Prince George's County Officer on Leave After Killing Armed Man

LANDOVER, Md. - A Prince George's County police officer has been placed on routine administrative leave after shooting and killing an armed man.

Police say the officer, who's identified only as a three-year veteran of the force, was patrolling an access road behind FedEx Field near Sheriff Road Monday night, when he noticed three men acting suspiciously.

The officer got out of his cruiser to try to talk to them, but they ran. The officer caught up to one of them and deployed his Taser, but the suspect was able to remove the electric tongs and keep running.

The officer caught up with him again and got into a scuffle. That's when police say the officer saw him reaching for a silver handgun in his waistband.

  1. In the cow boy movies the one that draws first is wrong.
You would never see matt dillion (gun smoke) draw first on any body.

  3. Why was the cop questioning them?
    Acting suspiciously?
    How do you do that?
Why did the cop "chase" anyone?
    PG county?

Heck yeah I'd run from an arrogant cop, especially if I was doing nothing wrong.
The difference is I, I say I, would be telling the story. Not him.

  4. 11:45 I've been accused of living under a rock before but I really think you've got me beat this time.I really don't think we read the same article. Since when is it ok to be hanging out on private property without permission? If they weren't doing anything wrong, I'm pretty certain they wouldn't have taken off like they did. And PLEASE don't turn this into a racial issue. I don't care what race they are, they were probably up to no good! Oh and my name is Dana not Anonymous if you decide to write back ;D

  5. Good! One up for the good guys and the officer doing his job goes home safe. Notice that it said he is on leave and not suspended. That is normal in police agencies to give an officer time. When did all the libs start reading this site. Wait till an armed thug breaks in to your house or holds you at gun point. Then you will pray for the police to put more down.

  6. 12:49 your a fool.
Again, why would the cop chase them?
What exactly was illegal enough for a cop to pull and fire a taser? Loitering? Really??
The cop instigated this by either profiling or harassing while on a power trip. Nothing about "private property" in the article. Your not as perceptive as you think.
If you were you would know cops plant evidence to support lies all the time. The guy is dead. May be good riddance, maybe cold blooded murder because he was getting his butt handed to him for being an aggressive zealot and murdered the guy. Planted the gun and next on the scene planted the pcp "evidence". What do you think happens to all the guns in the buyback program anyway? What about cases that don't get prosecuted because the drug evidence is missing from the evidence locker?
    Huh? Stop being so naive.
injustice everywhere. Search it, tune in and wake up.

Before you call someone a fool please learn the difference between your and you're. How can you justify calling someone else a fool and telling them to wake up when you seem to be the one that needs educated.

  8. If you run from a cop, besides being foolish, you are putting yourself at risk.

I was taught to aim at the legs if you shot at someone. When they ask you why he is hit center mass tell them you missed.

They found a vial of pcp, a weapon, and a ski mask on the one who couldn't outrun the cop, twice.

Pcp would explain how he was able to remove the tongs from the taser and continue running from the cop.

He made a bad decision and paid the ultimate price for it. If they were worried about an 'arrogant' cop, let me remind you it was originally 3 of them against one cop.

I predict this killing will be found to be justified. Regardless of PG's reputation for bad cops, in this instance I say good job and good riddance.

I bash cops on a regular basis myself but, I also give credit where credit is due.

Even I know all cops are not bad and do the right thing on occasion. This is one of those occasions.

  9. Good job officer. We need more like you. I agree if they weren't doing anything wrong thry wouldn't have run. The gun was probably stolen.

  10. I don't know enough about the tasers but wouldn't wearing heavy clothing avoid the person being able to be tasered?
I'm sure there is a clothing manufacturer out there that is already trying to make something so that a taser can't penetrate it.

  11. Everyone knows I ain't no fan of the police, but I know that area. There isn't any reason for anyone to be there at night --- no businesses are open and there isn't any reason to be back there. I f I saw 3 people at night hanging out there and I was a cop, I would (rightly so) stop and ask them what are they doing there....all they had to do was say "we are just walking to my friends house" or something like that and fair enough, see you later (and then I would check on that area again in 20 minutes). But running? THAT is suspicious. Be fair about real life. Cops are paid to look for things like that. At least he wasn't manning a radar stop or looking for seat belt violators, but doing REAL cop work.

  12. Hey 5:08 I'm pretty certain that the property wasn't in either of the suspects names, so yes they were on private property. Therefore trespassing. As for a fool, you must be looking in a mirror. DANA

If you read the rest of the story you would see it stated he was not wearing heavy clothing.
