Bell Ringing Today
First of al I'd like to thank Pam and Scott for helping out yesterday at WalMart.
We have two slots open today to ring the bell for the Salvation Army. There's a one hour slot from 1 pm to 2 pm and another slot open at WalMart from 2 pm to 4 pm.
Anyone interested in filling either one of these slots please contact me at alberobutzo@wmconect.com or 410-430-5349. You can also reach the Salvation Army at 410-749-7771 ext. 100.
For what it's worth Folks, I'm coming down with the bug that's been going around and quite frankly it stinks.
Wednesday we have two slots open at the WalMart Grocery location. We have from 11 am to 1 pm and then from 3 pm to 4 pm.
Thursday is a really big day in which I'm looking for help. We have one open slot at Sam's Club from 9 am to 2 pm. Of course, it can be broken up any way it works for those interested in filling in.
Any help anyone can give us this week would be greatly appreciated. Have a great day.
Get the local politicians out ringing the bell, they aren't doing anything else.
ReplyDeleteDebbie Campbell had been at Sam's Club several times ringing the bell. As a matter of fact, last Friday one of the bell ringers wasn't feeling well and had to leave. I was on my way to Ocean City when the Salvation Army called me to gtel me about it. I immediately called Debbie Campbel and the first thing out of her mouth was, Piggy, (her dog) & I will be there in a few minutes. You wonder why I respect this woman as much as I do. Jim Ireton, Gary Comegys have NOT signed up to ring the bell, anywhere. Now of course now that this is mentioned they'll do so but that's a fact. I have asked Jim by texting him if he would do so but I have not received a reply. Comegys is probably asleep in his yellow SHA vehicle in the grave yard.
ReplyDeleteI did however hear that Barrie Tilghman has signed up to ring the bell, thank you Barrie, seriously. If I truly didn't appreciate it I would have simply left that out.
Sam's Club and North WalMart are the two most popular locations, yet no one in the political arena are willing to do their part other than Debbie. Piggie was a HUGE hit by the Sam's Club Customers too.
Debbie Campbell was ringing the bell at Sam's Club last weekend with her little dog dressed as a reindeer. I couldn't resist making another contribution. Thank you to all the volunteers. The bell stations seem to be busy, the ringers enthusiastic, and people are supporting the Salvation Army in a big way during very tough times.
ReplyDeleteThe "rumored" mayoral candidate Bob Caldwell has been ringing the bell at the south Wal-mart.
ReplyDeleteJoe, Debbie Campbell is just amazing, no doubt.
ReplyDeleteBut with all due respect, I can't condemn the politicians who aren't out there. Or anyone else. We just never know what's going on in someone else's lives.
What I know of Jim Ireton is he gives all day long to the children of Wicomico County as a teacher, and then is out every night at some meeting or more than one in one night.
I saw Terry Cohen a couple of days ago and her whole family and she have been battling illness for nearly a month. (Guess that's what ya get for having kids, LOL! I remember those days!) She also cares for an ailing mother. (I've "been there, done that," and it is truly time and energy consuming.)
So we just never know. Have you called Louise or Shanie or Gary? Or do you just bug the nice ones like Ireton? (j/k!) What about the county council people? How about Delmar folks running their town?
At this point, if politicians were to do it, my bet is someone will say their just doing it to get votes.
Thanks for all you do. But let's not condemn people for what we don't see them doing. In the spirit of the holiday, everyone should be given the benefit of the doubt...even the ones we don't like.
Joe, is there an updated schedule for bell ringing? If dressing a dog up will get more donations, my dog will be dressed as the cutest reindeer ever! Please post a schedule so I can sign up!
ReplyDeleteI think Debbie Cambell is great i think she will be outstanding at whatever she sets her mind to do. Hey isn't that the Big Guys dad. Glad to see he is feeling well. God Bless Have A Merry Christmas !!! Joe Keep up the good work it all comes back 10 fold in various ways of your life. Granddad you could have gotten a vasectomy, but i guess the glasses will work. Haaaaaa Merry Christmas Dude !!
ReplyDeleteA new schedule should be up this evening.
ReplyDeleteAs for me going after other politicians, I don't believe I've done that. I can cetrainly understand the position of having children, sick Mother and the whole nine yards.
I'll remind you, I'm heading out the door right now with a fever and not feeling too strong but you know what, I'd rather be out there doing something constructive and supportive than sitting around making excuses. I'm just of a different upringing. See you at Sam's and WalMart Folks.

ReplyDeleteAnon 1202 only in a small mind would the belief live that someone was out doing charity work to gain votes. How dare you suggest any politician braving the elements to raise money for charity would be doing so for votes.
A few weeks ago I saw Stevie Prettyman ringing the bell, she is not up for reelection. I've seen Mike Lewis posted right here on this blog ringing the bell at Sams Club. I've seen Mike Lewis and Jim Perdue, please tell me what Jim Perdue has to gain by giving of himself? I've seen Mike Lewis's wife, daughter, father and mother all ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. I've seen Rick Pollitt ringing the bell in Fruitland. None of these people are trying to gain votes, they are giving of themselves to help others. It's stated right here on this blog that Debbie Campbell filled in at a last minute to help when someone couldn't. Debbie is a selfless person, it wouldn't matter if she were up for reelection or not, she would give of herself as she always does. Bob Caldwell, a former council president has been down in Fruitland ringing the bell for the Optimist Club, not for votes as you might think.
In the spirit of the holiday, is why these people give their time so that others that might fall upon hard times have somewhere to go, someone to provide assistance. If I didn't know better I would say that you are none other than Terry Cohen making a comment such as this. Only she would see an act of giving, in the spirit of the holiday as a way to garner votes. It's not some people that would see this as a way to gain votes, it is you and you alone that is of this mindset.
Anon 1:10,
ReplyDeleteYou are naive. People have multiple motives for doing charity work--what is so bad about that? Some do it for religious reasons, some for political, some because they want to pay back their community, some want to make their business look good, some out of a mixture of all of these things! Who cares? To suggest that the politicians out there ringing the bell aren't at least partially motivated by politics is just silly. If they are a good politician, everything they do is somehow connected to politics.
Since when is ringing a Salvation Army bell the gold standard of a politician's worth? Perhaps some of those folks are too busy. Joe, you have the luxury of being able to drop everything and go ring bells 8 hours at a stretch. Not everyone does. While I admire what you're doing, I think you're being a bit unreasonable.

Ba humbugg to you.
Where is your Holiday Spirit?
Why would you single out Terry Cohen? Someone who has given selflessly for the betterment of this community. She along with many others.
Can't we just assume that all the bellringers out there, whether they are well known or not, are out there because they want to be --with no ulterior motives---and those that are not may be giving of themselves in another way.
Perhaps some put some money in the kettle, for example.
Have a wonderful Holiday, and may ye reap what ye sow.

well if it is a political issue i would love to see Mike lewis' father run for council. I have allways had a great deal of respect for this man. I know he may not be interested, but he has integrity and courage. I think he would represent these paper lions that have weaseled they way in. Just food for thought. I think there are some true and good people here on the shore that dont have a hidden agenda. i would love to see someone in the coucil that has that need to do right by all those of this county. Joe great post keep up the great work. To all you nay sayers go ring the bell for a few hours it will do your heart good. To the lewis family thank you for giving of yourselves at such a busy time of year, you to joe.
ReplyDeleteOpen slot for tonight at Walmart Fruitland retail end is open to anyone that cares to ring 7PM to 9PM. If you have time to nit pick the good things people are doing, go on down there and ring the bell. The smiles alone are worth it. Where's Gary and Shanie? Crying in their beer?
ReplyDeleteIt's not about votes, it's about community spirit and working together for people that are unfortunate at this time or any time of year. It's about building real bridges, not the kind that disappear after an election like unkept promises to police and firefighters.
Anonymous 2:01, I never once said anything about ANY ONE ringing a bell for 8 hours. In fact, look at the schedule we keep posting almost daily. There's one hour, two hours and three hour shifts.
ReplyDeleteSo do I believe Gary Comegys and Jim Ireton have the time, you're darned right I do. Jim claims he's not doing it for personal reasons. Wel, someone better get a much stronger back bone than that if he wants to become Mayor.
Comegys, well, ringing a bell is far more labor intensive than riding around with the heat on using taxpayers gas in a taxpayers yellow SHA vehicle. There's not enough attention for Mr. Comegys to fill in a slot or two.
I stated those who HAVE volunteered, even at the last minute.
You know, there are many, many ways to serve the community. Ringing a bell is ONE way, it is not the only way. I stood out in the cold and rang the bell, but how silly is it becoming if we decide that this is the only way to demonstrate good will in the community? This is getting out of control. Who is anyone here to judge others for their charitable acts? Who is to decide which ones are good enough? Leave it alone. If this is how you choose to contribute, good for you. If not, find another way. Jeepers!
ReplyDeleteI don't want my picture taken doing bell ringing. The Secret Santa kind of game. I even make it hard for people to recognize me, they will just call me Joe's follower's. I'm glad that I was made aware of the situation and have been able to help. It is much better to give and anonyously make's it even more fun. Nobody has to thank me, thank the good people of the Salvation Army that have worked sick and are overworked right now but do so with a huge smile on their face.
ReplyDeleteDon't you have a Jim Ireton for Mayor sign in your window? way to support your candidate joe.
ReplyDeleteYou're right there are many ways to help, for me ringing the bell is just one way. I could hardly say I was working for my community by just ringing a bell a couple hours a day a few days a week.
ReplyDeleteIf it were any of your or anyone elses business I'd beat the drum for other things that I do, however that's not why I do what I'm doing.
Have you ever made a huge stocking filled with basic neccessities, socks, soap, tissue among other things and left if for a needy person who has not a clue who did it? If you haven't you've totally missed the spirit of Christmas your whole life. Enjoy your Wii or X-Box that could feed a family for a month. Go catch some air stupid.
