President Donald Trump on Monday questioned why the federal government should bail out states facing a funding shortfall as a result of the coronavirus crisis.
“Why should the people and taxpayers of America be bailing out poorly run states (like Illinois, as example) and cities, in all cases Democrat run and managed, when most of the other states are not looking for bailout help?” Trump asked on Twitter. “I am open to discussing anything, but just asking?”
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) said at his daily press conference that although he spoke to the president on Monday, they did not discuss the state’s funding gap.
Cuomo continues pressing the federal government almost daily to pass additional funding to assist his state, warning of at least a $10 billion funding shortfall.
Prior to the crisis, Illinois had $6 billion of unpaid bills, as well as $137 billion of unfunded pension liabilities.

No bail outs! States are like any “corporation” with revenue stream and fixed and variable expenses. CEO, governor, is elected to properly manage and should have been properly vetted to insure credentials. Too often governors are not managers/administrators and are clueless. Voters need to consider this.
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly correct. Federal, State, county and municipal governments all operate like a corporation or business. Section 201 of the Wicomico County Charter clearly states this.
DeleteSection 101 Body corporate and politic.
Wicomico County as it now exists constitutes a body corporate and politic.
It’s amazing how few people understand this concept. Wicomico County is not a land mass. Wicomico County is a business, a corporation, like any other business that must generate revenues (taxes and fees) and pay expenses. If you’re not generating the revenues, then you reduce or cut spending.
Yes 9:50, that's how Trump is making America great again, he's a businessman. TRUMP 2020 KAG
DeleteNO BAILOUTS for states giving money to illegals and states with cities declaring themselves as sanctuary cities.
ReplyDeleteDitto ditto 9:54..thats were they wasted tax dollars
DeleteIt isnt the result of being poorly run. The states need a bail out because of the carona virus. It isn't just NY or Illinois, Maryland and other neighboring states will need it too. Sales tax took a big hit and rainy day funds are all gone. If there aren't any bail outs we could end up seeing massive tax increases, or massive layoffs. States have been talking about 20% cuts to school, police, fire, hospitals etc. That's a lot of lost jobs. Plus construction/infrastructure improvement will almost certainly not happen now.
ReplyDeleteHave you been paying attention. Democrats mismanagement caused these problems WAY before the virus PHYSC OP took hold. Yes lack of funds will make it worse going forward..well lets see your proposed cuts. But NEVER do you deserve my help for your incompetence
DeleteState run pensions they keep stealing from
ReplyDeleteWhy? Regardless of political affiliation - its what America does!
ReplyDeleteThe US tax payer should be responsible for themselves and not others. This is just another socialism tactic. Let the elite bail them out since they have all the money worth multi-millions. They are the culprits that created this problem.
ReplyDeleteI have a $18,000 year retirement and you want meto go broke to pay for the millionaires creed. BS. They don't need a tax payer $100,000 retirement. They want me to live on my little retirement and pay for health insurance and all my living expense then they are saying that this is enough to live on and they should have to do the same. They can put the difference back into their State budget to pay for their desires.
ReplyDeleteMy man! Asking the questions that NEED to be asked!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't matter what they should or shouldn't, what is right or wrong, they will get what they want and you will let them and then you will get right on here running your mouth about what they just did!!!
ReplyDeleteWash, rinse, repeat!!!!
I love how you morons will get on this blog and say NO MORE BAIL OUTS all over the place while you still ALLOW THEM TO BAIL OUT!!!! Just STFU and go back to your hole in the ground...
ReplyDeleteAnd what is your plan to stop the federal government from taking your tax dollars and giving them to California or Illinois because they don't know what a budget is or how to control the theft and graft from their state treasury?
Delete11:55 has no plan, he's just like the rest of us on here. Just more mouthy. If he was as great as he thinks he is, he would these problems solved already. Keep Traveling 11:55
DeleteNO BAILOUTS!!! for any states giving money to illegals and states with cities declaring themselves as sanctuary cities
ReplyDeleteDon't do it. Let them figure it out like an individual or family has to do when an unexpected expense comes up. The bail out money will go to special projects run by friends and family. DeBlasio has already started the train by hiring his wife. A play out of Biden's book and all the other elites.
ReplyDeleteNO STATES SHOULD EVER BE FORCED TO BEAR THE FINANCIAL WEIGHT OF OTHER STATES THAT HAVE KNOWINGLY PRACTICED UNSUSTAINABLE FINANCIAL PRACTICES OR PROMISED UNSUSTAINABLE PENSIONS KNOWING THEY COULDNT AFFORD THEM. NOR SHOULD WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR NON SUSTSINABLE SANCTUARY POLICIES...NEVER, EVER...END OF STORY!
ReplyDeleteI love how trump calls states poorly run because they need a bail out yet the federal government hasn't balanced a budget in 20 years.
ReplyDeleteOf course states need bailouts. It was either go into debt or let people die.
Bail out the American workers FIRST / Take over Unemployment because
ReplyDeletethe states SUCK at it !!!
Feds need to Run it & we would have our $$$ by now !!!!
11:55 we can't just fire them. Wish we could. Can't even vote them out, since they lie then get in office and turncoat. They get their millions and put in laws that violate our rights. You don't have any suggestions so you must be one of those Democrat socialist getting this money for "free".
ReplyDeleteNo bailouts, citizens unite to stop paying taxes to shut them down.
ReplyDeleteGovernments will never work with a balanced budget when all they have to do is raise taxes and say they are working within a budget.
