The Marxist At UBS And His Confusion
Marx analysed and explained insightfully how and why capitalism would succumb to recurrent crises, and especially big ones after a credit bust.Let's be clear about a few things. The current financial crisis was caused by the on again, off again, money printing by central banks, such as the Federal Reserve.
Austrian business cycle theory fully explains the crises. Indeed, if one understood ABCT, you could have seen the current crisis coming in real time. (See here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here.)
Marx theories were a combination of bad economics, mixed with bad political theory, all wrapped with a Hollywood happy ending:

Suspicious Parcel At US Air Base; 3 Hospitalized
Three people from Scott Air Force Base in southwestern Illinois were hospitalized with rashes Wednesday and parts of the facility were evacuated after a suspicious package arrived at the base's mail center.
Capt. Kathleen Ferrero said 14 people were decontaminated on site and the three others were treated at a hospital in Belleville, Ill., then released. All were near the area of the base's mail center and may have been exposed, she said.
"Currently we're responding to a suspicious package that occurred at the official mail center (Building 1650)," air base spokesman Lt. Benjamin Garland tells CBS station KMOX St. Louis.
KMOX also reported that Hazmat crews are at the scene investigating the matter. It added the education center, bowling alley, and Airman Family Readiness Center are closed until further notice.

Christine O'Donnell Uninvited, Then Reinvited To Iowa Tea Party Rally [UPDATED]
Christine O'Donnell has been re-invited to a Tea Party rally in Iowa after being dropped from the event's lineup early Tuesday morning.
O'Donnell -- who was victorious in the 2010 GOP Delaware Senate primary over Rep. Mike Castle because of Tea Party supporters -- was slated to speak shortly before former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin at a rally sponsored by the Tea Party of America. After announcing O'Donnell's scheduled appearance late Monday evening, the conservative group began getting complaints from people around the country.
They ultimately decided to cut O'Donnell from the lineup, only to re-invite her hours later.
Spokesmen from the Tea Party of America gave conflicting comments on why O'Donnell was uninvited.

Teen, 15, Robs 73-Year-Old Man Of 7 Cents, Gets 2-6 Years In Prison, Felony Record
(CBS/AP) SYRACUSE, N.Y. - A 15-year-old Syracuse boy will now spend the next two to six years in juvenile detention and the rest of his life as a felon. It was all for a robbery that earned him only pocket change.
Anthony Stewart was found guilty of first-degree robbery earlier this month for beating and kicking a 73-year-old man and robbing him of seven cents. Prosecutors say the victim was on his way to a store last December when the two teenagers ran up from behind, knocked him into a snow bank, then kicked and punched him. The two teens had handguns, which Stewart later admitted were BB guns, prosecutors said.

This helps to explain the incompetence of this administration: only 8% of them have ever worked in a job not supported by tax money!
That's right! Only eight percent---the least, by far, of the last 19 presidents! And these people are trying to tell our big corporations how to run their business? They know what's best for GM, Chrysler, Wall Street, and you and me?
How can the president of a major nation and society, the one with the most successful economic system in world history, stand and talk about business when he's never worked for one? Or about jobs when he has never really had one? And when it's the same for 92% of his senior staff and closest advisers? They've spent most of their time in academia, government and/or non-profit jobs or as "community organizers." They should have been in an employment line.

Race And Economics
Chapter 3 of "Race and Economics," my most recent book, starts out, "Some might find it puzzling that during times of gross racial discrimination, black unemployment was lower and blacks were more active in the labor force than they are today." Up until the late 1950s, the labor force participation rate of black teens and adults was equal to or greater than their white counterparts. In fact, in 1910, 71 percent of black males older than 9 were employed, compared with 51 percent for whites. As early as 1890, the duration of unemployment among blacks was shorter than it was among whites, whereas today unemployment is both higher and longer-lasting among blacks than among whites.
How might one explain yesteryear's lower black unemployment and greater labor force participation? The usual academic, civil rights or media racial discrimination explanation for black/white socio-economic differences just wouldn't hold up. I can't imagine even the most harebrained professor, civil rights leader or media "expert" arguing that there was less discrimination a century ago and that explains why there was greater black labor market participation. Racial discrimination or low skills can explain low wages but not unemployment.

Man Decapitates Self With Cable, SUV
YORKTOWN, Virginia - A Chicago man who quickly accelerated in a sport utility vehicle with a cable around his neck decapitated himself after a domestic dispute in Yorktown, authorities said Tuesday.
Sheriff Danny Diggs said a deputy responding to a call of a domestic disturbance Tuesday was taking a statement from the man's ex-wife when another deputy driving by noticed an SUV pulling a utility trailer that was on fire. Authorities say the man started the fire.
A firefighter noticed a cable around the man's neck that was attached to a tree. When deputies tried to get the man to exit the SUV, he accelerated and was pulled from the vehicle and decapitated, they say.
The United States Of Amerijuana
I've always been passionate about food," says Jenelise Robinson. "And I've always been passionate about marijuana and the things it can do for the world."
The Denver woman is 35 but looks 20, with heavy loop earrings distending her lobes and an enormous bracelet to match. From her clavicles southward, her body is a riot of tattoos—the usual skulls and anchors as well as a large circle with a squiggle inside it on her right arm. (When a visitor points quizzically to the squiggle, she replies politely, "It's a baby in a brain," though the tone of her voice says, "Like, duh.") We shouldn't be misled by the biker look or the faux-'60s talk of changing the world. Robinson is all business—a consummate tradeswoman. In the past 16 months she has found a way to combine her passions for food and pot and make the combination pay, as founder, owner and head baker of Nancy B's Edible Medicine, one of the most successful start-ups in Colorado's newest "industry": medical marijuana.

DelDOT To Suspend Construction Projects Over Labor Day Weekend
Peak travel times during the Labor Day weekend are expected to occur from noon until 8 p.m. on both Friday, September 2 and Monday, September 5. All construction projects underway will cease at noon on Friday, September 3, except in the event of an emergency. Construction will resume on Tuesday, September 6.
DelDOT's Transportation Management Center (TMC) monitors over 5,500 miles of state-maintained roads around the clock. TMC personnel will observe the state-wide road network and adjust traffic signals in response to increased congestion or incidents.
Motorists traveling southbound through Delaware have Route 1, Route 113 and Route 13 available to help them reach their destinations. Motorists who have E-ZPass will be able to maintain regular highway speed through the E-ZPass Highway Speed Lanes at I-95 Newark, Route 1-Biddle's Corner, and Route 1-Dover Toll Plazas.
In order to keep pace with the traditionally large southbound traffic volumes on Friday and northbound volumes on Sunday and Monday, extra toll takers will be manning the tollbooths at all three Delaware toll facilities throughout the weekend.

Two Simple Secrets To A Great Relationship
These are very easy things to do - if you set your mind to it. I always recommend doing all the easy things you can do. Sometimes, because they seem so easy, people overlook them. But it's the easy, simple things that you do every day that make a relationship strong and happy.
When you have the kind of base that is built by countless friendly, kind and playful interactions, then when the inevitable difficult conflicts or misunderstandings come up they are much less daunting because they are exceptions to the overall spirit that you have created between you.
Bids and Turning
The first is what John Gottman calls "Bids and turning."
When someone makes a bid for your attention, turn toward them – actually, physically, turn toward them; and respond to them.
Simple, right?

Ocean City Bans Synthetic Marijuana
Officials in the beach resort town of Ocean City have banned synthetic marijuana.
Mayor Rick Meehan signed an emergency ordinance Tuesday banning the sale, possession and manufacturing of K2 and other substances sometimes known as "spice" that contain marijuana imitations or hallucinogenic agents, and any associated paraphernalia. The town council had approved the measures.
The council encouraged police to begin searching boardwalk stores for the substance immediately.
Worcester State's Attorney Beau Oglesby says he's optimistic the ordinance will have an immediate impact on what he considers to be a "very real problem" in Ocean City. He believes that county officials will consider a county-wide ban.
Dogs In Need Of A Home
Hello Joe,
Over the past month I have been taking care of my Grandfather's seven dogs, and have been working hard to find them their forever homes. My Grandparents had always been dog lovers. Over their lifetime together they raised over 50 dogs, and with a little patience could still remember every last one of their names. My grandmother unexpectedly passed away about a year and a half ago, leaving my grandfather to care for seven dogs (not to mention two cats). It became way too much for him to handle, but even harder for him to admit. He has become very ill, and will now have to be moved into assisted living where he can no longer care for his animals.
Every morning and afternoon, I go to his house to play, feed, love the dogs that remain. While I have two dogs of my own, it has become increasingly hard to care for so many animals. It is sad that they don't get the attention they deserve. I have adopted 4 out already, there are still three beautiful, loving dogs in need of a home. Each one is very special and would make loving, deserving pets for anyone who is ready to help an animal down on her luck. Please help me find them their forever homes!
The third dog who isn't pictured is named Baby. She is a 15 year old rat terrier, who despite her age is very spry and affectionate.
She loves to meet new people and would adapt well to any household.
Mr. Cheney’s Victory Lap
Oh—so you actually doubt he’ll go to hell? With the shit he’s pulled? Cabrón, please . . .
It is remarkable that relatively few people seem outraged by Mr. Cheney. Here is the man who, as Vice-President of the United States, violated some of the most important rights, freedoms and liberties that America has defended for over two-hundred years. Not only did he commit what in other times would have been considered war crimes and crimes against humanity—he is proud of having done so!

Mayor's Curfew vs Burger King
The Mayor seriously needs to go to Burger King (by the college) to explain about his curfew.
There were five people fired when they showed up to work on Monday. Why? Because they didn't show up to work the morning shift Sunday morning. They were following the Mayor's curfew.
Next time he announces a curfew should those working fast food ignore it?

OBAMA IS TRYING TO SCREW YOU AGAIN
This is how a socialist views the world. I have been making my monthly mortgage payments faithfully for 16 years. It doesn’t matter whether the value of the house is lower or higher than the mortgage. I have a financial obligation and I honor it. There are millions of deadbeats who have lived far above their means, took on too much debt, and never saved for a rainy day. Now they are living in homes for one or two years without making the legally required mortgage payment.
Obama feels their pain. His solution is to take my tax dollars and help the deadbeat out.
People make bad decisions every day. There are consequences to bad decisions, just as there are benefits to good decisions. Obama wants to reward the people who made bad decisions at the expense of the people who made good decisions. This is just another form of warped Keynesian thinking. These blithering idiots believe that the reduction in mortgage payments will boost the economy. Absolutely ridiculous!!! These morons haven’t been making any mortgage payments. They were already spending that freed up cash on iPhones and HDTVs.
What kind of country have we become? People who can’t or won’t make their mortgage payments need to be booted out on their fat asses. It’s time for them to rent or live in their mother’s basement. The housing market needs to be cleared of the massive oversupply through price discovery. At a low enough price, someone who had been renting and saving their money will be able to afford one of the houses. At the right price, every house will sell. The banks need to write-off their bad mortgages. If that pushes them into bankruptcy, so be it. An orderly liquidation of their assets has been precedent for a couple hundred years.
Don’t let Obama screw you again.
