Deal Island Angler Catches Record Sheepshead

Dave Alveberg Reels in 13.73-pound Fish

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has confirmed a Deal Island resident has set a new state fishing record in the Chesapeake Division for sheepshead.

Dave Alveberg caught the 13.73-pound record breaking fish Aug. 17, in roughly 4 feet of water off South Marsh Island near Tangier Sound.

Intent on catching white perch and rockfish, Alveberg was using soft crab as bait when his line went “haywire.” After a brief struggle he pulled aboard the record sheepshead.

“Seeing something like this on my boat was amazing,” Alveberg said. He plans on getting his sheepshead mounted for display.

The sheepshead’s weight was confirmed by Brent Malone of How Sweet It Is, a market in Somerset County. The catch broke the previous record 13.3-pound fish caught by Dan Thomas in 2016.

Professor calling Harvey ‘karma’ learns the meaning of the word shortly thereafter

The rise of left-wing bias on college campuses has been well documented. Instead of being places where students can approach topics with an open mind, America’s colleges have become more like liberal indoctrination centers. As a result, conservative views have almost become forbidden by default.

For the most part, college administrators have been content to let their faculty spew their propaganda with near impunity. However, one professor in Florida finally took things a bit too far. As most of the country was watching in horror at the events unfolding in Houston, sociology professor Kenneth Storey was busy tweeting. To him, Harvey was “karma,” since Texas had the audacity to vote for Donald Trump.

The Weaponization of History and Journalism

In the United States, facts, an important element of truth, are not important. They are not important in the media, politics, universities, historical explanations, or the courtroom. Non-factual explanations of the collapse of three World Trade Center buildings are served up as the official explanation. Facts have been politicized, emotionalized, weaponized and simply ignored. As David Irving has shown, Anglo-American histories of World War 2 are, for the most part, feel-good histories, as are “civil war” histories as Thomas DiLorenzo and others have demonstrated. Of course, they are feel good only for the victors. Their emotional purpose means that inconvenient facts are unpalatable and ignored.

Writing the truth is no way to succeed as an author. Only a small percentage of readers are interested in the truth. Most want their biases or brainwashing vindicated. They want to read what they already believe. It is comforting, reassuring. When their ignorance is confronted, they become angry. The way to be successful as a writer is to pick a group and give them what they want. There is always a market for romance novels and for histories that uphold a country’s myths. On the Internet successful sites are those that play to one ideology or another, to one emotion or the other, or to one interest group or another. The single rule for success is to confine truth to what the readership group you serve believes.

Keep this in mind when you receive shortly my September quarterly request for your support of this website. There are not many like it. This site does not represent an interest group, an ideology, a hate group, an ethnic group or any cause other than truth. This is not to say that this site is proof against error. It is only to say that truth is its purpose.

Gary Cohn Does Not Regret Trashing President Trump

National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn has no regrets about trashing President Donald Trump’s response to the violence in Charlottesville earlier this month.

According to a report in Politico, Cohn told “associates” that he “didn’t regret one bit having made his comments.” Cohn also reportedly complained loudly about President Trump at a dinner in a Long Island restaurant — loud enough to be overheard by others, according tothe Washington Post.

Cohn, a Democrat, bought into the opposition and media line that the violent Antifa activists who attacked right-wing extremists in Charlottesville were merely “[c]tizens standing up for equality and freedom.”

He has evidently refused to reconsider his views as Antifa proudly claimed credit for the violence and launched more attacks in the days that followed, violently assaulting a group of peaceful right-wing protesters Sunday in Berkeley, California.

Hurricane Harvey Likely To Destroy More Cars Than Katrina: "This Is Bad; Real Bad"

Hurricane Harvey's historic flooding in Texas is set to wreak havoc on the auto industry and its insurers with analysts now predicting the storm could damage more vehicles than Hurricane Katrina. In August 2005, Katrina wiped out some 500,000-600,000 vehicles but William Armstrong of CL King warns that Houston has about 5x more people than New Orleans did at the time.

Hurricane Harvey could damage more vehicles than Hurricane Katrina, driving business to the salvage auctions operated by Copart and KAR Auction Services, CL King analyst William Armstrong wrote in a note.

Katrina damaged 500,000-600,000 vehicles in August 2005, and the greater Houston MSA is five times as populous as pre-Katrina New Orleans.

The cost of dealing with catastrophes can be higher than normal given vehicle extraction, towing and temporary storage and auction locations, though both companies have grown their physical presence in Texas over the last year, which should lower the need for temporary locations.

It may be 2-3 months or longer until damaged vehicles are sold at auction.

DC firm selected to investigate grade fraud allegations in Pr. George’s Co.

SUITLAND, Md. — Months after allegations arose of widespread grade fraud in the Prince George’s County school system, the Maryland State Department of Education has announced that it’s hired a firm to investigate the claims.

Members of the county’s school board made the allegations, and Gov. Larry Hogan called for such an audit after members of the county’s delegation to Annapolis requested a review.

Prince George’s County schools CEO Kevin Maxwell said that he welcomed the investigation by the state.

Green Acres School leadership last week sent families a message announcing the change, which emerged from classroom discussions about race- or ethnicity-based sports team logos.

In a phone interview Monday, Head of School Neal Brown said he wants to enforce the rule in a way that creates a respectful campus without making children feel guilty for cheering on the D.C. team.

But in recent years, the fair has received complaints about that.

‘We found that the flag and the symbol itself — some people felt this was a flag of hate,” J.T. Hindle, president of the fair’s board of directors, told WTOP.

SPLC Backs Down: Removes Innocent Town From 'Hate Map'

On Monday, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) removed the historic Iowa town Amana Colonies from its "hate map" that inspired a terrorist attack in 2012. The SPLC had targeted Amana Colonies as a refuge of "hate" because of an alleged link to the neo-Nazi website Daily Stormer. The Amana Colonies is a historic landmark, the site of seven German Pietist villages that produced a self-sustaining local economy for eighty years.

"We're thrilled for them changing the map and correcting it to what it should be, and not having the Amanas as a hate group," David Rettig, executive director of the Amana Colonies Convention and Visitors Bureau, told the Iowa City Press-Bulletin.

The SPLC "had previously designated the historic settlement as the home of the Daily Stormer, a neo-Nazi and white supremacy news and commentary organization," the Press-Bulletin reported. On Monday, one of the Amanas leaders received word that the SPLC had changed Daily Stormer's designation to "statewide."

**Update** Troopers Investigate Fatal Crash South of Laurel

Laurel – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred south of Laurel early Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred around 8:12 p.m. Tuesday August 29, 2017 as Carman L. Williams, 60 of Philadelphia Pennsylvania was operating a 2006 Buick Lucerne westbound on Gordy Road stopped at a posted stop sign at the intersection of Sussex Highway (US 13). Seven Character Flaws America's Schools Encourage By Failing to Teach History

It seems pretty obvious, in light of the recent "monument mess" and discussions/arguments over statues, that our nation's schools have done a pretty poor job in teaching kids history. The New York Post reported earlier this year that an abysmal 18 percent of American high school students were "proficient" in history.

The Atlantic, NBC News, The New York Times, Smithsonian Magazine, and theHuffington Post all reported the same depressing news: American high school and college students too, apparently) simply do not know American or World history, geography, or civics.

The facts are, most American high school and college students are dreadfully and blissfully ignorant of the most basic information about their own country, government, and the history and cultures of the world around them. This can account for some of the behavior among mobs of "students" attacking free speech and vandalizing property. Do not expect the schools which have been teaching them thus far to turn things around anytime soon.

Hogan To Propose Bill To Tighten Violent Crime Sentencing

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said Tuesday he plans to propose legislation to tighten sentencing for violent criminals in the upcoming session, part of an effort to quell a surge in Baltimore bloodshed.

Hogan, a Republican, said he is planning a "truth in sentencing" measure as part of a package of bills in the legislative session that begins in January. He told reporters after a closed-door meeting of the Baltimore City Criminal Justice Coordinating Council that too many judges are waiving prison sentences for probation for repeat violent criminals.

"I believe that that's not acceptable, and we keep putting those same exact violent people on the streets," the governor said.

Hogan also expressed displeasure that judges declined to attend the meeting.

"We wanted input," Hogan said. "They refused to come."

Some perspective on the flooding

The Houston metro area covers about 10,000 square miles, an area slightly bigger than New Jersey. It's crisscrossed by about 1,700 miles of channels, creeks and bayous that drain into the Gulf of Mexico, about 50 miles to the southeast from downtown. The flooding is so widespread that the levels of city waterways have either equaled or surpassed those of Tropical Storm Allison from 2001, and no major highway has been spared some overflow.

Maryland school bans students from wearing Washington Redskins gear

A health professional in California reported cases where eclipse-viewers sought medical treatment because they put sunscreen on their eyeballs to view last week’s solar eclipse.

KRCTV.com reported that these individuals applied the sunscreen because they did not have the NASA-approved eyewear.

“One of my colleagues at moonlight here stated yesterday that they had patients presenting at their clinic that put sunscreen on their eyeball, and presented that they were having pain and they were referred to an ophthalmologist,” Trish Patterson, a nurse at Prestige Urgent Care in Redding, Calif., said.

Want a Pass from the Media? Call Yourself 'Mohammed'

Some crime stories the media relish. Others they resist covering. In February of this year, a drunken peckerwood named Adam Purinton shot and killed an Indian engineer in suburban Kansas City thinking the man was an Iranian. The media nationwide ran with this story and shamelessly tied the shooting to the rise of Donald Trump. The Kansas City Star posted more than 50 articles on this one crime alone.

Three years earlier, the Star widely covered the story of a highway shooter who terrorized the metro for more than a month, hitting at least a dozen cars and wounding several people. Then the police arrested the shooter. The fact that he was black dimmed the enthusiasm in local newsrooms. The fact that his first name was “Mohammed” killed it.

Antifa violence brings no outrage from Dems, after dire warnings about right-wing violence

The same Democrats who criticized President Trump for his response to the Charlottesville violence and warned for days of potential chaos at a right-wing rally planned for last weekend have been virtually silent on the attacks committed Sunday by apparent Antifa members in Berkeley, Calif.

Thirteen people were arrested, and five were injured after more than 100 black-clad, hooded protesters with masks and weapons attacked conservative demonstrators in Berkeley. They allegedly were associated with the far-left Antifa.

“They came with black masks, they carried weapons, they were pounding people down with their fists and feet,” Berkeley College Republican Ashton Whitty told Fox News' “The Story with Martha MacCallum” on Monday night. “I knew I had to get out of there.”

Whitty added: “Everything was great until Antifa showed up.”

Police have been given stand down orders while Antifa destroys the campus.

Nolte: Antifa Teams up With Big Business and Big Media for ‘Corporate Fascist Rampage'

Senior Writer John Nolte talked about his return to Breitbart News, the left’s war against free speech, and the current state of Hollywood with SiriusXM host Alex Marlow on Tuesday’s edition of Breitbart News Daily.

Marlow reminisced about how he and Nolte were among the first members of the Breitbart News team, with Nolte serving as inaugural editor for the Big Hollywood section. After a year and a half away, Nolte returned to Breitbart with an article on Monday entitled “5 Reasons Why Trump’s Pardon of Sheriff Joe Arpaio Is Awesome.”

Sizing up the current political environment, Nolte said: “There is no bottom the media is not willing to hit in order to take their version of the country back.”

“I think that the great definer of how low the media is willing to go is Antifa,” he continued. “You have in Antifa what is basically a left-wing terrorist group, a vigilante group, spreading out across the country to shut down – through chaos, violence, and riots – any opinion they don’t agree with.”

“Now, none of us sympathize with neo-Nazis. But it’s not just neo-Nazis,” he observed. “And by the way, neo-Nazis should have a right to peaceably express themselves, no matter how noxious their views. But it’s not just neo-Nazis, it’s Trump supporters.”

“One of the great undercovered stories during the whole Charlottesville episode was that the day after Charlottesville, in another city – I think it was Seattle – a bunch of Trump supporters held a rally, and Antifa also went over there and beat the hell out of those people, and shut them down,” Nolte recalled. “Those weren’t neo-Nazis. Those weren’t neo-Confederates. Those were just Trump supporters, and violence was used to shut them up and to stop it, and the media just doesn’t care.”

Bay Area TV Anchor: "I Experienced Hate First Hand Today In Berkeley" From AntiFa...

After the media lashed out at right-wing extremists in the aftermath of the tragic violence in Charlottesville, the tide now appears to be turning against the all-black-clad "Antifa."

For the first time since the campaigns began late last year and protests broke out, The Washington Post unleashed this shocking headline.

Their faces hidden behind black bandannas and hoodies, about 100 anarchists and antifa - “anti-fascist” - members barreled into a protest Sunday afternoon in Berkeley’s Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park.

Jumping over plastic and concrete barriers, the group melted into a larger crowd of around 2,000 that had marched peacefully throughout the sunny afternoon for a “Rally Against Hate” gathering.

Shortly after, violence began to flare. A pepper-spray-wielding Trump supporter was smacked to the ground with homemade shields. Another was attacked by five black-clad antifa members, each windmilling kicks and punches into a man desperately trying to protect himself. A conservative group leader retreated for safety behind a line of riot police as marchers chucked water bottles, shot off pepper spray and screamed, “Fascist go home!”

Faculty from Top Universities Sign Letter Urging Students to Reject ‘Vice of Conformism’

'Don't be tyrannized by public opinion. Don't get trapped in an echo chamber'

Faculty from Princeton, Harvard, and Yale have signed an open letter to incoming university students, begging them to reject the "vice of conformism," and instead, "Think for yourself."

In "Some Thoughts and Advice for Our Students and All Students," fifteen scholars from nearly as many disciplines agreed that thinking independently "always demands self-discipline and these days can require courage."

"At many colleges and universities what John Stuart Mill called ‘the tyranny of public opinion' does more than merely discourage students from dissenting from prevailing views on moral, political, and other types of questions. It leads them to suppose that dominant views are so obviously correct that only a bigot or a crank could question them," the letter reads. "Since no one wants to be, or be thought of, as a bigot or a crank, the easy, lazy way to proceed is simply by falling into line with campus orthodoxies."

Berkeley Police Allowed Antifa to Jump Barricades, Assault Demonstrators

Berkeley police deliberately allowed masked “Antifa” anarchists to jump a barricade and attack a demonstration by a peaceful right-wing group on Sunday, leading to five assaults, including on Patriot Prayer group leader Joey Gibson.

The counter-demonstration had reportedly been “largely peaceful” until that point.

The police later defended their decision by arguing that keeping the anarchists out would have led to greater violence. There was “no need for a confrontation over a grass patch,” Berkeley police chief Andrew Greenwood said, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

The original “No to Marxism” protest had been denied a permit by the city, but a small group of protesters showed up anyway, as did 2,000 “largely peaceful” counter-demonstrators, the Mercury News reported. SFGate.com reported that there were 400 police on hand to prevent violence. But they stepped aside, the Mercury News reported, when over 100 masked anarchists “busted through police lines, avoiding security checks by officers to take away possible weapons.”

The result was several severe beatings of those who had gathered to protest against Marxism. Thirteen of the anarchists were arrested, the Chronicle reported.

Vacationers and locals alike are deserting the beach as Ocean City waits for what is to come.

It can get scary out here, with the shorelines being pushed in for the beach replenishments we have, there aren’t sandbars to protect you,” says one beachgoer.

Why Trump Should Pardon Bundys & Their Supporters

Federal land grab was completely illegal

Last week a Nevada jury dealt another blow this week to the government’s case against participants in an armed uprising against federal agents three years ago involving the family of rancher Cliven Bundy and his supporters.

The jury acquitted two men, Richard Lovelien and Steven Stewart, of all 10 charges against them, and two others, Eric Parker and O. Scott Drexler, on most counts. The jury deadlocked on the remaining charges against Parker and Drexler, and then Judge Gloria Navarro an appointee of President Obama hand- picked by Harry Reid, declared a mistrial.

Navarro’s conduct in the case and her efforts to cook the results of the next trial by denying the defendants any real defense. Navarro knows that no matter how outrageous her conduct the X circuit, the most politically activist liberal would be unable to overturn her rulings and all the Bundy defendants will have died in prison before the US Supreme Court could hear this case.
