How Much Money Can the Salisbury Zoo Waste?

It seems that the people who run the Salisbury Zoo - and some of their employees - think that taxpayers exist solely to fund their wasteful ways. As many of you already know, the Zoo hosted a tent (next door to the Barrie Tilghman Disco and Party facility) at this year's J. Millard Tawes Crab and Clam Bake.

Of course we'll probably never know HOW MUCH of the taxpayers' money was flushed by both the city of Salisbury and the Zoo on this little soirée. However, hanging around did yield some interesting insight.

Linda Weiner, who I believe is a zoo employee member of the Zoo Commission, was overheard making the following comment:
"I just don't understand why some people on the (Salisbury) city council feel that they have any say over what we do."
Well Ms. Weiner, that's the price you pay for taking the taxpayers' money. If you don't want any oversight from the Salisbury government - Lord knows there isn't enough - then I have a remedy.

The Salisbury Zoo Commission can refuse future funding from the taxpayer. They can come up with a plan to self-fund the zoo. They can also negotiate with the city to purchase the land currently occupied by the zoo (at market rates, of course).

The zoo is a non-profit, therefore they would continue to receive the subsidy of taxpayers by not paying property taxes to the city, county and state. That should be subsidy enough.

Of course this is never going to happen. Perhaps it shouldn't. However, just because Ron Alessi is a member of the Zoo Commission doesn't meant that the Zoo should waste as much of the taxpayers' money as they do over at the Wicomico County Liquor Control Board.

Burglars Posing As Sales People To Case Neighborhoods

Montgomery County (web|news) police urged residents Friday to look out for thieves posing as door-to-door sales people who may be casing your home for a burglary.

GO HERE to see the entire WJLA News article.

I'd say Salisbury News is catching on and the MSM is like toilet paper wiping up the rear.

Mayor's 911 Call Yesterday

From the SPD log online, it looks like the call to Monitor Court was a false burglar alarm issue. Wasn't Gary home at the time? lol

Google Sheriff Mike Lewis & Look What You Get

It probably doesn't matter what you Google here on the Eastern Shore, the volume of hits Salisbury News gets has thrown the Daily Times into page 1,000 plus, LOL.

I'll bet the Sheriff is now thinking, I better be nice to that Albero guy because if he has something bad to say about me, the World is going to know about it. LOL

Bigotry & Horrendous Acts?

I am reaching out to people that may find the following disturbing enough to get involved.

Here is one quote "Anytime the town has to have guards at the door to protect the perverts, that's not something for Middletown," Kelly said. "I'm disgusted with it." - this is in regards to Sandra Bernhard and John Waters performing at the festival - Kelly is on the Town's council

Please take the time to read this article from the front page of Mondays
News Journal http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080714/NEWS/8 07140337 or HERE.

At this time we have nowhere to put both performers and we have been told we cannot have them perform where we originally intended. The event is less than three weeks away.

Concept behind Unicity

The idea behind the Unicity Festival is to bring people together through the diversity of performing artists. So often you hear that you can only see certain types of artists in large cities throughout the country. We have been told recently that Main Street America is not interested in having diversity in their towns. We are testing that theory for the first time with the Unicity Performing Arts Festival
taking place on August 2nd 2008. The goal is to add a town every year until we have one day a year where towns across America unite and get to enjoy a variety of artists. We also hope to infuse small towns with revenue from the festival and a portion of each festival is given to a charity. This years event will benefit The Boys & Girls Club of America.

The Challenge

We are asking that if you believe in the concept and think it is a positive goal to attempt to reach, that you purchase a $15.00 limited access ticket to the event to support it even if you are unable to attend. If you will be attending you can purchase a regular ticket. If you will not be attending and want your ticket donated you can purchase an angel pass. All angel passes will be given away to local charities. All purchases will remain secure and anonymous.

If you do not believe this is a good idea then do nothing. Our goal is to find out if you support the concept. For a direct link to the Angel Pass Click here

Any support would be greatly appreciated.

Even The City Of Salisbury Is Bowing Out Of The Daily Times

Found in this weeks GUIDE, the City of Salisbury is advertising for a position at the WWTP. Now, could it be they don't want the current person in that position knowing about it? Is it legal for them to advertise in a non Newspaper? They could have advertised in the Daily Times and not received any replies? Nevertheless, the City is now spreading their money outside of the Daily Times and looking at other means to reach people, perhaps clueless and mainly in Delaware. What the City doesn't realize is that the Guide is mainly distributed in Delaware and not Wicomico County. It should also be noted that the position they're looking to fill requires a Maryland Driver's Licence.

Dear Mr. Pick: If you want some real results, advertise with Salisbury News. We get more hits than any one of them.

Race Horse Dies At Finish Line At Ocean Downs Last Night

6-28 race 7.jpg>> 4 year-old stallion Presidential Sam crosses the finish line at Ocean Downs Saturday, June 28 to win the third leg of the "Bud Light Pace" stakes series. The driver is Ray "Shorty" Robinson, Jr. Photo by Best Bet Photos

There were two serious situations last night at the 60 year old Ocean Downs Race Track. In the 7th race, one horse broke stride during the race and ran into another driver, W. David Hill III from Salisbury Maryland. David was rushed to the Hospital but later called back to the Track to let everyone know he was going to be OK.

Later in the 11th Race a 13 YO Gelding, "Pretty Serious" driven by Mickey Golden died at the Finish Line.

David Hill had his own Horse in a later race that he raised, trained, owns and rides was entered into a race but obviously he could not do so. Driver Ray Robinson Jr. took his place driving "Preview The Dream" and WON the Michelob Light Stakes Race. I'm sure that made David feel really good while he was in the Hospital.

On another note, Rosecroft Race Track has closed their doors and Ocean Downs has been rated one of the Top 10 Race Tracks in America. Because Rosecroft closed, the quality of Drivers, Horses and Trainers has gone over the to at Ocean Downs. Should they add Slots, that Track will be in the Top 5 easily. The summer traffic they get is just unbelievable. We'll be posting more information about Ocean Downs in the future.

Apparently People Aren't Happy

These shirts were made by a gentleman named Vincent Kelley who owns a graphic design business out of Pasadena Md. called FT Graphics. Judging by these shirts people are starting to wear coupled by the road signs on the way to Tawes Crab Feast, people are getting the message about who is running the state, how bad they are running the State, and what will happen if more individuals like O'Malley get elected.

You don't see shirts saying "O'Malley you're doing a helluva job" or "Bob Ehrlich who?" Nope, you see shirts like this or bumper stickers popping up on cars that says "Don't blame me, I voted for Ehrlich"

The Dark Knight, A Must See!

This morning my highly anticipating friends and I went to see the Dark Knight at 12:01 and it did not disappoint.

Christian Bale reprised his role as the tangled hero struggling to find himself and make the decisions a hero must to save Gotham City from the Joker played by the late Heath Ledger. The new Batman series directed by Christopher Nolan, who has directed Bale in other movies, are much darker and sinister than it's predecessors in the 90's. Give Ledger an Oscar now because his embodiment of the Joker is reason enough to see the movie; it seemed that the dark nature of the Joker character was his own.

I'm not going to spoil the movie for anyone, but I recommend this movie to be seen because it is a complete package. I don't see many movies in the theatre, let alone on opening day, but this was well worth the wait. The movie is 152 minutes long.

Tawes Crab & Clam Bake Brings In More Than $800,000.00!

Not too shabby for a 3 1/2 hour long event! That being said, why hasn't Wicomico County/Salisbury come up with a way to hold their very own event like this, perhaps named after a former Mayor, Sheriff or even former Salisbury Police Chief?

I'm starting to like this idea.

Today's Daily Times Is Old Salisbury News

I don't care what section you look at today, it's old news. Heck, I'm not even going to take the time to go back and see how many days ago Salisbury News posted the pictures of the arson fires and story, (I even stated they'd tell you it was 9 arson's when in reality it's 10). We reported the David Cox story 2 DAYS AGO, front page news for the Times today as well. Again, the Princess Anne water story, (also front page news)K was told here days ago as well. I'm one guy with 9 contributors. They have a Staff of around 200. You pay for their paper, we're FREE!

In the Delmarva Section today they're just getting around to the Salvia story we posted what, 6 months ago? The only story they out scooped me on was the story about the results from the Audit at the Landfill. WHY? Because they screamed and yelled at the County Executives Office that THEY needed that story, so they sent it to the Daily Times first because they asked for it.

Now do I think that's fair? No. However, I believe the County Executive has to be feeling sorry, (to make such a decision) for the Daily Times because they're losing so much ground any more?

Nevertheless, the Daily Times is asking people to pay for news and information they've been getting for free here days in advance. I think it's a pitiful way to run a business and they should be ashamed of themselves. You haven't heard anything about the gentleman being fired from the City and you haven't heard of them investigating the REVENUES the City has been bringing in recently since this guy was doing such a great job and the numbers went up. You all know the reason this guy is no longer there is because the Mayor is trying to increase parking rates and this guy is making her look bad because it's completely unnecessary. She'll screw the taxpayers any way she can, just like last years Water & Sewer rate increase that Debbie Campbell brought down and over $8,000,00.00 in surplus that just happened to be floating around!

Anything for a Buck, right Daily Times and Barrie Tilghman? Do some real work for once and investigate that story. You know I'm right.

Who's The Designated Driver & What Vehicle Was Used That Day??

While everyone enjoyed the Tawes Crab and Clam Bake yesterday, some chose to continue having a good time after the event by heading over to the Tiki Bar nearby. The every notorious Salisbury Police Chief Alan Webster is seen here enjoying another cocktail, (which he has every right) and each person he seems to be with is also enjoying a cocktail. So, who was the designated driver then? Others are desperately wondering what vehicle was being used that evening as well?

Oh Chief, since I know you and your people constantly checking this Website, I didn't take the pictures. Touche!

Would Gary Show Himself In Public Like This?

Would you Vote for him if he did? Would you watch PAC 14 if he did? Would you bring your children to see him?

Sheriff Lewis Responds, What To Do If You're Pulled Over By An Unmarked Vehicle

Hey Joe,

I'm following this Cox story and I have a question for you and anyone capable of answering. Ages ago when I lived near Baltimore, there was a similar story of a man who used a mock police car and would pull women over and rape them on desolate roadways. This always led me to wonder...... What is the best thing to do if you're being pulled over by an unmarked cruiser? If this guy really means it when he says he knows of other people impersonating officers with what looks like (to an untrained eye) genuine identification, what do we do if an unmarked vehicle attempts to pull us (as in smaller, unprotected women with children in the car) over?

Angela

Angela-

Thank you for writing. If someone driving an unmarked police car attempts to pull you over for any reason, before you yield to the "emergency vehicle" and pull over, please consider the following;

Is the driver of the vehicle in uniform?
Am I committing or did I just commit an obvious traffic violation?
Am I in a well-traveled area or a well-lighted area?
Does the Emergency vehicle have any blue lights?

If the driver of the vehicle is obviously in uniform, whether it's an MSP uniform or some type of police uniform, and the vehicle displays blue lights of any kind, and you're being stopped on a well traveled roadway, and you now realize that you were speeding or you're not wearing your seatbelt, it's likely a legitimate police officer.

However, if you are uncomfortable or uncertain, you can dial 911 and ascertain if the vehicle attempting to stop you is legitimate. You should activate your hazard lights and proceed to a well lit area if this occurs during the hours of darkness. This is not a free pass for male violators to disregard an emergency/police vehicle because they weren't sure it was a "cop".

Any sheriff's Deputy or Maryland State Trooper is required to produce an identification card and/or a badge while off-duty, and they must be armed while operating an off-duty vehicle. If you are stopped, identification must be produced by the Deputy/Trooper, and if they aren't in uniform, you may request the presence of a uniformed police officer or a supervisor to respond to the scene.

If you are stopped for a violation, Deputies should be documenting every traffic stop with a citation, warning or a safety equipment repair order. Each traffic stop is called in to dispatch and documented electronically in our CADS system.

Angela-If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to call or contact me via email.

PRMC 30 Minute Promise?????

"Hey Joe,

My son went to the emergency room at the hospital today around 3 pm for a sharp abdominal pain. I must admit after taking the tour of the new emergency room, prior to there opening, I was very impressed, not only in the facility but the new way of triaging patients, so as to get them in and out rapidly, with little or not much of a wait. I found out today the meaning of not much of a wait is approximately 5 hours. I assume on a 95 + degree day, that they figure you would not mind waiting that long so as to allow you to cool off at their expense. Anyway, I am sure this is not the only case of waiting, but the best part was when they said he might want to leave and go to his primary doctor. Someway to run a business HUH?"

What's Wrong With This Picture?

Absolutely Nothing! It's GREAT to see everyone getting along. For far too long politicians have been too black and white. You know, if you're a Republican, how dare you go to a democratic booth, right? WRONG!

As I explained to several people yesterday, most of my Friends are Democrats. I also expressed how I personally like Frank Kratovill, I just don't think he's qualified for the job. Especially when this State and Country has the opportunity at this time to put in a true experienced professional in Andy Harris.

Nevertheless, it doesn't have to be War. I will say however, I went up to Frank when he first walked in and introduced myself, (just in case he hadn't remembered me from the Forums) and I got the cold shoulder. That's OK, I divorced one just like him many years ago. Attorneys are, or should I say, can be very sore losers. I won't hold it against you Frank. Oh, by the way, Frank is a big follower of Salisbury News, especially his Staff. Hi Guys/Gals! It was great seeing everyone yesterday.

I'll close with, everything sent to me about Frank Kratovill I have produced on this Blog. Oh, if any of the Staff want to send me anything more they can forward it to me directly at billduvall@alzheimers.com .

"Wild" Life By Delmar

Joe,

My wife and I followed this guy from over Leonards Lake Wednesday night. He landed at Bennett Airport. He has some sort of motor strapped on his back. This is "Wild" Life for sure! Sorry about the picture quality, but all I had was my cell phone!

Richard

Have YOU seen "Wall*E " yet ????

The megahit Disney-Pixar film "Wall*E" is still playing in theaters nationwide as well as on the Shore and as a parent who saw it during opening weekend, I must say I fell in love with it.It was not only a brilliant childrens movie,it was an action flick,a family movie and a love story with a little sci-fi tossed in.And there was a somber moral to the story(line) about the shape of our world and how everything we do impacts it.
Alot of us apparently have seen it, as it opened at number one and the audience was equally divided between adult and children, and male and female.
Despite having very little human dialogue, and only one actor appearing in live action(Fred Willard),you do not lose interest or feel the plot running out of steam. The variety of futuristic robots tailored to specific jobs is mind boggling and I just adore the little "rogue" vacuum cleaner robot that constantly follows any trail of dirt and clips along like todays ROOMBA,only hovering a foot above the floor!
If your kids or grandkids are bugging you about going to see the movies this weekend and you have not already seen this-GO!
