Will This Be Our Biggest Day Ever?
One Year Ago Today
It was a year ago when the Election Board reviewed the Write In and Absentee Ballots in Princess Anne by Mr. John Wade who had clearly written in his own name on a multitude of ballots. He was disqualified and Frank White won the election as Town Commissioner. John Wade was found to have an out of state driver's licence, yet the Governor reappointed him to the Liquor Board anyway, go figure!

Woodland Ferry Just Not Herself These Days
Seaford -- The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) admits that it was spoiled by its 40 year old friend, Virginia C, otherwise known as the previous Woodland Ferry. She ran like a dream until her legacy ended due to natural causes in 2007.
Whenever you get something new it is expected to be perfect, but unfortunately this is not the case with our new Woodland Ferry, affectionately named the Tina Fallon. Maybe the Nanticoke River wants her old friend back, or the gods of the seas are just not looking favorably on our little stretch of the waterway. Whatever the problem, DelDOT intends to stand behind the Woodland Ferry, mending her thruster and nurturing her back to good health and operation. You just don't give up on a lady as special and unique as her.
Since the thruster oil leak was discovered on Tuesday, May 26, the ferry has been a little under the weather, and will remain down and out for at least the next few weeks. This will allow the entrapped fishing line, which originally caused the leak, to be removed from the thruster. It will also be an opportunity to take the thruster apart for inspection and repair, while carefully reviewing her various symptoms and finding the cause of her ailing spirit.
DelDOT will work with caution, but as quickly as possible in order to return our new friend to her work crossing the Nanticoke River. However, as with any diagnosis or procedure there is paperwork, financial documentation and a final checkup to ensure she is back in good health.
DelDOT apologizes for the interruption of service, but will not operate the ferry when it poses a safety hazard to passengers, animal habitats or the fish. Public safety is our paramount concern-for both the public and our friend, the Tina Fallon.
DelDOT appreciates the public's concern for the ferry, and will let everyone know when she is feeling like her old self again.

Cover-Up: CBS Bans Eligibility Billboards
Industry signage leader rejects campaign asking simply 'Where's the birth certificate?'
WorldNetDaily
WASHINGTON – The company touting itself as the "world's largest out-of-home media" enterprise has banned WND's national billboard campaign that asks one simple question: "Where's the birth certificate?"
CBS Outdoor, a division of CBS Corp. that sells more outdoor advertising than any other billboard company in North America, refuses to accept purchases of space on any of its 550,000 displays nationwide, media buyers for WND report.
The billboard campaign was begun last month by Joseph Farah, editor and chief executive officer of WND, due to his frustration with media colleagues not giving attention to what he sees as critical questions about Barack Obama's constitutional eligibility to serve as president.
"Here we have one of the largest media companies in the U.S. now not only refusing to allow news coverage of a vitally important national question being asked by millions of Americans, but one that won't even permit the purchase of space to raise the question," said Farah. "What is the value of a First Amendment in a country when this kind of self-censorship is at work – self-censorship specifically geared to stifle inquiry and debate about the most powerful person in the country."
Are you motivated yet to join the billboard campaign and clear up the air of mystery surrounding Barack Obama's constitutional eligibility to serve?
Farah maintains Obama has not proved he is constitutionally eligible to serve as president as a "natural born citizen, and suggests only the release of his long-form birth certificate showing the hospital of his birth, attending physician and other details can conclusively meet that test. Obama's presidential campaign released to select news organizations only what is known as a "certification of live birth," a document obtainable in Hawaii in 1961 by Americans actually born outside the country.

Open Thread On What Time John Pick Will Release Ethics Board Findings
LET'S MAKE THIS EVEN MORE INTERESTING!
The person, (who uses their name) that comes closest to the date and time of the Ethics Board findings wins a FREE pair of Fernando Guerrero Tickets.
You must put your name up in order to qualify and you can only do so ONCE. The time will be based on what time the Press Release is sent out to Salisbury News and others.
So Why The Delay On Ethics Board Findings?
Because the Daily Times doesn't go to print until tomorrow and as usual, even though they had their decision before they left the building yesterday, there's no way the GOB is going to put out the information before the Daily Times has a better chance at this being old news and revive it again in their print edition tomorrow morning.
They have been playing this game for years and politicians continue to fall for their crap. HELLO, they have a Website! Tilghman is still running the City of Salisbury and they're still running the Daily Times. Get on with it Wilber and Pick and quit doing a has been newspaper favors.
More On Yesterday’s Ethics Hearing
First off, I’m not going to call Jonathan Taylor “The Fat Man” any more and I’d like you to refrain from doing so too. A part of today stemmed from us once being friendly, but no more, and from him being friendly with Debbie Campbell, but no more. I think a lot of what he’s done is wrong, but I’m not doing the right thing by making fun of his weight.
Further, while he sent even more complaints on his ever-expanding complaint just this morning, he’s fully within his rights to file an ethics complaint, misguided though it may be. The real culprits here are Barrie Tilghman for doing what she knew damn well was wrong to do, out of spite, and to cause trouble, and Louise, Gary and Shanie for staging this set up right with her. John Pick and Paul Wilber have a lot to answer for too, just my opinion.
Jonathan’s complaint alleged that Terry was guilty for voting on whether to add council health insurance back in after Barrie cut it out (she voted “nay” and you’ll see why below) and for voting on the budget with her health insurance in it. It also alleged that Terry “advocated” for her insurance or for Debbie’s. Of course, since Debbie was sick the night of these votes, the best Jonathan could possibly get on her was allegedly “advocating” for her health insurance.
All I can say is, if they are found guilty, which I can’t believe after watching those proceedings they will be, people need to stand in line file an ethics complaint against Shanie. Also against Gary and Louise.
Terry Cohen made one hell of a case (without an attorney) that you can’t bind and gag legislators to this degree or they’d never be able to do what they’re supposed to do. She showed how this all began (now these are my words reporting, so don’t jump on Terry or Debbie as putting it as bluntly as I’m going to) when Debbie Campbell couldn’t reimburse her full premium after doing so for three years. Debbie is the ONLY councilperson to reimburse the city as far as city clerk Brenda Colegrove could recall about this policy that goes back decades.
Sorry for the long post, but honestly, Terry was so detailed in what she presented, I had a hard time keeping up.
She showed how the salary review committee had included benefits in its deliberations and the council voted on that. She showed how Barrie pulling her stunt violated the charter and the code. She debunked city administrator John Pick (see, for the new folks, I’m trying to include the background of who’s who) when he said elected officials were a different class with Blue Cross Blue Shield. No, they aren’t. They are treated the same as all city employees, and pay the same difference in premium as employees for dependents.
But the bombshell was, she showed how Barrie (with the help of Pick, Wilber and Oland, I might add) VIOLATED THE MARYLAND CONSTITUTION! Yes, you heard me, the state constitution! You should have seen Paul Wilber scribbling notes like crazy. So there was NOTHING wrong with voting on the budget, NOTHING. And that staged "vote of support" Gary wanted? Clearly a set up to get Debbie and Terry to vote on something very isolated about the health insurance so the ethics violation would have a better chance of sticking. My bet is Louise just went along with Terry because she's starting to kiss up to the public again for another run for office. Louise used Terry and her supporters (and Debbie's and Tim Spies') before, but she sure isn't going to get them again. (Look, Louise, it's politics. I understand that. We can talk and be nice. But I'll call this political b.s. exactly what it is, just so you know.)
Debbie had an attorney with her, and it was clear from their piece that Debbie had done no wrong. With today’s extended complaint, Jonathan showed it was really Debbie he was after, but she spoiled everything for him and everybody by getting sick! ROTFLMAO!
A lot more of the charges fell on Terry then, but she handled it like a champ. The thing that got me was how she described the chronology of events. Even though she said things with kid gloves and even said how this could bring some good changes in how the city does things, it was pretty clear to me that while Louise has recently put on a good face about this issue publicly, she managed the timeline just so to help set a trap.
Gary? OMG!!!! This guy didn’t say a word about health insurance for his buddy Michael Day, but now that it was Debbie’s insurance, after she paid out of pocket for three years UNLIKE ANYBODY else, Gary was happy to go on the attack and sound like a budget watchdog. Voting with favoritism…isn’t that UNETHICAL? “It’s personal.” Voting on that basis…isn’t that UNETHICAL? Salisbury has to be crazy to elect this guy again and I can’t stress enough that you people have to stop voting him in. At least you made the right choice with Jim Ireton over Gary, and by a BIG margin.
Shanie, well, Shanie’s Shanie. She “agreed” to drop the insurance. “Agreed?” Agreed to what? And who with? Things that make you go “hmmmmm.”
Sorry again for such a long post, but you people said you wanted background and detail, so I’m trying to deliver. It’s not easy with all that is constantly going on around town and in the area. I’ll leave the analysis to G.A. He might even have an interesting word or two to say about John Pick’s presence there. And if Jonathan’s name has to come up again, I’ll just call him Jonathan. I hope to control my own self and not feed this guy’s sad need for attention and revenge for what offense, I don’t know.
The last note I’ll leave you with is, the Ethics Commission chairman couldn’t be there today, so they elected Bob Gladden to preside. At the end, Gladden, who did the right thing and disclosed in the beginning that he was a former councilman who was on insurance, said he just didn’t see a violation here. And Paul Wilber jumped in and told him that they had to meet in closed session to arrive at their conclusion. We all waited hoping for an answer, but they came out and said, it was reached but not final. That might just mean putting it on paper, but we will see.
Seriously, this was a real lesson in democracy and the Ethics Commission members seemed like nice people who took what they were doing to heart. It’s a shame that everyone had to have their time wasted (and Terry and Debbie had their names dragged through the mud) because of a spiteful mayor and a vengeful former friend, but maybe it’ll produce some of the needed changes Terry spoke about so we can have a better government. Again, we will see.
Salisbury Ethics Commission Show Trial
To be fair, the Ethics Commission ran a fairly clean meeting. The attending members: Donna Forgash, Norman Lyster, Bob Gladden, and Fran Kane all asked valid, thoughtful, and polite questions.
While several people at the hearing asked the same question, "What the hell are we doing here?", the Ethics Commission serves a theoretically important role. It has been suggested that the board should have examined the complaint prior to today's hearing and ruled that it was frivolous. However, if a complaint had been filed against Barrie Tilghman, Mike Dunn, Gary Comegys, or Louise Smith and the Commission had done so (ruled it frivolous in a private meeting) I would be one of the first to scream fraud and cover-up; so would many of the same people asking that question today.
Was the complaint frivolous? It turns out that it was. Councilwoman Terry Cohen made a presentation that not only proved the claim specious, but shamed City Solicitor Paul Wilber for his complete incompetence on these matters. While not named specifically today, Cohen also proved Councilman Gary Comegys to be a liar, a fool, or both. You'll have to decide.

Salisbury University Students Riot or Not?
If you were relying on the MSM to report on this incident you would say, NOT. I have been waiting nearly a month, 3 weeks to be exact, to see if anything was going to be reported on this incident by any of the MSM, or not. Obviously, the answer is NOT.
On May 12, 2009, a Tuesday night, when all was quiet over most of Wicomico County, at 11:00 p.m. students were partying like it was a weekend. Partying in large numbers on Cynthia Place, Varsity Lane, and Onley Road. It's the end of classes for many and along with that comes the revelry of either graduation or long awaited summer break, we've all learned to expect it and deal with it, somewhat. The difference on this date, the celebration on Onley Road got a bit out of hand, quite a bit out of hand.
At nearly midnight, Salisbury Police were called out for a fight. Little did they know, there would be 400+ young people out in the streets, in a drunken brawl. In my estimation, of all accounts provided, this was more than a drunken brawl, this was nothing less than a riot. Fists thrown, beer bottles thrown, people being beaten up, shattering the windshields of Salisbury police vehicles, personal property being destroyed, etc. Had these kids set fire to surrounding buildings it would have been a riot on the same scale as the Watts riots.
City police made every attempt to bring the situation under control, according to SU Police calls for service, SPD called the SU police to provide assistance. Neighbors and students said, assistance was provided by Wicomico County Sheriff's deputies, as well.
Today, I called Salisbury University police and spoke with Jack Bunting. I inquired about this incident and asked for a disposition. He transferred me to Student Affairs. A woman with a pleasant voice answered, I asked of her the same information, she transferred me yet again. This time I spoke with Mr. Dane Foust, Associate Vice President of Student Affairs. While he was very polite he offered no real information other than to say he found it strange I would be calling today. When asked why strange, he replied that they just put a call in to Chief Allan Webster of SPD to schedule a meeting on this very subject. The meeting is to be held with the Dean of Students, Chief Ed Lashley and Chief Webster. That is all the information he would provide at this time.
Now that school is nearly over and the students either have returned home or are preparing to return to their respective homes, I think it a bit late to attempt any accountability. They should have been arrested at the time of the incident not after a meeting a month later, if at all. Mr. Foust claims they don't know what students are involved. How can they not know when SPD allegedly provided the Dean of Students a list of 93 names of those involved? Mr. Foust claims to have no knowledge of the list of names. Giving Mr. Foust the benefit of doubt, let's assume he has no knowledge of this list. Why hasn't the Dean of Students provided him with this information? Why didn't SPD, SU and WCSO arrest and charge these 93 students? Why is this being kept quiet? I realize relations with the University and the neighborhoods are strained at times but, how can we ever have any level of confidence in the word of the leaders at SU if they keep sweeping things under the rug? Did they honestly believe no one knew about this incident? How will we ever have transparency in our local government if the Chief of Police aids the University in sweeping these incidents under the rug?
Who is going to reimburse the city's insurance company for the damages to the police vehicles? If the city's insurance carrier is not going to be reimbursed, how much damage has to be suffered, at the hands of drunken students, before someone is held accountable and financially responsible? Where is that Government in the Sunshine we've all been promised?

Did Someone Jump Off The Bay Bridge?
Benefit Spending Soars To New High
The recession is driving the safety net of government benefits to a historic high, as one of every six dollars of Americans' income is now coming in the form of a federal or state check or voucher.
Benefits, such as Social Security, food stamps, unemployment insurance and health care, accounted for 16.2% of personal income in the first quarter of 2009, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reports. That's the highest percentage since the government began compiling records in 1929.
In all, government spending on benefits will top $2 trillion in 2009 — an average of $17,000 provided to each U.S. household, federal data show. Benefits rose at a 19% annual rate in the first quarter compared to the last three months of 2008.
The recession caused about half of the increase, according to the report. Unemployment insurance nearly tripled in the past year. The other half is the result of policies enacted during President George W. Bush's first term.

Urban Salisbury's Plan
After reading the Daily Times article about the Urban Salisbury Downtown Revitalization plan, I am disappointed. I sincerely hope that there is something meatier to this plan that what was published in the paper, but I have yet to see it, and based on the published information, I am flat out confused.
The new plan will create a total of 18 parking spaces – but that simply isn’t enough to really fill a restaurant, concert, or store. There are already parking spaces on the other side of the City Center, and they were not enough to keep the businesses inside afloat. So while parking is a problem, low-impact parking improvements are not going to help. A major revamp of the entire area into either a fully pedestrian shopping center or an area with substantial parking are the only feasible answers.
The Daily Times reports that this plan will create outdoor dining in the City Center area. There are ALREADY not one, not two, but THREE separate, if little-known, outdoor dining areas in that general area. One of them is a lovely garden seating area behind where City Bistro used to be, and back when Legends had that space, it was used for live music and cocktails. Guess what? Both businesses failed, not because there was not enough outside seating, but because there was not enough traffic in general. In addition, unless there is funding for better patrols, increased seating on the plaza may only serve to increase the already high number of homeless who utilize the plaza as a place to rest during the day. While our community needs to embrace the less fortunate and offer such respite, I doubt that increasing these numbers in that area will greatly improve the foot traffic into the stores and businesses along the plaza.
It will build a stage on the government building steps – why? Have the few performers that we have there complained of discomfort? Why not instead expand the Art Institute & Gallery, which long ago outgrew its space, or incorporate the old fire station into a performance venue? Urban Salisbury included plans for creating reflecting pools and a town square – why? We have at least two fountains on the plaza now, and they look terrible and are not properly kept up. And technically, if anyone wants to look, we have benches and trees in front of the old courthouse, across the way from the government buildings – we HAVE a town square. The Daily Times quotes the plan as offering, “A streetscape improvement that would create a unified urban corridor with increased trees and landscaping in some parts; traditional street furnishings, signage, curbing and traffic signaling; and clearly defined and separated vehicular and pedestrian ways.” Seriously? The overflowing trash cans are already there, thanks, there are already street lights, and the sidewalks are clearly demarcated.
I am deeply disappointed in the plan, and do not think it offers much to excite the general public of Salisbury about the downtown area. Something far more drastic and radical needs to happen. In addition, this plan is primarily just a ‘sprucing up’ of what is already there. Surely $5 million is not needed to tidy the neighborhood? I am amazed that given the current budget cuts, that the Council gave Urban Salisbury over $200,000 just to continue development of this obviously futile plan. Urban Salisbury says that the money will have little to no impact on taxpayers – I disagree – that money could be spent on schools, shelters, the local arts organizations, or general infrastructure. Instead, it’s going to pay for Urban Salisbury to remake what is already in place. This is the Emperor’s New Clothes, and it really should stop now.
I am a supporter of Urban Salisbury as an organization, and have met and hold the deepest respect for Urban Salisbury’s director. I am sure that this is what they felt they could realistically accomplish. But frankly, I think they need to provide a plan that is bigger, stronger, and more innovative than this one. I hope that you and the citizens of Salisbury will insist that they go back to the drawing board and use the $200,000+ award to come up with something better. Whatever happens to the downtown area, it needs to be big enough to make the locals feel compelled to go down and take a look. It needs to blow everyone away. It must, absolutely must, provide something to the community that isn’t available anywhere else. They need to pick up the downtown and really shake it up. Otherwise, the money will be wasted and the downtown revitalization will stall once again. I, for one, wonder just how many times the downtown can fail before it crumbles completely.
I know many will disagree, but if it will get locals really talking about what should happen downtown, then I am happy to sign my name -

How's Your Interest Rates Working For You?
Three Years Ago Today
Two Years Ago Today
It was two years ago today the States Attorney's Office was desperately trying to get a joint ordinance with the City to battle Graffiti Policies between the City and the County.
For some reason the former Mayor refused to work with the County, (could have been Chief Webster) and the issue is still not resolved to date. I did bring this up with Mayor Ireton last week at the Camden Association Meeting where Tom Stevenson was also present. Hopefully now with a new Administration they can finally work together towards this goal as Graffiti still causes quite a bit of a problem throughout the City.
The Emergence Of President Obama's Muslim Roots
During a conference call in preparation for President Obama's trip to Cairo, Egypt, where he will address the Muslim world, deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications Denis McDonough said "the President himself experienced Islam on three continents before he was able to -- or before he's been able to visit, really, the heart of the Islamic world -- you know, growing up in Indonesia, having a Muslim father -- obviously Muslim Americans (are) a key part of Illinois and Chicago."
Given widespread unease and prejudice against Muslims among Americans, especially in the wake of 9/11, the Obama campaign was perhaps understandably very sensitive during the primaries and general election to downplay the candidate's Muslim roots.

Million Dollar Question: "Whose Problem Is It?"
Besides last night's accident involving a Salisbury Fire Truck there was yet another trying issue at hand. Engine 210 was taken out of service until further notice due to the accident.
During the heavy storm several stop lights went out which is not an unusual thing. However, the stop lights at both the Parsons Rd., Nanticoke Rd. and the Parsons Rd., Pemberton Dr. intersections both went out. A Salisbury Police officer arrived at the Pemberton location to assist with traffic because it was a city problem. A Wicomico County Sheriff's deputy arrived at the Nanticoke location and radioed in saying that it was a state problem, but he would remain on scene and assist with traffic until someone else showed up (which is nice of him, I thought).
Dispatch called the deputy back shortly thereafter and advised him that state denied responsibility of the lights and to call city. Well, city denied responsibility and said that it belonged to state. Wicomico made another call to state just to verify and they ADAMANTLY stated that it was not their responsibility. The deputy asked dispatch if they could ask the city police officer if they could block traffic from coming down that short stretch of road until they figured out the situation and the deputy would block traffic for him.
Apparently the state had contacted city and got into a shouting match with them because city REFUSED to assist county in any way!!! So who's problem is it and why can't we all just get along???
BORN IN THE USA?
WorldNetDaily
WASHINGTON – Is that "birth certificate" of Barack Obama's worth the paper it is written on?
That's the question raised by a new campaign offering toilet paper rolls imprinted with the "certification of live birth" posted on the Internet by Barack Obama's presidential campaign last fall.
The effort is donating a portion of the proceeds from the campaign to WND's national billboard campaign that asks the simple question, "Where's the birth certificate?"
Yesterday, the campaign received a boost when WND's White House correspondent, Les Kinsolving, asked Obama's press secretary, Robert Gibbs, why the president would not release his actual long-form birth certificate to the public and put to rest dozens of lawsuits and questions from hundreds of thousands of Americans concerned about his constitutional eligibility to serve.
Kinsolving specifically made reference to a WND petition signed by nearly 400,000 people calling for full disclosure.
"Are you looking for the president's birth certificate?" he asked incredulously. "Lester, this question in many ways continues to astound me. The state of Hawaii provided a copy with the seal of the president's birth. I know there are apparently at least 400,000 people – (laughter) – that continue to doubt the existence of and the certification by the state of Hawaii of the president's birth there, but it's on the Internet because we put it on the Internet for each of those 400,000 to download. I certainly hope by the fourth year of our administration that we'll have dealt with this burgeoning birth controversy."

Teacher Arrested For Sexual Extortion And Unlawful Sexual Contact 3rd
Location of Incident: Sussex Central High School, 26026 Patriot’s Way, Millsboro, Sussex County
Date of Arrest: Wednesday June 3, 2009
Defendant: John George Rainis, 24, 34704 Villa Circle, Lewes, DE
State Police have arrested an Indian River School District Teacher for Sexual Extortion and Unlawful Sexual Contact 3rd. Troopers took Rainis into custody today at Sussex Central High School where he is an athletic trainer and a full time substitute teacher.
State police began questioning a female student after rumors surfaced that an inappropriate relationship occurred between the two. State police believe the inappropriate behavior occurred several times in the training room at the high school during the month of March 2009.
State police executed a search warrant at the high school and at Rainis’ home in Lewes and removed electronic devices for forensic examination. The examination will be conducted by the State Police High Technology Crimes Unit.
Rainis was charged with 1 count of Sexual Extortion and 1 count of Unlawful Sexual Contact 3rd. Rainis was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court #2 in Lewes and was committed to the Department of Correction in default of $7,000 cash bail.

How Would You Fix the Economy?
This is from an article in the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?"
I think this guy nailed it!
Dear Mr. President:
Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy.
Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the
money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.
You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:
There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force.
Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the
Following stipulations:
1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered - Auto
Industry fixed.
3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis
fixed.
It can't get any easier than that!
If more money is needed, have all members of Congress and their
constituents pay their taxes...
Worth Repeating!
WCBOE Awards
Joe,
Just wanted to share a picture I took using my cell phone, that's why its blurry, but its from the WCBOE awards last night, I take pride in the picture because it's my son the 6th grade 1st place winner for the 24 game, Malik Sims and Jim Ireton.
Malik was so excited to see Mr. Ireton not as a teacher now but as a Mayor. Malik attended East Salisbury Elementary and remembers Mayor Ireton as a fun, loving always lending a smile to anyone kind of teacher, so he felt honored to be standing next to Mr. Ireton now MAYOR JIM IRETON.
As you can see in the picture some things never change, Mayor Ireton still has that fun smile, Kudos to Mayor Jim Ireton.
