An apology from "Totmom"

It came to my attention shortly after I submitted a post earlier that the material within was not original and I have removed the post in question and I want to apologize to everyone for my oversight. I frequently receive info from my many friends in "Webland" and the item regarding the Adam Walsh case was one of them. It was sent to me without any source acknowledgement and I should have checked it out first BEFORE creating a post in haste. I have apologized to Joe and now I apologize to YOU, the readers. Integrity means alot to me and without it, no one can be taken seriously, whether it be in your personal life or online via blogs.

MSP UPDATE - Critically Injured Child from I-95 in Beltsville
Maryland State Police Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 16, 2008

CHILD CRITICALLY INJURED BY SEAT BELT STRAP

(College Park, MD) – Maryland State Police are continuing their investigation into the critical injury of a child last night who apparently became entangled in a seat belt strap while his mother was driving on I-95 in Prince George's County.

The injured child is identified as DeAndre Harris, who is five-years-old. Harris is in critical condition at Children's Hospital.

Just before 6:00 p.m. yesterday, Maryland State Police at the College Park Barracks received a call from a Prince George's County 9-1-1 dispatcher. The dispatcher advised a call had been received from a hysterical woman who said her child had a seat belt wrapped around his neck and she needed help. She gave a description of her vehicle and said she was in the area of southbound I-95 at I-495.

A trooper was immediately dispatched and found the vehicle five minutes after the call was received. The trooper saw the child in the left rear seat of the 2005 Honda CR-V, with the seat belt wrapped around his neck. The trooper cut the seat belt loose from the vehicle and removed it from the child's neck.

The child was not breathing and the trooper immediately started rescue breathing. A member of the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department stopped and assisted the trooper with CPR until EMS units arrived. The child was transported by ambulance to Laurel Hospital and later flown to Children's Hospital.

State Police investigators conducted numerous interviews last night with the victim's mother, Yuko Harris, 38, of Baltimore, and other relatives. Initial scene processing was also conducted. The car, which belonged to the victim's uncle, was secured at the College Park Barracks and will be processed by crime scene technicians today.

There is no clear evidence of foul play at this time. It is unknown exactly how the child became entangled in the seat belt. It is not clear if the victim was secured by the seat belt when he became entangled in the seat belt shoulder strap. A two-year-old boy, believed to be the victim's brother, was in a booster seat in the right rear of the vehicle. State Police investigators at the College Park Barracks are continuing their investigation.

Tragic and Disturbing Rescue on the Interstate

Several volunteer and career members of the Prince George's County Fire/Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department are under going Critical Incident Stress Debriefing this evening after handling an incident involving a young child. Just before 6:00 PM, Monday, December 15, 2008, Firefighter/Medics from Calverton, Branchville and College Park were alerted to a 911 report of a child in cardiac/respiratory arrest after his family vehicle seat belt became tight around his upper body. The 5-year-old male victim was accompanied by his mother and another younger child who was secured in a child safety seat on the rear seat. The affected child was positioned on a booster on the back seat directly behind the driver.

Firefighter/Medics and the Maryland State Police arrived on the shoulder of North-Bound Interstate 95 near the Powder Mill Road exit in Beltsville. For unknown reasons, the seat belt became so tight around the child's upper body, it caused the child to suffocate and stop breathing.

Upon arrival, first responders were unable to release the seat belt and had to cut the straps to free the child. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation was immediately initiated and advanced life support was started upon the paramedic's arrival. The 5-year-old male was immediately transported to a local hospital. Paramedics were successful in obtaining a pulse prior to the arrival at the hospital; however, the patient remains in critical condition.

The Maryland State Police (College Park) are conducting an investigation into this incident.

Accident On Rt. 54

A loaded Propane Truck has turned over on Rt. 54 and Rum Ridge. Simpson's Towing is on the scene and it is recommended people find another alternative route for a while. The accident happened around 40 minutes ago.

Bay Bridge Accident

The widow of the truck driver killed on the Bay Bridge in August just found out yesterday that Candy Baldwin (the teenager that caused the accident) is only being charged with the following:

(1) Negligent Driving
(2) Failure to Stay Right of Center
(3) Violation of a License Restriction (alcohol)

The top two are only fines that can be paid. The bottom one is a court appearance but still mainly just a slap on the wrist.

John's wife is devastated feeling there is no justice being served with these charges. They can not charge her with anything more severe because her blood alcohol level was not tested until several hours after the accident. When tested she showed a trace amount of alcohol, but not enough to be charged for DUI, DWI, etc....

County Council Drops Amusement Taxes On Youth Sports At The Crown

"It wasn't a victory, it was the right thing to do for the children. I'm very thankful."

From what I understand, and let's make this VERY clear, only the amusement taxes will forever be eliminated on YOUTH SPORTS.

They will have to pay back taxes but I believe the penalties and interest will be dropped.

Congratulations Wicomico County Council Members!!!!! This was the right thing to do for the children. It's a Merry Christmas for those under 18 years old.

Found Dog Will Reunite With Their Owner!!!!!!!

"The dog will be reunited with its owner today, hopefully. He was listed at the H. S. as missing. We took him down just a while ago and found out he lived on Philllip Morris Dr. We also found out his name is "Lucky". Having traveled from his home, down Mt. Hermon Rd & onto S. Kaywood Dr., everyone at the H. Society, along with us agreed the name was very appropiate ! Edna & Jim Walls"

It's a beautiful day, isn't it.

78,836 Comments & Growing

That's Right, Salisbury News, (while on Blogger) has reached 78,836 comments in under two years. OK Michael, that's influential! SBYNEWS.COM was on a different server for more than a year but I think these numbers are just incredible.

You can challenge us all day long as to just how well received we are, the numbers don't lie. Also, if you were ever worried about being discovered and afraid to post a comment, you have nothing to worry about here on Blogger. No one can tell who you are and Blogger even refuses to give the FEDS that information.

Almost 80,000 others haven't had a problem with it, neither should you. In order to get the word out there about how everyone feels about local politics, your input is vital. If you like Comegys, say so, you'll get published.

To think the first year we were on line, we were NOTHING compared to today. The middle year we were somewhere else but this past year, WOW! Thanks for the support Ladies & Gentlemen. We've all come a long way and we still have a long way to go but together we're getting there and together we're making a positive difference.

Remember ALL of the names I said needed to go? Well, don't YOU find it interesting how just those people are gone and or leaving and the rest won't have a job after the Mayor is gone. That's influential Michael.

Inauguration Requirements By The WCBOE

"Joe:

I have heard that the WCBOE has required all elementary schools to view the inauguration this year. Surprising that when my first child was in elementary school 8 years ago, they did not watch it.

It makes me wonder if race is playing a part. Since it is not a part of the MD state standards, I wonder what would happen if parents refused.

I appreciate any insight you or your readers can give."

For what it's worth, this is a monumental event and of course it has to do with race. It's history in the making.Heck, I can remember being a kid and being forced to watch eclipse's in 3rd grade. Who knows, maybe we're going back to the "old school" way of life, which ain't a bad thing in my opinion.

Summary Of Life

GREAT TRUTHS THAT LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED:

1) No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats.

2) When your mom is mad at your dad, don't let her brush your hair.

3) If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the second person

4) Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato.

5) You can't trust dogs to watch your food.

6) Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair.

7) Never hold a dust-buster and a cat at the same time.

8) You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.

9) Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts.

10) The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap.

GREAT TRUTHS THAT ADULTS HAVE LEARNED:

1) Raising teenagers is like nailing jelly to a tree.

2) Wrinkles don't hurt.

3) Families are like fudge...mostly sweet, with a few nuts

4) Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.

5) Laughing is good exercise. It's like jogging on the inside.

6) Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fibre, not the toy.

GREAT TRUTH S ABOUT GROWING OLD:

1) Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional.

2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.

3) When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you're down there.

4) You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster.

5) It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions.

6) Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.

7) Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.

THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE:

1 -- You believe in Santa Claus.

2 -- You don't believe in Santa Claus.

3 -- You are Santa Claus.

4 -- You look like Santa Claus.

A Viewer Sends This In To Salisbury News.......

"Joe,

I just wanted to let you know that Paul Douglas Dunford, Owner & Operator of Salisbury based "Paul D.'s Taxi" is wanted by the Wicomico County Sheriff's Department for Assault.

A couple of weeks ago Paul Douglas Dunford assaulted a female by hurling bodily waste at her.

Paul Douglas Dunford is a caucasian male, about 6' 2'', 220 pounds, usually wears a baseball cap and has a mustache.

Paul D.'s Taxi uses one vehicle for their operations it's a green minivan, it's plainly lettered.

I would consider Paul Dunford dangerous, and extremely confrontational.

Thanks."

This won't take long.

A Festivus, For The Rest Of Us

Festivus, For The Rest Of Us.

Many Christmas's ago, Frank Costanza went to buy a doll for George.
There was only one doll left and as he reached for it, so did another man.
After struggling for the doll, he thought there could be another way.
The doll was destroyed, but out of that, a new holiday was born.
It was called Festivus. A Festivus for the Rest of Us.

The Airing of Grievances:

At the Festivus dinner, you gather your family around and tell them all the ways they have disappointed you over the last year.

A Comment About The Daily Times Worthy Of A Post

"Tighlman went downhill from day one.

The Times wrote: "In her first days in office, she dismissed an iconic police chief whom she believed to be corrupt."

This is total slander against a dedicated public servant.

Colburn Dykes was never indicted or convicted of any crime.

If the Times had any journalistic standards it would have asked Tighlman to put up her proof or shut up.

How much money did she cost the city settling the chief's lawsuit?

And it was all downhill from there."

Now how can you argue that comment. The Daily Times bashes the Nasty Bloggers regularly but grows a pair when they know the person is dead and can't do anything about it.

Westside Fire Hall Rescues Annual Christmas Dinner

(Salisbury, MD) The Westside Community is invited to join Wicomico Recreation, Parks and Tourism for its annual Christmas Dinner on Thursday, December 18 at the Westside Fire Hall in Bivalve, Maryland from 6:00pm-8:00pm. This holiday tradition, initiated by the Westside Lions Club 32 years ago, is free and open to the entire community. Along with local churches, the Lion’s Club plays a continued role in the dinner by providing turkey and hams. Community guests are invited to bring a covered dish to share.

This year’s dinner was put in jeopardy when the furnace at the Westside Community Center broke last week. Unable to install a replacement in time, the Westside Community Center was forced to consider cancelling the holiday tradition. However, this year’s dinner was saved by leaders of the Westside Fire Hall. Embracing the holiday spirit, Fire Hall leaders graciously agreed to open their doors for the Annual Christmas Dinner and thus allow the holiday tradition to continue.

The Annual Community Christmas Dinner is a long-standing tradition for the Westside Community. It began when the Westside Lion's Club originally owned the Westside Community Center, and the tradition has continued with Wicomico County Recreation, Parks and Tourism. It continues to be an evening of great food and community fellowship. Santa Claus even makes a special appearance distributing candy and homemade toys made by the Delmarva Woodworkers.

For more information call Joy Klauder at 410-873-2993 or email westside@wicomicocounty.org.

PAC-14 in the Dock Again

At today's Wicomico County Council meeting PAC-14 is again up for discussion during the work session.  I can only hope that some progress is made in this matter.  Unfortunately, I'm not too optimistic.

As was noted after the council's last meeting, Councilwoman Stevie Prettyman has made an excellent proposal.  A very modest PEG fee would be assessed to Comcast subscribers which would be used to partially fund PAC-14.  PAC-14 would incorporate as a 501c-3 non-profit with an independent board.  PAC-14 would enter into a contract (a "memorandum of understanding") with the county (and hopefully the city of Salisbury) which would require, among other things, to carry all council meetings, Planning Commission hearings, etc.  PAC-14 could then raise all the money they said they could raise IF ONLY they were "independent".

Why am I not optimistic?  Well, it seems that the so-called "Friends of PAC-14" have been trying to play both sides against the middle on this one.  This little group with the likes of former councilman Phil Tilghman, former PAC-14 chair Dana Seiler (who quit after one meeting), and ace lefty activist Mike Pretl (along with the Daily Times) have been trying to sell the public a bill of goods.

First, we had the Daily Times prime the pump and imply that local government was somehow "trying to take over PAC-14".  Inaccurate, but that's not unusual for our local paper.

This was followed by Mike Pretle and a few others promoting a petition:  Read More ...
