Unsanctioned Participants, Residents Address Council On Last Month’s Chaotic Weekend; Participant: ‘We Can Work Together To Create An Amazing Event’

OCEAN CITY — In the first real public forum on Monday since another “intolerable” unsanctioned motor vehicle event two weeks ago, it was clear nerves are still raw and tensions remain high, but there appears to be some willingness for reconciliation.

It was clear from the beginning during Monday’s Mayor and Council meeting most of the large crowd in attendance was not there for the mundane agenda. When it came time for the public comment period, many spoke out against the unsanctioned H2Oi event while others sought answers from their city leaders. For the first time, publicly at least, even some participants in the unsanctioned event made their feelings known.

The public comment session ran the gamut from fear and anger to distrust and resentment from both sides. Respect was a recurring theme and both sides appeared to offer olive branches and attempts at reconciliation. When the lengthy public comment period ended, one thing was perfectly clear, however.

  1. It still all boils down to a group of spoiled brats that want to break the law and then cry victim when the law does it's job. But mommy and daddy have always told them they are special and can do anything they want. Call in the national guard with some water cannons and rubber bullets the sissies will retreat they aren't doing anything for the local economy for the weekend anyway quit apologizing to them and deal with them accordingly.

  2. Like to see this reconciliation. The H2Oi wants to enjoy comradery and the beach. The business person wants the money that comes in. The others wants a peaceful environment they call a Family resort with all the bars, druggies and homeless. Politians have created a disaster they cannot handle because of the people they have put in these positions of organizers that are not problem solvers that just look at the money end.

  3. These young people who do not respect the law should be banned from OC and any other city . They are not people of integrity or ethics . In any other country they would be in jail or shot.

  4. How amazingly naive most of the speakers were at this meeting.
    "Burn-out Zones"?
    "...more activities..."?
    "Make them feel welcome"?
"Repeal the Special Event Zone fines"?
This is the mentality of old folks thinking they know what the youth of today really want.
    They are wrong.
    For example:
The "After-Prom Party" to cut down on Prom Night drinking parties. In truth, only the nerdy kids that wouldn't be partying anyway go to these things.
    Another example:
All-night basketball games in inner cities. The target group would never go to these things.
This "car event" is nothing more than the phenomenon of social media. It's a call to party - and party hard.
They are doing the same as a mob-shoplifting gang does at the malls, only this takes over a city - our city.
    The answer is simple:
Tough penalties for unlawful behavior. The most harsh allowable by law.
THIS is the ONLY thing this generation - this "car show" gang - will ever understand.
Word will get out that if you mess with Ocean City, they will mess with you 100-times harder.
    It's just too damn simple.
We want you to come to town. That is our lifeblood in Ocean City. Just follow the rules and we'll all be happy, but if you break the rules, we will come down hard. We can't have you taking over our town.

You can't ban them, that's impossible to do. However you can arrest them, impound their car, and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.

This Turd Burglar is suggesting that we let those Douche Bags do WTF they want and just ignore everything.

That little Turd Burglar is part of the problem.

  10. There is one truth here...kids came to 'get even' with the town. If you look at their various posts, there are a multitude of anti police slogans along with some very vulgar statements about H2oi never going away.

Yes, you will go away, and no, there will be no negotiation...you gave up that option when you trashed the town and bragged about it.

No, you will not get burn out zones or anything else that is both dangerous and illegal

No, you will not be welcomed - you brought this on yourselves

You should expect the possibilities of the following:

Coastal highway becoming a single lane for your 'event' along the innermost lanes. This allows EMS.First responders to move about the city as needed.
You can possibly expect the National Guard to be available to move all crowds along with the police - you can expect they may make coastal highway a parking lot, which would limit how much police presence would be needed and pretty much destroy any way for burn outs, two steps and the like to occur. This would also free up police to be stationed in all of your favorite sides streets to help you better understand the law

You can also possibly expect to see the inlet parking lot become a temporary impound yard, and no, you will not be able to get your car out until your case is called and heard by a judge or special master.....and that can take weeks and cost thousands

You can expect that the legislator in Annapolis will indeed act quite quickly, as you so graciously provided more than enough video to secure their vote for very aggressive and enhanced sanctions

You can expect that every effort will be made to possibly employ the above measures with out regard to you or your lame excuses of being ashamed of being an American, et al.

....To the last point, you destroyed that argument and pissed of the citizens of this town to the point that the politicians will do whatever they need to to keep their seats, which will be to employ in some or total fashion all of the above tactics....

in shot children, you had your fun - if you come back, we will have ours

  11. dear kiddies, here is the plan

The politicians will be sure to cater to you and make promises and sing kum-bye-ya

Then they will enforce the will of the people of this town and make you very unwelcome, and you will never see it coming..

why don't you test it out to see how they handle it? When the Mayor AND the police chief go to Gov. Hogan for help, they have given up on working with you.....they go to him for two reasons....more money to employ measures and the National Guard.

You did it to yourselves - enjoy your little videos

  12. I just love all the idiots that think beating them to a pulp and taking their property, and even calling out the national guard are "solutions." Yes you all are idiots, overreacting in a colossal way. When the group offers suggestions for easing the situation, you guys just call for more of the same. Guess what, the kids are going to give OC more of the same if you can't even engage in a dialog with them. That's just stupid to think you can threaten them with banishment. If a free society, it can't be done. You think the kids are stupid, but they know you are wrong. Accommodate them, and the challenge is off. They won't even WANT to come to OC and spend their money with the people that have proven to be such assholes over this. I don't even need to read the responses to my comment. You people have one-track minds and are soooo predictable. The kids are coming back, whether you like it or not. The reasoned response would be to mange it, not fight it. But there's not a reasoned response in the whole batch.

  13. At 12:42: "WTF did you just ramble on about??"
I think he or she was trying to say that the feel-good fixes to the situation would never work, and tough, legal, fair law enforcement is the only thing this group would understand.
    I agree.
BTW, OC has never banned this crowd from coming to town. Just as with the Bike Week, the city initially, for a few years, took a step back to see how it played out before giving their blessing, sanctioning the event. Many locals thought Bike Week would be the end of the town, but instead it has turned into a safe, extremely profitable week in OC, on a par with the big three holiday weekends. The car people aren't interested in that though, they just want to raise hell, that's all.

The only idiot is you. All the things they want are illegal. Check out the State Of Maryland Motor Vehicle Code of Conduct. Overreacting? When these little pukes come to town and terrorize it, how is that overreacting? You had to see the video of the moron doing a burnout and hitting 2 spectators then driving off. The video of the guy showing a gun, the video of the banana's running across the street as an ambulance is trying to get to a call. How the fu*k do you propose we "manage" that sh*t?

  15. I have lived here long enough to remember local places like the Oaks Drive In. Guys and Gals with “hot rods” were consider undesirables by some. Really, too bad. Lots of those young people became successful business owners, have lovely families, volunteer tirelessly, and so much more. While some of the people at this event were unruly hoodlums, many were just young people who love cars and often are gifted mechanics. They brought their families. The look forward to this all year. Isn’t there already enough hate in the world. I’d really like to see the city and some of the car owners sit and have a genuine conversation about a win-win solution.
