitting out tickets on days when school was not in session. Cameras at a sixth location — in Elmont — went operational prematurely.

Candidate Kirby Travers DISQUALIFIED

The Democrat Central Committee and Party are really playing games in Wicomico County.

It is WELL KNOWN that IF you work for the County, YOU CANNOT SERVE ON THE COUNTY COUNCIL.

Yet Kirby Travers is running for a seat on the Council, knowing he is disqualified unless he quits his job with the County/State Fire Marshal's Office and that is NOT going to happen.

Not that he has any chance to win, let's just say the election is rigged and he does win. He will immediately be disqualified and the Central Committee with then appoint someone to fill that position.

And who would be first on that list?
That's right, Mike Pretl. He lives in that district. Be very careful who you cast your vote for in November because the Democrats are all smoke and mirrors.

FROM THE CHARTER:

Section 202 Qualifications.

C. Other offices. No person shall hold office as a member of the county council while he holds any other office or employment for profit of or under the state or county.

Facts about Mold and Dampness

There is always some mold everywhere - in the air and on many surfaces. Molds have been on the Earth for millions of years. Mold grows where there is moisture.
Mold and Your Health

Exposure to damp and moldy environments may cause a variety of health effects, or none at all. Some people are sensitive to molds. For these people, molds can cause nasal stuffiness, throat irritation, coughing or wheezing, eye irritation, or, in some cases, skin irritation. People with mold allergies may have more severe reactions. Immune-compromised people and people with chronic lung illnesses, such as obstructive lung disease, may get serious infections in their lungs when they are exposed to mold. These people should stay away from areas that are likely to have mold, such as compost piles, cut grass, and wooded areas.

In 2004 the Institute of Medicine (IOM) found there was sufficient evidence to link indoor exposure to mold with upper respiratory tract symptoms, cough, and wheeze in otherwise healthy people; with asthma symptoms in people with asthma; and with hypersensitivity pneumonitis in individuals susceptible to that immune-mediated condition. The IOM also found limited or suggestive evidence linking indoor mold exposure and respiratory illness in otherwise healthy children.

JUST GOTTA VENT

Does anyone remember Detective Melvin Santiago? He was a Jersey City police officer who was shot to death just a month ago, on July 13th. Santiago was white. His killer, Lawrence Campbell, was black. Does anyone recall Obama appearing before national television and calling for justice for Officer Santiago’s family? Does anyone recall Eric Holder rushing to Jersey City to see that justice was done?

How about Officer Jeffrey Westerfield. He was a Gary, Indiana police officer who was shot to death last month on July 6th. Westerfield was white. His killer, Carl LeEllis Blount, Jr. was black. Where was Obama? Where was Holder?

Or Officer Perry Renn? He was an Indianapolis, Indiana police officer who was shot to death just last month on July 5th, the day before Officer Westerfield was killed. Officer Renn was white. His killer, Major Davis, was black. I don't recall any mention by Obama about the untimely death of Officer Renn. And, I doubt that Eric Holder rushed to Indianapolis to make sure justice was done. Or, maybe I just missed it.

Vermillion Parish Deputy Sheriff Allen Bares was gunned down by two men just last June 23rd in Louisiana. Deputy Bares was white. His two killers, Quintlan Richard and Baylon Taylor, were black. Was Obama outraged? Did Eric Holder rush to Louisiana to make sure that the family of Deputy Bares found justice?

Right here , Detective Charles Dinwiddie of the Killeen Police Department was murdered by Marvin Lewis Guy, a black male. Officer Dinwiddie was white. This happened on May 11th, just over two months ago. I don’t even recall seeing anything about that on the news. Certainly, the white citizens in Killeen didn't take to the streets to loot and burn businesses. Again, I don't recall any mention by Obama or Holder.

Then, there is Officer Kevin Jordan of the Griffin, Georgia Police Department. He was gunned down just two months ago on May 31st. Officer Jordan was black. His killer, Michael Bowman, was white. This was a white man murdering a black police officer. Where was Jesse Jackson? Where was "The Reverend" Al Sharpton? Was there looting and burning on the streets of Griffin, Georgia? No. In fact, I don't recall hearing about this one in the news, as well. Why? You can draw your own conclusions.

Over the past 60 days, there have been five reported deaths of police officers by gunshot in the US. Of those, four were white officers who were murdered by black men. Blacks complain that white officers threat black men more aggressively on the street. You can draw your own conclusions on that one, as well.

GREAT FUNDRAISER / PIG ROAST THIS SUNDAY FOR BOB CULVER

We're told Larry Hogan and David Craig will be there as well.

A Letter To The Editor: Fruitland Election Update

Joe,

As you may know the Fruitland City elections are coming up. The deadline to file is September 1 at 430 pm. I just found out that the woman in charge of the election board decided this morning to move the deadline to tomorrow at 430 pm. So now anyone that was going to run and turn there papers in will miss the deadline. I don't even know if she can do this but it's a bunch of crap. She said she did it because of Monday being a holiday. She should have extended it to Tuesday.
