Ocean City Police Department Increases Officer Presence on Boardwalk and Throughout Town

OCEAN CITY, MD – (June 16, 2020): The Ocean City Police Department has increased law enforcement presence on the Boardwalk and throughout town by 25% in response to various incidents that have occurred in the last few weeks in Ocean City. In order to keep residents and visitors safe, the department has redeployed officers and increased the presence of allied agencies. In addition to deployment, officers have been strictly enforcement all laws and ordinances, making 129 arrests over the past weekend (June 11-14, 2020), compared to 95 total arrests the same weekend of 2019.

“In recent weeks, Ocean City has seen unprecedented violence and unruly behavior in our town,” said Ocean City Police Chief Ross Buzzuro. “We are moving in the right direction. We have significantly increased our presence and made nearly 130 arrests over the weekend. These individuals will be charged for the serious crimes that they have committed. I want to assure our residents and visitors of the capabilities and commitment of the OCPD. We will remain vigilant and proactive in continuing to protect our town.”

Ocean City Police Chief Ross Buzzuro also recently discussed OCPD’s increased presence in a video message (available at https://youtu.be/80NeBkVybDY) and at a city council meeting on Monday night (available at https://www.facebook.com/ocpdmdinfo/).

  3. Stand by for people complaining about too much police presence on the boardwalk now... that’s “instigating” violent behavior now. Ridiculous.

  8. Would love to know if the guys that were beaten by the groups are in ICU, ALIVE, DEAD, etc... Worst any of us have ever seen in OC in 30 years... Stabbings, fights, groups going into stores and knocking shelves down, CHIPOTLE incident... All we get is a STATEMENT that Ocean City does not tolerate this kind of behavior yet it goes on week after week.. Businesses are not opening (Alaska Stand) while some closing down for good. FAMILY RESORT, sure....

  9. The second the riots broke out every where else the chief should have then lined up help. Who know whether it would have worked or not but it would have shown at least that he is actually thinking. That he lacks any and all forward thinking skills is what should bother people.

  10. Anyone with half a brain could look at the boardwalk cameras last week and know they needed 25% more cops.

  11. Good and when their trials come up the judge needs to make examples out of each and every one. Fines and jail time! I don’t want to hear that any of them don’t have to spend some time in jail.

  12. So what does 25% look like in terms of more bodies on the beat? Increasing the normal shift of, say, 12 officers is only 3 additional officers.

  13. OCPD knows how to kick the crap out of the typical white boy. When it comes to black people they are afraid and run away. What a sad police department

  14. Maybe if the existing officers would set an example by enforcIng the current laws regulating the businesses that can be open and the number of occupants everyone else would follow suit. Two weeks ago people were playing mini golf at Nick’s in clear violation of the Governor’s orders. The police car next to me didn’t seem to care.

  16. The OCPD has for many years now been told to stand down and not arrest most of the scum that visits and pollutes and generally disrespects the town...no police reports are the reason the crime stats are down year after year. VOTE THE DEMS OUT OF EXISTENCE
