Passion Vs. Defense

Last night at the Senior Center in Ocean City a large group of Seniors gathered for what can only be described as the most exciting evening they've enjoyed in a very long time.

While Jim Mathias tried calling Mike McDermott arrogant and yelling, the crowd immediately responded by bursting out, "He's Passionate".

Mike McDermott spoke loudly, determined, without a microphone as it was blasting in everyone's ears whenever Mathias spoke. So Mike simply spoke clearly so that the Seniors could hear him.

Throughout the two hour experience, McDermott received an overwhelming applause from the audience. I personally didn't know what to expect because when I pulled up there were cars everywhere in the parking lot with Mathias magnets on them. My guess is that most of them were pulled off their vehicles by the end of the evening because the majority were siding with McDermott.

One of the questions the audience asked was why Mathias supported "Affordable Healthcare".

Jim Mathias stood up and told everyone, because it's law. YOU had the opportunity to not vote for Obama the second time around and Healthcare was what he was running on. IF YOU voted for him and he won, that means the majority of Americans, (YOU) supported Affordable Healthcare. Because he won I chose to support YOU by backing Obama on this law.

McDermott immediately stood up, (after Mathias was done) and said, IF Jim Mathias actually represented YOU he would have realized that the MAJORITY here on the Eastern Shore, (in his district) did NOT support Obamacare/Affordable Healthcare. Therefore he just proved he doesn't represent YOU, he represents his PARTY.

My personal experience there was, Mathias was on the defense the entire evening. McDermott directly answered all questions without excuses and was never in a defense mode.

I really thought McDermott would be uncomfortable being that he was on Mathias' turf. That absolutely was not the case. I'm telling you, honestly, the majority of the crowd there not only supported McDermott, he got TWO standing ovations. ANYONE who was on the fence last night will be voting for Mike McDermott.

  1. Here's an FYI for Senator Mathias taken directly from the MD State Board of Elections website.

Local results for 2012 Presidential election.

    Somerset-5240 Obama, 5042 Romney
    Wicomico-19635 Obama, 21764 Romney
    Worcester-11014 Obama, 15951 Romney

Del McDermott is absolutely correct in that the overwhelming number of voters in his district did NOT vote for Obama.

  2. Mike is loud when he debates, but an honest person can be loud and direct.

  3. Mathias and Conway are out of touch with the people. I would say that the majority of Democrats running for office are out of touch with the voters. Examples are the Maryland gun legislation, the transgender bill, and in State tuition for folks in the State illegally. Not to mention that I must pay $60 a year to flush my toilet into a septic system that I have to maintain. And, that money is supposed to go to save the bay. Yea right!

  5. The problem is so many of them start out in politics with really good intentions, then the power of the office seems to corrupt them. Term limits are really needed. I think this is what happen to Coulburn.

as far as Coulburn is concerned; he was a great conservative who represented this district very well. the only problem he had was zippergate.

  9. Mathias was running for something or another in 2005-2006, he was so evil and smug walking the streets of Pocomoke City! Barf! His personality matches his face.

  10. Coulburn talked a good game, but after over 25 years in office, he had very little to show for his time in office. I think he became too comfortable.

  11. Jim has sold out to the party. He's a nice guy and was a good mayor in OC, but when he became a delegate he caved. Now that he is a senator, he must continue to march in lockstep with the party despite the wishes of the people who put him there. This is why: he is on the list for future gubernatorial consideration. He's not sure if he wants to pursue it, but he wants to keep his options open. If he loses this election, he's done. Maybe computer ballots will save him again.

  12. Just got a big postcard from Jim's camp, that "he voted against the O'Mally tax increases!" Come on Jim, now your playing all of us to be that stupid. Your done, and should be. Jim is at for one thing, HIMSELF!

  13. Jim Mathais was once a good person, he got swept up by the bigger politics he knew nothing about. He was a great Mayor, however the worst Delegate/Senator you could imagine. He has thrown his district under the bus for his own advancement. As stated, if he loses, he's done. He has to be a career politician, he has nothing else after Kathy passed (a GREAT lady, by all accounts)

  14. No one can be a good person and support the democratic party. The party has become so corrupt it's impossible to represent good honest people if you are an elected democrat. Thanks Obama and O'Malley!

    A former democrat,

  15. I so agree with you "A former democrat," 1:00.
The way the democrats have totally disregarded the next generation including their own children and grandchildren is disturbing to put it mildly.
The mess they have created and continue to create will have to be dealt with by the children and they do not deserve it.

    And your point?

Jim Mathias is not an honest person. He is a very deceiving person.

  17. Mike has to be loud to be heard over the democrats whining! Do you think he is loud because he is very passionate about what he believes in......the people he represents!?

Computer ballots will be the only thing that saves him. The return to paper ballots can't get here quick enough. How do you think Jim Ireton was re-elected to the city.

  19. I was able to get the last question of the night directed to Sen. Mathias. Because we Marylanders are so overburdened with taxes, I stated that there is a point when taxation becomes legalized extortion. I stated that O'Malley and his followers, Mathias, has raided the transportation trust fund to the tune of 1.1 billion dollars. Sen. Mathias said that that money is being paid back. I asked him why it couldn't have been paid back by drilling in the Marcellus Shale Formation for natural gas as Penn. has been doing since 2003, drilling 54,347 wells with no problems. He stunned me with his answer. He said that we want to make sure it is safe. I was frustrated because I could not counter with the obvious question whether Annapolis has the ability to learn anything from the lucrative experience of Penn. I concluded that Sen. Mathias is more interested in his and O'Malley's relationship with the environmental wacko extremists than with the tax payers of Maryland.

Bottom Line-This nor any other fund should have be raided to begin with! Responsible lawmakers never ever Rob from Peter to pay Paul.
