Be prepared for long lines at MVA due to Real ID requirements

GLEN BURNIE, Md. —Long waits at the Motor Vehicle Administration are getting even longer because of the Real ID requirements.

The Real ID Act takes effect in October 2020 and was created after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. It requires people to provide more documentation when getting their IDs.

The lines are long and patience is running thin at the Glen Burnie MVA office, especially for people waiting to renew their driver's licenses and get the Real ID.

"I got here about 11:30. Time now is 1:30. They told us it would be probably about three or four hours' wait time," said Ernie Palacios, an MVA customer.

  1. Why do we need this, you don't need to prove who you are to vote?

  2. Are they letting illegals to get a Drivers License? Are they purging the illegals from the registered voter list? Illegals have none of these requirements unless they are fake.

  3. But if you are an illegal immigrant you get to move to the head of the line. How can these states issue a drivers license to illegals and still be in compliance with the 'Real ID' Mandate? I believe if a state issues licenses to illegals with no proof such as I am required to show then federal highway funds need to be withheld until they quit and void all illegal alien licenses for non-compliance with the mandate!

  4. And, yet, illegal aliens can get free education in Maryland. WTF?

  5. I was at the Salisbury DMV for a license renewal day before yesterday at about 1:30. There were more than two dozen people in line when I arrived, but they had it moving along pretty quickly. I left there at 2:40.

This is for drivers license renewal, not whatever the heck you"re blathering on about. Given the illegals situation, I have no problem with it. It is a federal mandate, Real ID. It took a few minutes to gather the requested items, & was in & out of MVA in under an hour total. Kudos to the MVA, as there were a lot of people that day. Oh, & pfffft to the rude person being a jerk to the employee that was helping another customer at the machine. Being a jerk isn't helping a thing. The check-in line was moving well, not as if you'd been there very long.

  12. FYI - if you got a "real ID" in 2017 or 2018, you may not really. Your license is identical to what is being issued now with the extra documentation required. However, in 2017 & 2018, they were issuing these licenses without the extra documentation.

The thing that bothers me, is I already provided this information. When I got my first driver's license (year's ago), I had to provide my birth certificate to validate my age. I moved, I had to provide an electric bill. When I got married, I had to provide my marriage license with my new name. All this documentation has been shown already.

You are NO safer with this than before.

A few minutes? How about a few months.
I am not sure what you are blathering on about but I was in and out in 2+ hours because there were so many people there and even the people that work there were saying what a hassle this has turned into.

what flavor kookaid you drinking today?

they just keep chipping away at our rights and freedoms and you have your hand up volunteering. I am sure you will be one of the first to get the mark of the devil.

    1. 4:02...let me correct you. Driving is not a RIGHT it’s a PRIVILEGE. Check the law. Your PRIVILEGE can be revoked at any time. No one is “chipping away at your rights”.

    2. Can you tell us why driving is a privilege and not a right 5:34. Is it just because that is what you were told? If someone can buy a vehicle, they should have the right to drive it

    3. 9:58- I agree with 5:34. You're just plain wrong. You can buy 100 vehicles. Doesn't give you the "right" to drive them. It is simple. You drive drunk, you lose that privilege. You break the law, you still have rights. Again, it's just that simple. This is not what I was told. This is what I know as fact. Try not to be an ass with your responses in the future. Especially when you are clearly wrong.

  14. Changing Gov' office. Social security office is just as bad. Social security office made an error in spelling my name. Only 5 characters in my last name - not difficult. Used a "c", vice "k"
I noticed them and was told I would have to fill out a complete new application for a social security card.
I have a card with my correct spelling but all documents I documents from them had it spelled wrong. They made the mistake. It was a typo. Yet I spent 4 hrs at social security in order to get my card corrected. Our government at work - NOT.

thank you for proving my point on just how stupid you are.
you actually think this is just about driving
"show me your papers" does that ring a bell
I suggest instead of commenting stupid on a blog you should spend your time learning history
it is sad idiots like you can vote.
there should be a test for that.

  16. @ March 8,2019 at 3:03PM. They are complaining about having to do this when illegals can walk our streets with no id what so ever. They do not even bother them. But WE are REQUIRED to show up and prove who we are, or be punished for not doing so. Are the illegals expected to show up with their id's to get their license renewed? I don't think so. I have emailed Andy Harris about this and am waiting his response. I am also going to ask the MVA here what they will do when an illegal comes in for a license renewal with no id. My bet is they will not be denied. How's that for blathering, fool?

  17. A lot of people are pissed off about this. They are required to do this yet illegals DRIVE on our streets and do not have to prove who they are. How does one get a drivers license without any documentation? Answer me that MVA.

  18. Seems a bit unfair that a woman has to provide proof of name change-my sister had her birth certificate with obviously her maiden name on it, all other verification needed has her married name (married 25 years), yet they demand a marriage license. Some Femi-Nazi should sue over this--ladies, go get 'em! LOL

  19. 11:29 MVA won't answer that but I will. Md is run by Democrats and they view illegal aliens as potential Democrat voters they don't care that they are illegal, as a matter of fact they don't care about America at all.

  20. Face it, even walking alongside the roadway is a privilege. Walk in the wrong direction, it's a ticket; cross the road the wrong way, it's a ticket; walk in the roadway, it's a ticket.

  21. they wont let you renew if your license doesnt expire within the next 6 months. Mine expires in 2023, wonder how thats going to work.

  22. You people are good little slaves!!!! Think on this, as you wait 4 hours in line to get an ID that is no different that the one you already had!!!! Yet at the same time, MARYLAND lets illegal, undocumented people get ID's, how can they get them with no paper work, yet you have to stand in line for 4 hours with a birth certificate and other junk to prove you were born here and live here...

I guess nothing is ever going to be enough for you dumb asses... At least not to the point of you actually doing something about it...

    ReplyDelete
  23. 8:44- Hey Dumbass, you are no more superior than the rest of us. I also have never spent 4 hours at the DMV. Being an ignorant ass on a Blog is not fulfilling a civic duty, and only makes you more pathetic than people who actually do something. You do nothing but piss about it. How's that for being stupid?
