A Viewer Writes: Local Media Coverage

SBYNEWS, I have a Huge beef with Vienna Volunteer FD And WBOC, here is why. On June 22 a elderly woman and with ALZHEIMER'S in Vienna went missing the FD did a search of the Nanticoke River (the boat ramp) but because it was raining they stopped because they couldn't see too much. Your local WBOC channel had ZERO MEDIA COVERAGE ON TV. Well 3 weeks go by and they A LOCAL PERSON saw the car. Where is it? It's in the BOAT RAMP area where the IDIOT VIENNA FD searched beforehand. My question is why didn't they do ANOTHER SEARCH after the rain was OVER? WHY didn't the local CLUELESS MEDIA cover this on TV? And why wasn't there a SILVER ALERT for her? Her body sat in her Carr for 3 WEEKS at the bottom of the boat ramp rotting. This was a TOTAL FAILURE of the Vienna FD, WBOC, MSP and the Dorchester County PD for not Issuing a SILVER ALERT the whole but if there is a SPAGHETTI dinner there everyone will show up, SMH.

  1. Seen this yesterday it was a total failure with the Vienna fd the cheif there needs to be Fired also WBOC only cares about Delaware potholes why wasn't there a Silver alert for her 3 weeks ago what does the MSP and dcso have to say about this ?

  5. So sorry for your loss
The Law enforcement Agency that took the missing person report is who you should direct your concerns to
The FD is a asset that assisted only
Silver alert / press etc. The Law enforcement agency that took the report is in control of such .
The water along this river is very brackish making it hard to see all the time
    Again sorry for your loss

  6. WBOC is not the only source of news on the shore. SBYNews did not list it either. Did no one use the boat ramp for three weeks? Did the family keep in contact with the police depts involved? At the time of the rain was it day or night? Was it a heavy rain as was frequent to our area during the time period. If the lady had ALZHEIMER'S why hadn't keys and or car been removed from her? Who told the Vienna FD to look for her? There are many unanswered questions. This is a tragic situation and IMO the family should have pursued finding her in all ways possible. It sounds like that may not have been the case.

  8. Very sad loss. 10:08 asks a lot of valid questions, there is more to this than the angry rant from the writer.

  9. Rain or not the viability in any waterways within Maryland are Brackish. There are multiple teams throughout the State and lower shore that could have helped. BC it was raining and visibility was poor, doesn't mean you can't SCUBA. Regardless the surface weather conditions absent lightening or wind, you can dive this small location and would have found a car quickly with a specific search pattern. The Maryland State Police have one of the best dive teams in the State along with other police departments and SFD team. Very sad in these times local fire departments are unaware of their local resources. Prayer for the Family

  12. A.) This was the jurisdiction of the DNR to conduct this search in the water and the Dorchester sheriff to organize.

B.) Assistance from VFD was not requested by either organization and did not participate in the search.

C.) The VFD does not have a dive team. That is completely false.

D.) The chief of VFD is more than willing to help with any operation if requested again, VFD was not engaged.

E.) This was written by someone who is clearly not active within the fire dept or able to form a coherent sentence.

Instead of bashing the fire dept and it's chief who did nothing wrong, why don't you invest in spell/grammar check, form a complete thought and post an actual story instead of someone's rant who clearly has an issue with the dept for reasons other than Mrs. Danner's case.

    1. Your telling me Vfd had nothing to do with a search in the water in Vienna ? Why not it's right there in there town I will look that up online to see if they where there along with radio chatter and since you know so much Why weren't they assigned ? Mr know it all.

      Delete
    2. Oh wait... NOW you will look it up online? Shouldn't that be step one before people make assumptions? I know this because I am sitting here with VFD.

Furthermore, it was a missing persons case so they had no idea if Mrs Danner was really in the water. It wasn't like there was an accident and they KNEW a car was in the water, that is the type of call that VFD would be a part of. THAT is why VFD was not involved along with the fact local police agencies did not request assistance. DNR was the group conducting the search of boat ramps and the water, not VFD.

  14. Thats funny you mention the fact that it was raining during the search we did not conduct. The last rain was 6/9, she did not go missing until 10 days after that. Stop being a troll and get your facts straight before you start shooting your mouth off.

  15. How do you fire a volunteer? That shows your mentality first off. Secondly, I have known the chief since the day he was born. He has been a dedicated member since being a junior menber. He would do anything necessary for the town, fire department and the missing person whom he knew personally, as did I. For arrogant people to ASSume things about wonderful people they know absolutely nothing about is ignorant. How should they have known that the missing person was even in the river, there were absolutely no clues for weeks. It’s an unfortunate event, but I’m not sure why the blame is being placed on a volunteer fire company with limited resources, when police were already involved as well. Get a clue and learn to form a coherent thought and sentence before you post anything else because apparently you are absolutely clueless.

  16. If anyone has anything they feel the need to share with my husband, NOT ANONYMOUSLY, Vienna’s VOLUNTEER fire chief why don’t you contact the chief or myself directly. I will be glad to link up anywhere, anytime to get your facts straight— A volunteer company is just that, volunteers who assist where they are told. If you ONLY KNEW HOW MUCH TIME IS DEDICSTED TO HELPING THE COMMUNITY...You all are nothing but a bunch of assholes with ZERO facts. I SURELY hope that you don’t rely on a fire company should you ever need one....but oh wait that’s riggt don’t we all?? Have a little respect. Such a shame...and I find myself wondering what Did you do to make a difference or help with this tragic situation ? I assume nothing besides point fingers...here’s an idea, since you seem to think ppl should do so much better go or tomor and submit an application to your local VOLUNTEER fire company and make an actual difference instead of being a computer keyboard hero.

A shame that someone has to make more turmoil on top of a tragic situation. You all need mental help.

  17. So vfd sat in quarters on the day she was reported missing ? Her house is 2 blocks away from the fire department and 50 ft away from the boat ramp and vfd sat in quarters and didn't even start the truck up ? K got it now.

    1. The day she was reported missing doesn’t even classify her as a missing person- how would anyone know she was reported missing until it was broadcasted that she was actually listed as a missing person And a silver alert sent out, which was sent out and broadcasted over the scanners - no disrespect by this but it’s a fact that until a certain length of time has passed a person is not actually considered Missing- ppl do have the right to go places without advising the world and sadly time has to pass to officially be missing. I know many people go missing for a day or so...running errands, visiting friends... Once she was declared Missing (which is different then Reported...want to make sure I am clear on that since you obviously do not know the difference) a silver alert was sent and the investigation was NOT in the fire depts hands. A fire dept (like Vienna VOLUNTEER COMPANY) responds to active accidents to assist and or resolve - at no time were they called to assist in a search for Mrs. Sharon, many members on their OWN TIME actively looked for Mrs Sharon. Nobody sits in quarters as it is a VOLUNTEER company the members are not PAID to be there unlike some cities with paid fireman / emts.

If you would like to volunteer your time feel free to go get an application, I can provide you with an address and meet you to ensure you are given one...Your psychic abilities are fascinating and could be a great asset, to law enforcement agencies, and fire depts alike...Truly. However, before you point fingers you need to do a little research and learn which agencies are responsible for what.

This is someone’s mother, and as I can tell you are clearly bothered but I’m pretty sure I never saw one single person who was a non volunteer , non member regular everyday civilian searching the Nanticoke with their dive equipment. Which please note Vienna is not equipped with Divers and one final thing...I am wondering

May I ask what you did when she was REPORTED TO THE POLICE AS missing?
Or how about what did you do when she was ACTIVELY LISTED AS MISSING W/ a silver alert?
What exactly is your problem with the fire dept? Considering they are not in the wrong during this most unfortunate time as many mourn the loss of a friend, neighbor and member of our community.

I’ll wait and please list your name let’s not hide behind the screen

The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department is an asset?

Did you know that the same volunteer fire department is being investigated for embezzlement? Did you know that it was a big family affair embezzling funds?
