Following a tense Saturday morning balloting session, Maryland Democrats elected a new party leader, Maya Rockeymoore Cummings — rebuking the favorite of the party establishment, Kathleen Matthews, who had served as chairwoman for the past two years and who oversaw a 2018 coordinated campaign that delivered for down-ballot candidates but left the governorship in Republican hands.
The vote, taken at a union hall in Lanham, was 438-319.
Cummings campaigned for the post noting dissatisfaction with the outcome of the gubernatorial race ― Republicans have now won three of the last five in the state ― and a promise to bring more inclusiveness to the state party organization. She pledged to create a state party platform and a permanent candidate academy.
Cummings also committed to dedicate resources to rural areas, to rebuild the party there, including to subsidize year-round organizers, host quarterly town halls and run a Democrat in every race.

President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agree to temporary trade war ceasefire at dinner summit
President Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping reached an agreement on trade Saturday night, the White House press secretary said, that amounts to a temporary stand-down in the two countries' trade war.
At the leaders' highly anticipated dinner summit in Buenos Aires, Trump agreed to hold off on raising tariffs imposed on Chinese imports, and China agreed to purchase an as-yet-unspecified "very substantial" amount of U.S. products to reduce the trade deficit. With those concessions made, the two sides will allow 90 days for broader negotiations over Chinese trade practices before the U.S. resumes ramping up retaliatory measures.
“This was an amazing and productive meeting with unlimited possibilities for both the United States and China," Trump said in a statement provided by the White House. "It is my great honor to be working with President Xi.”

Cummings says U.S. must let caravan migrants enter: 'That's the law'
Rep. Elijah Cummings, ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, said Sunday that caravan migrants seeking asylum should be able to enter the country immediately, challenging President Trump’s efforts to keep them in Mexico while their cases are processed.
“That’s not the law. They should be allowed to come in, seek asylum. That’s the law,” Mr. Cummings said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
Asked if he would support changing the law, the Maryland Democrat said, “No.”

Sen. Cardin: Trump Policies Have 'Caused Anxiety at the Border'
President Donald Trump is to blame for stoking “anxiety” at the U.S.-Mexico border, Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., said in an interview on CNN’s “New Day” on Monday.
"We are looking at children being subject to tear gas and that's the United States causing that, and that's outrageous," Cardin said, referring to American authorities using tear gas on migrants at the border on Sunday.
According to the senator, the Trump administration is “making the circumstances worse,” with its policies towards migrants attempting to seek asylum.

A Viewer Writes: Harrisburg, Pa.
Hey Joe,
I saw this video on you tube this morning, and there is such a parallel to what is happening in Salisbury. If we continue down the road that Jake Day is taking us, and the good old boys system we will end up just like Harrisburg. Such a shame. We need credible leadership and fresh ideas to bring us back from the brink. I made Salisbury my home 13 years ago and have regretted it ever since. I am looking for a place to move to where I can find decent employment and opportunity, but I will have to sell my home and take a huge loss. Shame on the leaders of this once thriving little gem of a town.

Cummings: 'The American People Said They Want Robust and Transparent Investigations' of Trump
Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) said in the midterm elections that the American people “said they want robust and transparent investigations” into President Donald Trump.
Cummings said, “Let’s be abundantly clear, the American people said to us through this election we want accountability we want to check on this president the United States. But they also said something they said we want you to solve our problems. And a lot of our emphasis is going to be on and laser-focus on things like the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs, protecting our healthcare, dealing with issues like opioids and one that is near and dear to me, voting rights. We are going to look at all of that.”

Pelosi: I'm Attacked Because as an 'Effective' Woman I'm a 'Real Threat'
Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said she was attacked because if one was as effective as a woman as she was, “then they have to undermine you.”
Pelosi said, “I get some names called, because if you’re effective as a woman, then they have to undermine you because that’s a real threat. So I’m probably more of a target than anybody other than somebody who runs for president.”

Maryland's Oyster Population Collapses, Sparks "Overfished" Fears
In the 1600s, oysters in the Chesapeake Bay were so plentiful that these saltwater bivalve molluscs were filtering the bay's waters once a week.
As the Industrial Revolution kicked off new manufacturing processes in the period from about 1760 to between 1820 and 1840, the number of Chesapeake oysters began to decline due to over-harvesting.
In the last several decades, public and private interests in reviving the bay have stabilized oyster populations, but, according to a new study, the population has collapsed.

Uber CEO: in 10 Years, You wont own a car
During a segment that aired on “CNN Newsroom” on Tuesday, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in a decade that he envisioned a scenario where people will not own a car.
Khosrowshahi was asked about what that world would look like in ten years in an interview with CNN Business senior technology correspondent Laurie Segall.
“Hopefully, you won’t own a car,” Khosrowshahi repled. “You will essentially come to us, and we’ll give you the choice whether you want to take regular Uber or you want to pool with someone. But we’re also going to show you this is a bus stop that the bus is going to be coming in six minutes from now — that you can take the bus today or the electric bike or scooter today as well. We want to give you every single choice.”
When asked about the possibility of humans becoming irrelevant, Khosrowshahi predicted it wouldn’t be a society completely lacking the human element given difficulties of navigating some circumstances.

Clintons Face Empty Seats As Trump-Trashing Speaking Tour Kicks Off With A Coughing Fit
Just 3,300 tickets were sold in the Scotiabank Arena in downtown Toronto, which holds 19,800.
Having seen donations to their ‘foundation’ collapse by 90% since they failed in their bid to regain The White House, The Clintons decided a 13-city paid speaking tour was in order to scrape together some coin.

Unfortunately, as the image above shows, the supposed-power-couple’s draw is starting to fade as the Daily Mail reports that just 3,300 tickets were sold in the Scotiabank Arena in downtown Toronto, which holds 19,800.
