BREAKING NEWS: LEE BEAUCHAMP TERMINATED

Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver has announced that Lee Beauchamp, Director of Public Works, is no longer employed by the County. Mr. Beauchamp was appointed to serve by the previous administration and was approved for appointment by the County Council as of July 1, 2013.

All County Department Heads are at will employees who serve at the pleasure of the County Executive. The County Council must approve new appointments.

A search will begin immediately for a new Director. No disruption in service is expected.

  1. Another good decision by Culver. That Beauchamp kid is just that - a punk kid who abused the system. He used voodoo math to justify projects that would have sunk the county. He was not honest. Excellent move.

  3. Is this the same family of Beauchamps that are in the school official pay posting below?

  5. Thank you Bob Culver for being a man of your word and making the tough decisions. The people will have your back against the good ole boys, including some still on the council, who will try to drag you down. Don't let them get to you. The people voted you in to do just what you are doing, reclaiming our government and fixing the county. Keep up the good work.

  7. Why even fill the position. Before Beachamp there wasn't a director since Rai Sharma. Save us some money.

  8. Why need a Public Works Director if you don't plan on any public works? Culver's gonna let all the county roads go back to gravel and no county buildings will be maintained or built, but by God, you're gonna save $5 on your property tax next year!

    Readers Note:

When Kirk Banks was the County Roads/Engineer, Landfill Engineer, Airport Engineer, . . . he used to not only be responsible for Snow Clearing, Landfill Operations, Blacktop/Tar & Chip . . . but get this - he was also responsible for the annual snow removal at the Wicomico County airport. Moreover, he was also in charge of the Airport Industrial Park creation, and blacktopping.

I do not believe that the average person knows exactly how many roles he filled - but I can tell you this much - Wicomico County has about 12 others employed for a position that was previously held by one lone soldier, Kirk Banks. May GOD BLESS HIS SOLE . . he is sorely missed!!!!

  10. I know these decisions didn't come easy. I believe I'm correct to remember Beauchamp was unanimously approved by council including Culver. Apparently, he didn't perform as presented. Things like this happen. And when they do then then a corrective action needs to happen. Maybe Beauchamp was too immature to handle the department head and should have grown into the job. I'm sorry for all involved.

  11. 6:41 - You must be Lee. Culver is doing nothing of the kind. Roads will be in better shape and if you think the county buildings are maintained now, you are out of your mind. Culver believes in having pride in your buildings and vehicles, so I think you will see better maintained buildings. If you think schools built on mud holes is leadership, no wonder you got canned.

  13. The people in this county voted a mandate for change. Obviously some of you can't stand change including some department heads. But Culver is doing exactly what the people voted him in to do. Get over yourselves. We have had 8 years of a bump sitting on a log and things were left to get out of hand. Changes are at hand now.

  14. Strasburg, Morris, Baker and Konrad need to go. The first three because they are part of the good ole boy system and will not adjust to change and the last because he is just incompetent. Creamer and his secretary need to go, but it is doubtful the RINOs will allow it. They will be embarrassed very soon if they don't do something about the council office. Ever heard of random drug testing?

  15. I think Bob is doing what is right for the County. We will see. Good luck Bob it is tough living in the fish bowl do not loose your beliefs. At the end of the day that is all you have. I got your back. I think you know exactly what your doing. This county needed an enema for a while lol

  17. I just hope Mr. Culver keeps on with replacement of the rest of Pollitt's crew. The voters overwhelming chose to replace the former regime - and it is only proper for County Executive Culver to now follow through. He is now acting on his campaign promises to the people. For that - my family and I owe him 100% of our support. Same thing happened when George Bush Jr. beat Al Gore, and same thing happened again when Bill Clinton beat George Bush Sr. and so on down the line. All cabinet officials were replaced by the new incoming administration. It would be a disservice for the taxpayers if everything remained the same. GOOD JOB MR. CULVER!!!

The ones doing the grunt work are making approx 8.00 per hour! Morale has hit rock bottom since "word" leaked about these bonuses!!Also, does anyone know why it is ok for a Ranking Vol.fireman to have a take home vehicle and be seen running around town with his family in the County car going to restaurants as well as other destinations? Using it for transportation to/from a second job?

It's in the Charter there has to be a director and a deputy director. So what, change the charter. We don't need directors and deputy directors.

We need to get rid of Wayne Stausburg and Sharon the Deputy County Administrator and not fill those positions either.

Now which County employee are you?

Lee if you knew how to do your job you wouldn't have been fired. By the way what do you know about building roads? Nothing!

Now hopefully we don't have to worry about getting that toxic trash burning incinerator.

Don't underestimate the County Council. Not all of them are RINO's. Holloway, Kilmer and Dodd are the most fiscally responsible on that team and you will see results.

  34. Same campaign promises that Jim Ireton had made during his campaign, but Jim Ireton turned on all his real friends and supporters and jumped in bed with his enemies and many of them were John Pick and all the Department Heads that supported Gary Comegys. Guess what? Those Department heads are still their and several of them got promotions and got to hire more employees wasting millions more in tax dollars and capital projects.

    Bob Culver or Jim Ireton?

    Who has the real BALLS!!

In just over a month Bob has proven to be the real leader. Jim Ireton is a big disappointment.

Can you please explain more on these bonuses at the Civic Center? Name Names!

Can you please explain who this ranking volunteer fireman is and what fire department. The County Exec or Council has no control over the volunteer fire departments, but this info will help them determine how much funding they may receive.

  43. 4:52AM - you are wrong. County employees below Dept. Head level are not at will after 6 months of tenure and a favorable performance review.

  44. I worked for Kirk Banks. He was one qualified dedicated county employee he was. He definitely did the jobs of many, not just his. He controled Sharma a great deal, and did his job for him.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Culver ordered all take home cars parked. If this volunteer fireman is taking home a car, he is in direct violation of an order from the County Executive. Call the employee hotline and leave his name if you are not man enough to name him directly...or let Joe post his name. Insubordination is grounds for termination. Bob doesn't fool around with that.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Joe can you keep the Wicomico stories at the top - BOE, Transition and this one. Thank you.

  49. I don't really have any feelings on this one way or another because I don't know Beauchamp or much about what he's done as Director of Public Works. Most of you folks seem pretty happy about this dismissal, though. Would someone be so kind as to inform me what Beauchamp did (or didn't do) that was so bad?

    ReplyDelete
  50. 1:00 Any and all terminations are strictly personnel issues and I'm sure that kind of information isn't available.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hey 10:03...are you an idiot or just plain stupid? How do you FIRE a VOULNTEER? Also, FYI, many of the "volunteer" fire departments are separate corporations who have purchased their own vehicles with their own funding. The county cannot dictate what they can and can't do with a privately purchased vehicle.

    ReplyDelete
  52. 1:24 I totally agree with you if in fact the fireman was driving a fire car but the comment indicated it was a county car. Are you acknowledging the car in question is owned by the fire department?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Amen!!!!! Totally agree with you on this. You must know them well

  54. Isn't it WAYNE Strausberg & LEE Beauchamp????

    ReplyDelete
  55. 3:25 you are correct. Maybe the person was mixing the two because they operate in similar ways and both need to go.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Not all funding for all county departments come from the county. Maybe that is what the person meant about the car from the fire department. Some funds are from grants or state or even federal monies.

  58. To 9:34 Poster - Kirk Banks

I do not know if you can recall the great blizzard Wicomico experienced in 1981 - but my parents called Mr. Banks about not being able to get out to take my mother to the hospital. Mr. Banks was at our front door within an 1 hour of the call. There was 36" of snow. What a soldier he was.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Sounds like we need some more Kirk Banks in Wicomico County instead of the young, dumb and entitled that they are promoting now. SMH

  60. Lee didn't get a sense of entitlement from his dad. However, someone that young as a department head can only succeed with a strong peer group who lead by example, a good culture created be an HR department of excellence, and an administration that exudes integrity and will mentor and provide appropriate development and learning opportunities. The people who we just fired through the election failed Lee and in the vacuum it seems that he developed or came with academic knowledge, but poor supervisory experience and judgement.

    ReplyDelete
  61. 6:30 very sad but true. Had Lee had the right supervisor he might have grown into the job but Strausburg failed him. Strausburg allowed him to run wild with plans and ideas and didn't provide the supervision he needed. He was like a kid in a candy store. My hope is that Lee will find a job that he will be allowed to grow into.
