9 Signs You Have Lyme Disease — and Don't Know It

Summer is the season of Lyme disease, a bacterial infection transmitted to humans through the bites of blacklegged ticks.

Lyme is the most commonly reported vector-borne illness in the country. More than 20,000 cases are reported to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention every year, but experts believe upwards of 300,000 individuals are infected annually. The CDC reports that 95 percent of cases in 2012 were concentrated to 13 states in the Northeast and Upper Midwest, where the tick is native.

But like many insect-carried diseases, Lyme is spreading thanks to climate change. Warmer weather across the continent has spread the home turf of Lyme-carrying ticks, numerous studies have found, including a recent one published in Environmental Health Perspectives (PDF).

A Productive Economy Is A Trading Circle

The destructive consequences of a parasitic Tyranny of the Wealthy and Majority have yet to play out, but they will, and sooner than most believe possible.

One of the core concepts of my work is that our state-cartel dominated economy is fundamentally a vast parasitic skimming machine that redistributes the nation's earned wealth to two constituencies that support the skimming operation: those at the top of the financial pyramid (i.e. super-wealthy cronies who fund the political careers of the political elite) who constitute a Tyranny of the Wealthy, and state dependents who constitute a Tyranny of the Majority, i.e. they will support the political elites that guarantee their share of the swag, regardless of the consequences to the nation or the economy.

This Historic Cross Was Erected to Honor Fallen WWI Soldiers, but Now Atheists Are Suing for It to Be Removed

It’s a simple design: A large cross with a plaque beneath it featuring the names of fallen U.S. soldiers. But a group of atheists says that the memorial commemorating deceased World War I soldiers is a violation of the separation of church and state.

Known as the “Peace Cross,” the 40-foot structure has been on display in Bladensburg, Maryland, since 1925 when the American Legion, a veterans rights organization, raised the bulk of the money needed to erect it.

In addition to soldiers’ names, the plaque contains a quote from President Woodrow Wilson that reads, “The right is more precious than the peace; we shall fight for the things we have always carried nearest our hearts; to such a task we dedicate ourselves.”

It also features the words ”valor, endurance, courage, devotion.”

Hillary Clinton Already in Control of Democratic Members of Benghazi Panel

This is exactly the type of corruption and pandering that caused this administration’s many scandals. The Democratic Party suffers from a complete lack of basic accountability. Its first instinct is to lie and cover up.

Hillary Clinton’s world was so worried about a Republican investigation of the Benghazi attacks, they sent a message to House Democrats: We need backup.

So Clinton emissaries launched a back channel campaign, contacting several House Democratic lawmakers and aides to say they’d prefer Democrats participate, according to sources familiar with the conversations.

Hillary Clinton stacked the first investigation of Benghazi with her people. Now she has managed to do it in Congress.

Little "Warrior" Preemie Winning Fight For Life

When Jennifer and Gannon Kupko of York Haven, Pa., won their battle to become parents with the help of in vitro fertilization, they didn't expect that their baby would have to struggle just to stay alive.

Their son, Gannon, was born 12 weeks prematurely last December. He weighed only 13 ounces and measured 10 inches long. He was so small that his dad's wedding ring could slide right up his arm, CBS 21 Harrisburg reports.

Since then, the boy's resilience has earned him the nickname "Warrior" Gannon.

His mom Jennifer says she was scared when she found out that her baby would be delivered 12 weeks early. Doctors at York Hospital were unable to reassure her that he would survive.

Michael Moore speaks out after latest U.S. mass shooting

The filmmaker behind Bowling for Columbine has responded to calls for comment following the latest U.S. mass shooting.

Michael Moore wrote a Facebook post describing America's national symbol as the gun, not the bald eagle.

'With due respect to those who are asking me to comment on last night’s tragic mass shooting ... I no longer have anything to say about what is now part of normal American life,' Moore wrote.

'Everything I have to say about this, I said it 12 years ago,' he said, referencing his 2002 documentary in which he explored the possible causes of the horrific Columbine High School massacre in 1999 carried out by teens Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold.

Boy Scouts President Gates says he supports gay adults' inclusion

Robert Gates, the new president of the Boy Scouts of America, said Friday that he would have moved last year to allow openly gay adults in the organization but said he opposes any further attempts to address the policy now.

Gates took over an organization this week that serves about 2.5million youth but faces continued membership declines and fights over its inclusion of openly gay boys, but not adults.

Gates, the former secretary of defense who oversaw the end of the military's 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy, addressed those issues Friday, a day after Scouting's national leadership elected him president.

'I was prepared to go further than the decision that was made,' Gates told The Associated Press in an interview in advance of a speech before the group's national leaders at its annual meeting in Nashville, Tennessee.

Montel Williams Delivers Emotional Speech to Military Heroes — What Happens at the Two-Minute Mark Reveals His Character

Television personality Montel Williams was overcome with emotion and became visibly choked up while delivering a speech addressing the ongoing Veterans Affairs scandal at a Memorial Day picnic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Discussing the backlog of treatment for wounded warriors, Williams — a 22-year veteran of the military — briefly mentioned that he makes frequent visits to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

“I have done over 30 visits to Walter Reed, sitting bedside, for almost a three-year period of time, almost every single month, trying to see every single soldier, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines,” he said during the Saturday event.

This is Brilliant

There is literally nothing in this message that I do not strongly endorse and its time we start hearing it from politicians.

This accurately defines the two party's ideological differences.

In early January 2014, Bob Lonsberry, a Rochester talk radio personality on WHAM 1180 AM, said this in response to Obama's "income inequality speech": Two Americas

The Democrats are right, there are two Americas. The America that works, and the America that doesn’t.

The America that contributes, and the America that doesn’t.

It’s not the haves and the have nots, it’s the dos and the don’ts.

Some people do their duty as Americans, obey the law, support themselves, contribute to society, and others don’t.

That’s the divide in America.

It’s not about income inequality, it’s about civic irresponsibility.

It’s about a political party that preaches hatred, greed and victimization in order to win elective office.

It’s about a political party that loves power more than it loves its country.

That’s not invective, that’s truth, and it’s about time someone said it.

The politics of envy was on proud display a couple weeks ago when President Obama pledged the rest of his term to fighting “income inequality.”

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley Takes A Break From His Day Job To Perform As Street Musician

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D), who is weighing a 2016 presidential bid, spent part of his Memorial Day doubling as a street musician in downtown Annapolis.

As captured by photos on Twitter, O’Malley played a six-string banjo at City Dock on Monday night, wearing a Baltimore Ravens t-shirt, cargo shorts and flip flops. He appeared to accept tips in his open banjo case.

Aides confirmed the authenticity of the photos — including one captured by Eye on Annapolis — but offered nothing on the record as to what possessed the governor to play.

Robbing Banks (From The Inside): "The Weapon Of Choice Is Accounting"

William Black's no-nonsense simplification of the fraud that we call a financial system is both addictive in its clarity and stunningly concerning in its scale. Ron Paul Fears The VA Scandal Is Just The Tip Of The Military Abuse Iceberg

President Obama held a press conference last week to express his outrage over reports that the Veterans Administration was routinely delaying treatment to veterans, with some veterans even dying while on alleged secret waiting lists. The president said that, “if these allegations prove to be true, it is dishonorable, it is disgraceful, and I will not tolerate it, period.” He vowed that, together with Congress, he would “make sure we're doing right by our veterans across the board.”

The president is right to be upset over the mistreatment of US military veterans, especially those who return home with so many physical and mental injuries. Veterans should not be abused when they seek the treatment promised them when they enlisted. But his outrage over military abuse is selective. He ignores the most egregious abuse of the US armed forces: sending them off to fight, become maimed, and die in endless conflicts overseas that have no connection to US national security.

It is ironic that the same week the president condemned the alleged mistreatment of veterans by the VA, he announced that he was sending 80 armed troops to Chad to help look for a group of girls kidnapped by the Nigerian Islamist organization Boko Haram. Is there any mistreatment worse than sending the US military into a violent and unstable part of the world to conduct a search operation that is in no way connected to the defense of the United States?

As Judge Andrew Napolitano said last week, “Feeling sorry for somebody is not a sufficient basis for sending American men and women into harm’s way.”

Jesus Wore The Crown Of Thorns For You

John 19:2
2 And the soldiers twisted a crown of thorns and put it on His head…

If hard work is the formula for prosperity, then everyone who works hard should be prosperous. But this is certainly not the case. Many people who work very hard are still in lack!

I am not advocating laziness. What I am saying is that working hard by the sweat of your brow is not how God’s provision comes. In fact, if you have to work overtime all the time and are stressed out, you are probably operating under the curse.

What curse is that? It is this curse: “In the sweat of your face, you shall eat bread…” (Genesis 3:19) And it refers to the stress, struggle and anxieties that come with working hard and yet producing little. Now, work itself is not a curse since God gave Adam work before the fall — Adam was to tend the garden of Eden. It was only after he sinned that the land was cursed and it brought forth thorns, and man had to toil to eat of it. (Genesis 3:17–18)

But praise God, Jesus wore the thorns on His head to show you that He has borne this curse for you and redeemed you from it. He wore the crown of thorns so that you can work stress-free and yet have the results. You don’t have to be worried and stressed out day and night like the people of the world just to get ahead in life. Your heavenly Father can get you there without the worries and stress. (Matthew 6:31–33)

Beloved, every curse that was supposed to fall on your head fell on Jesus’ head, typified by the crown of thorns. He wore the crown of thorns for you so that you can have peace of mind. He wore the crown of thorns for you and took your curse so that you can wear the crown of glory and take His righteousness, and all the benefits of that righteousness!

Today, don’t labor and toil like the people of the world. Instead, expect to see the blessings of God come into your life without blood, sweat and tears because Jesus wore the crown of thorns for you!

Guardian: Tea Party Has 'Lasting Control of the GOP Agenda'

Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell's primary victory on Tuesday night in Kentucky will undoubtedly tempt many a pundit to write the Tea Party's eulogy. But the Tea Party will achieve in electoral death what it could never achieve in life: lasting control of the GOP agenda.

McConnell won because he's got a familiar name, a lot of money and the kind of political clout that makes up for occasional lapses from orthodoxy. That might not be enough next time – as a local Kentucky Republican leader told the National Journal last week, the state party is "still McConnell's Republican Party, but it's edging toward being Rand [Paul]'s Republican Party". But, it was enough to keep it from being challenger Matt Bevin's Republican party – especially after his unforced errors and willingness to prize ideological purity over more pragmatic concerns (like the $2bn in pork McConnell brought home for agreeing to end the government shutdown).

McConnell didn't win because he became a Tea Party member – he's so conservative, he didn't have to. (A vote analysis casts him as one of the top 25 conservative members of the Senate, and Tea Party darling and intrastate rival Paul is at number 19.) Instead, McConnell's win just shows how easily the GOP grows over its fringes.

Obama blames 'structural' design of Congress for gridlock

President Obama is taking a swipe at the Founding Fathers, blaming his inability to move his agenda on the “disadvantage” of having each state represented equally in the Senate.

At a Democratic fundraiser in Chicago Thursday night, Mr. Obama told a small group of wealthy supporters that there are several hurdles to keeping Democrats in control of the Senate and recapturing the House. One of those problems, he said, is the apportionment of two Senate seats to each state regardless of population.

Why War Is Inevitable

Memorial Day is being turned into a celebration of war

Memorial Day is when we commemorate our war dead. Like the Fourth of July, Memorial Day is being turned into a celebration of war.

Those who lose family members and dear friends to war don’t want the deaths to have been in vain. Consequently, wars become glorious deeds performed by noble soldiers fighting for truth, justice, and the American way. Patriotic speeches tell us how much we owe to those who gave their lives so that America could remain free.

The speeches are well-intentioned, but the speeches create a false reality that supports ever more wars. None of America’s wars had anything to do with keeping America free. To the contrary, the wars swept away our civil liberties, making us unfree.

Bipartisan calls increase for Holder to investigate ‘level of criminality’ in VA scandal

Remember those who gave their lives for their country on Memorial Day, but don’t forget veterans who need their country’s help now.

That was the message Sunday as lawmakers intensified calls for the Justice Department to take action in the Veterans Affairs hospital scandal, saying the accusations have crossed the line from bureaucratic incompetence to criminal misconduct.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger, Illinois Republican, called on Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. to investigate accusations that the VA submitted fake waiting list times in order to bolster its numbers while keeping secret lists of the actual wait times for patients.

“When we were talking about a year or two-year backlog, that was incompetence, that was bureaucracy, that was something that we had to take a real strong approach on,” Mr. Kinzinger said on the CBS program “Face the Nation.” “But when it came to, ‘People have created fake waiting lists and veterans have died,’ I think that goes to the level of criminality.”

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut Democrat, said he has spoken with Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric K. Shinseki about bringing in the Justice Department. He said only the Justice Department and FBI have the necessary resources and expertise get to the bottom of the scandal.

Voters Increasingly Prefer Governors for President

Back in 1987, 66 percent of poll respondents said experience as a member of Congress provided better preparation for the presidency while 22 percent said serving as a governor was better preparation.

But today, the percentage of voters who think experience as a governor is better preparation has doubled to 44 percent, matching the percentage of those who believe Congress is better preparation, a new poll by the Pew Research Center reveals.

A slight majority of Republicans, 51 percent, say serving as a governor is better preparation, compared to 40 percent for Congress. Among Democrats, 55 percent prefer Congress and 35 percent prefer a governorship. Independents are about evenly split.

The reason for the switch could be found in the response to another Pew poll question indicating the growing dissatisfaction with Congress. Thirty percent of respondents say they would be less likely to support a candidate with "many years" of experience as an elected official in Washington, while just 19 percent would be more likely.

The Retail Death Rattle Grows Louder

The definition of death rattle is a sound often produced by someone who is near death when fluids such as saliva and bronchial secretions accumulate in the throat and upper chest. The person can’t swallow and emits a deepening wheezing sound as they gasp for breath. This can go on for two or three days before death relieves them of their misery. The American retail industry is emitting an unmistakable wheezing sound as a long slow painful death approaches.

It was exactly four months ago when I wrote THE RETAIL DEATH RATTLE. Here are a few terse anecdotes from that article:

The absolute collapse in retail visitor counts is the warning siren that this country is about to collide with the reality Americans have run out of time, money, jobs, and illusions. The exponential growth model, built upon a never ending flow of consumer credit and an endless supply of cheap fuel, has reached its limit of growth. The titans of Wall Street and their puppets in Washington D.C. have wrung every drop of faux wealth from the dying middle class. There are nothing left but withering carcasses and bleached bones.

Once the Wall Street created fraud collapsed and the waves of delusion subsided, retailers have been revealed to be swimming naked. Their relentless expansion, based on exponential growth, cannibalized itself, new store construction ground to a halt, sales and profits have declined, and the inevitable closing of thousands of stores has begun.

The implications of this long and winding road to ruin are far reaching. Store closings so far have only been a ripple compared to the tsunami coming to right size the industry for a future of declining spending. Over the next five to ten years, tens of thousands of stores will be shuttered. Companies like JC Penney, Sears and Radio Shack will go bankrupt and become historical footnotes. Considering retail employment is lower today than it was in 2002 before the massive retail expansion, the future will see in excess of 1 million retail workers lose their jobs. Bernanke and the Feds have allowed real estate mall owners to roll over non-performing loans and pretend they are generating enough rental income to cover their loan obligations. As more stores go dark, this little game of extend and pretend will come to an end.

VA Fallout: Boston Globe, LA Times Declare Obama Incompetent

The scandal at the Veteran's Administration is rocking the Obama regime and may yet be one of the worst scandals of the Obama era. Already two major newspapers are starting to accuse the Obama administration of utter incompetence.

In fact, a lack of "competence" is exactly how columnist for the Boston Globe Jeff Jacoby put it May 25.

Jacoby points out that Obama ran on the claim that he would be the perfect manager because he would put all the right sort of intellectual, liberal managers in place while he ran herd on them all. As he first vied for president in 2008, Obama got the endorsement of most voters because of his promise of competence.

Voters – encouraged by newspaper endorsements that saw in Obama's campaign "a marvel of sound management" (The Boston Globe) and backed him because he "offered more competence than drama" (Los Angeles Times) – ate it up. An astonishing 76 percent of respondents in a CNN/ORC poll shortly after the 2008 election agreed that Obama could "manage the government effectively."

Rehoboth Couple Arrested after Fire Erupts from Manufacturing Meth

Rehoboth, DE - The Delaware State Police have arrested a Rehoboth couple after a fire broke out in their apartment from a "one-pot" methamphetamine lab.

Troopers and local fire departments responded to the Beach Haven Apartment complex located at 35948 Haven Drive for a reported fire with a possible entrapment in unit 101 Monday evening around 8:00 p.m. Soon after the initial call, it was reported there was a domestic occurring in the parking lot which may be related to the fire, and the male subject was fleeing. Troopers were given a description of the suspect along with his name, and soon located Eric P. Marine, 37 of Rehoboth, walking in the area of Applebee's where he was taken into custody without incident. Upon conducting a search of Marine, he was found to be in possession of a hypodermic needle, 7 Clonazepam pills, 2 Tramadol pills, 2 Prazonsin pills, 1 Norvir, 2 Bromocriptine pills, 3 Pramipexole Dihydrochloride pills, and 1 Lyrica pill. The other occupant of the apartment,Susan Trudeau, 54 of Rehoboth, was already safely out of the building and was being treated by EMS.

A joint investigation ensued with the State Fire Marshall's Office who determined the fire started in a spare bedroom where equipment and component mixtures of Meth along with key ingredients in making the drug were located. Troopers assumed the investigation and were assisted by the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), during the dismantling of the meth lab along with the cleanup and mitigation process to dispose of the waste.

Eric Marine and Susan Trudeau were both decontaminated by Sussex County Paramedic's DECON team and then transported to Beebe Medical Center before being released without any life-threatening injuries. They were both transported by troopers to Troop 4 in Georgetown where they were charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Conspiracy 2nd, Operating a Clandestine Lab, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Marine was additionally charged with Possession of a Non-Controlled Substance without a Prescription, Possession of a Schedule IV Narcotic, and Possession of a Schedule V Narcotic. Both were arraigned at JP3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $30,750.00 and $30,700.00 secured bonds respectively.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., an air quality check was conducted by DNREC and residents of the apartments evacuated during the fire and clean up were allowed back into the building.

Medicaid Surge Triggers Cost Concerns For States

From California to Rhode Island, states are confronting new concerns that their Medicaid costs will rise as a result of the federal health care law.

That's likely to revive the debate about how federal decisions can saddle states with unanticipated expenses.

Before President Obama's law expanded Medicaid eligibility, millions of people who were already entitled to its safety-net coverage were not enrolled. Those same people are now signing up in unexpectedly high numbers, partly because of publicity about getting insured under the law.

For states red or blue, the catch is that they must use more of their own money to cover this particular group.

A Comment Worthy Of A Post 5-27-14

Joe: I'm not sure where to post this, so I am posting it here.

WMDT just did a story on events today in Berlin MD and other locations, and called it a "veteran's tribute".

Memorial Day is NOT a tribute to veterans. It is a day that honors those that gave the ultimate sacrifice during their term of service.

We (I am a veteran), have our own day.

THIS day is to honor our fallen. Period.

PLEASE.... News media and others, get this straight!

Tax Man Reapeth: Federal Revenue Hits All-Time Record

The federal government collected $414.23 billion in revenue in April, the largest total ever for a single month, and also set a record for the most revenue collected in the first seven months of a fiscal year.

In fiscal 2014, which began on Oct. 1, federal revenue so far has totaled $1.735 trillion — yet the government still ran a deficit of $306.4 billion over the seven-month period, according to the Monthly Treasury Statement of Receipts and Outlays of the United States Government.

In April, the government usually sees peak tax revenues for the year due to the mid-month filing deadline for income tax returns. And although the government took in $414.23 billion last month, it spent $307.38 billion — meaning there was a surplus of more than $106.8 billion.

In fiscal 2013, the government also ran a surplus in April, but it returned to the red the following month, running a deficit of $138.7 billion in May.

RAND PAUL DEFENDS DUE PROCESS

Kentucky senator opposes court appointment of lawyer who supports drone assassination of Americans

Yesterday Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) protested the nomination of David Barron, who President Obama picked for a lifetime appointment to a U.S. federal appeals court, because Barron previously wrote legal memos intended to justify the assassination of Americans abroad using drones.

“There is no legal precedent for killing American citizens not directly involved in combat and … any nominee who rubber stamps and grants such power to a president is not worthy of being placed one step away from the Supreme Court,” Paul said on the Senate floor.

Unfortunately Sen. Paul was only able to speak against Barron’s appointment for 30 minutes.

“They’ve killed the filibuster,” Paul said of Senate Democrats. “There’s no real great sort of aim to draw attention to something that there is no possibility of even delaying.”

“So, really this would require courage on the part of some Democrats, and I don’t think they’re evaluating this as if it were a Bush nominee. I think they’re evaluating it from a partisan point of view.”

White House outs CIA official by mistake

The White House accidentally revealed the name of the CIA's top intelligence official in Afghanistan to some 6,000 journalists.

The person was included on a list of people attending a military briefing for President Barack Obama during his surprise visit to Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan on Sunday.

It's common for such lists to be given to the media, but names of intelligence officials are rarely provided. In this case, the individual's name was listed next to the title, "Chief of Station."

OPERATION HIRE: MARYLAND’S 100 DAY VETERAN HIRING CHALLENGE BEGINS

Governor O’Malley and Lt. Governor Brown announce statewide campaign to support veteran employment

ANNAPOLIS, MD –
In keeping with the commitment to support veteran employment, Governor O’Malley and Lt. Governor Brown announced the start of Operation Hire: Maryland’s 100 Day Veteran Hiring Challenge, a statewide campaign encouraging employers to hire Maryland veterans. Operation Hire will complement the supportive services already in place for veterans who are seeking employment across the State.

“Veterans bring remarkable skill sets and qualities to our civilian work environment. They display fierce loyalties and commitment, a strong work ethic, excellent problem solving capabilities, and technical training,” said Governor Martin O’Malley. “Supporting veteran employment is not only good for our veterans and their families; it is good for our communities and our businesses. Today, I challenge our state and local agencies, as well as private businesses, to participate in Operation Hire.”

“While we owe them a debt we can never fully repay, Operation Hire will play a critical role in supporting the men and women who have given so much for our state and for our nation,” said Lt. Governor Brown. “As we continue to grow our economy and create jobs faster than any other state in our region, we must remain committed to ensuring that our Veterans can use the skills they learned defending our country to compete for good, Middle Class jobs throughout our state.”

One of the O'Malley-Brown Administration's 16 Strategic Goals is full employment for veterans by the end of 2015. In alignment with this goal, state and local agencies, and private businesses are encouraged to participate in Operation Hire by incorporating or expanding upon established veteran friendly hiring initiatives.

Starting June 1, businesses and agencies can visit http://veterans.maryland.gov/operation-hire-marylands-100-day-veteran-hiring-challenge/ for more information and to register as a participant in Operation Hire. Hiring toolkits and veteran employment resources will be available online and for 100 days, the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs will share participant information and track hiring. In the early fall, businesses and agencies who participate in Operation Hire will be recognized for their efforts.
