Trump Threatens To "Get Involved" In DOJ Fight, Schumer Flips Out

President Trump in a series of Wednesday morning tweets, lashed out against the Mueller probe and the Department of Justice - threatening to "use the powers granted to the Presidency and get involved."

The complaints follow the leak of approximately four-dozen questions the Special Counsel would like to ask the President, ranging from what Trump knew about alleged Russian efforts to interfere with the 2016 US election, to whether he tried to obstruct justice when he fired former FBI Director James Comey.

Trump and his legal team are engaged in ongoing negotiations with special counsel Robert Mueller's team over whether the president will agree to be interviewed as part of the Russia (and now Stormy Daniels) investigation. Mueller warned Trump's lawyers in a March meeting that he could issue a subpoena for the President to testify before a grand jury, according to four people familiar with the situation.

Nationally Recognized Veterans' Advocate Removed from High School Ceremony for Being Conservative

The Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School District in Massachusetts worked with their local VFW chapter to dedicate a newly constructed foyer to alumni who were killed in combat while serving in the armed forces. A dedication ceremony scheduled for May 21 will highlight veterans and their sacrifices for their nation and their community. Kyle Reyes, an alumnus of the school, was scheduled as the keynote speaker. Now, the superintendent has removed Reyes from the program. The reason? Reyes is an unapologetic Christian conservative.

Reyes is a public speaker, runs a marketing firm, and has been named the national spokesman for Law Enforcement Today. He is passionate about supporting veterans and first responders, having created over 160 episodes of Behind The Uniforms. Reyes uses this video series to highlight the men and women who serve in the armed forces and first responders, giving them a spotlight and the opportunity to tell their stories.

Imagine his surprise when he got the news he's been branded an anti-gay bigot.

The school superintendent thinks Reyes would make the students feel unsafe. That’s the message delivered to Reyes, anyway.

The World Wants Its Gold Back From the U.S.

We’re all familiar with the so-called “run on the bank.” It usually begins quietly with just a few depositors getting nervous about the solvency of the bank.

They line up to get their cash out before the bank closes its doors. Soon the word spreads and the line gets longer. The bank projects an air of confidence and gives cash to depositors who request it as long as they can, but pretty soon the cash runs out.

The classic image of this is the scene from the Christmas-season film It’s a Wonderful Life, with Jimmy Stewart. We’ve all seen it. Now something similar is happening at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

John Fund: Democrats embrace sleazy Sen. Menendez, despite Ethics Committee saying he discredited Senate

Three-quarters of Senate Democrats asked Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., to resign last December after six women accused him of forcibly kissing or groping them over a decade earlier – before he joined the Senate. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said Franken had to go due to “a higher obligation to his constituents and the Senate.” Under pressure, Franken resigned.

Fast forward to late last week. The bipartisan Senate Ethics Committee unanimously issued a brutal finding that New Jersey Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez had brought “discredit upon the Senate.” It found he had done political favors “well beyond Senate norms” for a corrupt friend in exchange for expensive gifts and vacations.

But even though the committee found Menendez had violated federal law over a six-year period by not reporting the gifts, the only sanction he was given was an order to repay the fair market value of the gifts and update his financial disclosure forms.

NBC San Francisco: Trump Is ‘Far More Liked Than Nancy Pelosi’

Scott McGrew, an anchor and reporter for NBC's San Francisco affiliate, on Wednesday said President Donald Trump is "far more liked" by Americans than House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.).

McGrew reported on Pelosi's announcement Tuesday about her plans to run for House Speaker if the Democrats regain the majority in the House of Representatives after the midterm elections this fall.

"This may not be good news for Democrats. Republicans use Pelosi as a cudgel in their ads to convince people not to vote for Democrats, and they're not wrong [to do so]," McGrew said. "We might like Nancy Pelosi in the Bay Area, but America doesn't."

He then cited a NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll to list organizations and people who are more popular than Pelosi.

N.J. Union Honcho Brags About 'Bending the Truth' to Defend Abusive, Drugged-Out, Shoplifting Teachers

It's no secret that teachers' unions have a habit of protecting bad teachers to the detriment of the nation's students, but how far will they go to protect an incompetent—even abusive—teacher?

That question is answered in Project Veritas' latest undercover investigation targeting Hamilton Township Education Association (HTEA), a teachers' union in New Jersey.

In the videos below, a Project Veritas (PV) undercover journalist gets Dr. David Perry, president of HTEA, to admit on tape that his union is willing to "bend the truth" to "defend even the worst people" and hide a potential crime.

California Businessman Running for Senate in Both California, Florida

California businessman Roque "Rocky" De La Fuente successfully qualified Tuesday to become a Republican candidate for Senate in Florida, despite already being on the ballot for Senate in California.

De La Fuente, a multi-millionaire San Diego developer, will face Gov. Rick Scott (R., Fla.) in the Aug. 28 Republican primary after he qualified to be a candidate, according to the Associated Press.
De La Fuente is already on the ballot for U.S. Senate in his home state of California. He has run for several offices in the past. He ran for U.S. Senate in Florida in 2016 and was defeated in the Democratic primary.

In a phone interview, De La Fuente maintained it's legal for him to run in two states as long as he's living in the state before he's sworn into office. He says he already owns property in Florida.

House lawmakers formally nominate Trump for 2019 Nobel Peace Prize

A group of 18 Republican lawmakers have signed their names to a letter formally nominating President Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize -- the latest development in a growing push to award the president the honor for his work toward peace in the Korean Peninsula.

The letter, sent by Rep. Luke Messer, R-Ind. to the Norwegian Nobel Committee on Tuesday, and signed by 17 other members, says Trump has worked “tirelessly to apply maximum pressure to North Korea to end its illicit weapons programs and bring peace to the region.”

“His Administration successfully united the international community, including China, to impose one of the most successful international sanctions regimes in history,” the letter says. “The sanctions have decimated the North Korean economy and have been largely credited for bringing North Korea to the negotiating table.”

Nancy Pelosi Confirms She Will Be Speaker if Democrats Win Midterm Election

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) confirmed Tuesday afternoon to the Boston Globe that she intends to serve as Speaker of the House if Democrats win the 2018 midterm election.

“We will win. I will run for speaker. I feel confident about it. And my members do, too,” Pelosi told the Globe in an interview in Boston.

Pelosi served as the nation’s first female Speaker of the House from 2007 to 2011. She was known for centralizing power in the Speaker’s office and backed the late Rep. John Murtha (D-PA), widely seen as corrupt, over Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) in the race for House Majority Leader. (Hoyer won and has served as Pelosi’s deputy ever since.) Congress also passed massive increases in domestic spending on Pelosi’s watch.

Democrats and the Trump impeachment trap

Former President George W. Bush was in terrible political shape in the spring of 2006. The Iraq War was going disastrously and voters were tired of the president, whose job approval rating in the RealClearPolitics average of polls was around 35 percent. (Bush's disapproval rating was around 60 percent.) The upcoming November '06 midterms were shaping up as a debacle for Republicans, who seemed likely to lose control of both houses of Congress.

Things were so bad that a part of the Democratic base looked toward the midterms openly hoping to impeach Bush on the charge that he lied the country into war. One leader of that movement was Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, who stood to become chairman of the House Judiciary Committee if Democrats won. Conyers' committee would originate articles of impeachment.

The problem, for Democrats, was voters. Now matter how much they wanted to make changes on Capitol Hill, and no matter how much they disapproved of Bush, they didn't want to impeach the president. Democratic candidates were stuck between their anti-Bush base and the larger electorate.

Maryland Fishing Report

Warmer and more seasonable weather has finally descended upon the Maryland landscape, offering a wonderful time to enjoy the outdoors. The warm air temperatures and sunny weather, along with relatively cool water temperatures make for perfect fishing conditions in many local waters.
Community ponds, trout management waters and lakes offer fun shoreline fishing adventures that are particularly tuned for children. Many are stocked with bluegills, and some are stocked with trout and set aside for youth fishing. There are also fishing rodeos and other youth events held all over the state.
Weekly Fishing Conditions Forecast Summary: May 2-9, 2018
Bay water temperatures should quickly rise into the low and mid-60s and speed up the progression of rockfish spawning and shad moving into the upper bay creeks, now lined with bluebell and may apple.
Maryland’s portion of the bay continues to have suitable oxygen conditions from surface to bottom. In addition, there are slightly warmer surface water temperatures, so anglers may want to scan these shallower areas for fish during conditions of moving water and low light, after sunset and before sunrise.
Main bay water temperatures are in the high 50s as reported from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration buoys at Annapolis, Gooses Reef and Potomac River near Point Lookout State Park. Temperatures should increase through the week and expect temperatures in smaller, dark-bottomed shallow creeks to hold much warmer temperatures. As tides empty the water in these warm creeks, look for nearby structure to target feeding gamefish.
Expect above-average flows for the Susquehanna River and average flows for the Potomac and for smaller rivers and streams entering the bay. There will be above-average tidal currents through Thursday as a result of the full moon April 30.
For the full weekly fishing conditions summary and more detailed and up-to-date fishing conditions in your area of the bay, be sure to check out Click Before You Cast.

America's Prescription Drug Epidemic: "Making Us Sicker"

The United States has one of the highest rates in the world of prescription drug use, especially for the psychiatric and anti-anxiety drug classes:
  • 1 in 6 Americans takes a psychiatric drug
  • Over a 130,000 U.S. toddlers, children between zero and five years of age, are prescribed addictive anti-anxiety drugs including the wildly-addictive and difficult to stop using benzodiazepines
  • A very high proportion of the school shootings in the U.S. were committed by young adults on such drugs.
The benefits of these drugs are marketed to us daily, but what about the downsides? What about the side effects? More importantly, do they even work? What does  the data tell us?
To answer these questions, we talk this week with Robert Whitaker, an American Journalist and author who has won numerous awards as a journalist covering medicine and science. In 1998 he co-wrote a series on psychiatric research for the Boston Globe that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for public service. His first book, Mad in America, was named by Discover Magazine as one of the best science books of 2002 and his book Anatomy of an Epidemic won the 2010 investigative reporters and editor’s book award for best investigative journalism. He's also the publisher of MadinAmerica.com.

Iowa Legislature Passes Legislation Banning Abortion When Fetal Heartbeat Is Detected

The Iowa State Legislature passed legislation on Wednesday aimed at banning abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected.

If Gov. Kim Reynolds (R.) signs the "heartbeat bill" into law, it will almost definitely spark legal challenges from abortion supporters who find it too restricting, the Associated Press reports.

The bill is currently on the way to the governor's desk, and many expect her to sign it. Reynolds hasn't spoken about the bill, but her press secretary said the governor "is 100 percent pro-life and will never stop fighting for the unborn."

Ticks, the carriers of Lyme disease, seem to be the most dangerous — accounting for 63 percent of the reported illnesses.

On an evening outdoors in Anne Arundel County on Tuesday, a cyclist told WJZ’s Ava-joye Burnett that she plans on making changes.

Tens of thousands’ worth of bad food tossed

One of the first things personnel with the Matt Ortt Companies have had to do as they take over operations of the Ocean Pines yacht and beach clubs is dispose an excess of inventory, apparently bought at season’s end last year.

Making that job worse, much of the food stuffs went bad, exploded or became useless in some other way months ago.

Ralph DeAngelus, cofounder of the companies, addressed some of the inventory issues at last Thursday’s town hall meeting and added details in a phone interview last Friday.

“We’ve had to throw away about 150 cases of bottled sodas from the beach club basement that were left piled up there at the end of the summer, that froze and thawed and froze and exploded and thawed,” DeAngelus said.

He said about 100 cases of “bag in the boxes” flavors for soda fountain drinks worth about $6,500 also had to be thrown away.

Man Tried To Drown Himself, Now Suing Police Who Saved His Life

FAIRFAX, VA (CBS Local) – A Virginia pool worker, who tried to drown himself during a bipolar episode, is now suing the police officers and lifeguard who saved him because they allegedly took too long to do it.

The Details:

  • Mateusz Fijalkowski is suing police for taking too long to save his life
  • Fijalkowski tried to drown himself in May 2016 during a bipolar episode
  • Fairfax police say they acted properly and call the lawsuit “frivolous”
  • Fijalkowski wants the officers who saved him to pay all his medical bills

Lawyers for Mateusz Fijalkowski filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court on April 27, claiming that first responders violated the drowning man’s constitutional rights by not doing more to prevent Fijalkowski from harming himself.

Movie Theater Returning To West Ocean City

WEST OCEAN CITY – A new movie theater is coming to the White Marlin Mall in West Ocean City.

Flagship Cinemas, a privately held company that owns and operates movie theaters in Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Florida, is expected to open a new location in the West Ocean City shopping center by early next year.

The movie theater will take over the space currently occupied by Michaels. Officials said the arts and crafts retailer will be moving out of the White Marlin Mall and into a nearby commercial space later this year.

Paul Wenger, president of Flagship Cinemas, said Greenberg Gibbons, owners of the White Marlin Mall, approached the company with an offer to open a location in West Ocean City. This will not be the first entertainment venue to occupy space in the shopping center, however. In years past, for example, a Fox Theater occupied the space that is currently home to the Michaels store.

Chief: No Concerns With OCPD After Shuffling Retirements, Promotions

OCEAN CITY — The shuffle at the top of the Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) continued last month with another significant promotion, but despite an apparent experience drain this year, there is no concern about the quality of officers moving up the ranks in the department.

The OCPD announced recently Lieutenant Ray Austin has been promoted to the rank of captain and will take over as the commander of the Criminal Investigation Division. Austin’s promotion comes on the heels of the retirement of long-time Captain Kevin Kirstein, who was feted with a retirement ceremony at City Hall.

Kirstein’s retirement was the fourth significant retirement within the last year and the sixth in the last 18 months. Collectively, the four high-ranking OCDP officers that have retired since last May, including Kirstein, Lieutenant Todd Wodd, Lieutenant Mark Pacini and Detective Corporal Brett Case, roughly had 120 years of experience with the department combined.

PETA makes unwelcome name change suggestion to Slaughter Beach

SLAUGHTER BEACH — An animal rights organization, in a letter mailed to the mayor Tuesday, has asked Slaughter Beach to consider changing its name to Sanctuary Beach.

A follow-up press release from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) said the group thought the town’s name ought to be changed to something “kinder, positive and more appropriate” as to not evoke imagery of “dead and dying animals.”

Slaughter Beach Mayor Harry Ward said he was bewildered by the letter.

“I find them to be presumptuous, disrespectful, and self-serving,” he said. “That an organization many miles away, with so little knowledge of our town, history and culture, would presume to know what’s best for us is incredible to me.”

PETA is based in Norfolk, Virginia.

Rep. Todd Rokita: Overlooking Comey’s Potential Crimes ‘Cannot be Tolerated’

While James Comey jet sets across the country selling books and espousing misinformation about our President, he is hiding from the truth.

Comey, like many other Obama appointees, including Hillary Clinton and Loretta Lynch, has ignored our laws and have gotten away with it. This bypass of due diligence has been dismissively overlooked due to their connections to high-powered, politically-connected friends. This cannot be tolerated. The truth must prevail and justice must be served.

Today, we see the law ignored for the political elite while they are being bestowed with special treatment and free passes. This became abundantly clear in the waning years of the Obama era, where officials across our government ignored or violated our laws. This has not stopped them from continuing on in their practices, care-free of further inquiry or investigation.

Maryland orders Exelon to shoulder Conowingo pollution reductions

After years of study and haggling over how to deal with the impact of Conowingo Dam on the Chesapeake Bay, the Hogan administration has ordered the hydropower facility’s operator to reduce nutrient pollution passing through the dam on its way down the Susquehanna River — or pay up to $172 million a year for someone else to do it.

The Maryland Department of the Environment announced Friday that it had issued a condition-laden water quality certification needed by the utility before it could receive a new federal license to continue operating the hydroelectric dam. The 59-page document directs the facility’s owner, Exelon Corp., to take a series of steps to help spawning fish over the 94-foot high dam, to produce a more natural river flow and to improve fish habitat and water quality.

MDE directed Exelon, which is seeking a new 50-year license for Conowingo, to make annual reductions of 6 million pounds of nitrogen and 260,000 pounds of phosphorus in the lower Susquehanna below the dam. Those are the amount of nutrient reductions studies have indicated are needed to offset the impact of the dam on Upper Bay water quality. If the company does not make those reductions itself, then the MDE directed it to pay “in-lieu fees” if nothing else is done to reduce the nutrient flows.

Attorney General Frosh Joins Coalition of 17 States to Defend National Clean Car Rules

BALTIMORE, MD – Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh today joined a coalition of 17 states and the District of Columbia in suing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to preserve the greenhouse gas emission standards currently in place for model year 2022-2025 vehicles. The standards save drivers money at the pump, reduce oil consumption, and curb greenhouse gases.

“Reversing course in the country’s efforts to reduce air pollution from passenger vehicles endangers the health of our children and our environment,” said Attorney General Frosh. “Weakening these common sense standards undermines successful efforts made by states, including Maryland, to combat greenhouse gas emissions.”
