Spite Can Ruin A Man

Two months ago a local Family reached out to me in reference to their children being allegedly taken by their Mother. Law Enforcement have been aggressively searching for the Mother and the Children but have yet to locate them.

Over the past 5 years Salisbury News has delivered some very powerful tips to local law enforcement. Sheriff Mike Lewis, (more so than anyone) knows very well just how much we have been able to assist in numerous cases and today was no different.

HOWEVER, even though I have not been able to make direct contact with Mike Lewis or Matt Maciarello, I used to be able to rely on Chief Gary Baker to pass on information. That too has now changed.

You see, even though a Mother has run off with these children, even though this case is in the hands of the Sheriff's Department, even though I have an exact address, even though I have been attempting to call the Sheriff's Department, they refuse to answer their phone.

Therefore I was forced to make contact with the Maryland State Police and fill them in on the details. Yes, I left Gary Baker a message telling him I had such information on this person, Mr. Baker never returned my call. Last week I left him a text message on another case but again I never received a reply.

Look, here's my problem with all of this. It's one thing that Mike Lewis and Matt Maciarello no longer appreciate what I do. However, when there are CHILDREN out there who have allegedly been kidnapped and taken out of state, I DRAW THE LINE RIGHT THERE!

That being said, today I learned that someone I know will in fact be running against Mike Lewis for Sheriff of Wicomico County. Not only am I pleased that this person has chosen to commit himself to the race, he can actually beat Mike Lewis. The morale at the Sheriff's Department is at an all time low, officers are leaving the department and its childish behavior like the above case in which Sheriff Mike Lewis needs to move on and let a true professional do the job.

By the time the new election comes about, I will be exposing information about the Sarah Foxwell case that will hand deliver the election to the new incoming Sheriff and my guess is Mike Lewis doesn't have the stones to run again anyway. We'll then hear something like, I'm not running again so I can spend more time with my Family. You know the usual excuse.

Since I know Matt, Gary and Mike read Salisbury News, let me ask you guys this question. If it were YOUR children missing and I got word of exactly where they were located, would you answer the phone then? Grow Up Gentlemen!

In the mean time, the case is now being handled by the Maryland and Delaware State Police along with WBI.

NFP Big Miss: 120K, Expectations 205K, Unemployment 8.2%, "Not In Labor Force" At New All Time High

March NFP big miss at just 120K. Unemployment rate declines from 8.3% to 8.2%. Futures slide, for at least a few minutes before the NEW QE TM rumor starts spreading. The household survey actually posted a decline in March from 142,065 to 142,034. Considering Birth Death added 90K to the NSA number, the actual number was almost unchanged. And as always, as we predicted when Goldman hiked its NFP forecast yesterday from 175K to 200K saying "if Goldman's recent predictive track record is any indication, tomorrow's NFP will be a disaster", Goldie once again skewers everyone. Finally, Joe LaVorgna's +250,000 forecast was just 100% off... as usual.

The unemployment rate drops to 8.2% for one simple reason: the number of people not in the labor force is back to all time highs: 87,897,000.

Good News! Whoopi Goldberg Says It’s Okay To Use The N-Word!

Woe be unto any white reporter foolish enough to pay attention to this.

Oh the delicious irony.

On ABC’s The View Tuesday, as co-host Whoopi Goldberg supported Saturday’s call by CNN’s Don Lemon for reporters to say the N-word when quoting folks that have, the censors actually bleeped her when she said the word herself…

…Goldberg introduced the segment by mentioning how various CNNers have said the N-word during recent newscasts, after which she mentioned Lemon’s call for this to universally be the case.

After some give and take mostly with co-host Barbara Walters who expressed discomfort with the idea, Goldberg said, “What reporters do is they report the news. And every time you make it ‘the N-word,’ it’s cute.”

She continued, “But I feel very strongly about the word. Do not eliminate it. It’s part of our history. Every time people try to sort of make it sound better or more acceptable, let’s call it what it is.”

Walters then asked Goldberg if she uses the actual word.

Ironically, part of Goldberg’s response was bleeped, but from what I can tell by trying to read her lips in the video, I believe she said, “Yes I call it what it is. I say n—ger, they bleep me.”

Walters seemed surprised and asked, “When you say it on this show you are bleeped?”

…However, it still seems rather odd this discussion is happening as racial tensions are running high after the Trayvon Martin shooting and some seem to be ginning up a race war to assist the reelection of Barack Obama.

Beyond this, I sincerely wonder how the black community would respond if white journalists suddenly started using this word even in the context of a news report.

Stay tuned.

Latest Cybersecurity Bill Even More Of A Concern Than Last Attempt

If you thought SOPA/PIPA were bad, wait till you see CISPA

(ABC News) Congress is set to act on cybersecurity legislation that has been making its way through committees in both chambers for several years. The House is set to vote on these bills during the week of April 23, dubbed “Cybersecurity Week.” The Senate will take action soon after.

A lot of important work has gone into these bills that are intended to strengthen both the government and civilian response to cyber threats. Yet parts of these bills are alarming because, if passed, any information we put online—work, play, personal and sensitive—could be put at risk.

Thoughtful policy can help harden critical infrastructure targets—such as the electric grid, nuclear power plants, and communication networks—against unauthorized intrusions, making the Internet a safer place for all. But if Congress does not step up to make important changes in these bills, we may face an epic loss of our civil liberties.

What is this bill?

(RT) H.R. 3523, a piece of legislation dubbed the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (or CISPA for short), has been created under the guise of being a necessary implement in America’s war against cyberattacks. But the vague verbiage contained within the pages of the paper could allow Congress to circumvent existing exemptions to online privacy laws and essentially monitor, censor and stop any online communication that it considers disruptive to the government or private parties. Critics have already come after CISPA for the capabilities that it will give to seemingly any federal entity that claims it is threatened by online interactions, but unlike the Stop Online Piracy Act and the Protect IP Acts that were discarded on the Capitol Building floor after incredibly successful online campaigns to crush them, widespread recognition of what the latest would-be law will do has yet to surface to the same degree.

YouTube: New Channels Cater to Lefties

YouTube released 100 new channels in April, and there’s not a conservative voice to be found. The site embraced lefty culture with a vengeance, and liberal voices rule the social realm. From former MSNBC host Cenk Uygur to lefty new age author Deepak Chopra, liberals are commonplace figures in the new content.

YouTube’s new channels make it an ideal video platform for the left. While the channels feature prominent liberal personalities, there are no conservative voices in the lineup. Instead, the channels feature the defamation of Christians, attacks on capitalism and advice to mothers from a former Playboy model.

Government Do Anything Well?

I’m suspicious of superstitions, like astrology or the belief that “green jobs will fix the environment and the economy.” I understand the appeal of such beliefs. People crave simple answers and want to believe that some higher power determines our fates.

The most socially destructive superstition of all is the intuitively appealing belief that problems are best solved by government.

Opinion polls suggest that Americans are dissatisfied with government. Yet whenever another crisis hits, the natural human instinct is to say, “Why doesn’t the government do something?”

And politicians appear to be problem-solvers. We believe them when they say, “Yes, we can!”

In 2008, when Barack Obama’s supporters shouted, “Yes, we can!” they expressed faith in the power of government to solve problems. Some acted as if Obama were a magical politician whose election would end poverty and inequality and bring us to “the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.”

At least now people have come to understand that presidents — including this president — can’t perform miracles.

In other words: No, they can’t! — which happens to be the title of my new book.

The Truth About Wisconsin

Last week’s Republican primary in Wisconsin was not the biggest battle in the Badger State. That will come this June, when Wisconsin Democrats, backed by the raging might of state and national government unions, will attempt to recall Republican Governor Scott Walker in a fiercely contested general election.

It will be a difficult fight for the embattled governor. That stems in large part from the boldness of Walker’s 2011 budget reforms, which made him a hero to conservatives even as they turned him into a hate figure for unions and the left. First, Walker ended the unions’ automatic collection of dues from members’ paychecks, cutting off a major source of union funds. Next he required state workers to contribute a modest 5.8 percent of their salaries toward their pensions and to cover 12.6 percent of their health insurance premiums, thus bringing Wisconsin closer in line with private sector and national averages and giving the state a chance to get a grip on its spiraling finances. Most controversially, he restricted most public unions’ collective bargaining to salaries, canceling a corrupt and fiscally unsustainable cycle that saw unions negotiate generous perks with the same politicians they helped elect.

30-Year-Old Alleged Child Porn Producer Replaces Bin Laden on FBI's 'Most Wanted' List

A 30-year-old former school teacher who allegedly produced child pornography has replaced former Al Qaeda chief Usama bin Laden on the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" list.

Eric Justin Toth, who has used the alias "David Bussone," is wanted for his alleged production and possession of child pornography in Washington, D.C., and Maryland, authorities said Tuesday. A $100,000 reward is being offered for information leading directly to his arrest. An FBI official said the list is sometimes incomplete for lengthy periods because replacing a captured former fugitive entails examining a host of factors, including whether the bureau has run out of all other options in attempting to find the suspect. In this case, another man being considered for the list was captured, which set the process back even more.

Bush Lowered Gas Prices, Obama Is Raising Them

When gasoline prices rose under George W. Bush, the Democrats went crazy with accusations of how he and Vice President Dick Cheney were putting their allegiance to “big oil” over their allegiance to the American people. However, even amid their unfounded criticisms, Bush was able to bring gas prices down to approximately $1.84 a gallon simply by pushing for expanded drilling both on the continental U.S. and offshore. (For the record, the Democrats who were criticizing Bush for high gas prices also did their best to keep him from expanding drilling.)

Enter President Barack Obama. Under him, when gas prices began to rise, he laughed them off by telling one American to trade his SUV for a vehicle that got better mileage. And as the prices continued to rise, he made his often stated observation that green energy is the only long term solution for high energy prices. Then he rejected the Keystone Pipeline, which would have brought nearly a million barrels of Canadian crude to American refineries each day. Most recently, in a desperate attempt to get Americans to play along with his pin-the-high-gas-price-on-Exxon game, Obama has called for raising taxes on oil companies (as if increasing their cost of operations won’t increase the price we pay for the product they produce).

Syria Using Women and Children as Human Shields

The Syrian government and its security forces are using women and children as human shields in the government’s war with Syrian rebels. The brutal regime of

Palestinians have routinely sent women and children as suicide bombers in Israel. Osama Bin Laden famously used women as human shields when he was attacked and killed by the Seal Team Six.

WICOMICO COUNTY: BEND OVER, PLEASE, ON THURSDAY EVENING!

That’s when Rick Pollitt will have something brand new to shove up your you know what – his proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Look for a tax increase of at least 10% -- and possibly closer to 20%. And if you want the good doctor to do it to you in person, attend his presentation (“public hearing”) at the Civic Center (Flanders Room) at 7 PM on April 12.

And, if you go, you will probably hear Rick or Wayne proclaim that Wicomico County is “under taxed” compared to its peers. The Daily Times will repeat that mantra as if it were true. Don’t fall for that scam, folks.

Data recently posted on the County’s website shows that on a wealth-adjusted basis, Wicomico County residents bear the highest income tax burden (per capita tax receipts divided by per capita income) of any of Maryland’s Eastern Shore Counties. Also, the property tax burden in Wicomico is near the average for those counties, relative to the per capita assessable base. Thus, it appears that the real tax burden is already higher in Wicomico than other Counties in Maryland.

And then there’s Sussex County, which is another story and “peer” of Wicomico, but is never mentioned in the analyses by Pollitt and Strausburg. As we’ve suggested before – go north, young man.

PS – the “tax revenue cap”: from now on you can forget about it, and thank Delegates Cane and Conway for that whenever you see them.

Heaven or Hell?

While walking down the street one day a Corrupt Senator (that may be redundant) was tragically hit by a car and died. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance."Welcome to Heaven". "No problem, just let me in," says the Senator. "Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from the higher ups. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity." "Really?, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says to the Senator. "I'm sorry, but we have our rules." And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him. Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They played a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and the finest champagne. Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who is having a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are all having such a good time that before the Senator realizes it is time to go. Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises. The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens in heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him, "Now it's time to visit heaven... So, 24 hours passed with the Senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns. "Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity." The Senator reflects never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell." So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell... Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls to the ground. The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulders. "I don't understand," stammers the Senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?" The devil smiles at him and says, "Yesterday we were campaigning. Today, you voted.."

Chocolate Medicine

For Heart Disease and Stroke

Heart attack survivors who eat chocolate two or more times per week cut their risk of dying from heart disease about threefold compared to those who never touch the stuff. Smaller quantities confer less protection, but are still better than none, according to the study, which appears in the September 2009 issue of the Journal of Internal Medicine. Earlier research had established a strong link between cocoa-based confections and lowered blood pressure or improvement in blood flow. It had also shown that chocolate cuts the rate of heart-related mortality in healthy older men, along with post-menopausal women. And now research published in May of 2010 in the Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism is saying that something in dark chocolate seems to guard against the damage of a stroke.

One of the most important actions of magnesium is its vasodilating effects which improves the blood supply to ischaemic areas and reduces infarct size.

The Journal of Internal Medicine study is the first to demonstrate that consuming chocolate can help ward off death if one has suffered a heart attack. “It seems that antioxidants in cocoa are a likely candidate” is the best Dr. Imre Janszky of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm could come up with for explaining the life-saving properties of chocolate. Dr. Martin Lajous, a doctoral candidate at the Harvard School of Public Health admitted that the protective mechanism by which chocolate might prevent stroke isn’t yet clear. Researchers in the stroke study pegged a flavanol in chocolate called epicatechin as the active agent. It is amazing that none of these researchers fingered magnesium as the main agent in chocolate that has these powerful medical effects.

Judge Considers Delaying Fort Hood Shooting Trial

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) -- A military judge on Tuesday said he would consider postponing until October the trial of the Army psychiatrist charged in the deadly Fort Hood shooting rampage.

Maj. Nidal Hasan's attorneys asked that the trial be delayed from June until October, saying they needed more time to review the large volumes of evidence in the case. The judge, Col. Gregory Gross, previously delayed the court-martial from March until June. It's unclear when he will decide on the defense's second request for a postponement.

Hasan is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder. He faces the death penalty if convicted in the November 2009 shootings on the Texas Army post.

Media Dishonesty And Race Hustlers

When NBC's "Today" show played the audio of George Zimmerman's call to a Sanford, Fla., police dispatcher about Trayvon Martin, the editors made him appear to be a racist who says: "This guy looks like he's up to no good. He looks black." What Zimmerman actually said was: "This guy looks like he's up to no good or he's on drugs or something. It's raining, and he's just walking around, looking about." The 911 officer responded by asking, "OK, and this guy – is he black, white or Hispanic?" Zimmerman replied, "He looks black." NBC says it's investigating the doctoring of the audio, but there's nothing to investigate; its objective was to inflame passions.

In his Associated Press article titled "Old photos may be deceptive in Fla. shooting case," Matt Sedensky pointed out that the photos carried by the major media were several years old and showed Zimmerman looking fat and mean and Martin looking like a sweet young kid.

Jesse Jackson told the Los Angeles Times that "blacks are under attack" and that "targeting, arresting, convicting blacks and ultimately killing us is big business," adding that Martin is "a martyr." President Barack Obama chimed in by saying, "If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon."

Let's look at some non-news cases. On March 14 in Tulsa, Okla., a white couple suffered a home invasion by Tyrone Woodfork, a 20-year-old black man. Ninety-year-old Bob Strait suffered a broken jaw and broken ribs in the attack. His 85-year-old wife, Nancy, was sexually assaulted and battered to death, ending their 65-year marriage.

Today's Fill In The Blank 4-11-12

If I could buy a new car/truck today it would be a _____.

Tax Burden: 40 Million Government Workers

How many people work for governments in the United States. Let’s look at the numbers.

The usual estimate of the number of employees of the U.S. government is 2.8 million. The estimate is fake. This does not count military personnel. But most important, it does not count contract workers paid by the federal government.

The Office of Personnel Management does not keep track of these workers. That would give the game away.

One man has estimated the total: Prof. Paul Light of New York University.

[The federal government] uses contracts, grants, and mandates to state and local governments to hide its true size, thereby creating the illusion that it is smaller than it actually is, and give its departments and agencies much greater flexibility in hiring labor, thereby creating the illusion that the civil-service system is somehow working effectively. . . .

Contractors and grantees do not keep count of their employees, in part because doing so would allow the federal government . . . to estimate actual labor costs.

Here is his estimate: 11 million, broken down as follows: 1.8 million civil servants, 870,000 postal workers, 1.4 million military personnel, 4.4 million contractors, and 2.5 million grantees. These figures are from 2006.

Yet the federal government isn’t all. Despite its huge budgets, state and local governments dwarf Washington in direct employment. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 3.8 million full-time and 1.5 million part-time employees on state payrolls. Local governments add a further 11 million full-time and 3.2 million part-time personnel. This means that state and local governments combined employ 19.5 million Americans.

When we add up the true size of the federal workforce – civil servants, postal workers, military personnel, contractors, grantees, and bailed-out businesses – and add in state- and local-government employees – civil servants, teachers, firefighters, and police officers – we reach the astonishing figure of nearly 40 million Americans employed in some way by government. That means that about 17 percent of the American labor pool – one in every six workers – owes its living to the taxpayer.

There is going to be a government default at some point. Tens of millions of these people will lose their jobs. The private sector will have to absorb them.

The average tax rate, including payroll taxes, for the middle 20 percent of U.S. families will be 15.9 percent in 2015, according to an estimate by the Tax Policy Center, a nonpartisan research group in Washington. Of the 217,000 households that would be affected by the Buffett rule, 4,000 will have incomes exceeding $1 million and tax rates lower than 15 percent, under slightly different measures of income and taxes by the center.

The Welfare Check

A young man walked into the local welfare office to pick up his check. He marched up to the counter and said, "Hi. You know, I just HATE drawing welfare. I'd really rather have a job.. I don't like taking advantage of the system, getting something for nothing."

The social worker behind the counter said "Your timing is excellent. We just got a job opening from a very wealthy old man who wants a chauffeur and bodyguard for his beautiful daughter. You'll have to drive around in his 2012 Mercedes-Benz CL, and he will supply all of your clothes." "Because of the long hours, meals will be provided. You'll also be expected to escort the daughter on her overseas holiday trips. This is rather awkward to say but you will also have, as part of your job, the assignment to satisfy her sexual urges as the daughter is in her mid-20's and has a rather strong sex drive."

The guy, just plain wide-eyed, said, "You're BS'n' me!"

The social worker said, "Yeah, well... You started it."

Prince George's County Officer on Leave After Killing Armed Man

LANDOVER, Md. - A Prince George's County police officer has been placed on routine administrative leave after shooting and killing an armed man.

Police say the officer, who's identified only as a three-year veteran of the force, was patrolling an access road behind FedEx Field near Sheriff Road Monday night, when he noticed three men acting suspiciously.

The officer got out of his cruiser to try to talk to them, but they ran. The officer caught up to one of them and deployed his Taser, but the suspect was able to remove the electric tongs and keep running.

The officer caught up with him again and got into a scuffle. That's when police say the officer saw him reaching for a silver handgun in his waistband.

Dental X-Rays Can Double Brain Tumor Risk, Study Finds

Dental X-rays could double the risk for the most common brain tumor, according to a study released Tuesday from scientists and doctors at Yale, Harvard and other prestigious institutions published in Cancer, a scientific journal of the American Cancer Society.

It sounds frightening -- and there is no question it invokes a serious warning -- but even those who carried out the research urge people not to overreact.

"Our take home message is don’t panic. Don’t stop going to the dentist," said the lead author of the study Dr. Elizabeth Claus, a neurological surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and the Yale School of Public Health.

Tensions Rise Among O'Malley, Miller, Busch At Bill Signing

Gov. Martin O'Malley isn't saying whether he will call a special session to try to make up for the failure of a proposed budget compromise in the waning hours of the Maryland General Assembly.

O'Malley appeared at an uneasy bill signing ceremony on Tuesday with Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller and House Speaker Michael Busch, just hours after a deal to avoid more than $500 million in cuts collapsed.

O'Malley described the budget outcome as "pretty much the low point of my experience here." He described it as "really a damn shame."

Pay TV Costing A Pretty Penny, And Rising

f you're one of those people who complain that there’s nothing to watch on TV today even though you have a gazillion channels, you’re not going to be happy with this news – turns out, you’re paying more for cable.

The monthly rate for pay TV has been rising at an average of 6 percent annually and hit $86 a month last year for basic pay and premium-channel TV, according to a reported released Tuesday by market research firm The NPD Group. The uptick in licensing fees - which are the fees cable and satellite providers pay for programs - is driving much of the increase, at a time when consumer household income has hardly budged.

IF I HAD A SON

The media controversy sparked by Barack Obama’s statement ‘If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon’ has prompted many prominent citizens to come to his defense by declaring, in the I-am-Spartacus fashion, “If I also had a son…”:

Nancy Pelosi: “… he’d owe China $256,000,000 before he reaches puberty.”

George Soros: “… he’d own a chauffeured tricycle.”

Bill Clinton: “… he’d know what ‘is’ is.”

Hillary Clinton: “I already have a son and his name is Bill.”

Michael Bloomberg: “… he wouldn’t be eating trans fats – or he’d be out of the will.”

Harry Reid: “… he wouldn’t smell like the unwashed masses visiting the Capitol.”

Sheriff Joe Arpaio: “… his birth certificate wouldn’t have PDF layers.”

Donald Trump: “What Sheriff Joe said.”

Al Sharpton: “… he wouldn’t be a honky or one of them Jews.”

Michael Moore: “… I wouldn’t eat him as long as he doesn’t get between me and the fridge.”

Joe Biden: “I have a son? Have we met?”

Rosie O’Donnell: “… I’d keep him in a cage and train him to attack toupees, and then I’d invite Donald Trump over and open the cage.”

Oprah: “… I’d keep him away from Rosie O’Donnell.”

Anita Dunn: “… I’d name him Mao Tse-Dunn.”

Eric Holder: “… I’d tell him he was conceived during fast and furious sex, then I’d smuggle him into Mexico.”

Grandpa, Patriot Who Goes By 'The Raptor,' Claims Credit for Taking Down Al Qaeda Websites

An American hacker, who calls himself “The Raptor” and claims to be a grandfather waging his own war on terror, is taking credit for a series of takedowns of online forums used by Al Qaeda sympathizers, FoxNews.com has learned.

Calling himself a patriot acting on behalf of U.S. troops serving overseas, The Raptor claims to be behind last month’s attack on Al Qaeda’s main online forum, Shamukh Islamic Network, and a handful of other sites and forums, including Ansar al-Mujahideen, where jihadists gather online to issue threats and exhort one another to acts of terror. The sites went down on March 22, and most remained dark for nearly two weeks. As the websites stayed offline, The Raptor taunted his targets on Twitter, daring them

Truth

"[I]n the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously."

Zimmerman's Lawyers Withdraw

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) - The Trayvon Martin case took a bizarre turn Tuesday when George Zimmerman's attorneys quit, complaining that they have lost all contact with him and that he called the prosecutor and talked to a TV host after they told him not to speak to anyone.

The lawyers portrayed the former neighborhood watch captain as erratic and his mental state as shaky, and they expressed fear for his health under the pressure that has been building in the month since he shot and killed Martin, an unarmed black teenager.

"As of the last couple days he has not returned phone calls, text messages or emails," attorney Craig Sonner said at a news conference outside the courthouse. "He's gone on his own. I'm not sure what he's doing or who he's talking to. I cannot go forward speaking to the public about George Zimmerman and this case as representing him because I've lost contact with him."

DHS Wants Towers

The Department of Homeland Security issued a solicitation for technology to help secure the Mexican border. It called for towers loaded with sensors that would replace a canceled fence project in which DHS had sunk nearly $1 billion. NextGov reported the new solicitation called for existing products. The government emphasized the option to cancel the whole thing if contractors bid exotic but untested technology. The project called for the first tower to be delivered a year from the contract award.
