Resurrection

It was Sunday morning, and the priest had already preached to the adults in the congregation.

Now he was presenting a children's sermon. He asked the children if they knew what the Resurrection was.
Now, asking questions during children's sermons is crucial, but at the same time, asking children questions in front of a congregation can also be very dangerous.

In response to the question, a little boy raised his hand.
The priest called on him and the boy said, "I know that if you have a resurrection that lasts more than four hours you are supposed to call the doctor."

It took ten minutes for the congregation to settle down enough for the service to continue.

The Week In Review

The posts below with today's date were the most popular posts last week.

House Has Three Hour Debate Over Bathrooms, Then Approves Transgender Bill

A measure to prevent discrimination against people who are transgender has cleared the Maryland General Assembly.

The governor released a statement promising to sign the bill.

"I’d like to congratulate and thank Senator Rich Madaleno, Delegate Luke Clippinger, Equality Maryland and the Human Rights Campaign on yet another victory for inclusion and openness in our State. We’re proud to stand with these leaders, the LGBT community, and other allies to complete this major piece of unfinished business -- ensuring that everyone is protected from discrimination under the law. I look forward to signing this bill,” the statement read.

The bill aims to stop discrimination on matters relating to housing, employment, credit and use of public accommodations.

Wicomico County To Become Dumping Ground For East Coast Trash

Put your seat belts on again Ladies & Gentlemen because I'm about to introduce you to information you did not know but need to know.

Right now there's a Bill in Annapolis sponsored by Norm Conway called HB-1506 North East Waste Disposal Authority. I know, so what, right?

Here's your SO WHAT.

The Bill would subject Wicomico County into an annual contract with the state in which Wicomico County Taxpayers will have to pony up $100,000.00 A YEAR just to JOIN this organization to IMPORT trash from other states to our Landfill.

WHY? Because Rick Pollitt has already sent out for RFP's to companies interested in building a $70,000,000.00 Plant to incinerate trash in Wicomico County. The County does NOT bring in enough trash to make this system pay for itself, so the Executive is cutting a deal with Conway and the State to join this organization to import trash.

One thing comes to mind besides the fact that this is complete BS. What happens if Sussex County Delaware decides they want to get into the trash business, or any other surrounding Maryland County.

So why is this so QUIET? Why haven't you heard about this from the rest of the Main Stream media, because it's an election year.

Worcester County Landfill was running in the black. They raised their tipping fees and Ocean City started exporting their trash to New Jersey. Now the Worcester Landfill is running in the RED and taxpayers will have to subsidize the difference.

In Harrisburg PA. they are on the verge of bankruptcy because they experimented with a Waste Energy Plant that is failing miserably.

Rick Pollitt and Norm Conway have their proposed plant on the fast track and need to be slowed down immediately. The system they are suggesting is as unproven as Salisbury's original Waste Water Treatment Plant, HOW SCARY IS THAT!

Your votes AGAIN need to go to Bob Culver and Carl Anderton to STOP such frivolous Bills.

Did Sheriff Lewis Throw Maryland State Trooper, (Brother) Anthony Myers Under The Bus?

In an interview yesterday on WBOC, Sheriff Lewis appeared serious and frustrated when discussing the shooting in Salisbury two days ago.

He stated, this should have never happened. We need more Police training so that this never happens again.

Many have commented about how they recall then State Trooper Mike Lewis shot and killed a man several years ago on the Bypass for attempting to run him over after a traffic stop. It should be clearly noted, Mike was cleared of this incident by Davis Ruark.

I personally believe people should never forget where they came from. It's statements like the one above that is crushing the OLD version of "Brotherhood". Welcome to 2014 and the future of leadership.

Salisbury News Has Been Saying For Months, Famous Dave's Will Close Their Doors

We've been hearing for months from Employees, Famous Dave's will be closing their doors. Well, today, or should I say, early this morning the trucks were lined up for a quiet departure. Another weekend warrior project.

The Greene Turtle will be leaving their current location in North Salisbury and relocating to this space. Kinda hard to hide Fire vehicles behind this building.

So tell me, Ladies & Gentlemen. How many more businesses have to close their doors before you finally realize the leaders, (elected officials) in Salisbury and Wicomico County are clueless to the downfall of the Eastern Shore?

Here they are volunteering Rain Tax money and pay raises in the most difficult times in the HISTORY of America. Businesses are closing their doors, Lease and For Sale signs are just about everywhere you look. There is NO Master Plan. In fact, do tell me what Jim Ireton and Rick Pollitt have told you that EXCITES Wicomico County citizens.

I'll tell you what doesn't excite me. Pictures like this and the Jobs Report we put out monthly where we're averaging more than 1,200 jobs losses per month. Yeah, people are moving to Wicomico County and the County is actually growing, population wise. Who has the most affordable housing projects in the entire state, SALISBURY. I wonder why they're moving here. It isn't the JOBS.

Update On Last Nights Shooting In Salisbury

A Sgt. of the MSP went out to inspect a vehicle with an equipment failure that had allegedly been repaired.

As he approached the vehicle he could clearly smell the aroma of pot emitting from the vehicle.

He casually called another Officer who had just left the barracks and asked him to return. The suspect realized he was in trouble and got in the car and started the engine.

The Sgt. immediately reached into the vehicle to turn off the engine and the suspect started backing up. We're told the Sgt. hot his hand stuck in the steering wheel. He demanded the suspect stop the vehicle and he refused.

The Sgt. then reached for his weapon as he was being dragged by the vehicle and he shot off one round. The other MSP Officer pulled into the barracks and started shooting off rounds that apparently hit the door but did not penetrate the door.

I'm told the one initial shot the Sgt. got off was the bullet that struck the suspect and he eventually bled out, so we're told.

Mind you, this is what we have been told by a reliable source and has NOT been confirmed. We are still awaiting an official press release from the MSP.

THIS JUST IN:

SUSPECT FATALLY WOUNDED BY TROOPER IN WICOMICO CO.

(SALISBURY, MD)
– Maryland State Police continue their investigation into a trooper involved shooting which fatally wounded a man who struck and dragged a trooper with his car to avoid further police investigation last night, at the Salisbury Barrack.

The deceased is identified as Winfield C. Fisher, 32, of the 6100 block of Westbrooke Drive, Salisbury, Md. Fisher was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center by emergency medical personnel from the Wicomico County Fire Department. He was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the hospital. The deceased will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The preliminary information indicates Fisher entered the Salisbury Barrack around 8:30 p.m. on March 18, 2014 and asked the duty officer to check a vehicle repair made after receiving a safety equipment repair order. The duty officer went outside to the parking spaces in front of the barrack with the Fisher.

Moments later, the duty officer came back inside and requested the dispatcher to call for back up. As he returned to the vehicle, the dispatcher immediately contacted another trooper who had just left the barrack. That trooper returned to assist.

Details are preliminary but it is believed both troopers fired their Department issued pistols. The duty officer was found lying along the edge of the parking lot near the entrance to Rt. 13. He had sustained injuries consistent with being struck and/or dragged by a vehicle.

Fisher was found in his vehicle about 150 yards north of the barrack on Rt. 13. His vehicle had struck the center median guardrail on the northbound side of Rt. 13.

EMS personnel responded and transported the suspect and the duty officer to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Fisher was pronounced dead at the hospital. The duty officer has been treated and released.

Maryland State Police investigators obtained a search warrant for the vehicle. State Police crime scene technicians processed the vehicle and the barrack parking lot for evidence. Marijuana was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle.

Investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit responded and are conducting the investigation, which is procedure in police involved shootings. They will be reviewing evidence developed in this investigation. Investigators will also present the Wicomico State’s Attorney’s Office with their completed investigation for review, which is also procedure in police involved shootings.

Corporal Anthony Meyers is a nine-year veteran of the Maryland State Police. Trooper Jeffrey Wilkins is a three year veteran of the Maryland State Police. Both have been placed on routine administrative leave, which is procedure in police involved shootings. The State Police Internal Affairs Unit will also be conducting an investigation.

BREAKING NEWS: I Am Not A "Yes Man"

Here we go again. Another FEMALE Department Head is leaving the City of Salisbury under a homosexual Mayor who clearly dislikes women.

Who will be our next Police Chief, Chuck Cook? Antwan Mayweather?

Effective June 30th, Chief Barbara Duncan will be leaving the Salisbury Police Department. I am very sorry to make this announcement Ladies & Gentlemen as I personally feel she has been the best thing Salisbury has seen in decades.

Think of what she could have accomplished if the control freak Mayor would have stepped away and let her do her job.

The Director of Finance, Public Works Director, Jessie & Gina, his executive assistants, Lore' Chambers and now Chief Duncan. There could be several more that are no longer working for the City but this is what comes to the top of my head at the moment.

Best Wishes Barbara and Thank You.

I Strongly Encourage You To NOT Use Self Checkout At WalMart

I had to run to the store on Saturday to pick up a few items from WalMart.

I only had a couple of items and stood in a long line to check out. The woman behind me said, Sir, it might be easier for you to use the Self Checkout. Other people in line heard what she said and I replied, let me explain why I REFUSE to use Self Checkout.

I said, see all these people working here, they do NOT get paid enough! WalMart is the richest company in the retail world and they refuse to pay their employees proper wages.

EVERY TIME you use the Self Checkout you are ELIMINATING JOBS!

Today you see a small portion of Self Checkout. Pretty soon, once you get used to it and spoiled with it, it will expand until ALL Cashiers are GONE.

NOT ONE person in line disagreed. In fact, NONE of them had ever thought about that and ALL vowed to stay out of Self Checkout for good.

Tens of thousands of people in our area are reading this article today. Let's see how many people give a damn about our local economy. Let's see how many people continue to use Self Checkout. I strongly encourage YOU to pass on this message to each and every person you know or are in contact with.

Wicomico County Council Changes Their Vote To Approve Salary Increases for Orphan Court Judges and Sheriff

Bob Culver stated all involved are great people but we've already voted this down once and disagrees that this is being brought up again.

Sharee Sample Houghes agrees with bringing it back up.

Joe Holloway disagrees. There's nothing new. Is there any justification that the economy improved? Everybody voted against it before because of the economy.

John Hall says a number of people contacted him. He expressed they should get an increase.

Culver said these people are elected because they WANT to do this job. Not for personal gain.

Prettyman said the County Executive already sent a letter of support and she feels they should support it as well.

9,800 more jobs lost in Maryland. The recession is not over, said Joe Holloway.

Stevie said she had people call her telling her they made a mistake. Joe has received calls supporting the Council's decision. Joe was trying to point out that ANY other time in the past that ANYTHING was brought back up for a re-vote there was reasons for it. In this case there is NO new information.

They have voted to SUPPORT the Orphan Court raise. Including Matt Holloway. Joe Holloway and Bob Culver voted NAY.

Sheriff's Raise

Stevie said "Serve and Protect is not just words". A raise was turned down in 2010 to raise his salary. Not having a raise in 12 years is "unthinkable".

Culver said Lewis has done a great job. However, our County Executive doesn't get anywhere near the salary other Executives get throughout the state. We don't need to have any more $3.5 million shortfall any more. We're not in the position to give this raise at this time.

Matt Holloway supports the raise as does John Hall. Hall admitted Sheriff Lewis is traveling the country doing seminars. John doesn't realize Lewis makes a small fortune OUTSIDE his salary doing seminars.

They just approved Mike Lewis' salary. Culver and Joe Holloway were NAYS. The rest of the council votes in support of the raise.

Publishers Notes:

One thing I can ASSURE you of, MORE people voiced their opinions on this very Blog than those who called Council Members stating they support raises for the Sheriff and Judges. I know the County Council follows Salisbury News. I guess the many thousands of people who come here and comment DON'T COUNT.

They can sit there and make stupid excuses like I GOT CALLS but clearly Joe Holloway spelled it out best, WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY. He added NOTHING has changed in the economy, so why would we even reconsider when we have a $3.5 million shortfall right now.

NO ONE will deny these ELECTED officials don't deserve more money, NO ONE. However, ALL of us are experiencing hard times. I can tell you, 6 years ago I could LIVE off the interest of my money, no problem. TODAY, PLEASE! I'm losing money every day in the past 5 years and SO ARE YOU.
These are NOT representatives. They are BS artists who CLAIM people called them to change their mind. It's a load of crap and Joe Holloway said it best, the economy has NOT improved to warrant such increases.

Why would anyone move into Wicomico county?

March 21, 2014 at 5:11 PM

JoeAlbero said...

5:11, Well, if your spouse is in ECI, Salisbury is the cheapest place around to pick up a piece of crap rental unit close enough to your "thug" in Jail.

Then there's the Section 8, Subsidized and Affordable Housing Units all throughout the City. More so than ANYWHERE else in the state.

Open your eyes, Salisbury is filling up with BOTTOM FEEDERS and people like Mayor Jim Ireton can stand in front of these people and be their Ruler without many of them ever thinking of challenging him or his ways.

They won't come to Council Meetings and they won't stand up for their rights as long as their rent is below $300.00 a month, they can achieve food stamps, welfare and an Obama phone.

Salisbury and Wicomico County Maryland is, after all, DA BURY. The New America.

County Executive Snubs Wicomico County Board of Elections - Recommends Leasing Election Facility near 'Red Light District'

Yesterday, the Wicomico County Council heard a County Executive proposal to move the Board of Elections office from the current location on Bateman Street to the former ES Adkins Facility building. However, the proposal snubbed the Wicomico County Board of Elections membership as they generally objected to the location due to safety concerns.

According to the proposed 10 Year Lease Agreement, Wicomico County proposes to initially lease a portion of the building to the County Board of Elections for an annual amount beginning at $5,166 per month and escalating to $6,745 per month.  Over the course of the 10 Year Lease the County will expend $741,048 - and yet it will own NOTHING!  And that is not all, the above price does not include the CAM - (common element assessment) - that is more than another $1,000 per month.  You have to see this to believe it folks - (click here to Read the Lease Agreement)

TRI-COUNTY FACILITY - Spin backwards when the County was entertaining the option to purchase the old Comtek facility.  Remember what the justification was when the County was considering to purchase the mammoth real estate facility - TO CONSOLIDATE PUBLIC FACILITIES UNDER ONE ROOF!

SUMMARY

Wicomico residents are getting hosed once again.  Right in the middle of one of the worse recessions since the depression of 1929 - Wicomico is spending your hard earned taxpayers money like a bunch of drunken sailors.  Between the Administrative pay raises, declining real estate valuesdiminishing income tax returns - ($3.45 million shortfall - emphasis by author) - now Wicomico County wants to 'Nail the Taxpayers - once again'.  Mind you - this facility is located in a blighted neighborhood whereby a portion of the rear is protected by razor wire.

In my assessment - The County Executive's office is plundering the hard working people of Wicomico County by not only squandering your tax dollars, but also inflicting future damage by 'enjoining the Taxpayers' to a Long Term Lease.  Also, I thought that the County Administrative Assistant, Wayne Strausburg was very rude to not only the Wicomico Election Board officials, but also to several of our County Council representatives.

It is long overdue for the Citizens of Wicomico County To RISE UP AND STRIKE BACK - and Vote these abusers out of office.  I can not over emphasize - It is Time for you to TAKE YOUR GOVERNMENT BACK!

Stay Tuned For A Follow Up Article On Another Stevie Prettyman 'FLIP FLOP' - that is also costing Wicomico residents.

Did ANY Wicomico County Council Member Do Their Due Diligence?

The information we are providing below took all of FIVE MINUTES to retain. Now, I ask YOU, look at the POPULATION in each County. Look at the UNEMPLOYMENT. Look at the Sheriff Salaries.

Now, you tell ME, does the Sheriff truly deserve a raise? NONE of the other Sheriffs take time off from their DAILY duties to travel around the Country doing seminars and making a LOT more income OUTSIDE the Sheriffs Department. Stevie Prettyman said, "Protect and Serve". Did she mean part time or full time?

Compare the POPULATIONS in other Counties to Wicomico. NONE of the other Counties have a $3.5+ million dollar shortfall.

It's one thing to LIKE a person. It's another to be fiscally responsible. Mike Lewis can hate me for what I stand for but shame on him for pressing this issue and even more shame on the County Council Members who did NOT do their due diligence and overturn a FORMAL rejection.

I should add. The Wicomico Sheriffs Office had more than $700,000.00 in OVERTIME last year.

BREAKING NEWS: SHOT FIRED AT SALISBURY MSP BARRACK

Salisbury News is learning there may have been one person shot at the MSP Barrack in Salisbury. It's a bit sketchy but they have called for one EMS for a shooting there. They go on to say they are looking for a 95 Oldsmobile. Then we heard the shooting could be an accident. Either way, someone has been shot. We'll keep you updated with details as they come in.

Delmar has just been dispatched to respond to a second person injured in a vehicle crash related to the shooting.

OK, here's what we're hearing now as this is getting crazy. Apparently there was an accident. When Police rolled up a State Trooper started yelling shots fired.  He mentioned a 95 Oldsmobile, got the tag number as it took off.

There are TWO victims. One is at the state police barracks and the other is at Beracah Homes. Rt. 13 is completely shut down right now in both directions. Delmar is at the accident and Salisbury is at the police barracks.

I know. It all sounds crazy but that's how it's coming in. We'll clean it all up later. The important part is, people have been shot and Rt. 13 is closed.

Delmar is calling in for lights and possibly the Dive Team.

UPDATE: Look, there are a LOT of rumors going on already about this shooting. Even we have admitted the information is sketchy. Just know this. Two people have been injured and we will await a press release to give you more accurate details. Rt. 13 is shut down as well. We'll keep you posted as soon as we can.

Eastern Shore Fire/EMS/Police Breaking News Updated information on the incident. Msp was involved and hurt in the accident, not by shots fired. Msp fired shots at the suspect and suspect was hit. At this time this is all the information that is available. As more comes available we will update

Eastern Shore Fire/EMS/Police Breaking News Station 2 Salisbury alerted for Subject shot @ MSP Barrack Command Req Station 74 Delmar for additional victim Barrach Homes. Route 13 Shut Down.ESBN08 #mdtraffic

(SALISBURY, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a trooper involved shooting that fatally wounded a man who may have struck or dragged a trooper with his car while trying to avoid further police investigation at the Salisbury Barrack tonight.

Details are few and are preliminary at this time. Maryland State Police investigators from the Homicide Unit and Criminal Enforcement Division are on the scene conducting the investigation. Crime scene technicians from the Forensic Sciences Division are processing the scene, which includes the front of the Salisbury Barrack and a segment of Rt. 13, requiring both north and southbound lanes to be closed. State Highway Administration personnel are on the scene and have arranged a detour.

The preliminary information indicates a man entered the Salisbury Barrack shortly before 8:30 p.m. tonight and asked the duty officer to check a vehicle repair he had made after receiving a safety equipment repair order. The duty officer went outside to the parking spaces in front of the barrack with the man.

Moments later, the duty officer called for assistance outside the barrack. Another trooper who had just left the barrack returned immediately to assist. At this time, it is believed both troopers fired their Department issued pistols.

The duty officer was found lying along the edge of the parking lot near the entrance to Rt. 13. He had sustained injuries consistent with being struck and/or dragged by a vehicle.

The man who had come to the barrack was found in his vehicle about 150 yards north of the barrack on Rt. 13. His vehicle had struck the center median guardrail on the northbound side of Rt. 13.

EMS personnel responded and transported the man and the duty officer to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital. The duty officer is being treated for injuries.

State Police investigators are conducting interviews and preparing a search warrant. Their investigation will continue through the night.

Members of the Salisbury Police Department and the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to assist. An assistant Wicomico County state’s attorney is on the scene for consultation with investigators. When this investigation is complete, it will be presented to the Wicomico County State’s Attorney for review.

Further information, including the identity of the deceased man, is expected to be provided tomorrow. The investigation is continuing.

Wicomico County - January 2014 Workforce Data Just In - Shows Wicomico Gained 20 Jobs

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics just released the January 2014 Labor Force Data for Wicomico County.  According to their latest report, Wicomico finally turned a positive number after experiencing 12 consecutive months of job losses (+20) - see spreadsheet below.  However, the unemployment rate spiked to 8.6% from Decembers 7.9% rate.  The latest jobs number represents a 'sigh of relief' considering that the December 2013 workforce jobs number was the largest workforce loss on record (-1,863 jobs compared to December 2012).  The 20 jobs gained is still very minuscule when one takes into account that the local area population is increasing by approximately 1000 residents per year.
