Record Muskie Caught in Washington County

Tessa Cosens Hauls in 32.5-Pound Fish

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources confirmed a Washington County woman has set a new muskellunge (muskie) nontidal state fishing record.

Tessa Cosens, 26, caught a muskie recorded at 32.5 pounds May 6 along the banks of the upper Potomac River in Washington County.

The record fish was 49 inches long with a 24-inch girth.

A relative newcomer to muskie fishing, Cosens – who is several months pregnant and had been feeling under the weather – was fishing along the riverbank using a 7-foot muskie rod and double-spinner. She snagged her record catch after a 15-minute struggle.

“All the guys around me stopped fishing and looked at me,” Cosens said. “There is no other fish that fights like a muskie.”

Muskie’s are one of the largest freshwater fish in the state. Cosens’ catch broke the previous Maryland record of 31.75 pounds, set by Kenneth Files in 2011.

To help determine the age of the fish, Cosens is donating a sample of the muskie’s scales and cleithrum – a large bone above the gills – to the department for further analysis.

The department maintains state records for sport fish in four divisions – Atlantic, Chesapeake, Nontidal and Invasive – and awards plaques to anglers who achieve record catches. Fish caught from privately-owned, fee-fishing waters are not eligible for record consideration.

Anglers reporting a potential record catch should call 443-569-1381 or 410-260-8325. The fish should be immersed in ice water to preserve its weight until it can be checked, confirmed and certified by the department.

WI schools block social media access for students

MADISON, Wis. – The Madison, Wisconsin school district is blocking students’ access to social media sites at several schools during the school day as part of a pilot project aimed at reengaging students.

School officials at East High School and Wright and Cherokee Middle Schools killed access to Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and dozens of other social media sites on May 1, and West High School followed suit on Monday.

The plan is to track students at the schools through the end of the year to determine if the change made any impact on student behavior, academics, and school safety, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.

“Our students who are the most disengaged are typically the ones who are stuck on their phones and walking the halls with their heads down,” East High School Principal Mike Hernandez said. “I call it the zombie walk, and unfortunately it can lead to students making poor choices on social media with Instagram and Facebook Live.”

The reaction from students and parents is mixed, with some recognizing the need to crack down on bullying that often takes place online and others who believe the censorship goes too far, Fox 61 reports.

ICE-led gang surge nets 1,378 arrested nationwide

HSI Gang op
*** B-roll and photos of the operation available here.
WASHINGTON — A six-week nationwide gang operation led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) concluded this weekend with 1,378 arrests across the United States – the largest gang surge conducted by HSI to date. The operation targeted gang members and associates involved in transnational criminal activity, including drug trafficking, weapons smuggling, human smuggling and sex trafficking, murder and racketeering.
Of the 1,378 total arrested, 1,098 were arrested on federal and/or state criminal charges, including 21 individuals arrested on murder related charges and seven for rape and sexual assault charges. The remaining 280 were arrested on administrative immigration violations. Of the total arrested, 933 were U.S. citizens and 445 were foreign nationals from 21 countries in South and Central America, Asia, Africa, Europe and the Caribbean.
Numerous state, local and federal law enforcement partners, including ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), participated in the HSI-led operation, which ran March 26 to May 6.
“Gangs threaten the safety of our communities, not just in major metropolitan areas but in our suburbs and rural areas, too,” said ICE Acting Director Thomas Homan. “Gang-related violence and criminal activity present an ongoing challenge for law enforcement everywhere. Our efforts to dismantle gangs are much more effective in areas where partnership with local law enforcement is strongest.”
Of the 1,378 total arrested, 1,095 were confirmed as gang members and affiliates –  including 137 affiliated with the Bloods, 118 with the Sureños, 104 with MS-13, and 104 with the Crips. The remaining 283 claimed no gang affiliation but were arrested on either criminal or administrative charges.

Erdogan Urges Muslims to Swarm Temple Mount

TEL AVIV — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday urged Muslims to visit the Temple Mount to act as a counter to the “insult” of “occupied Jerusalem,” and called Israel a “racist and discriminatory” state that is reminiscent of apartheid.

Erdogan also met with Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah to work on “unifying efforts to protect Jerusalem against attempts of Judaization,” the independent Palestinian Maan news agency reported.

“We, as Muslims, should be visiting Al-Quds more often,” he said, referring to Jerusalem by its Arabic name.

Erdogan said more Muslim visits to the Jerusalem holy site “would be the greatest support to our brothers there.”

“Both in terms of our religion and historical responsibility, Al-Quds and the fight of our Palestinian brothers for rights and justice is of great importance to us. We will keep making efforts for Quds to turn into a city of peace,” he added.

Top Honduran Official Predicts Exodus After Texas Enacts Anti-Sanctuary City Law

Honduras’ deputy foreign minister is preparing for an exodus of Hondurans from Texas after the state outlawed sanctuary cities.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 4 into law on Sunday night, which calls for criminal penalties for sheriffs and police chiefs whose agencies refuse to comply with federal immigration detainers. Travis County, home to Austin, has refused to comply with dozens of immigration detainers including those for immigrants accused of sexual assault.

A Pew report found that nearly 120,000 Hondurans lived in Texas in 2013, and Andrea Matamoros, Honduras’ deputy foreign minister, told Proceso Digital Monday that she predicts that many Hondurans will flee Texas to other states with more relaxed immigration laws.

Cops: DUI suspect who struck a family returning from Disneyland had been deported 15 times

(CNN) —A mother, father and their 6-year-old son were returning from a trip to Disneyland when, according to the survivors' family, a man in a pickup truck turned a corner, smashed into their car and sped off.

The suspect, Constantino Banda-Acosta, was a man that border agents say had been deported 15 times over the span of 15 years.

In a statement provided to CNN, ICE confirmed that Banda-Acosta "has been repatriated to Mexico at least 15 times since 2002, most recently in January 2017."

He -- and another man arrested in connection with the crash -- were both "Mexican nationals in the country illegally," the statement said.

ICE is planning to take Banda-Acosta into custody once he is released by the San Diego police, who arrested him. He was charged with DUI, hit-and-run and driving without a license.

Rep. Meadows Working on a ‘Grand Compromise’ with the Senate on Health Care

After brokering a deal on health care in the House, Freedom Caucus chairman Rep. Mark Meadows is working on a grand bargain in the Senate.

Meadows (R-NC) told HuffPost that he has been working with the Senate to reflect the more conservative elements that the Freedom Caucus added to the American Health Care Act (AHCA), which passed through the House last week.

The AHCA passed after Meadows brokered a deal with Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-NJ), the co-chairman of the moderate Tuesday Group, to add an amendment that would allow states to waive Obamacare regulations such as community regulations and essential health benefits.

Sources close to the Freedom Caucus confirmed on Monday that Meadows met with the Senate steering committee on health care over the past month to discuss the Senate’s overhaul package.

“He believes there’s a grand compromise to be made if negotiating partners are willing to come to the table,” the source said of Meadows.

OCPD Investigating Multiple Thefts of Standpipe Valves

OCEAN CITY, MD – : The Ocean City Police Department is currently investigating the recent theft of several brass standpipe valves from the stairwells of five mid-town condominium buildings. These valves are utilized by firefighters to fight fires on upper floors and remote areas of the buildings. Not only are they very costly to replace, but missing valves can potentially endanger the lives of residents and firefighters by hampering the ability to fight fires in impacted buildings.

Residents with standpipe systems are encouraged to check their systems immediately to ensure that standpipe valves are intact and report any stolen valves to the Ocean City Police Department at 410-723-6602.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective David Whitmer at 410-520-5390 or dwhitmer@oceancitymd.gov.

Pro-Life Leaders: Collins Spreading Planned Parenthood Misinformation

National pro-life leaders say Sen. Susan Collins is spreading “misinformation” in her statements of support for continued taxpayer funding of America’s largest provider of abortions, Planned Parenthood.

Appearing as a guest Sunday on ABC’s This Week, the Republican senator from Maine said it would be “a mistake” to defund Planned Parenthood in the Republican healthcare bill:

"That is an important issue to me because I don’t think that low-income women should be denied their choice of health care providers, for family planning, cancer screenings, for well-women care. It’s not the only issue in this huge bill. But I certainly think it’s not fair and it is a mistake to defund Planned Parenthood. It’s one of many issues."

CMAT Students Survey 'What Salisbury Needs'

SALISBURY, MD---What does Salisbury need?

Many people — and not just in Salisbury — are finding out, thanks to the work of Salisbury University communication arts students under the direction of Dr. Chrys Egan and Elisabeth Mason.

Last fall, eight students presented survey and interview findings on a variety of proposals to members of the greater community, responding to the prompt “What Salisbury needs is ….”

The students, taking a Communications Research Methods class at SU, initially shared posters with their data during the Salisbury Arts & Enteratinment District’s 3rd Friday celebration in downtown Salisbury. The next month, they made a culminating presentation to stakeholders including the City of Salisbury, SU Dining Services and SU’s Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (PACE).

Topics included an under-21 nightclub, a farm-to-table local food initiative and potential apps for SU events and the University’s Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons.

Berlin Mayor Assures Residents Will Be Kept In Loop On Bay Club’s Future Plans

BERLIN – Mayor Gee Williams assured residents this week that in spite of rumors to the contrary the construction of a campground just outside town was not a “done deal.”

At Monday’s meeting of the Berlin Town Council, resident Cam Bunting, who owns a local real estate company, asked how officials felt about the Carl M. Freeman Companies’ proposal to turn the Bay Club on Libertytown Road into a campground. Williams stressed that town was still waiting for more information on the proposal.

“I keep hearing all these things have been decided,” Williams said. “Whoever is saying that doesn’t know what the hell they’re talking about.”

The possibility of the golf course just outside town limits being turned into a campground has been a hot topic in Berlin since attorney Hugh Cropper shared the developer’s plans last year. In December, Cropper told the council his client was considering turning the 36-hole golf course into a 434-site rental campground.

BREAKING: Largest US Solar Panel Maker Files For Bankruptcy After Receiving $206 Million In Subsidies

The company once hailed as Europe’s largest solar panel producer filed for bankruptcy Wednesday, blaming cheap Chinese panels for flooding the market.

“The ongoing price erosion and the development of the business” has left the company “over-indebted and thus obliged to file for insolvency proceedings,” SolarWorld, which is also the largest U.S. solar panel maker, said in a statement.

The filing comes after SolarWorld was forced to lay off employees earlier this year. The company employs around 3,000 people, including 800 in Hillsboro, Oregon, and was one of the few German-based solar companies to survive a recent market downturn.

SolarWorld is only the latest bankrupt solar company to blame the Chinese. U.S.-based Suniva Inc. filed for bankruptcy in April, also citing stiff competition from Chinese solar panel makers.

Suniva even asked the Trump administration to increase tariffs against Chinese solar panel imports. SolarWorld backed the call, saying China has found ways to circumvent current tariffs.

“The case of Suniva dramatically demonstrates that the U.S. solar manufacturing industry still suffers from unfair trade,” Juergen Stein, U.S. president of SolarWorld, said in a statement.

"Boomerang Kids": Adult Millennials Returning Home Is Crushing Baby Boomer Budgets

We've noted several times in recent months that, despite the 'economic recovery', a record number of young 'adults' are moving back home with mom and dad after college and staying there well into their 30's.

Now, as confirmed by a recent study conducted by Fidelity and the Stanford Center on Longevity, the added stress of caring for all those 'adult' children is putting a severe emotional and financial strain on Baby Boomers with over 75% saying their adult children are cutting into their budgets and over 50% saying they're generally less happy about life. Per Fidelity:

Adult children who move back home is a common event mdash; one in nine Boomer parents surveyed said their kids returned "to the nest" in the past year. And it's taking a toll: 68 percent of parents reported they are more stressed, and more than half said they are less happy (53 percent), less satisfied (54 percent) and have less leisure time (53 percent). Those new housemates come at a cost: 76 percent of parents said they face higher expenses. The health impacts are significant for women, as 46 percent reported sleeping worse and 40 percent reported gaining weight.

At one point in time in America, living at home with mom and dad after crossing out of your teenage years and into your 20s was embarrassing and something that was generally avoided at all costs. And while hard times come and go, 20-somethings who were forced back into their parents' care worked their tails off until they could save up enough money to once again regain their freedom.

That said, these Boomer parents shouldn't expected their basement-dwelling snowflakes to leave the nest, for the second time, anytime in the near future because, as we pointed out a few weeks ago, roughly one-third of all millennials live at home with their parents and one-fourth of them can't be bothered with enrolling in school or finding a job.

FDA approves new drug to fight ALS

WASHINGTON — A new medicine is joining the battle to help people suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the approval of edaravone, which will be sold as Radicava. It is the first new drug on the market in 22 years that aims to slow the progression of ALS.

While it is a new option for people suffering from the potentially fatal disease, Dr. Justin Kwan, assistant professor of neurology at the University of Maryland, said a study of the drug doesn’t include head to head testing against the current treatment, Riluzole.

“It’s difficult to say whether or not it is more effective than the current best treatment,” Kwan said.

Iran to Launch Two New Satellites, Likely Cover for Illicit ICBM Program

Iran is preparing to launch two new domestic satellites into space, according to a new announcement by Iranian military leaders that is stirring discussion among U.S. national security insiders who say the move is likely cover for the test firing of advanced intercontinental ballistic missile technology that could be used as part of Iran's nuclear program.

The latest test comes as the Trump administration continues to engage in a comprehensive review of the Iran nuclear agreement that U.S. officials tell the Washington Free Beacon will result in a full-scale plan to "meet the challenges Iran poses with clarity and conviction."

The Iranian satellite launches also come as Iran engages in an unprecedented effort to reorganize and boost its military so it can serve as an offensive fighting force, a move that has drawn concern among U.S. national security insiders.

Michael Rubin, a former Pentagon adviser and expert on rogue regimes said that U.S. leaders should be paying close attention to the illicit Iranian-North Korean arms trade.

"When it comes to nuclear technology, Iran and North Korea are like sorority sisters swapping clothes or an old married couple sharing a toothbrush," Rubin said. "What happens in Tehran doesn't stay in Tehran."

NY Times Seems Rather Shocked That Legal Immigrants Are Against Illegal Immigration

It’s funny how this works. People spend lots of time and money, and have to follow every law, no matter how small, in order to earn the right to become an actual U.S. citizen, and they aren’t really fond of those who blow off American law by either coming here unlawfully or overstaying their visas, and then demanding that they be made citizens

Sanctuary Bills in Maryland Faced a Surprise Foe: Legal Immigrants

When lawmakers in Howard County, Md., a stretch of suburbia between Washington and Baltimore, declared their intention to make the county a sanctuary for people living in the country illegally, J. D. Ma thought back to how hard he had worked studying English as a boy in Shanghai.

Stanley Salazar, a native of El Salvador, worried that the violent crime already plaguing Maryland’s suburbs attributed to immigrant gangs would eventually touch his own daughters.

Hongling Zhou, who had been a student in Beijing during the Tiananmen Square uprising, feared an influx of undocumented immigrants, and their children, would cripple the public schools.

At first blush, making Howard County a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants had seemed a natural move: The county has twice as many Democrats as Republicans and a highly educated population, full of scientists and engineers. One in five residents was born abroad.

But the bill met stout opposition from an unlikely source: some of those very same foreign-born residents.

It’s only a surprise in Liberal World, where they feel that immigrants who did it the right way, the legal way, would be supportive of those who did it the wrong way, the unlawful way.

Dems Ratchet Up Hysteria: Comey Firing Latest Russian Conspiracy…

While former aides to President Obama and members of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign predictably panned President Donald Trump for firing James Comey as FBI director, it was only a few months ago that Clinton’s campaign repeatedly alleged wrongdoing by Comey over his investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server.

And last October, Obama’s former attorney general, Eric Holder, signed his name to a letter circulated by Clinton’s campaign strongly criticizing Comey’s decision to publicize aspects of the FBI investigation, alleging Comey’s moves were inconsistent with FBI protocol.
In late October, less than two weeks before the presidential election, Comey informed key members of Congress that the FBI was reviewing additional emails that may have been relevant to the Clinton probe. This after emails were reportedly discovered on the personal devices of disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of long-time top Clinton aide Huma Abedin.

Hate Group SPLC’s TV Series to Explore ‘Far-Right Extremism’

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is developing a documentary series centered on “far-right extremism” and President Donald Trump.

The controversial nonprofit is teaming with Black Box Management to produce a six-part documentary series that will explore “the normalization of American far-right extremism in the age of Donald Trump,” according to a statement provided to the Hollywood Reporter.

Black Box co-founder and producer Mike Dill told THR that his Los Angeles-based company plans to start shopping the still-untitled project to potential cable and streaming outlets as early as June.

The SPLC has come under intense scrutiny in recent years for what has been perceived as electioneering, which is illegal for the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Buchanan: Bannon Is ‘Right’ — Media Is the Opposition Party Trying to ‘Bring Down Trump’

Wednesday on Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show,” conservative political commentator Pat Buchanan said White House chief strategist Steve Bannon was correct when he said the media was the opposition party. He added that just like they took down President Richard Nixon, they are attempting to “bring down” President Donald Trump.

Buchanan said, “There is a cultural left and a political left and a media if you will, are a conglomerate. It’s not a conspiracy but it is collusion, and they were determined to break and bring down Nixon from the day he was nominated. They were determined, tried to break, and they succeeded. Tried to break and bring down Reagan over Iran-Contra. I was in the White House then. And the same forces, similar forces are trying to break and bring down Trump. And it’s transparent. It’s right in front of us. You can’t watch those briefings and things, watch TV cable TV and the rest of it without seeing there is a real animus. I mean it’s the White House correspondents’ dinner. Steve Bannon was dead right when he said one thing, the media are the opposition party.”

Suspended for Liking Picture of Airsoft Gun

When the hoplophobic moonbats running public schools say “zero tolerance,” they really mean it, as Zachary Bowlin found out the hard way when he was given a 10-day suspension from Edgewood Middle School in Trenton, Ohio for “liking” a picture of an airsoft gun on Instagram.

Gasps his father Marty Bowlin,

“He never shared, he never commented, he never made a threatening post… anything on the site, just liked it.”

The suspension was suspended, but students are advised not to try “liking” any pictures of toy guns. Top dog educrat Russ Fussnecker (seriously, that’s his name) issued a statement reading in part:

As the Superintendent of the Edgewood City Schools, I assure you that any social media threat will be taken serious including those who “like” the post when it potentially endangers the health and safety of students or adversely affects the educational process.

The possibility that militant hysteria might adversely affect the educational process seems not to occur to educrats.

Anonymous Issues Terrifying Announcement: World Is Warned to Prepare for World War 3 [VIDEO]

Anonymous is now warning of World War 3. Typically, I don’t listen to them as I consider them a subversive group. But I didn’t hear anything in their video that wasn’t true. They got it right this time and it should terrify all of us. As for being a quick, brutal war, however, I am not entirely sure on that one. We are not just speaking of North Korea, South Korea, Japan and the US here. China, Russia and Iran would surely back the NoKos. With nuclear weapons at play, if this war breaks out, it could be devastating.

We did test of the Minuteman 3 intercontinental ballistic missile… however, that test has been scheduled for a while. The Japanese have warned their people to be prepared for war and to stock up. They also are relaunching their military forces as a deterrent. China has requested that citizens in North Korea return to China. All of that is true and more. We did land 1,250 Marines in Australia and they are calling that deployment ‘rotational’. Both China and Russia have mobilized troops on the North Korean border as well.

West Ocean City Gets New Stoplight On Route 611; No Future Light Plans For Assateague Road Intersection

WEST OCEAN CITY – A long-discussed traffic signal has been installed at a busy West Ocean City intersection just in time for summer.

Maryland’s State Highway Administration (SHA) installed a new traffic signal at the intersection of Sunset Avenue and Route 611 last week.

“The signal at Sunset Avenue will become fully operational once we finish some road work in the area,” said Bob Rager, district community liaison for SHA. “Mostly paving and striping.”

The need for a traffic signal at the busy intersection — frequented by motorists going from West Ocean City to Assateague, South Point and Berlin — has been discussed for years. In 2013, a SHA study confirmed a need for the signal.

According to Rager, SHA follows the same procedure whether there’s a local request for a signal or not.

Cities, States Move to Calm Fear of Deportation

Amid vows from the Trump administration to crack down on illegal immigration, some city and state officials are trying to calm immigrants’ fear with legislation to prohibit arrests in courthouses, schools, workplaces and other spots where immigrants gather.

The legal rationale for the proposals is not always clear. State and local governments may not have the power to keep immigration agents from arresting people in courthouses or on public streets near churches and schools, where some recent arrests have been made.

What is clear is that fear of deportation is keeping immigrants from sending children to school, showing up for medical appointments, and appearing in court as witnesses or for other reasons.

The tense situation is, at least in part, an unintended consequence of so-called sanctuary policies, under which cities and counties refuse to hold prisoners for possible deportation. In addition, some sheriffs have questioned the legality of “detainers,” or requests from the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to hold prisoners.

The increased difficulty of arresting immigrants has driven ICE to make more raids in other places, including courthouses.

“Now that many law enforcement agencies no longer honor ICE detainers, these individuals, who often have significant criminal histories, are released onto the street, presenting a potential public safety threat,” said Danielle Bennett, an ICE spokeswoman.

Thousands Flee Chicago For Safer Areas Of The Country As America’s Third Largest City Becomes A Gang-Infested Wasteland

Did you know that the number of murders increased by almost 60 percent in the city of Chicago last year?

And as you will see below, this year gang violence in the Windy City has risen to a new level of viciousness. A staggering 9.5 million people live in the Chicago metropolitan area, and it was once known primarily for great pizza, bitter cold and some of the best sports fans on the entire planet. But now the number one thing that comes to mind for many when they think about the city of Chicago is gang violence. As it becomes clear that things are not going to turn around any time soon, thousands of residents are leaving the city for safer areas of the nation. In fact, Cook County lost more people than any other county in America last year by a very wide margin.

When your murder rate goes up by double digits in a single year, you have got a problem.

But when it goes up by close to 60 percent, you have got a catastrophe on your hands

Council Reverses Last Week’s Decision On BikeFest’s Liquor Sales

OCEAN CITY — After gaining assurances from the promoter on certain controls, a divided City Council this week reversed a denial of liquor sales at OC BikeFest and will now allow mixed drinks to be served at the event.

Last week, OC BikeFest officials appeared before the Mayor and Council with a handful of requests related to a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the town for the annual event in September including a desire to add liquor in addition to beer and wine at the weekend-long events at the Inlet. The request was denied last week after a contentious debate involving the virtues or evils of alcohol in general in the perceived family-friendly resort.

In the week since, the city received an email from event promoter Kathy Michael renewing the request with a handful of controls in place. For example, OC BikeFest would only serve limited types of liquor in carefully measured amounts of one-and-a-half ounces with an appropriate mixer. The drinks would be poured by certified bartenders with strict identification checks and no shots would be allowed.

Ted Cruz Cleaned Sally Yates’s Clock. Here’s Why.

On Monday, in a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) exposed former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates’s ignorance of the law, and the partisan nature of her decision to refuse to enforce President Donald Trump’s executive order suspending travel from several terror-prone countries.

One would not know that from the liberal media, which thinks Yates won the exchange, but Cruz proved his case decisively.

Here’s why — in short: Cruz brought up the law that authorized the executive order, and Yates did not recognize it. She then answered by referring to another law, which does not supersede the first. She then tried to argue that the order was unconstitutional, but Cruz pointed out that her argument was a partisan one, driven by her own policy views. She then claimed no court would enforce the order — which is contradicted by the fact that one actually did.

The left thinks Yates won the exchange because she was well-prepared with a set of talking points, and offered a snappy response. That shows how desperate Democrats are to salvage something out of the hearing — which failed to produce any new evidence to back up their Russian conspiracy theories — and also how urgently they need to find new champions.

It does not change the fact that Cruz was completely correct, and Yates was completely wrong.

Here is a more detailed explanation, with a transcript of the relevant portion of the exchange, as well as a video

Betsy DeVos booed speaking at historically black university

Many of the graduating students turned their backs on Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and boos nearly drowned out her commencement speech Wednesday at Bethune-Cookman University.

DeVos carried on with her keynote address to the historically black university, praising its founder Mary McLeod Bethune as someone who “refused to accept systemic and repulsive racism,” and had “the courage to change old ideas.”

“Let’s choose to hear one another out,” DeVos said, reading her prepared text in a measured tone despite continuing waves of boos, catcalls and scattered applause.

“I am here to demonstrate in the most direct way possible that I and the administration are fully committed to your success and to the success of every student across this great country,” she said.

Some alumni and African-American leaders had called the invitation insensitive and misguided. Students gathered petitions demanding she not be allowed to speak. Before the address, activists lined a sidewalk. One sign said “DeVos is not worthy.”

TrueTheVote: Testifying for Free Speech

Last week I was invited to Washington D.C. to testify before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, in a sub-committee hearing chaired by Congressman Jim Jordan.

In the hearing, Congressman Jordan said he believed True the Vote was targeted because we are effective. He’s right. And that makes us a huge threat to the bureaucratic deep state.

So, the subject of the hearing was “Examining a Church’s Right to Free Speech.” So, you may wonder, what does that have to do with True the Vote? Quite a lot, actually.

Here’s why...

DENYING REALITY: UNIVERSITY’S DIVERSITY TRAINING COURSE SUGGESTS THAT IT’S RACIST TO EXPECT FOREIGNERS TO SHOW UP ON TIME

Time is pretty much the same for everyone on Earth

When Albert Einstein unveiled his theory of relativity, it must have been a mind blowing bombshell for people at the time. It’s still pretty incredible today. The idea that time may be experienced differently for objects traveling at different speeds, can be difficult to grasp and appreciate.

Still, for all practical purposes, time is pretty much the same for everyone on Earth. No matter who you are or where you live, an hour is an hour, a minute is a minute, and a second is a second. Time may move forward for us Earthlings at a rate that is different from an asteroid hurtling through space, but there isn’t any significant “relativity” between you and me, and it certainly isn’t different for people living in different cultures, right?

Don’t tell that to Clemson University in South Carolina. The taxpayer funded school recently spent almost $27,000 on diversity training materials for their professors. The course consists of slides depicting fictional characters in various scenarios, which are designed to teach them how to make the campus a more inclusive environment. Among those slides, is one that claims that people from different cultures can’t be held to the same standard as everyone else in our society, because their perspective on time is just different. Buying A Car? What To Look For When You Take A Test Drive

Most car buyers don't do more than the most perfunctory test drive of new or used cars. But with so much new technology and features in today's cars and trucks, a thorough test drive is more important than ever.

According to a survey by Cox Automotive only 32 percent of consumers know the exact vehicle they want when they start car shopping. But 55 percent test drive only one vehicle — the one they end up purchasing. You're likely to try on more than one pair of shoes or hat, even when they have your size and you know what it is.

Ron Montoya with Edmunds.com, the car buying website, says a lot of people think, " 'Hey, this car's new. I'm driving an old car. I don't really need to drive this new car. Anything is going to be better than what I'm currently driving.' So they don't test-drive it."

But they should. The average car on the road is over 10 years old. Technology has changed significantly in the last decade, so many of the features on that new vehicle may be unfamiliar. Things such as drive assist, lane keeping, and turn assist weren't around just a few years ago.

ROGER STONE DARES DEMS TO LET HIM TESTIFY UNDER OATH IN PUBLIC

Dems only want to meet in private

WASHINGTON, D.C. –
Libertarian firebrand and long-time Trump confident Roger Stone looks forward to an opportunity to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee about his alleged involvement with Russia to rig the 2016 election for Donald Trump.

But after a letter dated April 28 from the Senate Intelligence Committee, jointly signed by the Chairman, Republican Sen. Richard Burr and by the Vice Chairman, Democratic Sen. Mark Warner, asking Stone to make himself available for a “closed interview with designated committee staff” at a mutually agreeable time, Stone is not so sure the U.S. Congress wants the American people to hear his side of the story.

Emergency Declared At Nuclear-Contaminated Site In Washington State

The Department of Energy has declared an emergency at a nuclear-contaminated site in Washington state, after soil caved in over a portion of a tunnel containing rail cars contaminated with nuclear waste.

"All personnel in the immediate area have been accounted for — they are safe — and there is no evidence of a radiological release," Destry Henderson, spokesperson for the Hanford site's emergency operations center, said in a brief statement on Facebook.

Some employees were evacuated and others were told to move indoors as a "precaution," officials say. Anna King of the Northwest News Network, a public radio station collaboration, reports that approximately 3,000 other workers in the area were originally taking cover indoors. Nonessential employees have since been sent home, and essential employees were instructed to avoid the site of the tunnel.

There are no reports of injuries.

Affordable Housing Program Costs More, Shelters Less

On the south side of Dallas, Nena Eldridge lives in a sparse but spotless bungalow on a dusty lot. At $550 each month, her rent is just about the cheapest she could find in the city.

After an injury left her unable to work, the only income she receives is a $780 monthly disability check. So she has to make tough financial choices, like living without running water.

Every day, she fills bottles with water from a neighbor's house and takes them home. She washes her hands with water heated in an electric slow cooker. She uses a bucket to flush the toilet.

"I'm tired, but I don't have nowhere to go and I don't have enough money to do it," she says, fighting back tears. But she adds, "I'm not living on the streets. I'm not homeless."

Sheriff Gets 4 Years In Prison For Running E-Cigarette Business Behind Bars

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from movies and TV shows about prison, it’s that cigarettes are a popular currency behind bars, and apparently the same holds true for e-cigarettes. But if you’re a sheriff caught running a lucrative e-cig business for prisoners, you could end up one yourself.

Former Rutherford County, TN, sheriff Robert Arnold was recently sentenced to 50 months in prison on federal corruption charges stemming from his part in an alleged get-rich-quick scheme that involved selling electronic cigarettes to jail inmates through jail employees.

According to the Department of Justice, Arnold admitted to using his official position as Sheriff to operate and gain financially from a company called JailCigs.

He also admitted that he concealed his involvement in the company and misrepresented the benefits that Rutherford County was supposedly receiving from JailCigs.

Leaders Continue to Work Collaboratively to Combat Heroin and Opioid Epidemic

ANNAPOLIS, MD –
Governor Larry Hogan today was joined by District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser and Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe as featured speakers at the Regional Opioid and Substance Abuse Summit. The summit, organized by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, is an opportunity for hundreds of area policymakers and public health and safety professionals from across the region to confront the many challenges associated with the growing heroin and opioid epidemic.

“Our goal today is to shine a spotlight on the heroin and opioid crisis in our region and to bring a heightened level of awareness to this rapidly escalating threat, which is tearing apart families, devastating communities, and killing more and more people every day,” said Governor Hogan. “Ultimately, this is about saving lives – that is the bottom line – and it will take a collaborative, holistic approach to achieve that. Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia will continue to be united as we work together to turn the tide in this deadly fight.”
