Did ANY Wicomico County Council Member Do Their Due Diligence?

The information we are providing below took all of FIVE MINUTES to retain. Now, I ask YOU, look at the POPULATION in each County. Look at the UNEMPLOYMENT. Look at the Sheriff Salaries.

Now, you tell ME, does the Sheriff truly deserve a raise? NONE of the other Sheriffs take time off from their DAILY duties to travel around the Country doing seminars and making a LOT more income OUTSIDE the Sheriffs Department. Stevie Prettyman said, "Protect and Serve". Did she mean part time or full time?

Compare the POPULATIONS in other Counties to Wicomico. NONE of the other Counties have a $3.5+ million dollar shortfall.

It's one thing to LIKE a person. It's another to be fiscally responsible. Mike Lewis can hate me for what I stand for but shame on him for pressing this issue and even more shame on the County Council Members who did NOT do their due diligence and overturn a FORMAL rejection.

I should add. The Wicomico Sheriffs Office had more than $700,000.00 in OVERTIME last year.

  1. just like politicians, take your money and give it to them in form of raises and call it a cost of living increase...

If you can;t live on 50k to 100k a year, you have no hope and should end your life now and save us the trouble...

  2. why do you people act surprised by all of this crap?

It amazes me how you can think otherwise...

They have been doing this for the past 10 years and if you can't see the pattern now of all the times, and how blatant it is in your face on a purpose then you are the fools and deserve all this to happen...

If you let them get away with it, they will keep on doing it and eventually it gets worse...

You all keep wanting to know how to fix the country, where here it is, the tell all answer... GO TO SCHOOL AND LEARN, READ AND RESEARCH SO YOU ARE INFORMED...

They people who are ruining this country are not the politicians, it is the people who are plain and simple stupid...

You all won't jump off the bridge when I tell you to so, why are you listening to the crap these people lie directly to your face for?

You mind as well join the politicians side because:

    YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID........................................

  3. I have hear sheriff Lewis makes over three hundred thousand dollars a year doing his speeches. This is not a man who cares about the welfare of his community. He is in this for himself while we are seriously struggling.

  5. It shouldn't be about whether or not they deserve a raise...they do!

It should be about having the money to afford giving them a raise...we can't!

Then you need to have the spine and stones to say "The heart says yes, but the budget says no. You can be like every other citizen in this country - get a different job or keep the rate we're paying you."

Our council doesn't have good cartilage - let alone a spine...not to even start on the stones.....

  8. Joe you see now why no one goes to city and county council meetings. You could get in there and talk until you are blue in the face and tell them all the reasons why this should not happen, but THEY DO NOT CARE what you have to say - their minds are made up when they enter the building and nothing is going to change it.

  10. Just met with a bunch of old buddies of Mike Lewis and they are outraged.

Did you know, (for example) the State Police ALL make the same salaries, per rank, across the entire state. For example, a basic trooper here on the shore makes the same income as a trooper in Montgomery County.

While one can live high on the hog here, the other can't afford to live in Montgomery County. Yet the Sheriff always wants to compare THEIR salaries to the State Police, which is not at all fair. It's NOT apples to apples.

One topic that was brought up was, DID THE DEPUTIES GET A PAY RAISE TOO?

  15. Anyone who 'sells' their farm to the state in the form of a 'conservation easement' is a first class fool. If you really want your land 'conserved' you put it in a foundation type of thing. An informed attorney can walk you through this.

You are an idiot. Are you jealous? It's not full pay it's called retirement and he has done his time and he can work anywhere he pleases. Do you think he should do it for free? Now go back on the line and flip those burgers. I am still waiting for my Big Mac.

  26. You people are pathetic. Mike Lewis has served this state for more than 30 years. He is one of the most staunch advocates of the 2nd Amendment in Maryland law enforcement. He earned every dollar of his retirement pay

  29. If Stevie was so concerned about increasing the pay she should have worked to get the council members an increase. They haven't received an increase in over 20 years. What is her agenda? If she was concerned about an increase she would have done something for the County Council. She even admits that the council does much more work than the public sees. Why the Orphans Court? They get a full time salary and the council gets a part time stipend. She is mad. She has lost her mind. She is getting off the council so it doesn't matter to her. This past year all she has done was made herself a full time resident in Florida and said screw the constituents. Stevie step down and let someone else fulfil your duties.

If you don't like it don't vote for him. Quit whining on here and go get people to vote him out. I bet you can't do that because the majority knows he is doing a good job. It's none of your business what he does on his personal time or what his personal finances are. He will disclose that when he files the ethics forms. Has nothing to do with his elected position. He is well within his rights and he isn't doing anything illegal.

Why would anyone be jealous that someone is foolish enough to let the government have the last word on their property? For what amounts to a mere pittance. Only very wealthy people do this who have plenty of money to leave their heirs or people who need the money. There is no gray area. I bet if you look him up on mdlandrec he's mortgaged out his butt.

  34. I bet you are wrong 10:15. The people who do these government easements are the ones facing financial difficulties. I bet you any amount of money-I'll repeat any amount of money, if you look it up as all mortgages (deed of trusts) are public and online that you will find the person is in over their heads with debt and it's their only way out other than foreclosure.
So now go and look it up and wait for me to say "told you so."

Are you infatuated with him? You are constantly talking about him on every article you can find. Do you copy and paste the same article over and over again? You need to get a life before you get arrested.

  36. jim, I don't see it said anywhere that the Sheriff doesn't deserve his MSP retirement pay. What's at issue here is a raise for his current position as sheriff.
I personally do not think an elected official should get a raise while still holding the office, after all they wanted the job, knowing full well the salary. It seems a bit unethical and puts the elected officials who make the decision in an uncomfortable position as well.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If an elected official does not like the salary they are free to quit, just like any other worker.

What is this supposed to mean? The person is going to get arrested for what? Copy and pasting an article? You need mental help. You are some kind of nervous maniac, completely PO'ed because someone's guessed the real reason for the easement I think.
I have no clue whom the person you say is infatuated with this is, but it's good for the public to know exactly what goes on in a law/policy makers personal life. That is the true picture of who they are and if they don't like it, then they need to get out of the office. When the tax payers are paying you, they have every right to know every aspect of your life as it's all connected to the decisions made by the person.

  39. I am married to Wicomico County Sheriff's Deputy, when Mike Lewis first ran for office we proudly displayed his campaign sign in our front yard because we thought he was going to be a great change for the office and those officers were going to be allowed to do their jobs unlike what they were told to do or not do under Nelms. You know the first couple years were good and my husband along with his fellow officers were happy and out there locking up the "bad guys" and getting all kinds of support from the office. But then it turned into you never seeing the sheriff in the office because he was somewhere speaking or teaching etc... Guess what Mike Lewis we elected your as sheriff because we BELIEVED in you and your goals! You like ever other politician out there promised lots of things, you were going to get rid of all those "yes" men/women who don't know squat and hardly worked the road! You were going to boost morale in the office by making things better than they ever were under Hunter Nelms...the morale at the officer is at an ALL TIME LOW!!! Most would rather have Hunter back in the drivers seat! Then you smack everyone of your deputies in the face by hiring Owens as a Sgt., because you didn't think anyone in your office could do the job! That is pure bull$hit Mike and you know it! You have some damn fine officers working under you that could have done that job but since Owens was your buddy you hired him! I myself as a wife of a deputy who rarely calls out sick because he doesn't want to leave his fellow officers short staffed because he fears for their safety, who has been treated sometimes like dirt because he wont kiss your a$$...I felt like I had been smacked in the face too and I know there were MANY other wives who felt the same way! You need to address the issues at your office and stop traveling for your "part time" job ALL the time! The past month every time my husband goes to work they are under the minimum staffing of what should be allowed, this needs to be addressed because I can tell you that if my husband gets hurt on the job because you are too busy doing your "job" to do your real job, I will find the highest price lawyer I can and I will own you and that sheriffs office!! No officer should have to work under those conditions! Maybe you should get out on the road and help these guys out...no better way to build morale than to be on the front lines with your officers, maybe you can get all those "yes" men out there too!

  40. I haven't heard of any large busts that confiscate large quantities of drugs and a lot of drug money in a long time. What happened? The drug market hasn't disappeared, either they aren't catching anyone or the drug confiscations are being kept silent. Whether they like it or not, that money should also be monitored by oversight and taxpayers, that money belongs to the taxpayers. If we aren't catching anyone then the drug interdiction policies Mike is teaching don't work.

  41. Its funny how you all are quick to judge a person and his morals based on a small raise given by the county. Im sure if you were given a raise at your job you would be more than thrilled. Mike Lewis has worked hard for everything he gets. Being an elected Sheriff sure as hell isnt a walk in the park like some of you think it is. Mind your own business about what he does outside of the office. He is getting the job done when he is there and he is getting the job done when he's not. Ever think about how his family feels every day he leaves for work, not knowing if he will come back unharmed that night? ALl law enforcement officers deserve more respect than what they are given.

  42. I don't think it's proper for a sitting sheriff to ask for a raise. This goes not only to a sheriff but also to any elected official. If raises are voted on, it should go to the newly elected (different) people, otherwise it creates an appearance of possible impropriety.
After the incident last night on 13N, I think any talk of any raises should be for them.
As far as 'minding our own business" 11:12 that's not an issue as the public is minding their own business. When a person makes the choice to ascend into public life their life becomes an open book, all aspects-period. It's part of voters being thoroughly informed. There is no debating this issue so don't even try because you are wrong.

  45. we need a ballot initiative to cut the amount of County Sheriffs --if they want raises cut back the number of Deputies on the force--if there is work to be done at the office train the Deputies to do it --even Man 9-11 as a part of their job description --this is not the big city
